Our first time at this restaurant was a wonderful experience. From the starter, roasted veggies in miso sauce, to the fish special in a great broth with bok choy and noodles, to the banana crème pie in a jar all was delicious. Wines by glass were excellent. Wow. The fish dish was one of the best I've had in my life. I've had similar dishes in Spain and Italy, but somehow they managed to do it better in Santa Fe. I was totally pleasantly surprised. I think the dish was so good because everything was cooked to perfection. The fish itself was perfect, the roasted tomatoes were just the right texture and the brussel sprouts and olives were still just the right amount of crunchy. The service was also great. This was a most pleasant surprise. We had dinner in the former restaurant in this location, and had dismissed it for this trip. Then we saw it was now Horno and loved it. Very pleasant atmosphere, spartan to some, but near and clean. Staff was awesome, friendly and efficient, and a flexible kitchen with your requests to your meal. My two favorite things. Don't know what to call it food wise, but essentially small bites [creative small bites] and a few mains. My food was excellent, had a roast chicken fish with capers and stuff, and the hand cut fries were very good. Nice wine list, fair priced. Wished they had longer hours , I don't think they open at lunch. But come hear and support this business. read more

Underwhelming. I was very disappointed since I had heard such great things about this new restaurant. We were seated initially at an outdoor table that was tilted so badly one wondered what they were thinking to have set that up. Fortunately, after two requests, we were moved. Not a good start plus a cheeky response from a wait person when asked to be moved. I ordered the po boy with fries. The po boy was 95% white bread with oysters so small you could hardly taste them. The fries were cold and limp. My friend had two salads and neither were remarkable. The beet salad had two itty bitty beets on it and a bunch of wilted lettuce. Not sure what the other was but the greens there also were wilted. The noise level in the dining room was very high. In the renovation of this space they have created very hard surfaces on floors and ceiling and the noise just bounces. Unremarkable service. Adequate but certainly not welcoming or accommodating. Phenomenal food! Went on a Monday night and it was packed. Definitely recommend making reservations! Our group of four shared the wings and meatball. The wings were tasty with crispy skin. The fish special was super fresh and perfectly cooked. The burger was juicy and delicious, with a very spicy sauce. The fries were also very good. Then...the dessert! The dessert was exceptional. Very creative too! Especially the homemade pop tart with a buttery, flaky pasty crust with fruit filling and ice cream. So delicious! The staff were great and very attentive! We had such an amazing experience! We had traveled 6 hours to Santa Fe and got into town right at 10pm when everything including Horns was scheduled to close. They took us anyway and served us the most beautiful meal in the most gracious way even though it was about an hour after closing when we finally finished our meal. Chef David and his wife Heather and the incomparable host Vida Mendez and excellent staff are half the equation to an excellent restaurant. Add Chef David's stellar food to the equation and you have the makings of a superb fine dining experience, period. The pork belly, ravioli and tuna tartare starters are out of this world. My hubby (a part-time vegan!) was emotional when he ate the pork belly. Add the award winning burger and hanger steak as main course selections and you know Adobo is up and coming and here to stay. Visiting from Virginia and came across Horno on a food tour. This is the only place we returned to, as both the food and service quality was outstanding. Heather and David have successfully produced an intimate dining experience for all. The food was top shelf, the service was outstanding and should we ever be in town again, we will come again. The small plates were just right for a three-course meal where we didn't feel like we would roll out of there, and every bite was a party. The food was wonderful. Horno is a lively spot and we were really happy we chose to have dinner here while in town. We had dinner at the bar and the entire staff was so friendly! We shared the shrimp appetizer and both had the Leo's Smackdown Burger with fries as our meal. Wow, that's a delicious burger!! What's not to love about bacon, onions and green chiles! LOL, David comments on my absolutely accurate review that I was offered a seat outside (untrue) and I was taking up "two seats" at the bar, which is tiny, cramped, and only really has room for about four people tops. Do you actually feel you have to call an unhappy customer a liar in order to convince people to visit your restaurant? The worst way to respond to an unhappy customer is to accuse them of lying, yes? David's reply to my original review: "This guest was offered a seat outside and refused. Our manager respectfully asked him to move his chair over because he was taking up 2 seats at our bar on a busy night. We take pride in having one of the friendliest staff in town. This account of what happened is blatantly untrue so please come by and see how low key and friendly Horno is for yourself!!"" My original review: Rude, lack of hospitality, an unwelcome feeling, and a tense atmosphere. I was a solo diner, not given the option of waiting for a two-top, which I would have. I decided to sit at the bar so I could give the food a try. I sat at the bar for quite some time without any hint of service. One of the owners came by and patted me on the back, which was really startling, and asked me to make more room at the bar for other patrons. I already felt like I was pretty cramped there. I got up and said (politely) that I would come back another time when it was less crowded, and I got a sarcastic or at least strange, dismissive reaction from the owner. Very uncomfortable. Don't touch patrons. Have some understanding for how cramped your bar area is for solo diners. Be more welcoming and attentive to all patrons. There are literally dozens of fine restaurants in Santa Fe and Horno will not last if there is not a change in the tense, rude, inhospitable atmosphere. I walked a couple blocks to another relatively new restaurant and had a warm welcome and had an amazing dinner. This is how Santa Fe works. Great "farm to table" restaurant. I have not been disappointed with anything I have had here. Their burger is one of the best I've ever had. The miso vegetable side was amazing. Great selection of wine and beer. They change with the seasons, which I appreciate, and they make an effort to have an incredible special every night. The good: Pork Belly was amazing, perfectly done and the Korean flavors shine through. The bad: the focaccia was light and airy, more like Wonder Bread than real focaccia with no flavor from the bread. The Ugly: the service, while not explicitly rude was pushy, no, you can't order a main after ordering your side dish, go to the restroom and someone will take your unfinished plate, servers expect you to move out of their way. Other dishes were good but not remarkable. The Price: meh. While not crazy, 2 people, 2 dishes each, 1 desert and 3 drinks total, price was $200. Santa Fe has great restaurants at every level, this isn't on the return list. read more

We loved Horno. I ordered Oysters and Octopus. All was delicious. Staff was great and service was awesome. My only criticism was that there was very little Octopus and mostly potatoes. I am hoping this improves next time. We'll definetly go back. read more

David Sellars is enormously talent with a fresh take on dining here at Horno. Small plates that are interesting and delicious. Large plates and salads. Don't miss the fried chicken every other Wednesday. Perhaps the best I've ever had. I understand the chicken undergoes brining and a buttermilk/Siracha bath. It is crisp and succulent and served on a gravy made with pork belly. WOW!!!! it was served with a home made biscuit with butter and jam and roasted asparagus spears. It was sublime but I think I was the only person using my fingers. I couldn't help it!!! You must go. You really must!!! read more
