Shrimp and Shrimp & Grits
Evora H.

This is a very popular breakfast spot the locals flock to. Once you taste the food you immediately understand why everything is layered with flavor. It's BYOB in true Chicago fashion. The service is warm friendly and efficient! The place is decorated with flowers all over. Lots of food my order of shrimp and grits with a smoked bacon cheese sauce was enough to feed a family of four! It was delicious!

I stopped by here on 2/11/26 with a couple of friends and had a great experience. I decided let me take my partner. Great choice. We were seated immediately though they had multiple folks waiting. Sandra was our server. She was friendly, professional and on point. We both ordered the build your own omelette. Food was delicious, seasoned, just right. Superb music playing. The bus guys were good to with giving us water and removing unwanted plates, waste from table. Definitely will be back!!! Great job guys.

Amazing!!!! Hard to find parking but it does not matter once you get inside. The food is amazing! I had the french toast sampler and could have shared with atleast 2 people. The menu has options for everyone. Our server Kat was so sweet and kind. Very busy even on a Wednesday but we did not have to wait for a table. I am generally not about non-canned cornbeef hash (home made) but Honeybear's was so delicious! The corned beef was so tender. Served with potatoes, green peppers and onions. I cant wait to visit again.

Tons of social media buzz brought us out-of-towners to Honeybear Cafe on a long weekend trip through Chicago! Street parking available on nearby and adjacent streets. The space itself is lively, bright, and welcoming...perfectly decorated for spring with pastels, bunnies, and flowers. You can't help but be happy inside here, even as it poured rain outside :) Our server was INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful, as the menu is GIGANTIC. The place was packed with people, but service kept up and food arrived efficiently! Now, we just suffered from simply ordering the wrong menu items, unfortunately! The Biscuits and Gravy was a decent portion, but the biscuit was dry and bready, without enough gravy to keep it going. I also can't stand when restaurants call a dish a "Skillet" and then don't serve it in a skillet...just call it a bowl. The Sloppy Skillet also missed the mark, with just blah ingredients. But the French Toast and Waffles that passed our table looked EXCELLENT and the Breakfast Quesadillas were larger than their plate!! Given the myriad of breakfast places in Chicago, we won't be rushing to return, but if you are into fancy French Toast or HUGE servings, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.

Tried this place for brunch on a weekday and it was packed! Thankfully, the host was quite efficient and texted us that our table was ready after a short wait. Menu is pretty extensive leaning towards breakfast although they also have sandwiches. I ordered their bayou dish and my husband had their biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. The food came out really quickly and the portions are huge! I enjoyed my bayou dish with the andouille sausage and hash browns (they know how to make them) and pancakes. I enjoyed the pancakes as well as they are more on the fluffy side and not thick/dense. The biscuit and grits are what you would expect but I especially liked the bacon (thick). Nice ambiance, lots of friendly servers and they even give you two small pieces of what looks like cheesecake. Price wise, a bit on the higher end but for the portion sizes, well worth it. Ample street parking available. Overall, a good recommendation from the Yelp community which I would also concur.

What is left to say about Honeybear? This is THE Chicago brunch spot. The decor is always over the top. The portions are enormous (truly, we get at least 3-4 meals out of each entree), service is top tier, and the food is great. Prices are reasonable considering you'll be eating the leftovers for three days. If you're going on a weekend, come at opening, make a reservation or be prepared to wait.

Does this place even need the review?! Here I am 3 days later eating my breakfast! It is soooooo worth the hype if you order the right stuff! The service is burn and turn baby!!!! Friendly and great suggestions by our server. Th only down side is this place is packeeed to the brim but that's expected with the type of food they offer. I suggest the 2.0 French toast flight - churro French toast had me in a choke hold. You don't even need syrup! The breakfast steak quesadilla was bigger than my head with the fluffiest eggs inside..... so delicious and not overly salted like most breakfast places! Also the strawberry shortcake pancakes were like I was in candy land!!!! Hands down awesome breakfast and brunch spot. Cute art all over the restaurant. In and out just how we like it! And great music playing on the radio!

Service quick, accurate, knowledgeable, gave good advice and went the extra mile. It is a place you go for special occasion because top end of cost for breakfast food, but delicious and large portions, lots of leftovers! I wish I could buy the sugar waffles somewhere on their own, delicious I had question about parking and they asked 3 people to be accurate and make sure I didn't get charged for wrong info.

10/10 highly recommend! This place is so cute and the food is so good! I love a good spot where the food looks and tastes good. The service was pretty good, everyone was friendly. Definitely recommend making reservations because walk up waiting is a long time. I heard them telling people walk up was an hour + wait! We had a reservation and just had to wait a few minutes for our table! No outside seating so be prepared to wait in the cold.

Came back for a BYO scramble and the pistachio pancake special and again 5/5!! The pistachio pancakes were special... like amazing! This place rocks. That's all.

Great service and solid brunch spot! We didn't have a reservation, but they make it super easy to reserve online. We came for brunch during typical working hours and it was fairly busy, but we didn't have to wait at all--got seated for two as soon as we walked in. I tried the Leo's chix and bacon waffle with hash browns, and all the flavors complemented each other really well. My friend ordered one of their omelettes and had zero complaints. Parking was easy on the street, which is always a win. Ciara was super friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to us despite how busy the place was. If I'm coming back on a weekend, I'd definitely make a reservation ahead of time. Also, their Valentine's Day decorations were really cute and added a nice touch to the vibe. Would happily come back again!

Very popular spot and we went on a Monday. Prompt kind service and massive portions. We did the 2x2x2 and upgraded our pancakes and was plenty for 2 people. They have pancake an French toast flights! Cute inside as well. Fun spot to check out!

This is such a cute spot. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff is very nice. Our server Jenn was promt and very knowledgeable. She started us out with water and some cheesecake bites then asked what we wanted to drink. Only one drink and it was pineapple juice. When asked, she offered plenty of ideas from the menu. We decided to go with a Build Your Own Skillet with smoked honey bacon, country ham, pork sausage and added American and Swiss cheese and pancakes on the side, order of sausage links and pineapple juice, Nick's More S'mored with a side of hashbrowns and my order was The Wildcat skillet with eggs over easy and French Toast. Even though I went with the OG French Toast, they do offer so many other flavors, pancakes as well. It was pretty neat that they lit the marshmallow on fire. Nice show! Shortly after we received a small dish of sweet cream with a teddy graham (which my some stole). We all enjoyed our meals as they were super tasty. The flavors in The Wildcat skillet enhance each other very well. Before we left, Jennifer offered us an coffee to go. We accepted.

My son and his girlfriend have been there many times, and insisted we get the whipped ricotta appetizer and kale salad. Both of these items were top notch, as were the cocktails and we enjoyed. The pasta bolognese that the ladies ordered was delicious. My son had the burger and fries, and it was fine, just not very special. I ordered the "half" chicken, thinking as a bird themed restaurant, the only poultry entree would be a star, but that was not the case. A small thigh and half of a breast was their interpretation of a half chicken, and this was noted on the menu, but the portion was disappointing. The dish was supposed to to be accompanied by polenta with trumpet mushrooms, but two paltry slices of mushroom with a small smear of polenta completed the dish which "artfully" only occupied the left half of the plate, leaving the rest of the plate bare. Small portions aside, the dish was overly salty, to the point I had dry mouth the rest of the night, and the chicken was overcooked. The taste was fine, and the little bit of polenta added enough moisture to make the dish work. The worst thing was the incredibly dull dinner knife that couldn't cut through the mushroom, let alone the chicken, causing me to apply the stab and pull/tear method to get bite sized pieces. Everything thing else was superb. I would go back for the cocktails and appetizers, perhaps grazing the appetizers and a salad as a dinner. The pastas all looked terrific, but I will probably steer clear of the four mains on the menu, as they seem to be the least inspired items to order.

Let me start off by saying this was not a business I would…read morehave thought of going to because I don't just do salads as a meal unless it is a big giant taco salad, but for a work meeting, this was the place that lunch was ordered from. I got the Chicken Avocado Ranch for my selection (Antibiotic-free blackened chicken, avocado, pickled onions, apples, tortilla chips, white rice, chopped romaine, seed oil-free green goddess ranch) and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. As I was home on the Friday after the Xmas Day celebration, hungry, didn't want to cook/heat anything up, I decided to order this salad for dinner through Grubhub. While I was placing the order, I decided to try the Fish Taco for the next day's lunch (Antibiotic-free miso glazed salmon, avocado, shredded cabbage, cilantro, tortilla chips, herbed quinoa, spring mix). This bowl comes with a sweetgreen hot sauce & lime cilantro jalapeño vinaigrette, but I opted to switch that out for the Green Goddess Ranch and the Miso Sesame Ginger. I loved the fact that I would add or not include certain items. For example, I love goat cheese, so I add that to both bowls and it was delish. Delivery was pretty smooth, with the driver coming up to our floor to drop everything off. Both bowls looked visually pleasing and the overall taste was pretty good. The flavors were nice and there was a freshness to both bowls, even the Fish Taco one on the next day. FYI the Fish Taco bowl can only be ordered online, not ordered in the store...not sure why, but since I will not be going to the store, I am good with that. You also have the option to order a slice of bread with each bowl and that was nice. Next time I will see if I can get a second slice. Total cost for the two bowls, with some add-ons and service fee and tip was about $58. I will say it will be cheaper to go to the store and pick it up yourself, but I will pay to have stuff delivered to me for peace of mind. They do have an app for placing orders, but I will stick with Grubhub because that is free for me through Amazon. I realize sweetgreen has a mission statement about eating healthy, lowering their carbon footprint, a commitment to animal welfare, but before I knew any of that, I still would say the bowls were pretty good. Not that I crave salads or bowls that often, but if I do, this will be the first place I order from.

The burger was juicy and the bun was soft; didn't feel like I had to unhinge my jaw just to get a bite like with some other burgers. The toppings for the burger paired harmoniously with the patties, with the pickles adding texture and bite. The fries paired with the burger were honestly whatever, but the spicy aoli paired with it elevated eating the fries. We also got an elote app to share. I did enjoy the cheese and corn and how warm and melty they were, but I think it could've gone without the avocado. The mac and cheese though, now that was absolutely delicious. It was gooey and soft, with the breadcrumbs and bacon adding texture and smokiness. The drinks I got, the sylvan and green eyes, were a little strong for me (I prefer sweeter), but nonetheless excellently mixed. If you like strong, classic flavors, these are for you.

My husband got the burger with fried onions and I got some Bao because those also looked delicious and were a popular menu item. Honestly the 3 stars are only that high because of the service. Our server was friendly and attentive + the food came out hot and quick. Unfortunately, the food was pretty disappointing. The burger was swimming in a puddle of grease and just picking it up made your hands greasy + was dripping grease. The fries that came with it were floppy, soggy, and sad...but at least warm? I personally wouldn't order this again. The Bao were better, but small for the price and honestly were just okay? It was nice they gave you sauces you could add, but I found the Bao's to already have enough sauce so I didn't need them. Overall I left feeling confused and disappointed. Both of them hit but I just have to say something extra about these cheese curds. I've had a lot of fried cheese curds in Chicago and they all just tasted and even looked like mozzarella bits. A big disappointment. But these are so different. They are unique in flavor and the tempura batter is just right. They are definitely a head above the rest. These right here are the gold standard of cheese curds in my book. The beet salad was incredibly refreshing accompanied by a yogurt sauce and pepita seeds which gave it a great added texture and flavor. For my main I decided on their fan favorite Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich and after the first bite I knew exactly why it was a fan favorite. A generous portion of breaded chicken breast fried to a perfect crisp! I'm so glad this place exists! Farm Bar I definitely a favorite of mine. Amazing fresh food served with great service...10/10
