Well, that was fun! Fun without the pocket full of quarters! This is not an arcade but rather a museum based on donations. It works well though. If you were an adolescent back when these games entered the scene, and liked them....then you MUST visit. If the games aren't enough, the owners are pretty cool. They keep it dark inside with colored lights speckling the walls while 80's tunes fill the space. The flip side to this awesomeness - no food or drink. After all, these are mostly authentic games that need to be protected from that sort of thing. I suggest getting a small group together, get the $10 wristband to give yourself plenty of time to play, play for a bit, take a food/drink break near by, then come back for more! Take it back to the good old days when you put in a quarter into a video game machine during your sport team's pizza party and that's what you have at High Scores Arcade....well EXCEPT you get unlimited play and if you die, its auto respawn with where you had started, which is great for me since I'm pretty bad.... $5 for an hour and $10 for the whole day. My boyfriend and I only bought an hour because we had other plans, but we had so much fun. We loved playing the old originals like Donkey Kong Jr., Pac-Man, and Street Fighter. My boyfriend felt like he was back in the 80s for sure. I totally suggest this for a date because there are soooo many 2 player games plus you learn a lot about your significant other like my bf is awful at fighting games and I'm awful at Mario :( TIP: Be patient and hopefully you like children because they are everywhere, but dont worry you will get a turn. read more

I took two of my nephews here and I will never step foot in again. Not because the games are bad it's the terrible lightning. They have red and blue lighting fixture for show or trying to be creative but it me terrible for your eyes. My eyes are sensitive so if something doesn't feel right then I know it's not good for me. You will notice your eyes will be straining the whole time playing. I don't not recommend this place for anyone, especially kids until they change the lighting to be more practical instead of trying to look cool. read more

Bringing back memories from my childhood. This place plays cool music and has the right number of games. The arcade was my number one hangout as a kid and this place is nostalgia for me. Super fun place. They have an excellent selection and they're constantly rotating cabinets and bringing new stuff, too. Can't beat $5 an hour with unlimited play! It's pretty small in there but they have the classic video games that I grew up playing and you don't have to put in any quarters. My husband and I had fun in there playing different games and the gentleman who gave us our wristbands was really nice and gave us a quick info about the place. Yelp 100 Challenge 2018 (23/100) This place was fun for what it is. For some reason, I was just expecting more of a Dave & Busters with more games that you can play against friends. So that was my bad for the misconception. Other than that, it's extremely cheap, just $6 for an hour. And we had an awesome time just goofing around and playing some games that we hadn't touched in years. Although the space is crowded with games and people on a Saturday afternoon, we never had to wait to play any of the games (except just a very short wait to play the popular racing game). Super fun! Great mix of arcade cabinets as well as a few multicade units - including one that is all NES! We did the $12 for all day rate, and ended up spending around 2.5 hrs there. Our trip was shortly after opening on a Sunday, and it never got too busy where we felt like we had to wait. We also got 10% off at the ice cream/candy shop next door by showing our wristbands. A great place to relive the old arcade games of your childhood, from the classics like PAC man to my favorite NBA Jam, it can be a bit cramped and hot in there during the summer, but I just found out they opened another place in Hayward and would have to find some time to check it out. read more

Only here for a couple days and we accidentally stumbled across this place.. what a surprise! We loved it as our area in LA doesn't have that many quality arcades. It was a refreshing experience especially because the machines work by button and not coins. $6 / hour is a fair deal. And I personally loved the lighting and 80s music selection that played.. also was very pleased to play one of my fav games:puzzle fighter. High Scores features an awesome selection of early 80s arcade games. Very well maintained, which is all too rare these days on the rare occasion you are actually able to find arcade machines up and running. The owners are absolutely awesome people who respond well to any issues you may have. They really love the games and it shows. They also have a handful of more recent games, and a huge selection of 80s and 90s games on a very nice custom multicade machine that has some custom controls like trackballs and dials built in. Can't recommend this place enough. I hope to go back many times, and I wish there were more places like this still around. read more

Wow. I came here with my six year old and I was suddenly back in the 1980s, all without Doc Brown or a hot tub!!! Pretty much any game that was in an arcade during the 1980s was here with only one or two exceptions I could recall, but that is still an utterly amazing feat! If these folks somehow find Crazy Climber or Marble Madness, I will find a way to add a sixth star on yelp! :) The folks in the museum was a mix of kids and 40 somethings, and the group of kids were sharing certain games well and politely taking turns with their favorites - namely the driving games. Playing a video game on an arcade cabinet is not the same as playing on a home console, even if you are playing a retro game. The sounds and physical experience of standing at the cabinet with other watching, the unique controller (like the Paperboy bike handles or the Tron blacklight grip), the ache in your forearm after playing Punch Out! for 45 minutes. Great spot, perfect for a Sunday afternoon or a kid's birthday hangout. We hosted several of our son's friends for his 8th birthday this weekend and it was a hit! It wasn't until I found High Scores on a random walk home from a gluttonous Park Street venture for ice cream that my life was once again made whole. The mainstay of my childhood is no longer just a pleasant figment of my cloudy mind scape. Nay, the arcade is, once again. The only problem is that even after two and a half decades, I am still absolutely horrible at Tron. I really like that you don't need to dig for quarters to play here. We came during our Friday night family outing and stated for an hour ($5 unlimited play for an hour or $10 all day)...which is forever with a 4 yr old. My child had a lot of fun and has been obsessed with Pac Man and Donkey Kong since seeing that movie "Pixels." It was cool to be able to show him the REAL games instead of just downloading an app or whatever. I wanted to take a second to say thank you to the owners of High Scores video game arcade (on Park St in Alameda) for such an AMAZING night on Saturday. My best friend's husband turned 40 on Saturday, and we were able to have a private party (for about 15 of us) at High Scores for 2 hours in the evening. Imagine the joy a bunch of 30 & 40-somethings felt playing all the games (& many more!) from our childhood. (Hellooooo, Burgertime!) Man, their collection of vintage games is SO awesome, the joint is super fun,(love the dark lighting and colored lasers!) Plus the operators just really welcoming, cool people.
