Service: 3.9/5 Food: 4/5 Price: $ (under $20) A rare find + a good change of pace from all the pizza/Italian options in the West Village. Classic hole-in-the-wall/mom-and-pop shop. Looks like an extensive menu, but it's really just the core items listed repeatedly with all the protein variations. Definitely immigrant-family-run- male server was friendly, while female server was purely focused on the job. Service is okay- not super attentive nor did they take note of our dietary restrictions. Also forgot our customizations (no cilantro, add an egg), so double check your bill. They initially tried to charge us for the added egg we never got (bc it was written on the ticket). They were nice about correcting the bill, though, + have one of the best cash preferred deals I've seen in any restaurant (not just the usual tax off). What I Ordered: Grilled Chicken Pho - Grilled Chicken: tender, comes on the side, well seasoned - Pho: large, not too oily or salty, strange inclusion of broccoli Cubed Flank Steak Over Rice - Steak: fragrant + tender - Rice: unfortunately, not broken rice Special Banh Mi: visually large, but mostly mediocre bread, crunchy veggies, + decent amount of meat (keep in mind I reheated it up at work)

I've been here only once, but I was impressed with the dishes I ordered. The shaken beef had a lot of flavor in their marinade that goes very well with the rice and veggies. Tamarind soup was fresh, light and flavorful. Service was fast and food was fresh. I will be coming back.

I ordered the Bun with pork sausage , tofu spring rolls and some beef broth and lemon tea. It was all middle od the rode decent but not outstanding. Small portions and they forgot my silver ware. Broth has leaked out in the bag and was less then half full. And overly expensive for the small portions.

Our go to pho place in the city. There are also a couple of other pho locations in the area but we keep coming back to this one. Food is great and authentic. Service is great and super quick too. Really nice for a quick comforting meal. Ambiance is fast casual but has a nice homey feel.

The broth in the pho is very oily and they put broccoli in it. They never did that before. It taste weird. Noodles are mushy and overall a bad bowl of pho. What happened to this place? They used to good. I spend about $30 tonight and the food was just simply not good. The broth is different from pre-pandemic. Just look at the the broth from before. This is sad how much this restaurant changed.

This is my most-visited NY restaurant by a wide margin. I haven't reviewed it for fear of bringing attention to it. I can almost always get a table without a reservation. I believe this is due to the popularity of a serviceable, but hip Vietnamese option nearby. This is the best Banh Mi I have had. I keep trying others, but the bread here is unmatched. I'm told they get it fresh from a bakery in Brooklyn. The spiced pork sausage they use is also perfect. The pho can b from exceptional to greatest of all time. I love this place with all my heart. Almost forgot the rolls! The cha gio are THE BEST. Not just saying that. They are the best in existence (US).

Food: I went to Saigon on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. I ordered a p3 and he ordered a Vietnamese hot and sour young coconut soup with Shrimp. My pho dish was delicious with plenty of noodles. My boyfriend's bowl was huge and had so many vegetables. The service was great. They made sure we were okay a couple of times. Ambiance: There was a couple of people eating at the restaurant at the same time as us; it wasn't loud making it a pleasant dinner experience.

Best pho I've ever had! Everything was amazing from the soup to the service, in my opinion. 10/10

Three years later and honestly... it's gotten EVEN BETTER. The bahn mi SING, and the bread is unreal. The staff are always super friendly and the atmosphere just feels homey. I'd go as far to say this is one of my favorite places to go eat in the whole city. If Hello Saigon has no supporters, then I have passed away.

Great place with good food and good price. These three dishes can around just under $60 with tip and tax. It's a great place to replenish your energy after the New York marathon. Servers are very nice people!

The service was amazing and very nice people!! I've been there twice so far. Definitely will be going again!! The pho is so delicious and perfect for a cold day

Ambiance (4/5): The restaurant is bare bones but there is a cool graffiti mural art near the entrance. The place is open and not loud! We stumbled on 1pm Sunday and there was plenty of seating. Be aware that there are steep stairs to access the bathroom. Service (5/5): Since the place is smaller, there was plenty of staff around to assist with serving all the tables. Food came out fairly quickly! Food: Vietnamese Coffee (4/5): There is a strong espresso taste in this and the milk was Hue-style spicy beef and pork noodle (#9 Bun bo Hue) (4/5) - I ordered the which is more fish-flavor forward due to the shrimp paste. There was a variety of different cuts of meat in the large bowl and a great portion of it too! My sister enjoyed her #2 Beef Brisket Pho and tasted like your classic pho and noodles. I liked hers slightly more!

Ask the Community - Hello Saigon

Do they offer veggie or chicken broth as an alternative to the beef broth?

Sure do and the veggie broth is delicious. I had to keep asking every time if it wasn't chicken. Very flavorful!

I got the pho ($21.78), which is steep for pho, but I guess that's Midtown prices for you. The wait was a slog--over 20 minutes for a bowl of pho, which other Yelp reviews warned about. When it finally arrived, the soup lacked that authentic pho aroma, which was a letdown. On the plus side, the beef was fresh, and the reusable to-go bag was a nice touch. Decent, but the wait and price make it hard to love. Might try again if they speed things up.

I ordered "Plain Pho", which is described as just broth and noodles, no garnish or meat. After waiting 30 minutes, for what is literally the simplest item on the menu, the bowl is brought out and it's a bowl of broth with a couple slices of chicken. No noodles. When I inquired, the server told me it's because I ordered the Plain Pho... yea and I said it comes with noodles and broth. They told me they could get me noodles, but acted like they were doing me a favor by fetching noodles for me, which was quite offputting because the noodles were quite literally half of the dish I actually ordered. How does one wait half-an-hour at a very casual fast Vietnamese food place, for premade soup and noodles, and still have the order wrong? In the end, I did get my noodles and broth, but the fact that I had to spend this much time and also justify my request for noodles (which are part of the dish) is quite insane. I put this at 2 stars for now, because I enjoyed my first time. Hopefully the service will improve.

So when my family stumbled into Pho 39, a tiny spot with just a handful of tables tucked away from the chaos outside, it felt less like finding a restaurant and more like discovering a Rebel outpost that somehow survived undetected in the middle of Imperial territory. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a solid Vietnamese spot: pho, combination rice plates, the usual lineup. We were ready to order and move on with our lives. Then we saw the tacos. Vietnamese tacos. On the menu. Sitting right there between the banh mi and the spring rolls like they'd always belonged. Nobody in my family said anything for a full three seconds, which for us is basically a standing ovation. We ordered the duck spring rolls to start, which were fresh, well packed, and disappeared faster than a starfighter in hyperspace. For the mains we went with the beef flank pho and the banh mi combination special. The pho had a clean, well developed broth that clearly had some time put into it, and the beef flank was tender enough to make you slow down and pay attention. The banh mi combo was solid, balanced, and hit all the right notes. We did not get the tacos this visit, which means we have a built in reason to return and nobody can argue with that logic. For a small room in the middle of one of the busiest cities on the planet, Pho 39 manages to feel genuinely calm and focused.
