This is my go to spot for pho in the west village! The beef pho is amazing. I love the noodles because they feel angel-hair-esq and they really make the dish delicious. Made reservations through Yelp on a Sunday afternoon which was not needed since there was plenty of space but kudos for having reservations in place (Looking at you Madame Vo and Hanoi House). We ordered the steamed clams in lemongrass special for an appetizer, clams were a decent size but a bit bland. They had an option for grilled clams so maybe that might have been better. The three (DL/HT) were being basic and ordered the pho and it was decent. My friends didn't like the broth and the fact that normally veggies on the side were served with it. I feel guilty for not giving 5 stars... but that rating is reserved only for orgasm-inducing locations. This restaurant is a great addition to the neighborhood. It is absolutely the first I've ever gone to where the server said, "just get a few appetizers, you don't need an entre. Why spend the money?" That alone deserves a star! Our "dinner" with a beer and a wine came to $20 each. We had the Vietnamese pancake, and flank steak with eggs. Both came in generous servings and with instructions from the staff on how to eat them. (The pancake works like Korean BBQ. You cut it in pieces, wrap the pieces in lettuce, then dip.) The sauce on both dishes was sweet, but there is Sriracha on the table if that's your choice. Had a dinner date with two of my friends on a Friday night around 6:30pm. When we arrived there were a couple of tables occupied already, but there were still many seats left so we picked a good time to come. We ordered fried calamari, 2 bowls of the special short rib pho for my friends, and one grilled chicken vermicelli noodles/ bun with a spring roll (which is an extra charge) for myself. The calamari came first and we noticed that it was plated on top of some chopped veggies which is something that we don't see often. Then the rest of our food came. My grilled chicken bun looked colorful with the different colors with the pickled carrots and spring roll. The amount of chicken and veggies on the bottom was abundant, however I wish there was a bit more vermicelli noodles. However, the chicken seemed a bit salty to me compared to others which I've tried. The sauce that came along with the noodles may have been saltier than what I'm used to and since I poured it all over my chicken and noodles it became too salty. The spring roll had a nice crunchy exterior and lots of filling in the inside. My friends who both ordered the special short rib pho thought that the short rib and soup was good. Each rib was really big, but one of my friends didn't get a rib bone in hers so she had a few more bites of meat. Overall, I think this is a good Vietnamese restaurant to stop by for lunch or dinner. Good prices, friendly service, and spacious location. I ordered the pork chop rice vermicelli and my husband got the short rib pho. Both dishes were a little sweeter than I was used to -- not a bad thing, but just different. The short rib was very generous and tender, and I liked the thickness of the rice vermicelli in my dish. Finally gave the famous short rib pho a try! Honestly it was wayyy too much meat for me, it is one whole rib, with tons of meat on it. Probably because I don't eat a lot meat usually, the meat filled me up really fast and I didn't even finish half of my noodles.. there wasn't a lot soup when it first came so l asked the waiter to add more. Although it is definitely delicious, i think it's just ordinary pho with a lot meat, kinda reminds me of Chinese short rib soup, and I don't think it is worth the hype. The pho short rib was pretty fantastic! Decided to come here for lunch around 12:30 after reading a few positive reviews on here. There was no wait, unlike the other pho place around the corner that always has lines going out the door. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the pho short rib, which was quite different than your standard beef pho. I do believe the short rib is off-menu, so you just need to ask for it. They give you an extra plate with a fork and knife so you can cut the short rib. Honestly, it was probably some of the best short rib I've ever had. My point of reference is having lived in New Orleans for 6 years and eating tons of amazing pho there....so to say the least, I still haven't found my pho place in NYC...this place is just okay.
