I was really hoping this was going to be great spot as seen on IG. Reservations: A must Parking: A challenge. Portions: Very large for one person so think twice about sharing and ask questions. Service : Jenn was so personable, patient, attentive and just great! Wait time: barely more than 15 mins or so before our plates landed on the table.. it was a packed house too! Complimentary cheesecake bites... bonus!!! Fee to use a card: Not a fan. Drinks: Earl grey tea and Cookie Biscoff latte.. both were truly amazing! Strawberry French Toast, linked turkey sausage and over medium eggs - my mom said the FT were so light and moist..odd but her words.. she devoured all of it. She loved the turkey sausage. Me - Sugar & Spice Waffle Sammie .. yep I just knew a twist on my favorite breakfast meal chicken n waffles was going to be slammin.. my tummy didn't agree AT ALL! First thing, I asked about the eggs being real cracked scrambled eggs.. they weren't. My potatoes were cooked too long and not warm. I think they're freezer cooked as well. The waffles were definitely sugary .. in a good way. The actual star.. the chicken.. it was in the mid, just ok.
They are really efficient in this place from making reservations to check in to ordering to table service. Everything is on point. The teas options are so good but a little sad they don't have the options in stock for purchase. The place inside is so lively and beautiful. The vibes are a whole scene by itself. Ashlyn was so pleased and helpful. Such an amazing spirit. A variety of food options. They don't sell alcoholic beverages but they they are a breakfast brunch spot. I can't wait to go back.
Omg everything we ate was phenomenal! We had a 2.0 flight of French toast, a bacado benny, catfish and grits, a French toast flight 1.0, and kids pancakes. Every single thing was beyond delicious. Service was great and the food came out so quickly.
Honestly I see why this place gets so much hype, it is REALLY good. I wish I had more of a sweet tooth when I came because they had so many dessert breakfast options I couldnt pick any so I picked none :(. I did order this coconut latte (pictured) and it wasnt sweet but it was still very very good. I also ordered a skillet w chorizo and I could not finish it but it was STILL good the next day. If you were hesitant about going or the long line scared you, go anyway! the wait is not bad at all and the vibes inside are amazing! AND the food is good!
Honeybear Cafe was a great recommendation from a friend! I would highly suggest making a reservation for the way could be long. We had a hour and fifteen min wait and was seated around 45-50 min. Not bad for us to be walk-INS. We so received the option to sit on the patio which was great. They staff was very friendly and the food came out very quickly! The portion sizes are LARGE! You will for sure leave with left overs! Everything was well seasoned and tasted amazing! This restaurant was on of our favorites on this trip!
We found Honeybear Cafe from TikTok reviews and it definitely lived up to the hype. Everything was amazing from the food to the service. Our server Amy was so friendly and made sure we were happy with everything the entire time. We had a reservation and only waited about 5 minutes to be seated. The pancake flight was a highlight, and the fried catfish and grits with shrimp added were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Portions were huge, which worked out because we wanted to try a little of everything. Food presentation and taste were easily a 10/10. Another great experience during our first trip to Chicago.
Amazing!!!! Hard to find parking but it does not matter once you get inside. The food is amazing! I had the french toast sampler and could have shared with atleast 2 people. The menu has options for everyone. Our server Kat was so sweet and kind. Very busy even on a Wednesday but we did not have to wait for a table. I am generally not about non-canned cornbeef hash (home made) but Honeybear's was so delicious! The corned beef was so tender. Served with potatoes, green peppers and onions. I cant wait to visit again.
The atmosphere is cozy and happy. The servers were beyond nice and the food is amazing and portions are huge

Tons of social media buzz brought us out-of-towners to Honeybear Cafe on a long weekend trip through Chicago! Street parking available on nearby and adjacent streets. The space itself is lively, bright, and welcoming...perfectly decorated for spring with pastels, bunnies, and flowers. You can't help but be happy inside here, even as it poured rain outside :) Our server was INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful, as the menu is GIGANTIC. The place was packed with people, but service kept up and food arrived efficiently! Now, we just suffered from simply ordering the wrong menu items, unfortunately! The Biscuits and Gravy was a decent portion, but the biscuit was dry and bready, without enough gravy to keep it going. I also can't stand when restaurants call a dish a "Skillet" and then don't serve it in a skillet...just call it a bowl. The Sloppy Skillet also missed the mark, with just blah ingredients. But the French Toast and Waffles that passed our table looked EXCELLENT and the Breakfast Quesadillas were larger than their plate!! Given the myriad of breakfast places in Chicago, we won't be rushing to return, but if you are into fancy French Toast or HUGE servings, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.
Tried this place for brunch on a weekday and it was packed! Thankfully, the host was quite efficient and texted us that our table was ready after a short wait. Menu is pretty extensive leaning towards breakfast although they also have sandwiches. I ordered their bayou dish and my husband had their biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. The food came out really quickly and the portions are huge! I enjoyed my bayou dish with the andouille sausage and hash browns (they know how to make them) and pancakes. I enjoyed the pancakes as well as they are more on the fluffy side and not thick/dense. The biscuit and grits are what you would expect but I especially liked the bacon (thick). Nice ambiance, lots of friendly servers and they even give you two small pieces of what looks like cheesecake. Price wise, a bit on the higher end but for the portion sizes, well worth it. Ample street parking available. Overall, a good recommendation from the Yelp community which I would also concur.
What is left to say about Honeybear? This is THE Chicago brunch spot. The decor is always over the top. The portions are enormous (truly, we get at least 3-4 meals out of each entree), service is top tier, and the food is great. Prices are reasonable considering you'll be eating the leftovers for three days. If you're going on a weekend, come at opening, make a reservation or be prepared to wait.
Came at 8:30 Sunday and no wait. Seems to get crowded towards 9-10. But I will say- I thought it would be overhyped and it's well worth the hype. For a busy restaurant the food comes fast, portions big, servers are so nice, and Very kid friendly. 10/10 would come again

This brunch spot was so good! It's a little north of the city, so plan accordingly for travel. We made a reservation in advance, though there was still a short wait because they're very busy. It was definitely worth it. They are BYOB, which is great if you want mimosas or other brunch drinks. Kids under 12 eat free with the purchase of an adult meal, and the menu is extensive with plenty of options. Our server was so polite and upbeat--it really made the experience even better. Highly recommend taking the time to visit! read more
The star of the show was our server, Dennis! He was amazing, responsive, and looked out for us the whole way through. Shout out to him! My family and I had a feast and I must say, everything was AMAZING! The french toast trio was really good. My favorite was the strawberry & cream. The tres leches french toast was SUPERB! The cajun cheesesteak biscuit was out of this world. The biscuit was light with a decent crisp. Everything was flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The corned beef hash was really delightful and I enjoyed every bite of it. The mac & cheese was good, but it just needed some more salt and pepper. The consistency was amazing and cheeses were perfect! It had the best cheese pull. (Try it with bacon in the mac & cheese) As far as the ambiance goes, the decor is nice. However, this place has gained so much traction lately that it's always packed. Even if you do make a reservation, be prepared to wait to be seated. The ceilings inside are very low, which makes you feel a little boxed in depending on where you're sitting. Hopefully they add a second floor or another Chicago location. Besides that, we had a great time. Other servers checked on us and offered to take our plates and give us coffee, which was really sweet. 10 out of 10, would definitely recommend. read more
FIVE STARS. This might be the best restaurant I visited on this trip to Chicago. I came on a Monday afternoon and the place was packed. Luckily, we made reservations. Josh was our server, and he was incredible and super friendly. This place is BYOB, so we brought out champagne and ordered the juice flight. The food...everything was a 10! And portions are huge!! That cheesesteak biscuit was such a unique combo of flavors and the biscuit itself was the star. Soft, but didnt crumble with the filling. And i got strawberry crunch pancakes for a sweetness to balance the salty. 10!!!! We also tried the banana crunch pancakes. 10! Now, this place was about the furthest we had to uber, since staying downtown. But, totally worth the 20-25 min ride!!! Make reservations! read more
Yes, yes, yes! This place is all the hype and more! Located on the north side of Chicago, the Honeybear cafe is the place to be for a decadent breakfast, brunch experience. There is always a wait but it's worth it. Inside there is a buzz, very active, busy, and loud but the staff doesn't miss a beat. When seated you get treated to a mini cheesecake bite to get you settled in. The menu is extensive, I was overwhelmed but luckily there are lots of pictures on Yelp to help decide. The food is very delicious and the sweet offerings are rich. We got Cajun Benedict and the churro French toast and my mouth is still watering thinking about how much I enjoyed it. I almost don't want to write a review. This place is busy enough..... So far, this was the best breakfast I have ever had from a restaurant. The BEST! It's a smaller place, you'd definitely have to wait if you don't make a reservation.. but it'll be worth whatever waiting you'd have to do. read more
Honeybear Cafe is obviously that girlllll because they had people waiting outside for hours to get a table. Lucky for us, I made a reservation for a Friday at 12pm and had no issues when we arrived. There's not much parking in the area but we ubered from downtown (20 min drive). The spot is BYOB and although I don't drink, I miss spots like this. The cafe was packed but we weren't stacked on top of each other. The decor was cute and it was quite clean in there despite how busy they were. Our waitress was busy but she was attentive and got us all we needed. I got the veggie breakfast sandwich and the portion was large. What really impressed me was the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Please bring back cafes like this for brunch and not the grass wall with $40 French toasts. read more

We tried the iconic French toast flight, which looked impressive, but was honestly a bit bland despite all the toppings. The avocado toast came loaded with veggies, which was nice, but it was also underwhelming in flavor. On the plus side, it came with a fruit cup. Overall, the food was just in taste with impeccable presentation,. The space was extremely packed and busy, and the service was adequate, but nothing special. read more

Is it a spot that's worth the hype me and two of my friends arrived at the golden hour because we didn't have to wait at all. First things first super cute ambience inside tons of picture worthy very much a dopamine decorated brunch spot!!! One of the great things about honey bear is that is BYOB because often you can spend all your money on drinks, but here you can bring them so it helps cut down on the price . Now let's get to the food. What didn't we order? We had the steak and eggs, the French toast, flight apple pie pancakes, Santa Fe skillet, and some fruit to top it off just to be a little healthy. Everything was delicious, but the pancakes were the highlight of the show. They were fluffy. They were delicious and the apple topping made it come together like a hug from your grandma. Love the food we had there. It was ALOT of food to the point we could've shared one entree. What I didn't like was that I made a reservation and still had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. The French toast was very good. The skirt steak on the breakfast sandwich I got was very salty to me. Maybe if eating the entire sandwich together it would've balanced out but I tasted it by itself and it was too much for me. And I loved the Valentine's Day decorations read more

Ambiance goals, bathroom woes, and sugar highs -- here's the scoop! I'm glad I had the foresight to make a reservation a week in advance because even on a Monday at 1 PM, this place had a wait. That should tell you something! Let's start with the ambiance: 10/10. The floral touches and quirky, kitschy artwork made it feel like brunching inside a Pinterest board. Super cute and cozy without trying too hard. Now, the ladies' room... whew. Gotta knock some points here. While it was clean, it's giving 2/10. Definitely overdue for a glow-up. It's like the vibes stop at the restroom door. The menu is a beast -- like, dangerously close to Cheesecake Factory-level big. Everything sounded so good I almost needed a game show lifeline to decide. IMO, it's a tad too big, but hey, variety is the spice of life. I started with the tiramisu marshmallow latte -- a little too sweet for me, but still really tasty. Dessert in a cup, if that's your thing! We ordered the Paddy & Achilles skillets, upgraded to the Rogers Park Extreme, plus the tres leches French toast. Both skillets were solid, but the French toast upgrade stole my heart. The tres leches version was too sweet for me (sweet theme here, huh?) but my husband devoured it, so clearly it's a hit if you've got a sweet tooth. Service was on the slower side, but they were busy, so I get it. That said, a couple hiccups: I asked for my eggs over medium and got sunny side up, and our tres leches French toast showed up as the regular version. I didn't bother sending the eggs back because I'm not into that kind of drama before 2 PM, but we did have to wait a while for the correct French toast redo. Final verdict: 3.5 out of 5 -- but since Yelp won't let me do a half star, I'm rounding down to 3 stars today. Would I come back? Probably, especially if they freshen up the bathroom and streamline the menu just a tad. read more

Heard so much about this place for a while. Finally went out for a birthday with a group of 5. Cierra our waitress was fantastic. Food was super yummy. The catfish jalapeño cheese and grits I will say had way too much cheese, even for an uber cheese lover like me. I'd say it would be way better with less cheese, could barely find the grits in the dish. Otherwise, everything was tasty. On a Saturday with a 1pm reservation, it was so crowded we still had to wait to be seated about 15 or so minutes. It's jumpin in there so book a resy. It's also BYOB so consider that if you want some libations for brunch. Overall, I'd recommend this restaurant for sure. We'll be back! read more

I put off going to Honeybear for a long time because I don't want to wait in line for breakfast, like, ever. And I'm always suspicious of super trendy places. Pro-tip: Go shortly after opening on a weekday. All of the goodness, none of the crowds. In a quest to make a reasonably healthy choice, I had the avocado toast with poached eggs. How good was it? So good that I was not jealous of the waffles and French toast at my table. But don't order it if you don't love arugula. I ordered mine with a side of fruit that I only realized hours later never came. The eggs were poached very well, which made me very happy indeed. Raves for the Nutella strawberry waffle. And the French toast trio was insane. The three of us could have split only that and still had leftovers. I tasted the cookie butter banana one and it was glorious. Rich and sweet, but glorious. A couple of bites would be enough. As a table we ordered sides of sausage and bacon because why not-- we're in this deep. The sausage was peppery and delicious. I did not try one of the thick slabs of bacon in front of me, but the smell reminded me of a farm I visited as a child where they smoked hams. This was not regular bacon. This was bacon of the gods. And I believe it was the only thing at our table that was completely consumed. The space was clean and cute, and they clearly commit to the seasonal decor. I'll be tempted to come back in the fall for a big dollop of autumnal color and some of those apple butter pancakes. But never on a weekend and never more than an hour after they open. Never. Even with forgetting to give me my fresh fruit, the service was fast and friendly. The coffee refills kept coming. Again, this is on a weekday before 8am. Just go try for yourself. I got lucky to not have to wait long but i do believe reservations is the best way for no wait. Staff was really nice and our waitress was amazing! I cant wait to go back! Great charming breakfast spot with so many choices, many unique and decadent taste combos. While we were waiting for our friends to arrive, the waitress brought complimentary cheesecake bites to our table and told us about some of the delightful coffee concoctions (Honey Coconut, Warm apple Pie lattes, etc). It took us a long time to make our food selections because the menu was huge and looking around us, every dish looked amazing and huge. Our waitress was great and explained the portion sizes and side options. Corned beef hash with eggs, cheesy grits, pancakes; Chicken fried chicken skillets with potatoes, eggs, cheese, served with chocolate chip pancakes, and; French toast flight - churro, crème brûlée and something else that was stuffed and delicious. Food was very delicious, the portions were large which made the prices very fair! I really enjoyed the variety of dishes they had to offer. Honeybear had got omelettes, skillets, pancakes, crepes, waffles, Benedict's -- you name it! Every we tried was very tasty. Docking a star because the wait was crazyyyy. We came here on a Thursday morning and waited and 1hr 10min to be seated. So just beware of the waits, and be ready to wait as much as they tell you or even longer (which was our case). Service quick, accurate, knowledgeable, gave good advice and went the extra mile. It is a place you go for special occasion because top end of cost for breakfast food, but delicious and large portions, lots of leftovers! I wish I could buy the sugar waffles somewhere on their own, delicious I had question about parking and they asked 3 people to be accurate and make sure I didn't get charged for wrong info. read more
My daughter has been asking to go to Honey Bear for about a year. We've been home to visit a few times, but didn't have the time to get over there or couldn't get q reservation. And I'm not going without a reservation. I ended up getting a reservation on a Saturday morning, about an hr after our flight landed. We went straight for MDW to Honey Bear. When we arrived, there were at least 20 people waiting outside. I heard the guy telling people the wait was 1.5 to 2 hrs. We had to wait about 10-15 mins past our res time for our table. Thank goodness we had a decent sized table, because we ordered a lot. LOL We ordered pancakes, French toast, eggs and steak plate/bowl. The one thing you can't complain about is the amount of food they give you. My daughter loved her steak/potatoes bowl and her strawberry French toast. My French toast was good, but tje pancakes were better. They fixed my eggs to perfection, which typically doesn't happen. Our server was really nice as well. She checked on us just enough. But was very busy with all her tables. We're definitely going back. I'm getting a bowl probably a pancake next time! Do keep in mind, this is a BYOB. You can get juice, but no mimosas, or anything else. it's not a huge restaurant, but they have packed as many tables in there as they can. LOL read more
Great little find in Rogers Park. Honeybear Cafe radiates positive vibes... from the employees who were all smiling and kind, to the positive messages adorning the walls. What a delightful place to start the day. As for the food. Wow. I've never seen a French Toast Flight so massive and beautifully presented., I dare you to eat it all! Actually, I don't. Share and save some for later. Everything tasted amazing, the coffee was steaming hot and frequently topped off (always a huge plus in a breakfast joint!) My husband ordered the California Crepe and devoured every delicious bite! I hope to return on a future trip to Chicagoland! read more
Considering I was here for about five seconds, it was way enough to create a lasting impression. I wandered in to grab a coffee and ordered a s'mores latte to go. I had NO idea what I was walking into. The latte was AMAZING. They literally had chocolate, Marshmallow and smores all over it, and then it usually comes with a smore on top. They didn't want me to miss the experience so packaged it out to go. So cute and thoughtful and way over the top! The ambiance here was so fun, just cool, eclectic decor, and they said they change it every month. It was "April showers" month :) It was quite crowded and such a mix of people. Some people looked like they were just chilling for work, seems like a cool place to hang. Also had some cute crafts and local sells as well! The staff was super kind, warm and welcoming! First time visiting this cute, quaint spot for brunch. We had no reservations, so we had to wait. It's worth the wait! One of the best brunches I've ever had. It's BYOB, so if you want to do mimosas and you didn't stop to bring the champagne, you can go across the street to the store. Family friendly atmosphere with a ginormous menu of options. They immediately serviced us with a cup of drip coffee and chocolates before giving a few minutes to read the variety of options. The Southwest omelette and Mexican quesadilla were huge and we could barely finish it. We were recommended to try the French toast as a side and it was a perfect pairing to go with the food and coffee. I'd recommend reserving a table online as it is very busy and can have a little bit of a wait. Definitely a must hit brunch spot in Chicago! read more

I tried the chilaquiles trio with steak and over-easy eggs, and the portions were huge--definitely tons of food. The steak and eggs were solid, but the chilaquiles themselves felt a bit Americanized, made with regular tortilla chips and only lightly coated in sauce. With how busy the place was, I expected a bit more flavor. For my next visit, I'd probably ask what their specialties are, because what I ordered was just okay. The vibe and crowd make me want to give it another try, but this particular dish didn't really impress read more

Finally made the trek up north to try this spot. I've heard so many good things and it is very good. I loved that the portions are big and very shareable with friends. My friend and I shared the Wildcat skillet and upgraded our side to the special French toast ($3.99). I think it's worth the upgrade. This was basically two entrees that we shared and felt very full. The eggs looked a bit small which I was surprised but I overall enjoyed the skillet. The potatoes were crispy and not cut too big. I don't like my potatoes to be too big. I need a good balance between the crispy skin and the potatoes. The wildcat skillet has a good combo of your veggies, meat, and carbs in here. The French toast was also delicious. These were a perfect combo to get the sweet and savory for breakfast. Definitely a great breakfast spot that isn't too pricey since their portions are big! read more
Highly recommend reservations if you go on the weekend. Parking is very scarce in the area. There's paid street parking and residential parking. The place is decorated very cute. It's a nice space but definitely is VERY busy, but the service did not lack. Kate was our waitress and she was great. I had the catfish and grits. I'm not a creamy grits type of person but the cheese in the grits made the grits amazing. I would have preferred if my catfish was on the side but I know for next time. The catfish and grits were a great combo. They give you more than enough food. I thought I was hungry until I wasn't able to finish my food. My friend and I also got the cookie banana French toast to share. The French toast had great flavor but I wish the toppings were throughout the French toast and just not on top. read more
I came in for brunch with my family Saturday morning and I'm glad we had a reservation because they were very busy with a wait. The interior was so cute with balloons and umbrellas on the ceiling, which I was told they change up depending on the season. All of the food passing by looked so good and they have unique things on the menu like different flights of foods or juices you can get. And the portions are huge! I got the Paddy's Skillet. The menu did say that the dish came with balsamic caramelized onion but I didn't realize it was also going to come with a balsamic drizzle over the dish, which I was not a fan of. Overall though the meat was tender and everyone's dishes looked amazing. read more

If you are in Chicago please just make the reservation and go! It's BYOB so stop and get some champagne for mimosa's. It was a hour wait but well deserving. The decor is nice that music is right and the service is great. Now the food ! Huge portions, everything is made to order and so delicious. They even brought us complimentary mini cheesecakes. The French toast flight is so good and you will not be able to eat it all but they give you plenty of to go trays. The fish is grits was so good and filling. Can wait to come back and try more because the menu is huge ! I do stress, make the reservation! read more
