Beautiful setting with an amazing patio that makes you want to sit, relax, and enjoy one of their handcrafted cocktails. The inside is just as nice. I loved the booths . They give a cozy, quaint feeling. The open kitchen is fun to watch and makes you feel like you're part of the action. We started with a couple of sushi rolls, all excellent, and the focaccia, which was very delicious. For mains, we had the steak frites, hamburger, and cheeseburger. All were delicious. The small side salad and the taboulé were also very tasty. Parking could be tricky and I definitely recommend reservations.

Hillstone very rarely disappoints. The food is consistently excellent, whether it's the French dip, sushi, ribs, or chicken sandwich, everything on the menu is delicious! Probably one of my favorite dining experiences in Phoenix. The service is usually top notch but the last handful of times the service has noticeably gone down hill: waters were consistently empty, plates were not cleared from the table, and we rarely saw our waitress.

Who knew some of the best sushi in town is at Hillstone?! Crisp clean n pristine. Can't miss with the burger, ribs, and pretty much anything else. Wine list is great and the markup is extremely reasonable compared to any other restaurant. Great atmosphere and service is consistently good

    Introducing... Ebony!

Exceptional Sunday Brunch & A Fantastic New Addition to the Team! Our post-church Sunday brunch at Hillstone in Phoenix is always a highlight of our week, but our recent visit was truly special. We kicked off a flawless meal with the Smoked Salmon and toast points, which is always a perfect starter. For our main courses, my husband thoroughly enjoyed the tender, flavorful ribs and coleslaw, while I had the beautifully prepared Tuna Niçoise salad. The kitchen never misses a beat! What made this visit truly unforgettable, however, was our server, Ebony. We were delighted to find out it was her very first day on the floor, and she absolutely blew us away. From the moment she stepped up to our table, we were captivated by her beautiful smile and her warm, fun spirit. We even had the privilege of witnessing a milestone moment: her very first attempt at Hillstone's signature technique--using two back-to-back spoons as an improvised pair of tongs. She handled it like an absolute pro and was a total success! Ebony's fantastic energy added so much joy to our dining experience. We are already looking forward to our future visits and receiving more of her great service. Welcome to the team, Ebony! Review Details Overall Rating: 5/5 stars Recommended Dishes: Smoked Salmon, Ribs, Tuna Niçoise Salad Service Highlight: Ebony was attentive, enthusiastic, and highly professional!

Tried the famous artichoke appetizer, French dip and the filet. The dip with the artichoke was phenomenal. The filet was delicious. One of the best we have had across the valley. The potatoes on the side were also a delcious addition. The French dip was good but no wow factor- felt like something you could get at any other deli. Ended the meal with the walnut apple cobbler which was also a great addition. Attentive and polite service as one would hope from a high end restaurant. Overall, a great dining experience and will be back.

From start to finish Hillstone is amazing! It is busy and you should have a reservation before you go. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and a bar. Hillstone has figured out the perfect restaurant lighting so it is not too dark but dim enough so the feel is tranquil and calming. Although we had a reservation we did wait about 10 minutes to be seated. The host that seated us apologized for this inconvenience as did our server and the manager who came by to check on us. They also comped our appetizer because of this delay (so nice). The service was impeccable. We started out with the Osaka Style Pressed Sushi. I can't imagine going to Hillstone and not ordering this dish. It is beautifully plated and delectable. For our mains we had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the French Dip. Both were perfection! And both are a generous size and include a side so we took lots of leftovers home. But we still wanted dessert so we ordered the Key Lime Pie and it was fresh and tasty. I will be coming back to Hillstone!

Hillstone really shines with their sushi. The rest of their menu is underwhelming and not what I would expect from a fancier restaurant that requires a dress code. The presentation of my steak was lacking and I felt like I was being served a dish at a hospital. However, the sushi. The sushi is innovative, delicious, and beautifully presented. I'm allergic to shellfish which typically really limits my ability to eat sushi. There are still multiple items on the menu for me to order from. The service here is on par with multiple servers working together to give you the best experience. My husband and I have decided this will be our go to sushi spot from now on.

I finally visited Hillstone after living right across the street for several years. The wait was always so long that I eventually gave up trying but I finally made it in. One thing to note right away: every time I've gone inside, it's been extremely loud. The energy is high, but it can definitely make conversation harder if you're looking for a quieter dining experience. For appetizers, we ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip and the Smoked Salmon. They were good, but honestly just okay. Tasty, but nothing particularly memorable. The wood-fired rotisserie chicken was amazing ! The dish was flavorful, chicken was perfectly cooked. The prime French dip was also excellent and very satisfying. Cocktail-wise, the selection is fairly limited, and they don't make custom cocktails upon request. That can be a downside if you're craving something specific or more creative. Overall, the experience was good. While it's loud and the appetizers didn't wow me, the entrées were strong enough that I'd return to try different menu items and drinks at another time.

I visited Hillstone in Phoenix, Arizona around noon on October 16th for lunch with a friend. We were promptly greeted and seated at a two-top near the bar. Our beverages were delivered, and our server, Ann, who appeared to be training another team member, began to assist us. From the start, the level of service did not reflect the standard I have consistently experienced with Hillstone Group restaurants across different states. The interaction felt cold and transactional, with no warmth, menu guidance, or recommendations offered. The energy was notably standoffish. My guest and I ordered sushi. I requested a simple modification to the cucumber and avocado roll by removing the avocado -- a request I've made before at Hillstone without issue. Ann stated she would confirm with the chef. She did arrive back speaking against it as the roll would be smaller. I told her I was fine with the portion. When the plate arrived, the roll presented looked noticeably different than the menu description: it contained cream-based sauce and fish roe, neither of which was listed on the menu. Initially, I believed it was the wrong order. Ann confirmed that this was correct and that only the avocado had been removed. However, the tone and expression made me feel as though I was being dismissed, as if, "this is what you always get." I asked for the item to be removed from the table and later from the bill, as I did not consume it. Despite this, it still appeared on the check. When I asked again, Ann stated she would speak to the manager. Instead of her returning, Manager Luke approached the table and in a scolding tone informed us that in the future, if any modifications are made to an order, it cannot be removed from the bill. He stated he would "do it this one time," as though it was a favor. Additionally, when my guest pointed out that the extra toppings were not listed anywhere on the menu, Luke responded saying, "there wasn't enough space on the menu." That reasoning is concerning, especially considering potential food allergies or dietary restrictions. Full transparency of ingredients should never be optional in a restaurant of this caliber. I have a dairy allergy so I would have liked to know this. There was no thank you, no acknowledgment, no courtesy -- not even a smile. I left feeling unwelcome and singled out, which is disheartening given my longtime support of Hillstone locations in both Phoenix and Houston. This experience did not reflect the hospitality or professionalism typically associated with the Hillstone brand. The tone, lack of accountability, and dismissive demeanor from both the server and manager left a lasting negative impression. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I do not feel comfortable returning to this location.

I stopped in mid-afternoon just as the place was starting to get busy and grabbed a seat at the bar for a cocktail. The staff was incredibly friendly from the moment I walked in, and the atmosphere was great--bright, open, and welcoming, with the doors open to the patio so you get a nice indoor/outdoor vibe. My cocktail came out surprisingly fast, which I appreciated. I ordered the steak frites, and the steak was perfect--extremely tender, cooked exactly to temperature, and filling without being too heavy. The fries were a great complement. I'd definitely come back again; the menu has plenty of other options I'm excited to try. Highly recommend!

I love Hillstone every time we come here. The customer service is always excellent. We had a longer wait for our table this visit, and they generously comped our appetizer, which was such a nice touch. Our waitress was incredibly helpful and friendly, and I love that they refresh your martini glass. We always start with the spinach dip. It is simple but done so well, and I especially love the addition of sour cream that comes with it. The ribeyes were cooked perfectly, and I added the miso vinaigrette to my kale panzanella for extra flavor, which really elevated the dish. I do wish they had more dessert options, but overall Hillstone remains one of my favorite spots in the Valley because it is so consistently good!!

Had the best date night experience at Hillstone a couple weeks ago! We started with some cocktails, and the Crisp Martini was soooo refreshing and delicious! We couldn't decide between the pressed sushi and the coconut shrimp roll, so we decided to get both! The pressed sushi was our favorite, and you can't go wrong with the spinach and artichoke dip to start as well! The French dip blew my mind, but the wedge salad fell a little short for me as it had golden beets and pickled carrots that weren't my favorite. The service was great, and I loved the touch of coming by with a cold martini glass halfway through! I'll definitely be back to try more dishes!

Three of us enjoyed a lunch at Hillstone today. From the moment we entered the property we knew we were in for a treat. The ambiance is very nice, classy and modern rustic. Quiet enough for pleasant conversations even during the lunch rush. The service was excellent as well. I had the rainbow roll, one had a pan-Asian noodle salad, and our third enjoyed the Yellow tail sashimi. It was a lovely meal!

We arrived a little after 5pm and the restaurant was mostly empty. But in the next 20 minutes it filled up and there was open sitting at the bar only. The mood was initially quiet but quickly turned more up beat as the restaurant filled and pop rock music was playing. We asked our waiter a few questions about a few of their rolls and he was very helpful with guidance and recommendations. We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. Our favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. We loved the pop the lemon added. Honorable mentions to the Spicy Tuna roll, very well done, excellent balance of heat and flavors. We truly enjoyed our dining experience and look forward to returning. Highly recommended for a quality sushi experience!

The sushi itself was decent, nothing crazy, but definitely better than grocery store quality. The tuna and salmon pieces were a little fishy, maybe not the freshest, but it was also quite late (~10pm) so I wasn't expecting too much. Beautifully presented, and the cuts were quite large which was nice! The food came out pretty fast, and the service was pleasant. The restaurant vibes are pretty dark, and moody. I still haven't eaten my food because I'm still waiting for my drink. When I go out to a restaurant, I do expect my drink to be delivered before my food. However, I understand things happen. I did order the frozen blood orange margarita. Since that is just a Liverpool, I would think it would've come out already. So just a few notes: *please be sure of serving items in clean dishes * please prioritize drinks before food

The appetizer was amazing, we each got the crispy rice and I love that each one was a different fish and slightly different flavor. I don't remember which roll we got, I think it was the blue dragon one, but that was delicious, good amount of rice and fish and great flavor. The truffle rib pasta was good as well, the short ribs were cooked perfectly and the flavor on that was insane. I do wish that they would've tossed the pasta in the same sauce the rib came in before adding it to the red pasta sauce. The pasta sauce itself lacked flavor and just tasted like blended down tomatoes. If the pasta had a scoop of the rib sauce too, that would be absolutely insane!! For dessert we didn't have a choice and it was just the miso caramel cheesecake. Now that is some of the best cheesecake I've had in an incredibly long time. I don't taste the miso flavor in the caramel besides the salty sweetness of it but that combo was perfect, especially with the homemade candied pecans. I don't know if the cheesecake was left out or purposefully like that but I love how when the cheesecake was served it wasn't cold! Usually cheesecake is served really cold and kind of like a cream cheese brick you have to cut into it with your fork. But this was barely chilled so the cheesecake was not super cold and it just melts in your mouth. It's so smooth, best dish of the night hands down. This place was very nice and great location. Everything is clean and a great ambience. There's a bar you can sit at when you walk in before you go to the tables. I do think that every side smaller table should automatically have the table lamp for light because it was just too dark to see the menu from my perspective. It looks like great lighting in the pictures because the phone took it in night mode and corrected the lighting but... it's a bit dark and I saw that they do have those modern battery table lamps so I think every table against the wall should have it. Now onto why it's only 4 stars. The service was so beyond incredibly slow. I kid you not we waited 35min at least before our first dish was served and it wasn't even the appetizer, it was the entree rib pasta. You could tell just how short staffed they were and you could hear that there's only 1 sushi chef 1 regular chef and that's it for the kitchen. I don't know who is managing the shift schedule, maybe it's because we came on Memorial Day, but this type of service is not acceptable. I don't take this on the employees at all. They were so incredibly nice and apologetic and doing the best they can and even the front of house was now bussing tables to help out!!! Because they're so busy, I had to keep reminding different waiters for small things like ginger for my sushi 3x, refill on my water, and he almost said we're good to go without paying the check but we didn't even receive our cheesecake dessert yet OR paid the bill. In total it took us 2 hours from sitting down, ordering within 5min, and waiting and waiting and waiting to eat... inexcusable on management

Catfished! Pictures are deceptive. This is tough...I was excited to try this place as a trusted…read morefoodie friend said the food was good. That was NOT at all my experience. I will mention the place is designed very nicely. For starters the food was bland, except the shishito peppers. The peppers were fantastic and that's the only thing I enjoyed. The ramen was second best compared to the other items. Edamame was good. The sushi roll, seaweed would not break down as I was chewing it and the roll didn't have much flavor to it. Now for the reason for the two stars...the crispy rice. The bites are soooo big I had to cut them in half in order to eat it (good thing) because when I broke the second one in half; I found a black HAIR about the same length of a finger cooked in the rise (I'm blonde by the way). I was shocked and hate complaining. I wasn't going to say anything as I lost my appetite. My friend who was dinning with me, said something politely. The waiter said okay I'll get you another one and ran away with the plate before we got a chance to said we didn't want another one. We saw him show the manager and she okayed him to make another. I was shocked the manager or waiter didn't apologize, wasn't shocked by it, acted normal like nothing was wrong. For this reason I will not be returning. Again my other friend had a great experience and I had a bad one, so 50/50 shot. I know we are human and mistakes happen. It was the way it was handled that drop the rating. Along with bland food for the price.
