I've been wanting to try Hemingway for a while now and decided to celebrate my birthday here this year. We could not have been happier with our experience! Having a birthday 2 days after Valentine's Day always makes reservations tricky but luckily we called far enough in advance to get a table for Saturday night. The staff was very friendly and helpful, our server was wonderful and great with recommendations and suggestions. The food (seafood tower, American Wagyu strip which was a special, corn and mushrooms) was all perfectly cooked/seasoned/presented, and same for the cocktails. First of all love the ambiance in here! The low lighting and how it is in a basement on cherry street. You can tell they really paid attention to detail and it is very ornamental in here. I loved the women's bathroom. It was Beautiful. We split the tomahawk. I would rate it a 7/10 it was okay. I started off with the French onion soup. It wasn't your traditional French onion so it wasn't what i was expecting but it also wasn't bad but it wasn't the best? Hubbs had the prawns and he said they were 10/10! We had the cream of spinich for a side and of course the bread was so good. Service was wonderful almost too good ? I felt she was hovering over our table until the very end we couldn't find her to pay our bill. Overall it was a nice experience- I took my husband here for his birthday and they gave him a complimentary champagne flute. I had an ice tea. The atmosphere immediately sets the tone. You walk through a single door in an alley and find a dark mahogany staircase, dimly lit, leading down into a large upscale/elegant restaurant. Waiter spilled butter and wine on his new shirt he got that day and then only refilled his glass to the line it spilled at (cheap for such an expensive dinner). Received a Clorox pen with the receipt to "make it better" After we talked with the manager, he said he would email us a coupon for us to have a better experience next time and that email was never received. We ordered a rosé with the appetizer that did not come to the table until after we were finished with the appetizers. Then we ordered a Cabernet in which the server brought the wrong bottle to the table 3 times in a row. On the third attempt, he began to argue with us at the table over what we were trying to order when we were looking for specific vintage. At no point did the manager come over, even though he saw the server arguing with us from the host stand a few feet away To top off the meal, one person at the table, wanted a Zinfandel with their steak, and the waiter brought a white Zinfandel with a smirk on his face as he put it on the table. This is perhaps the most beautiful room in Tulsa. And the food and the service are first rate as well. Three of the six people at our table had filets that were all excellent. The creamed corn, the hasselback au gratin potatoes and the onion rings were all great as well. Others in our party went a little healthier with salads and seafood and were pleased with their chioices. Two tried (and loved) the french onion soup. We ordered the Lamb Lollipops, the Obligatory Wedge, The NY Strip, Pasta & Muscles, with Shitake Aigre-Doux. For dessert we enjoyed The Basque-Style "Burnt" Cheesecake. The mushrooms were sublime, the cheesecake light, fluffy and very tasty. My wife's muscles were good, but were served cooler than she would have preferred. The cut of my steak, as others have commented, defied my expectations of what a NY Strip steak should be (i.e, thick and longer than wide) as it "looked" more like a very large and very thin cut ribeye. That aside, the meat was cooked to perfection and tasty, though unexpectedly I did a bit more gristle that I would have liked. One highlight was the miso butter which enhanced the meat's taste in ways I would not have thought possible. Overall, I can recommend Hemingway's as a destination for a nice night out. My husband is facing a wall with his back towards the restaurant I could see then I needed to talk to host for alternative sitting. The host basically said that is a table for two and that is all we are getting. They don't give table for 4 to 2 people Restaurant was far from full and dinner rush was almost over at 7:30 specially on a Monday night. Host and manager were inflexible and did not care...
