This place is a small mom and pops diner. They serve breakfast starting at 6am and serve lunch until 3pm. If you are on the service road of GBT you won't miss the red sign. I've seen this place on my way to work and decided to finally give them a try. I had the breakfast combo for $5 which comes with any of the three items on the list. My choices were eggs, hash brown and pancakes. The eggs of course you can't go wrong with that. The hash browns were the normal shredded kind but it was lacking a little bit of salt. The pancakes weren't too bad but they were fluffy. With the meal you get a regular bottled drink like oj or milk. For the price the food was good and the portion size was excellent. The wait time wasn't as long for a kitchen with one chef. Yes there's only one chef in the kitchen and he might be the pop. The mom is out serving the customers and taking the orders. I'd never expect to see this type of a restaurant in the middle of houses and buildings. Went here for lunch and I ordered the burger with fries. The burger had big, gross pieces of hard gristle. It didn't have any flavor and really disappointing. The fries were not anything to rave about. Just your typical frozen fries. I would not recommend this Hole in the wall. read more

My wife and I had lunch there. I had the catfish and he had the hamburger with egg and bacon. The catfish fish was perfectly cooked and did not have that swampy taste to it. I ordered the egg white omelet, and it comes with toast, but I didn't want the toast. So I told her no toast, and I wanted onions added to the omelet. She said that was .50 extra. I said "for onions?". She said substitutions are extra (the menu does say that, however, I was not substituting anything). I was adding something, plus, saving them some money for not having to waste the toast that I didn't want. She said "rules are rules", and I asked to speak with the mgr and she said he (the owner) was cooking. I tried to get her to understand my point and she just looked at me. In the meantime, another lady came up and asked me if I wanted food or not...I said yes, but it wasn't right to charge for a small bit of onions, when I'm not wanting to take something else that is more expensive. So I said whatever, I'll just take the "effing" omelet the way it is. Well, that made the girl mad who was taking my order and she walked off...so another girl came up, and said they don't make the rules..I said I understand that. So I ordered for my co-worker and he wanted a side of bacon...the girl said "it's $1.80 extra". I said "where does it say $1.80? I see $1.50, but not $1.80". She said the $1.50 was for extra items on the build your own breakfast...I said I can see that, but I don't see anywhere on the menu about the other price. Then she asked me if I was ordering for the AT&T group! I said no, I'm not...she said that's what they charge. I said ok, but I would like to see on the menu that the extra bacon is $1.80 instead of $1.50. She said it's not on there. Again, the other lady came up and asked me DO YOU WANT FOOD OR NOT?? I couldn't believe she was talking to me like that! In the meantime, the first girl who was taking my order walked by and I said "I'm sorry for offending you". She ignored me. I said "ma'am?". She said "I'm not talking to you..you said effing and I didn't do anything to you for you to cuss at me." I said I wasn't cussing you, I was cussing that the whole substitution "rule" was ridiculous. She definitely needs to grow up and learn to deal with upset customers if she's going to be working with the public, especially in restaurants. Anyway, I went ahead and paid for everything...now mind you...I could care less about the charge for onions or the extra charge for bacon....but, if a business is going to do that to their customers, then add it to the menu. Like I said, the food was very good, but the service was horrible...except for the young lady who was patient with me about the bacon upcharge. If i could have tipped her separately, I would have, but they pool their tips, and I wasn't about to give the DO YOU WANT FOOD OR NOT lady or the girl who can't handle a customer's attitude. I will probably order from there again since the food is good, but I won't go in to eat, and I'll have my co-worker pick it up for me, since he hasn't had any trouble. read more

We were looking to try a new brekkie place on Sunday and saw that Hot Pancakes was close by and had good reviews. We were not disappointed - quick service, lots of choices and really good value for money. I had a quesadilla, my wife had the chicken fried steak and my son the pancakes. They were all very good. I have visited this cafe twice now, once for Sunday breakfast and once on a Tuesday for lunch. I had eggs, bacon, sausage patties, hash browns, pancakes and the breakfast burrito on my first visit. At lunch I stopped in and placed a to go order for the 3.99 cheeseburger and fries advertised in the window. Presentation of the establishment was clean and simple, a little sparse and there wasn't anywhere that didn't make me feel like we were in the way if waiting for a to go order. At breakfast we were told to choose a table and be seated. We were helped by a very young but attentive and pleasant staff. The water is terrible but that is a City of Richardson thing that you are probably aware of if you have had tap water anywhere in this city. The food seemed to be quite slow to be served given that only half the tables were occupied. We were pleasantly surprised with the taste of all the ingredients. Everything was fresh and made well, we really enjoyed the value for what was on our plates. At lunch the place was quite a bit busier but the amount of time it took to make two cheeseburgers seemed inappropriate. A small mixup also occurred and some to go orders of bacon cheeseburgers went out to a patron that ordered after we did. Again the burger seemed to be comprised of fresh ingredients and I enjoyed it. The fries are nothing to write home about and were a bit soft and saggy. Overall a great value and food that tastes great. However the speed of service could use work but perhaps they are still looking for their stride. read more

The prices are so cheap. You can get a cheese burger with fries for $3.99. The "build your own breakfast" allows you to choose 3 items for just under $5. The hashbrowns were cooked perfectly, the bacon was crispy. My boyfriend got chocolate chip pancakes (he would've preferred to add some walnuts to them as well but they said they can only do chocolate chip or blueberry but you can get waffles with only nuts in it- we will probably try their waffles next time). I got the sunny burger- bacon, cheddar, sunny side up egg- I asked for fried. The party was cooked well done and it was still juicy. My only complaint was that the fries weren't cooked long enough. They were cooked all the way through but the fries were still white on the outside. It looked like it just needed 30 seconds to a minute left in the fryer to get that nice golden crunch on the outside. Overall, I would go back and try out some of their other items on the menu. It's a pretty generic breakfast place but it's so much better than IHOP and you get such a great deal for the quality and amount of food you get. read more

After trying to get the attention of 2 employees, the third one I managed to get to look me in the eye so I could ask if we seat ourselves. Then, 3 more attempts to get the attention of a staff members to get menus and coffee. Things went well from then on until I cut into my chicken fried steak and it was bloody raw! My boyfriend and his daughter had ordered other things and they weren't bad but when I saw the grosley undercooked meat on my plate, I was done. I asked for a manager, (after trying 3 times to flag someone down again) and a very young lady who looked surprised that she was considered the manager came over and saw the undercooked meat and made an appropriate "ewwwe" face and offered to have it cooked longer for me. I told her "no" my appetite was ruined. So, she took it off our bill. With all the restaurants in the area that are very good. Serving undercooked meat is unaccepable. read more

Cheap, fast friendly atmosphere. I had scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, no carbs for me and coffee. My friend had eggs, bacon and a biscuit. The coffee was hot, fresh and refilled often, we were given water as well. The food came out hot and was tasty. Our total bill for everything was under 11$. The girls that checked us out were very friendly and said they had been open for two years. I have small children who weren't with me but noticed they make little bear face pancakes. The sausage was a disappointment since it was on par with sausage you might get at a fast food breakfast joint. The coffee was good, and the have half an half for those that want it. I don't go here as much as I use to because I can't stand how rude the cooks are. The servers are extremely nice and hospitable; however I have witnessed on several different occasions, the cooks being rude to the servers. I ordered cottage cheese and when I took a bite, I had to spit it out because it was spoiled. The server had to ask the cook multiple times to get me fruit instead and they make the servers out to be the bad guy when it's out of their control. The servers deserve to be treated better because they are all extremely nice & they are the reason people come back...it's not the food! read more

First time I came with someone from San Francisco who favors American breakfast there. She was really skeptical with this place. I was very anxious for potentially recommending a place that my friend was not pleased. When we start eating, we can't stop praising the food. The over easy eggs were done perfectly. Hash browns were great. Spicy link sausage is yummy. Pancakes is of course really yummy. This place is down to earth home style food. 3 item breakfast with coffee is only $4.95. What a local gem. The food was average a t best and the service was not good, our waitress took forever to take our order and and it was just not very inviting. I would look for somewhere else for breakfast, it has potentail but it needs better friendlier service and more fresh food. Great breakfast. I had the Lumberjack, which was enough for 2 people. My wife built her own with 3 bacons, 2 smoked sausages and oatmeal. She loved creating her own plate for under $5. She couldn't eat all of her food. The service was excellent. They even changed the A/C to make it comfortable for everyone in the area. Just very accommodating folks here.
