I got the wagyu burger add bacon, it was awesome. The only critique I have for it was a little less thousand island sauce. Also got the onion rings fried to perfection. Desert was the tiramisu, which had blackberry puree. Now first and foremost, I am not a fan of tiramisu, but our waitress said it was amazing, so I tried it with an open mind. It was phenomenal!! Our waitress, Lilly, was so helpful and polite. She even made sure the magician came over to our table for some table side magic. The ambiance was exactly what I was expecting from a "haunted cafe". Came to try this place out with a group of friends last night for some bites and drinks. The place was really well decorated for Halloween and it's very‌ Instagrammable. However, unfortunately the level of service and the food did not live up to this beautiful atmosphere and very themed decorations. Upon arrival there was no hostess at the front to guide me to the table that I was supposed to go too so I just wondered around and then found my group of friends. Our final check also came out very late maybe took 1-2 hours. In any service industry specially food industry service and customer service matters a lot so I am hoping they will work on improving that by providing more training to the staff. read more

Tried out the Haunted Castle Café in Plano this weekend, and it was definitely an experience. The place is dark and moody inside to fit the theme, which was cool at first, but honestly it was really stuffy and the lighting made it almost impossible to read the menu. The food isn't really the star here. I ordered the salmon with a side of vegetables--it was okay, nothing to brag about. A couple of my friends got the steak and weren't impressed at all. It reminded me a lot of the Magic Time Machine: fun and creative atmosphere, but not a place you go for amazing food. Service was another downside. They didn't bus the tables, so dirty dishes just sat there, and at one point our server completely forgot about us. That kind of killed the vibe for a bit. The highlight of the night, hands down, was the girl playing the glow-in-the-dark violin. She was incredible and totally brought the spooky theme to life. That part felt magical and really made the whole visit worth it. Overall, I'd say go if you're looking for a fun, novelty night out or something different to do with friends, but don't expect great service or amazing food. read more

One star for the cool, kitschy ambience. One star for the overworked server. This place has a cool concept, but falls far short in the food department. The salad was missing a creamy Caesar dressing. Instead, it had a light, bottled Italian dressing. The tomato soup was ok, as was the rest of the food - just ok. I'd bet a good amount of money that all of the food, every single item, was premade, reheated food. The soup tastes like the Costco variety. The sauces on the pastas were generic and tasted like bottled Alfredo sauce. The desserts were lackluster, cut from a large generic budget cake. The lava cake had no gooey chocolate fudge in the middle - just chunky, dry chocolate fudge. The restaurant was only half full, but it was very clear that they are understaffed. The server said so as well. We were told that despite the preset menu stating that there is a choice of dessert for each diner, they can only accommodate one dessert per table as they don't have enough people working in the back. We did end up getting two desserts, but here is the order in which we received our food: First out - Soup 10 minutes later - Salad 10 minutes later - Chocolate Lava Cake (dessert) 15 minutes later - Tortellini with Shrimp 5 minutes later - Lemon Cheesecake (dessert) 10 minutes later - Chicken Alfredo No drink refills were offered, but we were given a glass of Prosecco in a plastic flute at the beginning. Well, dang. My adult fam, that loves spooky things, has been dying to try this place. We finally stopped in for a quick drink on a Sunday afternoon. The decor is really something else, it's definitely more spooky vibe than scary. The whole place reminds me of the Magic Time Machine concept, just with a spooky twist. When we arrived, the place was completely empty, which we expected for a Sunday afternoon. We all tried different alcoholic beverages, some were better than others. I definitely didn't have a problem at all with how the drinks were crafted, the dry ice was a fun effect. The staff, however, were a bit odd. Our bartender kept trying to make conversation with us, which normally we'd be okay with in a casual and light hearted way, but it felt like they were really trying to insert themselves into our convo. It made us uncomfortable and we felt like we couldn't talk without the bartender trying to chime in. The other weird thing is the menu. For a place that feels like it is decidedly casual and catering to families/kids/birthdays, why are we offering a pistachio crusted rack of lamb? Chilean sea bass? Octopus??? These dishes sound great but woah, that menu is for a fine dining restaurant. Overall the menu feels totally out of line for this venue and overpriced. Menu needs an overhaul in my opinion. One final note- black lights show *everything*. With so much black light the staff should really take care of make sure things are spotless. The bathroom had me a little icked out. Fun to try, and I really wish the best for them as I think the concept is awesome, but not our cup of tea. It's Definitely supposed to scary based off the decorations and the random loud wolf howling and monster like laughs. A lot of pictures worthy attractions, I seen a chucky doll and they even have a casket in the waiting area by the entrance. The wait staff were walking around in different Halloween like costumes. I just so happened to be wearing a Beetlejuice shirt (wasn't planned ), and the host was also dressed as Beetlejuice and said she was a huge fan, I found that to be really cool. I think our server may have been a vampire? Not really sure because he just had on all black. We're in the summer , and we came on a Wednesday and they still had a decent amount of people coming in to dine in. It's Probably a hit during the Halloween season for sure. The Food was diverse , and there were a variety of different things from spaghetti, steak , salmon, chicken wings , beef ribs, pork chops , lamb chops , a couple of vegan and vegetarian options and they even had grilled octopus. For an appetizer, we ordered the fried mac and cheese bites that came paired with marinara sauce. They were tasty, but really just tasted like regular fried cheddar bites. I got the pistachio crusted lamb chops that came with a creamy goat cheese dipping sauce, white rice , grilled veggies, a side salad (Caesar), with a hot tea and both my daughters got hamburgers with fries and lemonades. They said the burgers were average burgers, but they weren't disappointed. They also said like the lemonade tasted like fresh squeezed lemonade and they enjoyed it. I requested to not have the pistachios crust on my lamb chops but was told that wasn't possible. I attempted to swap out one of my sides but also was told there was no substituting the sides to any of the meals, that really didn't sound right to me. I don't really eat white rice which the menu doesn't say it comes with white rice but I got tired of the "we don't do that here " to even debate it. So I also ordered a side of the grilled asparagus as well. I feel our server was either new or just didn't want to do anything extra, because almost everything that was asked was almost always answered with a "no, we can't do that here". I almost wanted to request a manager because there was so many "we don't do that here ", that I started to become really annoyed. There was couple sitting behind us who had to wait 15 mins before their table was assisted ( our server was also their server too ). I literally only tipped him because it would have been seen as disrespectful not to tip on a bill over $100, and I also understand that sometimes people have bad days and there's no telling what he may have dealing with. The pistachio crusted lamb chops 3/10.. it wasn't horrible but not good either. I gave them a 3 because the cook temp on them were as I asked and they were tender. I simply just removed the pistachios crust off myself. The grilled veggies 3/10, they were plain and some of the veggies were undercooked like the broccoli, which was really really hard. The Asparagus 2/10, they were also really hard and had a sweet drizzle on them. I Could really only eat the heads to them. The Creamy goat cheese dipping sauce and rice I left there on the plate , because I didn't want them to begin with but again was told "we don't do that here ". The Caesar salad is probably the only thing I enjoyed and even that was just a basic salad. We wanted to get dessert but I decided that we'd get it else where. I boxed up the lamb chops and took them home to my dogs. Halloween in the summer , so we knew it would be a hit or miss. I think if we would have gotten a different server our experience may have been a lot better. like the nurse from the dead that was servicing the table next to us. She seemed to be very engaged/attentive and knowledgeable. I can see how or why those who love Halloween / horror may enjoy this restaurant ( the scenery). Gave this place another shot hoping it got its kinks out. We made reservations for a party of 8 on a Sunday afternoon and we were seated right away. The service was impeccable (shout out to Spider-Man), the drinks and food were great. Would def come back! Especially with Spider-Man taking care of us and the city. Just in time for Halloween, I have a scary review of the Haunted Castle Cafe- Not the kind with goblins and ghouls, but the kind with disappointments and bad experiences. To frame my recounting of my meal, I have to mention that I was here with a large group of 10 for a bachelorette party. I was pretty stoked to see someone would finally be occupying this space that had to be vacant for at least a decade. I Remembered back in the day, this used to be Tenaya- the Mexican food restaurant, which was sooooo good. I was hopeful the new occupants would bring a much needed revitalization to the building. You know, it had been vacant so long, I thought it might actually be haunted, so when the Haunted Castle Cafe popped up, it seemed a little too on the nose. We had reservations for 1pm on a Sunday, but there was still a long wait for us to be seated. That set the stage for a series of misses that impacted our time. When we were finally seated, we were taken to a large dining area with murals of dragons and everything was drenched in black light. It's cheesy, but kind of what I was expecting based on the exterior of the building and the hilariously awful website. The waiter who took our order was very nice. We didn't have any issue with the service other than the wait taking so long. Before our food was brought out, we went ahead and cashed out so we wouldn't have to drag the meal out any longer. The bride had booked a party bus and we had a strict timeline, so it was weird we had to try to speed things up since the wait for the food was so long. Now, before I dined here, I did visit their website so I could get an idea of what the food was like. I settled on the Arugula Fig Salad. At $18, it's kind of what I would expect to pay elsewhere for a salad of that size. The flavors were good and the produce was fresh. I liked my salad, and had a $10 strawberry smoothie- well, it was supposed to be strawberry banana, but I was told they were out of bananas. Definitely, not worth $10. Honestly, I don't know where else charges $10 for a smoothie of that size because it was definitely on the small side. The menu for the most part seems to be punching above its weight class. Chilean Sea Bass for $45 and Rack of Lamb for $42? The menu is bizarre and I don't understand exactly who it's for. There's too many random items and on the day of our visit, they did not have a soup of the day as listed on their menu. The worst part of the meal was the restroom was flooded. I had to carefully walk around the toilet and I could not figure out why the stalls seemed to be dripping water. When I flushed the toilet, I learned why. Overall, this place definitely evokes feeling of horror and shock, but not for the reasons you would think. The concept is fun, but the execution is poor. It's like too much going on and the business lacks focus. The timing needs to get under control, and the bathrooms need to be functioning properly. The only thing haunted about this place is the service and the quality of food. Got the chicken parm - very dry, no bread served with it but did get a salad, came with white sauce and pasta, tasted like literally nothing. The white sauce had to come out of the can. The music would get loud out of no where, my server was nice though, kinda felt bad she works here cause I'm sure she can make better money somewhere else. I was sweating within 30 minutes of being here, the ice was melted in my water. Had two managers come up and ask if everything was okay. Kinda makes you think they get complaints a lot, wonder why. Would also like to add my table got seated and no one came to take our order for a while. We were then moved cause two more guests showed up to our party of 5. They sat a group of 3 at the table we were just at and they were served immediately. Spent a total of 2 hours here due to lack of service yet we watched everyone get served in a timely fashion. I've wanted to go here for such a long time, but I can honestly say it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I'm not normally someone who minds slow service, because it's nice to relax and chat, but this was next level awful. We sat down at 12:05 and didn't get drinks for 10 minutes and my husband and I only had water. We sat there waiting until they took finally took our orders at 12:45. The food didn't start coming out until 1:25. I was watching after other Yelp people said that happens there. They brought one girl's food 15 minutes before everyone else. Then they brought out food one or two at a time every 5-7 minutes. One guy didn't get his food until almost 2! So we were all trying to be polite and not eat but we all eventually said forget it and just ate because our meals were getting cold. They messed up some orders and gave people the wrong things even though the people said it was wrong. The servers stood there with the plates staring at them until they eventually accepted the wrong orders. One girl ordered a house salad with ranch and no tomatoes. They brought her lettuce and ranch and nothing else on it. She also had fries, which came out 15 minutes after her salad. A few people had appetizers which came out after their entrees. The craziest part about the slow service was that there were only 3 other small tables of people in the whole place. The food was extremely bland. My chicken strips and fries had no seasoning. My husband had the royal burger and it was so dry he could barely eat it. He was one of the people whose order wasn't right. The rest of the group was going to an event at 2, about 20 mins away, and it was already 30 mins since it started before checks were offered. The server was nowhere to be found for quite a while. A few people were initially going to order dessert but everything else took so long that they decided to pass on it. We weren't going to the event and were third to get our check. When we left the other folks were all still there waiting for their checks. They charged a large party tip which was totally fine. Except unlike most places, they didn't charge the standard 18%. They charged 25%! Then when the server came around with the little credit card swiper machine, he stood over people's shoulders looking down at the screen... which asked for a second tip on top of the 25%. For one burger, two waters, and a kid's chicken strip plate (which is what I had), we paid over $45 after double tipping. 1 star out of 5 and that was only for the theming. At the time of writing this. the overall rating is 2.8, which to be honest, is wayyyyyy overly generous. Also, beware if you have to use the restroom. There were black lights in there and it was quite apparent that it hadn't been cleaned in a while... if you know what I mean. The stuff that was glowing bright in the stall was scarier than the decor of the restaurant! So disappointed in the experience my friend had for her birthday. So disappointed. The only thing this place has to offer is the decor. We got here at 1:12, our reservation was for 1:30. The restaurant, though spacious, only had 4 family's but we had to wait to be seated. We are a family of 4, however, when the family of 5 came after us, he sat them immediately. When we finally sat down, our server came almost instantly for our drink order, which was only water by the way, then disappeared. We didn't get water until 26 minutes until sitting. There were a few other things but I don't want to make it too lengthy. The price of the food didn't not match the service. The atmosphere of the cafe is pretty awesome, we researched the menu beforehand. We arrived at noon and were seated quickly cafe was not packed. The waitress took our drink order. When she came back she explained that they only had a handful of food items available and only fried pickles as an appetizer she could not explain why. Our beers were good, the fried pickles ok, the salmon one got was ok and the other 3 of us got burgers and fry's. The fry's were cold and the burgers barely warm. The service was very slow and not great at all. We needed a 2nd beers but waitress never came so went to the bar a same thing no one to help. The concept is so fun -- the dim lighting, Halloween decor, and spooky theme are cheesy in the best way. The food came out quickly, which I appreciated. That said... the actual food and drink were unfortunately just not it. It has a dark, immersive Halloween haunted house theme- lots of decor and cheesy but fun airbrushed scenery. Throughout dinner we were visited by various horror icons. Lots of fun. The menu had a rather eclectic selection. I'm not a fan of goat cheese or feta, so all the salads were not for me. My daughter really likes her pasta chicken Alfredo. My sorta falafel like Smashed Meatballs and Grilled Vegetables was OK. Nothing special. It would have been cool if there were more dramatic themed mocktails for younger folks. We honestly went here with low expectations around the food and were pleasantly surprised. We stuck with burgers and they were pretty good. The decor is basically a rainforest cafe type with a spooky vibe as you can see in any number of the pictures in the reviews. Our teenage son thought it was corny but our little girls thought it was amazing, especially the beetlejuice character. Our issue was that our service was absolutely atrocious. We sat at our table 6:30 and didn't order until 7:30. We constantly had to find our waiter to take our order, get refills, bring our check then take our money. He even promised to credit our appetizer because of how awful it was and he didn't even do that. We didn't feel like arguing so we left and just took the L. Great concept but could use some improvements. They were playing Halloween themed music and the decor, wall paintings and black lights were pretty awesome but it didn't truly feel like a Haunted Castle eating experience. One cool thing is that the menus glow under the black lights. If you are not a fan of dark restaurants this is not your place. Few notes: The Food menu is having an identity crisis. Loved that the drinks were Halloween themed but the food menu could use a little more creativity with the names. Please be aware this is a Mediterranean based menu. They do have some American style foods but most of the mains are Mediterranean inspired. My biggest recommendation is if you are having a Mediterranean menu to add falafel, gyros, and kafta kebabs to the menu! I had the Swamp Thing drink and the Peach Glazed Pork Chop with mac n cheese as my side. The drink was good and the food was seasoned very well. The mac n cheese ranks pretty high on my list of great tasting mac n cheese. I will say the prices are a little bit higher than what I would like to pay but you are paying for the ambiance. I paid $54 for my meal, drink, and 20% tip. The waitress was very honest when I asked her questions about the menu and gave good recommendations. And you do receive a coconut ice cream sundae for a dessert if it's your birthday! It is a one and done restaurant for me unless there is some drastic changes to the menu, prices or I have a friend who really wants to go. He didn't even touch the burger, and his fries were cold too, just like our daughter's. I had the Chilean Sea Bass, which was lukewarm and flavorless. The asparagus was mushy, the white rice was cold, and my Caesar salad never even made it to the table. The bartender (who wasn't the manager) really tried her best, and I appreciate her effort but overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I normally don't leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share this. I should've checked Yelp instead of relying on Google. Now I understand why the parking lot was empty ... that was our first warning. They have potential, but this place desperately needs a serious revamp in both the kitchen and service. Great idea, poor execution. Food is overpriced for what it's worth. Bill was about $96 dollars after bartender took things off. We were better off going to McDonald's or Chili's. We made reservations and arrived ten minutes early, but still waited fifteen minutes past our reservation time to be seated. Once seated, another thirty minutes went by before anyone even came to our table. When our server finally arrived, we ordered much-needed vodka martinis, only for them to return ten minutes later to announce they were out of vodka . At that point, it had been an hour with no appetizers, no drinks, not even a glass of water. We ended up trying some sort of pumpkin old fashioned instead, but by then, the experience had already gone downhill. We finally decided to head across the street to Maggiano's, where we could actually order food and be treated like guests. Since no one ever brought water, food, or a check, I went up to the bar to close out only to find three staff members laughing, cussing, and elbowing each other behind the counter instead of helping customers. Oh, and did I mention it was my friend's birthday, and we drove all the way from Fort Worth for this? Truly disappointing. Save yourself the trouble and just go to Waffle House, you'll get better service and your food will actually arrive. Found this place online looking for fun new place to eat. Son's birthday was perfect occasion as he loves horror flicks & D&D stuff. Reservations quick easy, got out timeframe. Greeted promptly upon arrival. Cool exterior decor as well as inviting lobby area. Seated quickly in bar-adult room in my estimation. Waiter was great as was funny and made my son's birthday special! We had Haunted Castle burgers (blue cheese) cooked perfectly, but couldn't eat whole burger though. Good portion of French fries and garlic mashed potatoes too. Was a little pricey, though understand the decor and ambience is part of the experience. Was surprised that no waiter, waitress or even host greeter did not have some sort of costume or say a gothic period dress or say suit. Overall, was a good experience as this is a brand new restaurant, so like many, have to work the bugs out. We would come back for special occasions and if you are a D&D person, have a couple great tables in the corner of family room that would be perfect! read more

I think all the 5 star reviews must be from friends/family of the owners....because this place is a straight dumpster fire. I'll preface this review by saying we were super excited to come here! Ambience seemed cool and were looking forward to it Went for late lunch (2pm) on a Friday with my 2 kids. We waited at the hostess stand for a bit until I had to flag someone down to see about seating. And she was not very friendly at all. The place is pretty decent size yet they had every group of diners smooshed together in one area. Had to request a different table. Gave us all menus, except they were all cocktail menus.... My daughter (11) asked if they actually serve food..... and then proceeded to say that this place seems super disappointing. The food is MASSIVELY overpriced. Mains run $20-$45. I ordered a $20 for a burger that was cooked to death (ordered it medium rare) & fries had no seasoning. Our server did not check up after food was delivered... not once. Kids meals run about $14 and Chik fil a has better chicken, Mac& cheese and soup. It'll also run you $6 for a kids Shirley temple. You'll get a better meal at Chili's or McDonald's and although the ambience has a kitschy seasonal appeal.... Absolutely 100% not worth it! So so so disappointed. Requested to speak to the manager/owner and he tried to blame the entire situation on our server, who was the only person who was kind and gracious to us during the whole time. I communicated all the feedback I have given in this review to him, and yet he seemed insistent on blaming it on the server....although she didn't follow up, he was just straight mean to her....in front of customers no less! Super awkward I had to stick up for her saying that she has been the only one hospitable to us and that maybe he needs the point the finger inward and take a look at how HE is running things. I am not sure where to begin. Made a reservation for our daughter's birthday, only to walk in to the Scooby Doo experience. They were so disorganized that the host was slow dealing with each person. Then it took about 15 minutes before the server came over. After about 45 minutes we had to find the server to order our food. After and an hour 15, still no food and when we asked for the manager, still no manager after 15 minutes. Can't rate the food as it never came, drinks were lack luster, service was non existent and the manager seems to not care. Won't ever go back and based on the ratings they have a lot of work to do. I honestly don't even know where to begin with this place. I do want to give a 5 star review shoutout to our waitress Tashika. She was an absolute delight, very friendly, bubbly, attentive and honest. Also, keep in mind, they have only been open for a week, so I hope management reads these reviews and takes some of this feedback to try to make this place better. We had a reservation, not sure why we needed one as the place was not that busy. We got to the host stand and the hostess told us it'll be another 30 minutes before we're seated. Decor: it's a cool concept but a little all over the place and kind of cheesy. Is it Dracula's castle, is it dragons, is it fairies, is it a pumpkin patch? You're INSIDE a castle but the paintings on the wall is for outside of the castle? Also, the music made absolutely no sense. One minute they're playing the Monster Mash, the next Evanescence is playing? Again, is this more of a Halloween place, is it a haunted castle, or? This place just feels more like it's catered for kids, and there's nothing wrong with that, but when you look at the menu, it doesn't make sense. Food/Menu: umm, yikes. So with the decor being catered more towards kids, the menu is definitely made for adults at a high end restaurant. BUT this place is called the Haunted Castle CAFE, so why are entrees $20+? The ghost on the wall was eating a slice of pizza, but pizza was nowhere on the menu. We were very hesitant to get food because of the reviews but we tried some sides. We ordered the side of mashed potatoes, side of mac and cheese, and an order of the medium calamari. Mashed potatoes were probably my favorite. The calamari was good but not worth $15. The mac and cheese almost tasted like they took a jar of queso and dumped it over elbow macaroni. We wanted to try a drink from the bar but I wanted to wait and see what people were ordering and if it was worth paying $14+ for a cocktail. I was expecting some cool glasses or something themed for the cocktails to come out in but they just put them in regular cups. So we skipped the drinks. I think they should continue the theme into cups/plates to tie everything together. We got water in plastic to go cups, but the silverware had some cool skulls on it. There are a lot of things that they need to improve on, and do it quickly before Halloween gets here. We came here on a Friday around 7pm. It was a fun atmosphere with a friendly waitress. We ordered four cocktails which were all pretty good. I had the Castle burger with bacon and it was delicious. I recommend this place to anyone that loves spooky stuff. I would not recommend to anyone with sensory issues (lots of lights and sounds). read more
