We came last Sunday around 2:30pm with a group of friends. The place wasn't too busy, which was great, we got seated right away, and the server took our drink orders pretty fast. Something I really liked about Hokkaido Buffet is how many options they have. Honestly, there's a little bit of everything: sushi, sashimi, seaweed salad, grilled meats like chicken and steak, shrimp, dumplings, fried wontons with cream cheese, plantains, pasta, rice... you name it! What I enjoyed the most was definitely the sushi and sashimi, super fresh and tasty. The dumplings and wontons with cream cheese were also really good. The plantains were sweet and just right, and I thought the rice and pasta had nice flavor too. We were a group of five, and each person paid around $34 for the buffet (before tip). I thought it was going to be a bit less, but maybe the price is higher for Sunday lunch, not 100% sure about that. We didn't try everything (it's a lot!), but overall I had a good experience. It's not a fancy place, but it's a solid buffet when you're craving variety and want to eat well without rushing. I'd come back for another casual lunch.

It's good for how much you pay since it's AYCE. They're good with refilling the dishes and it's never too busy.

It was my second visit in the last three years. For AYCE, food was ok. Some items tasted good. It was nice that they checked and kept refilling food. Sushi had 8-9 varieties. They made efforts to ensure quality. Honestly it was not bad at all. Crab didn't taste like petroleum this time. Seafood tasted fresh for the most of it. Spring roll had mushy fillings. Chicken kebab was hard to chew and not freshly made. Our server was polite and pleasant. He cleaned up plates and refilled water. But their chatters were a bit too loud. They do their bests to keep dining area clean and organized. However, the place was run down and outdated, with dirty carpet, aging and unappealing amenities. Restroom clean but old. Exterior environment was worse, dilapidated with broken tree retaining wall and cracked cement. If they renovate, keep food fresh and price reasonable, this place has so much potential.

My friends had their son's red egg and ginger party here, in the back private party room. Great for large groups. The buffet was well stocked, kept clean and refreshed often. For the 3 hours we were there, I didn't see any items that ran out of were not hot/warm. The servers were attentive to our drink orders and clearing out our plates and tables. Normally I am not a big fan of buffets, but my strategy was not to load up on carbs, but to taste small portions of things and if I liked it, I would go back for more. My favorites were the custard bao, caramelized little bananas, the sashimi, and battered shrimp. I finished with the soft serve on a cone. I did not try everything, but was selective in my choices. Would I come back on my own if it was an event? Most likely not, because I don't usually go to buffets. But this one was not bad. The people all seemed very nice, so if you do like buffets and want to eat decent food, give this one a try and let me know what you liked.

It has been awhile since I went to Hokkaido Buffet at 3830 Stevens Creek Blvd, San Jose, CA 95117. I have gone during lunch and dinner and have always found the buffet to be excellent. Today is the first day of 2024, so I went to lunch at Hokkaido and found that they were on their "A" Game. Since it was a holiday, the price was a bit higher. I was greeted by a very nice, polite hostess, who helped me locate a table of my choosing. The bus person was very polite and attentive to my drink and dirty plates. Everyone I saw was dressed professionally. Now to the buffet-what a sight to see! I was primarily interested in the Sushi table-I was not disappointed. Everything I tried was fresh and delicious. The main tables had dim sum, fresh fruit, beef ribs, egg rolls, soup, various fish, and the list goes on and on. The ambiance is very nice and clean. During my visit the restaurant was pretty full with large families. I noted some of the poorer reviews made reference to the price of the buffet. To me, the price is fine for what your getting-a quality buffet that is constantly monitored by the chef and cleaned by employees. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this buffet! Make sure you're hungry and save room for desserts and ice cream.

My girlfriend and I ordered five dishes: BBQ pork fried rice, BBQ pork chow fun, orange chicken, salt and pepper chicken wings, and green beans with garlic sauce. Every dish was packed with flavor, and nothing felt like an afterthought. The salt and pepper chicken wings absolutely lived up to the hype--super crispy, well-seasoned, and easily our favorite. Between the generous portions, reasonable prices, and consistently delicious food, this place is an easy recommendation. We'll definitely be back!

On my way back from Central Coast CA, I popped in an hour before closing on a Thursday night. Evergreen Panda was busy with customers and it looked like it would be a long wait, I was wrong. I ordered the salt and pepper wings togo, of course and my meal came out within 15 minutes. As soon as I got in my car and popped the top on the Togo box, my entire car was enveloped with the smell of onion, garlic, pepper, chicken and jalapeños. That first bite was, HOT, CRISPY, JUICY and FLAVORFUL. I would be remiss if I told you these were the best salt and pepper chicken wings I've had. Evergreen panda fills the container to the top and doesn't skimp. I even had leftovers for the next day and threw them in the air fryer to get them crisp again. Price point is great too.

It had a great mala flavor with a subtle numbing sensation, and the peanuts added a nice crunch and texture to the dish. The Tianjin Eggplant was simple but delicious, with flavorful pork that paired really well with the soft eggplant. Overall, the food here is comforting and satisfying. We walked in right at opening to a completely empty dining room. Instead of leaving, we browsed the menu and ordered XLB, pot stickers, jelly fish, and pea sprouts (my personal fav) so glad we didn't leave! The XLB are a nice size, with each precious dumpling cradled in its own foil wrapper for maximum soup retention. The potstickers were full of flavor, packed with protein, delicately wrapped, and had the crispiest, golden bottoms! Jelly fish was fresh and the pea sprouts were a hit! The poor owner answering the phones made sure (in all languages) to inform folks calling in that there were a different May Flower than the other place-felt terrible for her but also understood the importance of differentiating right up front. I can only imagine the number of misorders they have probably dealt with. By the time we were done, the dining room was filled with a mix of what seemed like regulars, locals, large groups of families, small groups of friends... this feels like we stumbled upon a tiny hole in the wall restaurant where everyone who has been before just knows the quality and taste they are going to be getting! This is one of the handful of American Chinese restaurants that stood the test of time. As is typical of these places, there was an old lady manning the counter and also acting as the server. And as is typical of these places, there was table at the end where they were prepping the fruits and veggies. It's truly remarkable how they are all similar in these ways! We got a couple of dishes and they came out at lightning speed. * Chowmein-3/5- delicious with lots of umami flavor but shockingly greasy. I mean I am used to oily noodles but this one exceeded some limits. *crispy salt and pepper eggplant-3/5- I had a stellar version of this dish at another restaurant in Sunnyvale and was stoked when I saw this on the menu here. Unfortunately it was a poor representation of the dish I loved there. The batter was too much and the dish felt heavy. The hot oil or sauce they had felt old and extremely vinegary as well, I would recommend avoiding it.
