When you walk into a place and the first thing you hear is "SHOT-O-CLOCK!!!" you know it's gonna be a damn good time. Some friends and I were looking for a new space to study, and Hippie's Brew seemed like the perfect place to hang out and caffeinate ourselves. It was a stormy Sunday, and we stumbled through the screen door a slopping wet mess, but the staff greeted us with booming exultation and then proceeded to hand us shots of their cinnamon coffee while yelling that it's shot-o-clock. Turns out we walked in at precisely the right time. I can imagine no better way to be greeted at a coffee shop. After the madness of that was over (and we were all pretty much convinced that they put crack in their coffee because it was GOOD), we ordered some food and drinks and found a space to relax. I am a sucker for sweet/savory, so I got the Freakin' French Toast and the boyfriend got a Bae & Eggs. For drinks, I went with a hot Rick Ross and he went for a cold Ice Loves Coco. Freakin' French Toast was freakin' amazing. A little bit messy with the powdered sugar but packed with everything that I wanted in a French toast sandwich. The coffee here is strong af and I LOVE IT. It's exactly what I'm looking for to get me energized and ready to take on the world (or, in this case, my textbooks). Staff is super friendly and chill! You can tell they all love working there and love interacting with their customers. The space inside isn't super huge, so you'll be lucky to find a space when it's crowded. Also beware if you're bringing a laptop -- there are no outlets, and they don't encourage you using laptops when the place is packed with people so that everyone can kind of cycle in and out and not be camped out forever. Basically, don't be that guy who buys one drink and then stays for five hours on a laptop Netflixing or gaming. Totally top-notch caffeine and good grub. The line was a bit long, but they gave us a free sample of their coffee while waiting. Everything was good, but the food didn't really stand out as anything super special, but it tasted good still. Hipsters paradise! If you love overpaying for culturally acceptable named food and drink to be cool on your social then this is your place! Ugh I wanted to try this place again since they moved from their former location on Foothill. Plus it was over 5 years too late to review. I have finally gone back to see if the experience would be better. Because the first time the menu was mainly stuffed french toast. Let's just say it was not good and never went back. Came here with my son and I was excited to try this newish menu?? I don't really remember what they had before. I was excited to try certain items but unfortunately when we came here they didn't have much. A lot of the menu was crossed off and even when I tried to order one of their drinks they were out of it and it was only noon. I wanted the Pepe le pew but was told they didn't have the tea and they only had the 40watah. I tried asking if they had the lychee syrup to put in the 40watah but then the register guy said they didn't have that either. Which he either doesn't understand how the drinks were made or the drinks are already premade. But either way he brushed it off like I was wasting his time gee what great customer service. We also got the mclovin. The wait was a bit ridiculous for this place. I think we waited like 20-30 mins to get two items. I can understand if they're busy but there were multiple groups all getting anxious for their order. What's really good is that they would call the customer orders from inside the building crossing their fingers that the customers who are outside will hear them. Like are you too lazy to walk outside to call the names?? Even when we got there we waited like 5 minutes until someone came to take our order. Leaving your outside ordering setup unattended how trusting. Ugh the mclovin is especially an overpriced microwaved egg mcmuffin with a chipotle aioli. The drink was poor too. It was literally more than half full of ice. Located next and I think connected to the new Hayward library. There is street and garage parking. Heavily overpriced for what you get. I paid almost $15 for two abysmal items. Solely based on just the register person I think their customer service is awful. Obviously the job is too hard for this person. I came here on a early Saturday morning with my bf. The line was already forming and they have marking on the floor to indicate the distance you should be keeping from each party. I ordered the Rick Ross and my bf ordered the yoncé, both less sugar and almond milk ( which does not work well with yoncé), the flavor was there but I have to say the caffeine wasn't hitting me as much as I was hoping it would. Probably my caffeine tolerance went up ... The staff here are very warm and welcoming. Which is a plus, they do call your name once your drink is ready, so if you have a common name, you might have to go up to the front very often. I really enjoyed my experience here - the staff followed COVID precautions and were extremely kind and friendly. I had a ton of questions about the menu and they were answered thoughtfully. I got the Rick Ro$$, and I found it was super sweet and rich for me but I learned later that I could've asked for adjustments / non-dairy milk, so I'll do so on my next trip! It's definitely super caffeinated and a fun wake-up call, and objectively delicious. There's also really cute seating right outside the shop, since it's part of a larger building and a to-go spot. Despite being really busy, the lines move quickly. I love the creativity of this spot and will definitely be back to try my drink with almond milk and reduced sweetness! read more

Very disappointed with the customer service. I come here to get coffee from time to time but I had a bad experience and it wasn't even a busy day! I believe that the heart of a business is your customers and the people that work there don't care, they're just there to do a job. They don't make conversation, I tried and I felt ignored. She was not interested whatsoever and brushed me off and took my order. Gave me a I don't care look, nodded and took my order. People have been Shelter in Place for a year and now that we are able to go out and kind of feel "normal" again, we want to have social interactions with people! That means making small talk with our barista, cashier, bagger, hairstylist etc. Customers are going to support your business so you can thrive but I can't support this kind of cuatomer service, it reflects badly on you! While I was waiting to order my coffee I was reading their Story that's on the wall and it was inspiring but never did I think I would walk out of their with a bad experience. Food poisoning waiting to happen. I never thought I'd be writing a bad review for this place until recently I've seen posts about it being unsanitary. MANY people on social media have agreed that we get these bad stomach aches after going here. Ive gone almost every day the past couple weeks and would get an iced coffee. I couldn't figure out what has been making me sick and then funny enough i saw these posts. Someone on ig also sent me their health inspection reviews. Not to mention their own employees have complained about their work conditions and how overworked they are. So gross and disappointing, i hope the health department is all over them ASAP. Finally got to see what the hype was about and automatically fell in love! LITERALLY I HAVE BEEN MSSING OUT. I've always been a huge fan of Philz Coffee's Iced Mint Mojito... but after today I feel like nothing could top the Ice Loves Coco! If I lived in Hayward or Union City, there would be no doubt that I'd become a regular. Legit Ice Loves Coco is Samoas Girl Scout Cookies in a cup, PURE LIQUID GOLD. The coco powder, cold brew, coconut sweet cream, and toasted coconut flakes is one big CHEFS KISS. For those of you hesitant or indecisive of coming because of the drive.. I promise you IT IS SO WORTH IT. Looking forward in trying other drinks & food items on the menu stopping the next time I'm in Hayward. This is one of my favorite local coffee shops. So glad they moved locations from Foothill with terrible parking to the Hayward Main Library right next to the parking structure and less than 2 blocks from my house. I've had nothing but positive experiences every time I go. The staff is super friendly and accommodating (will let you taste your drink and adjust levels if needed) and so happy they have jugs to go now. Really like the Gangsta's Paradise (like Philz but more creamy) but also newly converted to White Iverson (and I don't even like white chocolates/white mocha). We ordered through Grubhub but when we arrived, they said they didn't receive our order so we had to reorder. We ordered double orders of French toast sticks, which came with a side of cinnamon cream cheese and syrup. That cinnamon cream cheese was sooo good, I didn't even bother with the syrup. We also ordered cinnamon bread with a side of sausage. That maple sausage was so good, sweet and savory even my kids ate the soft cinnamon brioche. Cinnamon coffee was also delicious. Parking is on the street next to library and the closed park, which is not ideal. Watch out for oncoming traffic. read more

I don't really care for their food items but you can never go wrong with their croissants No inside space but they do add some picnic-like tables outside if you wanted to stay and enjoy your drink and do some light work. read more

5 stars for the iced coffee, AS WELL AS THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE! My first visit I ordered the Yonce and a baby jug of White Iverson. So delicious, velvety and not too sweet at all! If I wasn't so far I would make this my every day coffee spot... Brings me to my next point -- I decided since I can't always drive there I would use their coffee beans to make my own version and have it shipped to my home. I ended up ordering the wrong beans (ordered medium roast instead of espresso blend such an amateur). The person who answered the Hayward line told me I can contact someone to switch it out through Instagram DM, so I did, and got a lovely response within a matter of minutes! The person was extremely accommodating and nice about the entire thing, despite making them go out of their way to switch my order out. Try that with any other major coffee corporation -- suffice to say that HB customer service is *unmatched*. 100/10 recommend! read more

Hippie's Brew is definitely a Hayward staple and I'm so happy to hear that they've expanded to Union City! Though I do miss their Foothill Blvd location, this one (attached to the Hayward Public Library) is so so convenient and wonderful! Their coffee and food is great, I'm sure you all know that (highly recommend the Rick Ross or the Yonce, just based off their names alone if not for the yumminess of the drinks themselves) but I also love the way they've adapted to COVID-19! They're one of the first businesses I've seen move their till/register completely outside so that the only time you're entering the small store is to pick up your drink. During these crazy times, it's so so important for all of us to be safe and I appreciate the staff and team for this awesome adjustment. Good coffee...no sugar free options though for flavors... only stevia... which was a bummer as I'm type 1 diabetic and could not try all the fancy drinks they made that looked really good. I got a plain cold brew with cream and stevia...it was still amazing tasting. big fan. The french toast sticks were bomb and my sausage egg mcmuffin was amazing.. love how much cheese they pile on it. Only took one star off just because there were not many seating options and it definitely is a grab and go express place and they were very limited on their menu items when I went...but I believe that is due to covid. all in all it is a pretty good place to grab a quick breakfast. What a pleasant experience! Everyone was super nice and the service was so quick. I tried the gangsta's paradise and it was a tropical delight. The coconut bits at the top were such a nice touch. My partner tried the yonce and found it too sweet for his liking so he waited for the ice to melt into the drink a bit more before really getting into it. Personally, I love sweets so I enjoyed my coffee more than he did his. If you are looking for a strong coffee flavor, I would recommend asking to adjust the sweetness. Legit coffee spot! I was meeting a friend and she recommended this place so we tried it out! It's next to the post office and library so you'll need to park in the parking garage and it's free for a few hours depending on which one you park in. I parked a little further away and just walked over so it was good for up to four hours. The shop itself is pretty small in the corner and they don't really have any big signs that say hippies brew express - but I didn't check the other side to see so not sure if you would be able to. The door was open so when I walked in I knew I was at the right spot. All of their drinks sounded good but my friend and I got the Yonce which is the white mocha with caramel and it was bomb! Usually I've tasted similar drinks that were blended so I'm sure it would have been good blended but mine was iced. The cashier was really nice and welcoming as well and answered the questions that we had. There's also breakfast foods and sweets if you wanted a bite to eat as well! read more

This cafe is super small and has a major hipster feel to it hence the name!! As soon as you walk in you're greeted immediately by a very eccentric crew then you look to the left to see this bright and awesome mural painted on the wall. I love the artwork this along with the interesting employees really gives this place character. Upon coming here I did my research and checked them out on Yelp, reviews, pictures and such so I had somewhat of an idea of what I wanted food wise. The young lady behind the counter explained to me the type of coffee beverages they offered, she gave me her recommendations about drinks as well as sandwiches. I really appreciate when employees take the time to give you a break down of the menu. I like my coffee drinks on the sweeter side so I ordered a small Rick Ro$$ (aaugh) ($4.00) which is a cinnamon mocha and I just love the name and I also ordered the Cheddar Bacon Scone Sandwich ($6.50). The sandwich and coffee came out fairly fast which is good, the places gets really busy so they make sure to crank out those beverages and food items in a reasonable amount of time. Now I was apprehensive about the scone upon ordering because most scones I've had in the past have been a little on the dry and hard side. But when I saw this sandwich I knew I was in for a treat, the scone was so soft and moist and had a nice amount of bacon on top and a good cheddar flavor. The egg was cooked perfectly as well, with green onion and cheddar in each bite. I was very impressed with how yummy this sandwich was and the cinnamon mocha was great as well it almost reminded me of a Mexican Hot Chocolate with coffee in it. This place mainly specializes in drip coffee so it kind of is similar to Philz Coffee in that aspect but they do have some specialty coffee beverages as well as hot and iced teas. They have a variety of bagels, scones and muffins and even various sandwiches like The Smelly Cat, Freakin French Toast, Maclovin Muffin, Smores and Brown Bag Special. They really are cranking out good eats with unique names and putting a spin on coffee beverages all while trying to do simple drip coffee as well. They are trying to appeal to all people with different tastes and I can appreciate that. This is definitely a place I will keep coming back to but not all the time because they are a bit pricey which is why I docked them 1 star. *Highly Recommended* read more
