I've been coming here for a little while now, and the owner is so nice, customer service is great, variety of food is amazing! I am from Hawaii and we know our chicken katsu, and I can confidently say that this is the best chicken katsu I've had here in Dallas. While it's a shame we missed out on the fun interior this place seems to offer, sometimes these days the best for testing out a new food spot is going the boring "take out" route which is what we did this evening with Hungry Belly. We are like you and have taken out more places than we'd like to recall....some we just don't; but this sushi spot was so tasty, extra fresh, outside the box fun and (even best) "take out" memorable! Sushi can be a miss so let me assure you that if you decide to just stay in your sweats but still want fresh sashimi and inventive rolls, Hungry Belly is a hit! But anyway haha, Hungry Belly is DELICIOUS and FRESH!! We first checked them out Jan 1st. Their portions are very generous, food always comes out hot! And everything on their menu is a fair price. We've ordered their Orange chicken bowl at least 3 times in one month, Yaki Udon noodles, their Teriyaki bowl for the first time this week, Krab Rangoon, and the California roll sushi twice. Again, DELICIOUS & FRESH!! Totally recommend! Hungry Belly was one of the first places that came up when I searched "best sushi in Dallas with good parking" and I see why. 1) the sushi was SO good and 2) parking was so easy. Hungry Belly is a small establishment but I went around 7:15 on a Friday and was seated immediately and found parking with no problem. It's a very cute restaurant, perfect for date night or a small dinner with friends. I ordered beef gyoza to start (not pictured because I devoured it before a picture could be taken) and my friend got the fried tofu and shrimp gyoza. The gyoza was so so good and my friend loved her tofu! But what really stole the show was the sushi. There are SO many options to choose from so I'll definitely be back but this time I went with the fried Naruto Roll and it was SO GOOD. The sauce, the freshness, everything. 10/10 would recommend. I thought I would need more food but there is actually a good amount of serving for each! I even had some leftover to take but we also got an appetizer. I love spam and spam misubi was 4/5. Nicely cooked but I'm a fan of more seaweed - like entirely wrapped except the ends. Rice kept falling out and it was kinda messy to eat. Hungry Bully is odd in the sense that they serve a little bit of everything --Japanese, Korean, and varieties of Korean-American fusion. I'm normal wary of this type of restaurant, but I've been here twice and and have left both times with a happy and satisfied belly. I've had assortments of sashimi, sushi, and rolls, and all have been good. The sashimi was clean and fresh, which is always a good sign. For a casual restaurant, the presentation of their dishes also does not disappoint. Last time, I also tried their sunomono salad and spam musubi, both of which were yummy. Their kimchi fries are smothered in cheese and definitely satisfy my need for culinary indulgence. Overall, I like Hungry Belly. They may not serve the most ethnically authentic cuisine, but their food is solid and the setting is nice and casual. Perfect for those times you just want a good meal without the fuss. Unfortunately, this place is going to be a solid no for me. With such amazing Korean/Japanese happening throughout the metroplex, the bar is high. They get one star for ambiance. The location is super convenient and fun after an after work drink or three at the area bars. Walk over, walk in and enjoy nice decor, high top, low top and bar seating. They get another star for service. The staff were nice, offering us a variety of seating options, making sure our glasses were full, and bring out food quickly. The food was a solid fail. My simple Spicy Korean Chicken Bento was a huge disappointment. The spicy chicken was dry and monochromatic in flavor. The salad, meh, the wonton, I doubt it was frozen and tossed in a fryer, but it tasted like it was, and finally, the half roll, unmemorable at best. DFW has amazing Korean/Japanese food. Save yourself $15 bucks plus tip and head to Carrollton and explore for something real and delicious. read more
