The food here is awesome! Everything we ordered last night was delicious. We had the shrimp tempura roll, smoked salmon appetizer, deviled eggs and a Cadillac margarita (which now reading back sounds like a weird combo but it was great)! Super cute waitress and very helpful. We even ordered the salmon to go for the next day. My only issue with this restaurant is the waitlist for the bar. That bar is always jammed. They need to add more stools by the entrance of the bar. The waitlist at the bar for the bar is not my favorite. First come first serve for me. Beautiful patio / bar area for cooler part of the season would be a great place to hang out and imbibe in some cocktails. Staff were wonderful and service was great. Started off with their delicious spinach and artichoke dip that included chips, salsa and sour cream Shared a wedge salad and was thrown off with the thousand island dressing and pickled carrots, but it was enjoyable. Ordered the salmon and Dover Sole fish (definitely get the sole since they don't have it but 2-3 days a week) you won't regret it. Amazing service throughout the night. Took my girlfriend out for her birthday and it was a great experience.

Today was a very embarrassing situation when I made reservations for 4 people. We were finally seated for the four of us after a wait despite our reservations. When my husband was able to join us and called, I invited him since we had plenty of room. I did not know that we could not add a 5th person at our table even though we had an extra chair. We were served our drinks and then a manager came over and asked us to leave. We were asked to leave even though the table was clearly large enough to seat 5-6 people; there were 2 extra chairs and a half booth that easily seated the 5 of us. The manager would not allow us to stay at the table we were at either until the another table opened up. He was not pleasant. The whole experience was embarrassing since we knew many business associates at the restaurant as we were asked to get up and leave the table just because 'the optics' were not ideal even though we all fit with plenty of room. Hillstone definitely missed the mark! Save your money and avoid their unwelcoming attitude and consider Capital Grille for lunch where you will be welcomed! read more

When I requested a 4 chair "table" upon viewing the 4 person "booth" they were going to use, one Host said she had to check with the front first because sometimes they reserve the chairs for 4 people. I wish I could say my first visit to Hillstone lived up to the hype, but instead it ended with me in the ER. Yes, the ER. Not exactly the "five star dining" I was expecting. I told the server right when I sat down that I have a mustard allergy. I was reassured multiple times that nothing I ordered including my appetizer, drink, and chicken sandwich contained mustard. At no point during ordering did anyone bother to mention otherwise. So I ate. Within minutes my throat was swelling, I could not breathe properly, and I was struggling to swallow water while sitting in the middle of a busy dining room. I flagged a server and eventually the manager brought me Benadryl, but his level of concern was about a 2 out of 10. Let's just say I have seen people more worried about a spilled drink. And the staff smirking in my direction while I was trying to breathe? Embarrassing does not even begin to describe it. The part that really blows my mind is that the servers and manager insisted the only thing with mustard was the fries, and this was after I had already eaten the chicken sandwich and was clearly having a reaction. So there I am, mid allergic reaction, Googling the sandwich myself and discovering mustard is one of the first ingredients in the sauce. Imagine that. Me, the guest in medical crisis, doing food allergy fact checking on my phone while management and staff stand there clueless. For the record, I am not a complainer. I do not like attention and I certainly did not want it here. But when negligence sends me to the ER, silence is not an option. After I paid, no one came by to check on me. No one asked if I was okay as I walked out. Just me leaving, feeling humiliated and dismissed after what could have been a life threatening situation. If this is how Hillstone handles food allergies, retraining and serious changes are long overdue. My "special lunch" turned into a medical emergency, and I will not be back. If you have allergies, I would think long and hard before dining here. read more

I have four people plus a baby and they told me that they don't allow strollers high chairs or booster seats in the dining room and that they had no reservations for parties over four and it's walk in only yet they only have 2 tables that seat over 4. I told them that my baby will not take up any space in the booth and it can be really considered for people and she told me no, I feel like every time I have ever gone in they just make things so difficult and it's such a turn off hence why their reviews are only 4.0 yet their food is great. read more

Whether a business lunch, happy hour, or weekend, I've always enjoyed Hillstone's service, food, and atmosphere. We came in recently with our 8 month old grandson and learned the hard way that they are not family friendly. It was a summer Monday a little after 1pm. Our daughter was craving a great salad and Hillstone came to mind, figured we may have good luck with it being a weekday and Phoenix's "low"season. Folks walking by continuously complimented how sweet our grandson was. They asked if he would enjoy any fruit or veggies, which was really nice - great strategy for keeping him quiet! While waiting for our appetizers, our grandson would occasionally let out an excited, short little squeal, maybe every 5-10 minutes. Not a cry, not fussing, just playing with his toys, eating fruit, and doing baby things. Our appetizers were served and someone (not our server) came by and asked us to please take the baby outside until he calms down. He wasn't making a peep at that time. Our son-in-law started to get up but I asked him not to because the baby was not being fussy at all. There were no occupied tables immediately surrounding us. Our server came back to check on the apps and take the rest of our order. I asked him if that request was serious, the baby is not fussing. He apologized and said he didn't know we were going to be asked to take the baby out and that we shouldn't because he seems fine. We got our food and uncomfortably, hurriedly tried to eat the rest of our meal. By the end, our grandson did start to get fussy. A second, different person came by to ask us to take the baby outside. We left, upset with the overall experience and how awkward and unwelcome we felt. Lesson learned, really enjoy Hillstone but will not return with small children and may not return for a long while because of this experience. read more

Treated so well and all staff were very attentive. Our server was Kenzie and she was attentive and exquisitely professional. Our food was delicious. Where to start...... The food is actually really good, but there is so much more to a restaurant experience than just the food!! For starters, trying to figure out how to get in and to the proper front desk, was no easy task. We had a reservation but were a bit early and they told us to wait in the bar, after looking us up and down for our attire, which was perfect if not better than requirements!!! Upon sitting at the bar, and then finding out we weren't next (huh?) for a bar seat, this did not feel welcoming. And it was a bit embarrassing, as they made such a scene about it!!! We were then told to wait on the benches at the front, when there was plenty of seating in this other nearby "holding area", which we eventually sat at, got drinks and apps and waited to be called. Confusing still!!! Finally got to our table and the restaurant was freezing. Also the table was obviously too close to the kitchen, because all we saw for an hour and a half, where the waitresses, no waiters in sight, going back-and-forth, almost in a marching mechanical way up and down up and down and across. What is that all about, and SO distracting when you are trying to eat!!!!! Like I said, have to give credit where credit is due, and the food was really good, but the entire experience was exhausting and confusing and definitely not cheap! We were given the wrong check originally, and were never offered dessert. Obviously they could not wait to turn over our table and that is a hard pill to swallow. Would I return? We used to have two Houston restaurants where I live and both closed for unexplained reasons. They were super popular, always a lengthy dinner waitlist and a hot bar scene. So whenever I travel and can enjoy their food, I get a reservation pronto. The Hillstone location on Camelback was super close to my hotel. We started with the classic Spinach & Artichoke Dip, followed by the yummy Deviled Eggs, that taste homemade. Sushi is something you don't find at Houston's, so an order of Spicy Tuna Rolls was next. Perfect! The Thai Noodle Salad without protein looks stunning and oh so tasty. The signature Famous French Dip sandwich is a must. Thinly sliced prime rib served on a French roll. It is the gold standard for this sandwich! It was perfect evening. We had a great server who had worked at Hillstone, Houston's and the Cherry Creek Grill in Denver. Quite disappointing on our Sunday night visit. I have enjoyed lunches since their opening, but, Sunday dinner did not measure up. Our party of four was seated timely, and, we were greeted promptly by our waitperson. After a few minutes we ordered appetizers, which were delicious. We told our server we were celebrating a Birthday, as we placed our dinner orders. They arrived in a timely amount of time. The crab cakes were flavorless and really greasy, not at all browned on the outside. The Grilled Chicken Salad was so overdressed it was swimming in dressing. Houston's is way better, their sister restaurant. The fillet was medium-rare to rare, when it was ordered medium. The French dip was perfection. At the end of the dinner, two wanted de-calf, when we were told they do not serve de-calf. Buy a Keric machine. When she presented the check, there was not even a cupcake or acknowledgment of the birthday we were celebrating, when I saw a waitperson go by earlier with one with a lit candle. There are so many high end restaurants in the area, so we will move on to another. read more

We then ordered the trout. They were out. We then placed our order again.
