Horno deserves 5 stars in every category except one. The food is really excellent...from the appetizers (a single largish meatball meatball worthy of it's own website) through the entrees (notably the chicken and the hangar steak), followed by the desserts (a blueberry torte)...all absolutely delicious and memorable. The wait staff is also first rate, the ambiance is pleasant, the wine list is fine and the lingering after effect overall leaves one feeling pretty positive. I did take exception however to the mind numbing volume of the "dinner music" next to the bar which made table conversation virtually impossible for my dinner companions and myself...a simple fix that I mentioned to the waiter...which went unheeded This alone put a serious dent in my enjoyment of this dining experience...! Overall a good experience, but this restaurant is loud! The acoustics are terrible and it is very difficult to have a conversation. We found the food to be mostly very good. The smoked wings, Caesar salad, and duck cannelloni were all excellent. Pollo ala Mattone and squid ink linguine were outstanding, the vegetable dumplings not so much. Large plates are shareable. I would definitely go back, but probably on a weeknight when hopefully the restaurant won't be as noisy. read more

Very disappointed. The food was not good at all and the service was very mediocre at best. The octopus appetizer was cold and bland, the squid ink pasta was absolutely under seasoned and microwaved. My husband got the burger and it was also very bland and had no seasoning. I was hoping for a better experience but unfortunately it wasn't here. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us but we couldn't get a rez, so we walked there at opening time, crossing fingers. The hostesses couldn't have been nicer and squeezed us in to a lovely little deuce for an early dinner. The service from our server Angelina, was friendly, fast and efficient. Her team pitched in as the restaurant got busier with the evening dinner crowd but our service was always spot on - attentive, not hovering. Now the food - I am a vegan and expected to have a few menu options where key ingredients could be omitted to accomadate me, but not necessary. There were multiple delicious items so I started with Roasted Beet Salad - so texturaly, tasty and colorful. For my entree I tried the dumplings that were perfect - cool and hot, spicy and calming with micro greens and packed with flavor. Didn't leave a morsel on the plate. My husband had the tuna tartare and a different salad, also cleaning his plate and appreciating that two small plates were light enough to allow room for a dessert. So glad he did, it was EPICally delish and he recommends the Chocolate Tahini Torte. From service to food , this was one of the best dining out experiences I have had in years. We celebrated my friend's birthday there, although the food menu wasn't giving tons of options, we ordered almost all starters (and a few times!) and it was so so good... my favorite was the ravioli (and of course the bread lol) Then we had the main courses, I took the steak on rice, medium rare, the fried rice was a bit spicy for me but the steak was GREAT... Horno is an excellent new addition to Santa Fe. I don't understand why some reviews are so harsh. They opened 4 months ago and are doing a fine job!! First and foremost, the quality of the food is excellent. We started with the meatball appetizer and is was a perfect meatball with sumptuous marinara sauce and cheese. The meatball was large enough to be shared by two people but certainly a 2nd order hit the spot. I had the Korean hanger steak entree which was perfectly balanced with incredible flavor. My husband had the grouper special with a Thai flair....also very tasty!! Second, prices are reasonable for the plaza. For those who are complaining about the prices in their reviews, they are being very unreasonable. If they don't like the prices they should stay away from the plaza. Horno was reasonably priced for the location. So happy to have another option for great food in Santa Fe!!! read more

Cheers to the Kitchen staff and the front of the house. Everyone did a phenomenal job, from the moment we made our reservation, yesterday afternoon to our dinner last night, was very pleased to see great service well executed during these trying times. The menu was creative, loaded with innovative preparation of Small Plates and Big Plates. The Chicken Wings are a must to order. We have never tasted such delicious caramelization on wings. The Roasted Meatball with Marinara sauce was tender and cooked to perfection, served with house made Grilled Focaccia. Our Big Plates of Pork Dumplings were rich, swimming in Coconut milk, with Lemongrass, Kaffir and a swirl of Chile Oil mixed in. The Korean BBQ Short Rib, with Kimchi Fried Rice and Enoki Mushrooms was the perfect accompaniment to the dish. We savored every bite. How we found room for dessert, I do not know, but the Summer Berry Parfait was a huge serving and we finished it all. The food was delicious, but the noise level inside was so loud that as a table of 4 we couldn't hold a conversation. There wasn't just one loud table ruining it for the others, everyone was having to shout just to be heard, which makes the noise level just go up that much more. I'm sorry to say we won't go back unless it is warm enough to eat outside or they do something about the acoustics. We hope that is soon. The chef checks on you which is unique, he really cares that your experience is special. Don't pass this up when you are in town. Wine list is an A. Very unimpressed with the food. The tuna tartare was sitting on a risotto cake, which totally overpowered the delicate tuna. And the chef's signature dumplings were very hard to eat. I had a knife, fork and spoon, and U still struggled to eat the dumplings, which floated in a bowl of coconut milk which should have been a backdrop for interesting flavors but instead tasted like it had just been poured out of a can. Even the apple dessert disappointed; the flavors were good but the apples were rubbery. The good wine selections, pleasant ambiance and excellent service could normals up for the truly disappointing food. read more

Horno provides an extremely limited menu. The biggest disappointment was there was a ten minute wait between the first plates to the table and the last two. So four of us had cold food by the time we could all eat together. I also felt some of the prices were high for the quality of the food. Not impressed and a bit disappointed. read more

Stopped in at Horno during a walking food tour and was so impressed with the sample we returned after the tour ended to sample more. Our group of 6 sampled 5 of their small plates along with 2 fantastic bottles of wine. The food was excellent -- the pumpkin ravioli was the best I've ever had. The owner and chef (husband and wife team) were genuine, engaging people and we enjoyed talking with them. Highly recommend this new restaurant!! read more

What a wonderful experience! Delicious food, a simple but lovely ambience and excellent service. The smoked chicken wings with Thai crab caramel, pinon, and green onion were outstanding. The Mahi Mahi was succulent, and the apple cobbler dessert was heavenly. Our entire meal suggested that a very talented, creative chef was working behind the scenes. On the recommendation of friends a group of four ate their recently. Nothing we ordered wa right. The focaccia, rather than flat bread. Was a cake-like bread. Not good. The cannelloni first course was mushy and tasteless. Couldn't find any duck. Two in the party shared the bouillabaisse. One got sick that night. You could smell unsavory fish as it got close to the table. The Korean hangar steak was as tough as leather and served over a bed of partially cooked rice. Another guest had the Caesar salad. Three pieces of romaine lettuce, uncut with more of the cake bread. The dining room is so noisy that it was a struggle to hear people at the table. Not planning a return visit. Chef needs to get a good cookbook. read more

Tried Horno tonight. Had high Hope's for Horno after reading reviews. I am a retired chef of 35 years in fine dining. My expectations are high not only for the food but the service, atmosphere and managment. The food this evening didn't even register mediocre on my rating scale. Menu options were small. Even the large entree offerings were petite. Overall flavor was less than memorable. Service was ok however my partners entree arrived 5 minutes before mine and mine was not hot. Food runner neglected to remove our salad plates before delivering entrees. This really bothers me. The noise level was excruciatingly loud. It seemed as though there were 2 different music's playing at the same time and conversation was difficult. The last infraction was not one of the staff inquired if we enjoyed our food and dinning experience. So sad. Another Santa Fe hopeful strikes out! just wonderful--- small but not loud, focus is on the food. it's quite good and not too expensive, the wine list is not very long but well curted. we were there last night, wonderful halibut and a truly superb veal stew pasta. great service as well! All in all- will def go back! read more
