45 minute wait to ORDER because they stopped taking orders after overloading the grill with burgers. I can't understand why they would stop taking orders and have over thirty customers standing in line when there are open tables left and right. Three different employees came outside to tell us to move the line and wrap it around the water station because we were blocking the door too much, although there was another designated exit door twenty feet away. The staff we encountered was not personable. We had so much time to decide on our order that we had it memorized. When we finally made it to the counter, the cashier rudely said "HOLD ON" partially through our order, which consisted of four specials and one impossible with some fries and one milkshake. Ironically, she still left an item out of our order when she repeated it. She had a bit of an attitude when we requested different cook times on burgers, and insisted there was only the "hopdoddy way" with a thin pink line. I haven't had this issue with any other hopdoddy location. The food was fine and came out quickly relative to our time waiting in line. The Mac and cheese was a little bland and the queso fries were too salty. If there's queso, the fries shouldn't be salted too. Overall, massive inefficiencies and poorly prepared staff. We came here for a Saturday night dinner a few days after their grand opening. The line was out the door! We expected this, as it is a new location & I'm sure there are tons of people who want to try Hopdoddy, but what we were most frustrated for was not how crowded the place was, but because they had ONE poor cashier taking orders and introducing the entire menu to each party. We waited for almost 45 minutes in line, just to order. Meanwhile, there were 10-15 employees working in the kitchen. A gentle suggestion would be perhaps having 2-3 cashiers to take faster orders if they anticipate a busier night (like on weekends), or having our orders taken in line and we'd just pay at the register. Every employee was very nice, and I appreciated the introductions, but we could see guests become very frustrated over time with a very easy fix to the problem. We ordered the vegan, bison, El Diablo, and Kobe beef burgers. Buffalo fries and truffle fries to share. Oreo milkshake. Oreo milkshake is to die for. 10/10 would order again. Would also order vegan and truffle fries again. Portions are very small for the price (the size of a palm), and our bill came out to be over $80. One of our burgers came out undercooked, and the staff was very kind to take it back to the kitchen, and gave us another order of fries as an apology. Enjoyed our first visit at the new Clear Lake location! We opted to sit at the bar and enjoy full service by the awesome Angel & Dylan. Happy hour Monday-Friday from 3:00 to 6:30 pm. Drink specials and most excitedly, the burger of the month is $5 during happy hour! The burgers were awesome!! My BF enjoyed the classic (he added cheddar cheese and bacon for $2.25 more). I ordered the Llano Burger to try something new! It had pepper jack cheese, poblano pepper, a special aioli, and the standard lettuce, tomatoes and white onion. The beef patty was ground on site, formed into patties on site, cooked to perfection on site, and served to me on site! We also ordered the green chili queso fries. Queso is always served on the side, which prevents the fries from becoming soggy. I love them. I usually curbside order from here a few times a week and the process is super easy, giving it a few extra points in my book. Everything in this meal was phenomenal, the price may be high for burgers but honestly the quality is worth it. My wife's burger was sweet and savory with those carmelozed onions, really filling and not lacking your heavy thanks to the beef. I got the shroom burger which was surprisingly a fantastic combination, I haven't had pesto with goat cheese before but I'm now a big fan! We also got the Nutella and pretzel shake which honestly had to be phenomenal given the ingredients but I will day compared to other shakes the temperature was much better. Pros: The burgers are good. The fries are even better. The restaurant, including the restroom were clean. Cons: You order and pay before sitting. This means you tip before receiving service and I don't like that....especially since I didn't get good service. What was the point of tipping? I had to get up multiple times to refill my drink. Delish!! First time here at HopDoddy Burger Bar in the Webster/ClearLake area. Very delicious. This place is a little on the expensive side but it is so worth it. My colleagues and I came here for lunch. We each got a Cheeseburger and split those yummy Truffle Fries. All of which was so dang good. The beef is good and tasty. HopDoddy has their secret sauce as well which is yummy too. There's lots of options here. And next time, I'll indulge in a Chocolate Shake. The restaurant itself is very nice. Lots of light and very welcoming. This one is super clean and the service is on point. It's loud, I don't drink and I hate sports, so Hopdoddy is NOT on my list of great places to dine. The location is easy to miss, since it's in a small strip. Because of that, parking is a problem. I don't eat hamburgers very much, if I wanted one, I usually get a turkey burger, since those are healthy and much more delicious. Sadly, they don't serve turkey burgers, just tuna and ground chicken, I hate tuna, and their ground chicken burgers are dry and don't have enough flavor. Hopdoddy's fried chicken is bland too. Their selection of fries are OK, but you can't get a small portion of fries with your burger, Hopdoddy only serve HUGE servable bowls of fries. As soon as you walk through the door they tell you what table you will seat at and when you're ready to order you go up to the front. Food came out quick. The truffle fries were very underwhelming. It just tasted like regular soggy fries to me, but the sweet potato fries were solid and crispy. My el Diablo burger was good, but my biggest complaint is that the bottom burger bun was extremely greasy and wet. As soon as my hand grabbed the burger the grease literally dripped down my arm. Not sure the cause but sound good. The burger itself was so good. Very fresh with grilled onions, cheese, caffeinated bbq sauce and jalapeño. So good. Really loved this. While I realize they just opened a few weeks back it seems there are just a few things that should be put in place from the beginning that happen when there are issues with food. They do not ask how you want your burger cooked. For us we always like medium so we were glad they were not over cooked. However, one of our 8 burgers was actually almost raw and the rest were Medium rare plus. So we sent the one back. In the meantime we asked for mustard. After approximately 4-5 min I got up and retrieved it from the staff myself in order not to eat a cold burger. I note that She was on her way from the kitchen at that point. My thoughts are if you need something to eat your meal when it's delivered that should be the priority for the staff wether it is a fork or condiment. This seems to be a common issue these days in a lot of places. When I got back to the table, upon opening the kids burger we noticed were missing 1/2 the patty. It might not have been so noticeable if there had been something on the burger but she likes it dry so it was quit obvious and you think it would've been to the cook as well. We waited because we assumed the other burger would be showing up quickly and we were going to make them aware of this issue at that time however after 10 minutes we decided to go ahead and address it to staff. So I walked up to the bar and They sent Jared (same gentlemen that had taken the burger for replacement and he immediately agreed that they shorted us half a burger and said he would bring a new one out. After several more minutes, close to 15 min after addressing the first burger they bring out a new one. I think most people would expect it to be great in appearance. Unfortunately, the cheese looked like it was just taken out of the fridge. But what was worse, when she pulled the bun off the top, held the cheese up, it was revealed they had put a piece of "white" cheese initially in the meat that had melted. We assume that after realizing it was the wrong cheese scrapped it off and place a fresh piece of American and slapped the bun on top. I don't know but it is very frustrating to be a paying patron and treated this way by restaurants. I guess they assume we will do what we usually do which is just accept it, eat it and either go elsewhere next time or check your food prior to the staff running off. Now for the good stuff. The staff was pleasant, and understanding with our issues, and did not seem put off with our frustrations which is why we will be back. For me, attitudes can make the difference especially when it comes to food. I realize the staff that bring it out are not the cooks so they should not take it personally just as that does not impact my tipping. When they finally brought the kids burger back out, we told them since everyone was done eating at this point we would just take the kids burger to go, however, preferred a refund on the "problem" burger. they let mgmt know and Jared took our receipt and processed a refund for the burger. We ordered the chili cheese fries, the green chili fries and truffle fries. Definitely recommend ordering. They were all good.But even though I'm a fan of truffle it was the least of our favorites by far. I really like that the burgers are not over cooked, that is not the norm at most places. The portions are appropriately sized. I'm not a fan at tipping on my receipt when I order my own food at a cash register. With that said, My husband, daughter and myself worked in the restaurant and bar industry for many years and always take care of those that provide service to us but I do do after the service not before. And I really feel that this whole tipping thing is getting out of hand. About the only place I don't see a tip jar is at the grocery line these days. I just don't think you should be expected to tip at a burger joint where you stand in line to order your burgers. Beyond good quality control in the first place, confirming the food is correct when delivering, then bringing missing items is important, then when burgers are getting remade, they should get the next burger coming off or go the the front of the line in preparing them to get them out quickly so all can eat together or at least they are not finished and sitting there before the burger is returned. Next, don't bring the food out if it is not up to standards. Come explain to the patron rather then bring out something again that is not right. Then lastly, ask them to check the new plate to make sure all is good to go before leaving the table. This is not our first trip to a Hop Doddy, we have eaten at the Austin location and had great experiences there. All in all, we will return and I will update my review. But due to all the issues I could not give more then 2 stars for this visit because although issues will occur, the issues should have been corrected a lot quicker and correctly. We were very excited to try this place but were a little disappointed on our first visit. I will say our burger was good and the sweet potato fries and sauce they come with were excellent. The food will likely bring us back. When we first arrived we were not sure what to do, there is a big bar and seating but it wasn't clear wether you get seated, go order or what. They could use someone helping customers know the process if they've never been here before for a while. The seating is a little odd, mostly tall booths which were not full (neat appearance but not real comfortable) and some short tables with chairs that were completely full (clearly the more popular, comfy choice). Once we got in line to order it was slow even though we only had one person in front of us. There were three staff members standing by the drink station eating. The young lady taking orders was not friendly at all. I asked what came on the burger and she answered with a bit of an attitude as if she was put out by the question. I asked for the burger sauce on the side and notified her that our table number changed because a short table came open once cleaned hoping she would let the kitchen know but she didn't. After waiting for our burger for 15-20 minutes our server asked what we had because a burger had been sitting up there but wasn't our number. It was ours they just hadn't made a connection because the table number wasn't corrected when ordering. The server at our table was nice. Condiment and drink station need improvement, messy, hardly stocked and mayo (not refrigerated) and mustard very hard to get to in a very busy area. He asked was I waiting for something and I told him them situation and he got me my order free of charge. The situation was, it was shift change and the cashier took my order, by the way I ordered the peppercorn hamburger with sweet potato fries which was freaking amazing but besides the point the cashier didn't ask for my name so my order was just floating around. The atmosphere feels very local, and makes you want to stay for awhile to eat and enjoy your meal. I ordered the classic burger + cheese, and a large order of their regular fries. As you can see the large is big enough for everyone to share (which is nice). The taste of the burger was tasty, but wasn't distinct enough to stand out against other burgers I've had in the past. I think it could've used a bit more flavor.. maybe I should try one of the specialty burgers next time.. This is a great spot to meet up with friends. We have hit this place up 2-3 times. They offer an impossible patty and we are plant based so we're happy to have another option. Dear god, the cost. They don't really have a Vegan burger with any interest, you have to sub in the vegan patty on one of the existing, already pricey burgers. Do they give you a credit for the patty they pulled off the burger? No. You have to buy the $13 burger and pay an extra $3.50 for the change. Ok. Now the fries are "shareable" at $9, but, not really since the burger isn't that big and you are going to be hungry if you share those fries. Then, there is the tipping thing. They want you to tip when you order...at the counter. But the only service they provide is to deliver your food. You even have to get your own drink. So are you paying for the expertise of the people you do interact with? Not really. They have very little knowledge of which items are dairy free or how to best structure an order. When I asked if they even received the tip I was putting on there, they shrugged and said they didn't know. $60 later we had ok burger and fries for two, soda and left feeling pretty blah about the whole thing. Today we tried Hopdoddy my wife has been dying to go here, the line was long and it did not move quick, but the sign above the counter said a burger worth waiting in line for so we stayed. The wife and I had the impossible burger which we have had before at other places. This is a plant base burger no meat, but I have to say somebody is lying because if a plant base burger taste this good, those Chi-fil - A cows will have to find another job real soon. My kids had a couple of the specialty burgers a breakfast burger which my youngest liked and the older one had a burger with a fried egg that she didn't enjoy. My family enjoys Hopdoddy, just not this location. We ordered some food to-go, and the customer service was ok. They forgot our shake, so we had to drive back for it when we were halfway home. They didn't apologize or offer to make us a new shake. They just handed us a melted shake.. When we got home, our food was cold, the fries were stale, and we were a bit upset spending what we did for what we consider a mediocre trip to Hopdoddy.
