I work nearby-ish and have been wanting to try Homegrown for a while. I try to stay away from heavy, carby meals but was starving and needed some sustenance. They do have gluten-free bread, which I have zero gluten allergy or sensitivity, but I do feel less bloaty when I eat GF. So there. I got half a grilled cheese with tomato jam. It was the perfect size for me. I also got a side of baby greens ($4), but was too full to eat it. Anyway, the grilled cheese on gluten free bread was okay. Nothing to write home about. I did enjoy the garlic aioli, but feel like they need to put more on there for the flavor to stand out. The cheese was mild and the tomato jam was... not that tomato-y, which I was happy about because I hate tomatoes. LOL - don't ask why I got something w/tomatoes if I hate them. But overall, this sandwich was okay. On gluten-free bread, maybe not so much, but I'm glad I chose that. The place is clean and simple. I liked that. Very eco-friendly. I arrived around 11:30a and it wasn't busy at all. I didn't have to wait in any kind of line, which was a bonus. Friendly staff. Quick service. Will be back again. I had a horrible experience with customer service. The other day I placed an online order using their website, I viewed the list of stores I could place an order with and selected the first one that popped up because said it was the closest to me. I enjoy their website because I'm usually in a rush at lunch for work and it lets you know the time of pick up when your food will be ready. So I made my way two blocks over to the store I had placed my order at many times before and waited to hear my name be called. 20-30 mins go by and the lady who was calling out orders was kind enough to ask me what my name was so she could help me search for my order. I told her and she looked up my name and didn't see my name in the system. I looked back at my email and realised I had placed an order at the wrong location. So I was in a rush and had to place another order at the current location I was at and they got me the food quickly and let me know if I called I could get a refund for the order I placed by accident at the wrong location. So today I called to get a refund so I wasn't spending $31 on one bowl. They let me know that they do not refund for ordering at the wrong store by mistake because the food was made. They said I would have had to realise it that day and called. But I wouldn't have known I made that mistake until after the food was made regardless because I always show up at the time it says the food was prepared so I could quickly grab and go back to my job. So with that logic, no matter what they wouldn't give me a refund because I would have had to realise my mistake before I was standing in the store to grab my food. The customer service person was rude towards the end and when he could hear the frustration in my voice at the end he hung up on me without saying anything. This was a lose lose situation for me and upsetting because I've been a loyal customer at the downtown location for years. I wish they were more understanding and had a better refund policy. So I haven't tried any of the sandwiches yet, I can only comment on the roasted apple non-fat Greek yogurt+granola that I just finished eating. It was perfect for my breakfast, not too heavy. Love that it came with roasted apple instead of just plain hard apples, and the granola is hearty unlike the cheapy kind of granola that comes with store bought yogurt. I have to say that I eat at this place for breakfast almost every day I am working in Seattle. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing and staff is incredibly friendly. I place the order online and have it ready for me by the time I walk by the restaurant. If you haven't tried them for breakfast, I must say that you should, their bacon egg sandwich is life changing, the garlic aioli sauce just makes it right with the crunchiness of the bacon and the tenderness of the egg. Because, if shelling out $17 (including tax and tip) for a sandwich in the name of organic, locally sourced, and other buzzwords makes you feel good, this is your place. Remember, they're not a mom and pop shop, they're a chain (now also in Cali). Another big miss is the lack of nutrition information on their menu. I've asked them a couple times, and they said it's coming, but as of this writing, nada. For a shop that apparently promotes healthy eating, this is a glaring problem. Also, try ordering something on their website. If you can do it in less than 20 minutes, you can feel good about yourself for being more efficient than anyone else in your workplace. This is one of the modern, sustainable, all-natural sandwich shop chain in Seattle. Though the food is fresh and flavorful, the quantity is small and prices are high, which makes it a not-so-appealing-option for lunch. Contrary to its address, it is located on the corner of 2nd and marion, right by the escalators to the Wells Fargo tower. The shop has a clean and fresh look to it with an open kitchen and large windows. They have a couple of tables and bar style seating around the glass wall, but it gets full during lunch hours. The food is really good and very flavorful. Their garlic aioli is excellent, and goes well in almost any sandwich. The veggies are fresh. However, the sandwich itself is pretty small, and not all that filling. The meat/veggies in the sandwich are meager, and not heaped like many other places. The other downside is the price, around $12 for a whole sandwich (incl tax and tip). This might be the norm for a large sandwich elsewhere, but here, it seems too overpriced. They also have quinoa bowls, but charge extra for meat/tofu, bringing it to $16. Overall, it is a good option if you're looking for organic/sustainable options. I've been to the new Homegrown location a couple of times and think I'm done now. I used to love the Fremont location when it first opened, but I feel like the food has gotten more bland as they've grown into a chain. Sandwiches used to come with amazing homemade slaw or homemade chips. No more. Now you just get a sandwich. I don't want to pay $12 for just a rather unsatisfying hummus sandwich. Both times I've gone, I've gone early (11:30ish) to avoid the crazy line. However, the system is so inefficient that, even if there's not a line, you will wait quite awhile for your sandwich. There's lots of open space, but the sandwich making station is tiny, so only a couple of workers can assemble orders at once. Just seems like poor planning and maybe a misunderstanding of what they were getting into with the downtown lunch scene. Also, putting my sandwich in a paper bag every time?
