Is it the best Chinese food place? No. But will they give you an obscene amount of food (especially if you order fried rice) that causes the structural integrity of the box to falter? Absolutely. Friendly staff will send you home with enough food for the weekend or enough for one amazing Friday stomach ache. It's tasty, it's generous, and it's a nice little spot that should be picked every time over the Panda Express across the street. Plus the egg rolls are pretty tasty, but I ate them before I wrote this review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also despite being tiny, you'll always see the place full of enthusiastic families.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Grab a mountain of food and enjoy.

If you are on a budget and don't mind reheating food for a second meal of the day. Well this location is for you because they stuff the plate full. Flavor it is good enough for the amount and pricing.

Holy moly guacamole. This place hooks it up With some massively generous portions. It hits the g spot and the flavors are for the most part on point. Another highlight is the awesome mgmt / owners. They're a friendly delight.

If you know me; you know that I love Chinese Food; Cantonese to be exact but I love all Chinese Food and my husband and I have been struggling to find a reliable good place. I'm doing this Yelp because I think that it's important to have current reviews; which is how I found this place. I had been going to another place in Costa Mesa but they changed management and just wasn't as good as it was before. A friend at work referred me to another place in Santa Ana but when I checked Yelp they had 3.5 stars and I found Hong Kong Express with 4 stars and decided to try them; and so far I'm glad I did! So I'm usually a "chef order" type of girl but this day I had a taste for the express buffet. I ordered half rice; half noodles, broccoli and beef, bbq pork and a side of orange chicken! For express it was really good with a good but not greasy taste. I decided to eat a portion of my order there because I was on lunch and the only thing that was a concern for me is that it wasn't as warm/hot as I like my food; which might've been because mine was off the top and not closer to the burners of the chafin dishes. My husband had some later that evening where he could heaten it up and he said he really enjoyed it! Let me back up to the beginning where I was greeted very politely upon entering the restaurant and I believe it was the owner or the manager; Julie, that assisted me and was very personable with me and all of her customers that walked in. As I previously stated everything was good but it appears that their orange chicken is a hit with pretty much every one; as atleast 10 ppl came in while I was eating and all ordered the orange chicken! I will definitely be returning to try more dishes!

Hong Kong Express has multiple locations across Southern California and serves take-out Chinese food. You can think of it as an elevated Panda Express with other dishes that you can't get there like BBQ pork. We ordered the 3-item combo (~$16) and like others have mentioned, the portions are huge! They put two entrees in the box and it barely held together. They put the third entree in a separate small container so it was a lot of food. Out of the entrees we ordered my favorites were the orange chicken and BBQ pork. Some other ones we ordered (beef and broccoli, teriyaki chicken) were okay. We were not fans of other ones (kung pao chicken, pepper chicken) because they were mainly veggies with not as much meat. I noticed that most of their entrees were chicken dishes and I would've liked to have seen more beef and pork dishes but it's probably more of a cost thing. Between the chow mein and the fried rice, I liked the former more. Overall the entrees were decent but I would've preferred more flavors in them. It's a local business and they were very friendly. The food was ready to go and we were in and out in minutes.

I was so hungry ,I forgot to take a pic of my plate. They serve great portions.

Hong Kong Express is an amazing Chinese Food spot located in Costa Mesa!!! Service is quick and the plates are served with overflowing goodness!!! Their Chow Mein is just strands of delicious noodles!!! Their BBQ Pork is flavorful and their Orange Chicken is just sooooooo bomb!!!! This place affordable with 2 items and Chow Mein is about 13 dollars which is a steal!!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is small, but efficient and effective!!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When my friend and I showed up 3 people were ahead of us only took us about 5 min to order and dip! Quite fast and I am so full typing this review hahahah!!!! Thank you Hong Kong Express for the satisfaction I received from your restaurant tonight!!!! Keep it up ;)

Casual Chinese takeout with a nice variety of options and huge, generous portions. Love that the chow mein has thick noodles and the flavor on the bbq chicken and bbq pork is top notch. Great value for the money. Service was brusque but efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Easy to find parking and there's a few small tables if you want to eat there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Panda Express could NEVER! Hong Kong Express was a popular stop for my family while I was in high school. My older brother would bring some home for us after he got off work and it fed all of us. These portion sizes aren't just bringing value, they allow a family to dine together without going broke or hungry. I am truly grateful for the Hong Kong Express chain. Even then I come back and I see families ordering to eat together. I hope this business stays forever!

The Northeast rice wrap is huge and filling, the iron-plate fried instant noodles are not oily or mushy and come with egg and luncheon meat, and the shredded chicken pairs well with rice. The New Orleans-style wings are juicy and well-seasoned without being too salty. Delivery from this place is already a solid 10/10, but the food definitely tastes even better dining in! Ordered the…read morenon spicy soup, chose my ingredients including quail eggs, I looooove quail eggs so ordered double serving. The soup was delivered no problem. First thing was way too many noodles that completely absorbed the broth and I said way too many I'm not exaggerating, it was more like a noodle pudding. I just wanted a comforting soup but I guess I'll just have wet noodles instead. The flavor was good which make me feel more positive about this experience, I haven't even make it to half of my soup (not soup) I decided to try the quail eggs, I'm not sure if they already have them boiled or they boil them with the broth but they were bad, they had a really strong unpleasant taste like they were going bad and that taste stayed in my mouth for several minutes, I just kept drinking soda and the uncomfortable feeling then traveled to my throat, the taste was so strong that I just felt pretty much disgusted with the whole soup. I just covered with the lid and throw it away. I'm glad I ordered rice because that was all I ended up eating. Extremely disappointed, I hate being miserable with bad food and wasting away money in a business that seem not to care about how they serve their food. I'm glad I didn't get sick.

I do love that there are two patio tables outside in case you happen to have a dog with you, which I did. And thankfully the patio and tables are clean too. The Jalapeno chicken at No. 1 Chinese food rivals any I've had. Large servings and tasty food mean that I'll come back to this place again the next time I visit my son. He's in college in the area and when I visit we like to try local food places. Tucked in the corner of the strip mall, it was busy with people coming in to take their meals out. Steady flow of customers while we were there around 1pm. We got orange chicken as well and both chow mein and fried rice I recommend giving them a try.

The lamb skewers were juicy and perfectly seasoned with cumin, and the grilled beef tendon skewers had an amazing crispy, chewy texture. The soup dumplings were full of flavorful broth, and the braised beef knife-cut noodles were chewy with large, tender chunks of beef. We also tried the beef paomo for the first time--it was warm, comforting, and packed with rich flavor. The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and after chatting with the staff we learned the owner is from Xi'an, which explains how authentic everything tasted. I guess I thought it would have more meat inside the crispy part. The flavor was great! The bad: the crispy duck was a let down. After waiting g nearly 30 mins for it, it was dry. Like super dry. It wasn't easy to separate the meat from the bone either. I've had lots of duck. This may have been the worst one I've ever had. But because of the good reviews, I will certainly be coming back to try other things.
