My first time coming here because my friend suggested it. I'm usually not a fan of rolled ice cream because it's a longer wait, but this place was fantastic! I'm super surprised that I haven't yet reviewed this place. After a few (a lot, actually) visits here, I like it. In comparison to another rolled ice cream place in Jersey City, this place takes the top spot. I like their new and unique ice cream base flavors, though if you're looking for gourmet quality ice cream, this isn't it. The toppings and add-ins really make this worth it. My favorite ice cream bases include matcha (though not a strong matcha flavor), sweet cream, ube (Yes, ube! Yummy, though this ube flavor is a teensy bit on the artificial side) and my personal fave, honeydew. A few of their flavors (like honeydew) are seasonal, so when I see something on thier IG that speaks to me, I pay them a visit. I always make sure to add some sort of texture (like cornflakes) into my ice cream bases - trust me on this one! Lastly, I highly recommend trying their specials. We have been walking by this place for the longest time, and I always enjoy watching the weirdly addictive videos of the roll making process outside. There is always some sort of line, but yesterday, the place was pretty empty, so we tried our luck! We shared a large cup which gets you 1 ice cream flavor and 1 item mixed it, 2 toppings and 1 sauce. We went with vanilla cream and Oreo. The process is similar to Cold Stone Creamery, where they mix in you stuff on a cold stone and mush them nicely together. At Ice, the ice cream start off liquid. Once everything is perfectly put together, it is flattened on the cold stone and once hardened, it's rolled up in a few rolls that stay up straight in your cup! We topped it off with 1 more Oreo and mini mochi bites. Finally, we got the Nutella drizzle. The process took less than 10 minutes and the result was very tasty. We found the ice cream delicious, and super creamy. That's definitely a rich base. It was nice to try and enough to share! read more

I was thoroughly tickled and very impressed with the preparation, presentation, and taste! There were a significant amount of recommended concoctions, but I believe they will put together any ingredients you'd like. I CE NY was stop no. 3 on the 2018 bougie ice cream circuit. Its a cute little step up ice cream shop in Greenwich, which mainly means it can get crowded pretty quickly. Fortunately the service is fairly quick and the process is entertaining and Instagramable. I tried the Thai I-CE Tea, my friend had Mango Sticky R-ICE. First time having Thai rolled ice cream, other than the process, it's not different from having mix-ins and toppings elsewhere and is reasonably priced. Super excited to jump on the roll up ice cream trend and we just so happened to swing by from another dessert shop in the area. Took a quick order of the most Asian thing that I could find, only because I wanted something different from what I had previously. Green tea flavors were just not strong enough and it was nice that it was topped with red bean to bring in the two powerful Asian dessert items, but I was just not impressed. I'm probably going to be a little biased because I'm honestly not a fan of the Thai ice cream rolls trend that everyone else seems to be crazy about. I find I like ice cream of a creamier texture and they just seem really dry. I got the matcha flavored one and it was ok. I'm not amazed by it in general but that's just my preference. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and have to say, I was underwhelmed. Could it be because I built it up too much in my head? Maybe. Or that it was annoyingly hot and gross out so I was grumpy? Maybe. Either way, it wasn't as amazing as I expected it to be. At the end of the day, it's just $7 for ice cream in a bowl with toppings, and that's exactly what it tastes like. Sure, the toppings taste fresh and the ice cream tastes rich (more so than regular ice cream but less so than gelato). And it's definitely cool to watch them make it, but to me it's a one and done thing. It wasn't very crowded when I went, and we were even able to get a table which was nice. For about $7, you can create your own dessert or select from their suggested combinations. I went with the Thai Ice Cream option which came with cookie straws, lychee, and condensed milk. It was fairly decent but not something I would buy again. It was overpriced and the ice cream didn't have much flavor. New York City is no longer a stranger to the phenomenon of Thai rolled (or smashed) ice cream, and I CE NY is one of a handful of ice cream shops that specialize in this genre of desserts. For the unfamiliar, Thai rolled ice cream requires a process of spreading an even layer of ice cream base on a frozen plate chilled to -15 degrees F; the "rolled" ice cream is then made by evenly scraping thin strips into a swirl. Repeat five or six times (or more, depending on the size of the ice cream) and the end product one of the most beautiful (and time-intensive) ice cream cups that you'll lay eyes on. Located in the ever-busy epicenter of Greenwich Village, I CE NY is a pint-sized storefront easily identifiable by its seemingly never-ending line patrons that can run out the door; given that each ice cream is made to order, it's not surprising that waits are an inevitable occurrence. We'd done our best to arrive at an off-hour, but still wound up waiting for twenty or so minutes until we were able to make our way to the counter. It gave us plenty of time to review their menu, however, which offers a number of present concoctions as well as the option to customize your own ice cream given a choice of ice cream bases, mix-in ingredients, and final toppings and sauces. We wound up ordering the namesake Thai IC-E Tea, which began with a base of Thai Iced Tea Ice Cream and topped off the bowl with lychees, Choco Wafers, a drizzle of condensed milk, and whipped cream. The texture of the rolled ice cream is one of the more distinct qualities of this dessert; it's simultaneously light and creamy and seems to melt the moment it hits the tongue. While the actual flavor of the Thai Iced Tea wasn't as robust as I was hoping for, the final product was a success in taste and texture, and made for a sweet and surprisingly balanced spoonful, perfect for a warm day; after all, how can you go wrong with Choco Wafers and lychees? While it may be a little too complex and time-intensive of a treat to enjoy on a regular basis, I certainly give I CE NY credit for producing a quality dessert that's now available outside of its original borders. Yes, I admit it. I've never had rolled ice cream even though it's been a thing for years now. I was in the area and I knew today was the day! A friend and I decided to split one so we got the Chocorilla ($7). They start off taking a piece of banana, 1 Oreo, and chocolate milk ice cream base. They mix that all together and let it solidify. Then they roll it up beautifully, you know how it goes! The Chocorilla is then topped with more bananas. banana Pocky, and Nutella drizzle. It was a great dessert and really refreshing! To me, it falls in the middle of regular ice cream and shaved ice cream. It was lighter than regular and tastier than shaved ice cream. I really enjoyed it! I do think you can easily split this kind of dessert with someone else as it is pretty filling. This location is very small with seating for only about 6-8 people (if everyone is side by side) and despite this, it was really popular. Good rolled ice cream in the village! read more

I have seen countless amounts of videos of this ice cream being made and have been DYING to try it myself and this past weekend I finally accomplished my goal! As I walked to the store front I could see the line out the door. Once I finally made it into the store I picked my flavor and my add ins. I decided on vanilla ice cream with strawberries mixed in topped with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce and my absolute favorite pocky sticks! I really like that you get to watch them making the ice cream rite in front of you! The man behind the counter mixed up the rite amount of ice cream mix and poured it on the freezing metal plate. Slowly they started working the strawberries into the vanilla mixture and chopped away at the strawberries and before you knew it the cream had hardened and turned into ice cream. They then flatten it and scrape it off the frozen plate creating rolls. From there they serve it up just how you asked and then its my favorite part... Time to eat it! The ice cream was perfectly velvety and flavorful and all the toppings really made it exceptional. I absolutely can't wait to come back for another visit! read more

Best way to celebrate the coming weekend is to have the shaved ice cream at I CE NY. I have been to a handful of similar places and among them, the best one is Snowday, so far. Better thing about I CE NY was that I could opt for a smaller size after my fulfilling dinner. Instead of getting the signature ones, I customized my ice cream (coconut milk with mango, gummy bear, mochi and strawberry sauce as toppings). Wish they could have more topping choices... I CE is relatively small (about four tables with seats and a bench along the wall, with a jar of selfie props lol), it's got some cute wall deco and is brightly lit, plus AC that keeps the place a comfortable (perfect for eating ice cream) temperature. I stopped by around 7:00PM for an after-dinner dessert and there was no line, I was greeted by the nicest employee. I must have looked overwhelmed by the menu because she informed me that there were recommendations on the opposite side of the menu if I couldn't decide on which ingredients to build my own. So unlike 10Below, here at I CE you have options. You can choose an ice cream base (vanilla, chocolate, green tea, Thai ice tea, etc.). Then you choose a mixer, an ingredient you want to be chopped up and mixed into your ice cream, this includes chocolates, cereals, fruits, snacks... and you get a topping which is added on top of your ice cream rolls. Last step is to choose a sauce, some of which are condensed milk, chocolate, strawberry. Four easy steps to building your perfect ice cream rolls! The whole process of me ordering my dessert, watching the guy make my dessert, and then me being handed my dessert was about 3 minutes. That's exactly 49 minutes less than my experience at 10Below. But the most important part is always the taste test... Comparing the two ice cream roll spots, I CE was, by a mile, way more delicious. I had corn flakes mixed into my matcha ice cream, topped with lychee. It also came with a sauce topping and whipped cream, I passed on both since I don't have a very sweet tooth. The ice cream was very creamy and there was a very generous portion of lychee topping and again the ice cream rolls were AMAZING, really great matcha green tea flavor and the chopped corn flakes gave it a texture I didn't even realize that I needed in my life. $5 for the regular size which was more than enough for me. I guess you really can't beat the original... I'm sure that Thai ice cream roll parlors will start popping up all over the city from now on but I CE will be my go-to. Can't beat the original! Came in here after seeing a post on Instagram (which you get a 20% discount for if you're one of the first 300 customers and hashtag it!) and I knew that I had to try it. I had heard of 10below, but I did not want to deal with those lines. I'm glad I decided to come here instead! No wait, the place was clean and cold. AND it's on a great location, not too far from the train and Washington Square Park. From the moment I walked in I knew I would like this place. Their menu allows you to be creative when making your smashed ice cream. It's also fun to watch them make it in front of you! First, you start off with an ice cream base. They have green tea, chocolate, vanilla and Thai iced tea. Next, you choose your mix ins, your toppings and a sauce that you want on top. I went for a vanilla mixed with banana and cornflakes and condensed milk on top. So yummy! I was expecting the ice cream to be soft and melt quickly, like I have heard of 10beow. However, it was a good consistency and I was able to enjoy all of it without it melting too much on me - and I'm a slow eater! Not sure if he was the owner/manager, but one of the employees came up to us and asked us how it was. He told us about how they had just opened up last Saturday and their history. He said that this place started it all back in Thailand, and made sure to tel us about the promo going on. The rest of the staff was friendly as well, and they let my boyfriend charge his phone behind the counter. The only con? Though we got the same size, it seemed that I got a little more ice cream than my boyfriend did. I'm not complaining, but someone else might. But hey - they're new so cut them some slack! One of the hottest dessert trends this year seems to be the Thai-style ice cream rolls. This dessert has debuted in three different shops throughout NYC: Juicy Spot, 10 Below, & I-CE NY. The owners of I-CE NY are supposedly the creators of the original hand-rolled ice cream in Thailand, aka 'I-TIM-PAD'. With over 250 franchised locations throughout Thailand, I decided to give this place a try and experience the originality of rolled ice cream. The process was entertaining to the eye. Workers will pour your ice cream base and mix-ins onto a cold plate, mixing and smashing until it starts to freeze. As the ice cream firms up, it's spread like a crepe and metal paddles are used to roll up the ice cream. Lastly, it gets topped off with sweets and fresh fruit. For about $6, I ordered myself the Thai iced-tea base mixed in with lychee, topped off with rambutan, chocolate wafers, and drizzled with condensed milk. The texture of this ice cream is firmer than your usual sundae cone. I was pleasantly surprised of how well infused the lychee was with the Thai iced-tea flavor. Meanwhile, the rambutan topping complemented perfectly with the concoction. I absolutely love Thai iced-tea so I would highly recommend this option if you do too. Finally, the creators of hand-rolled Thai -style "I-CE" Cream comes to NY. The day I went was only their 5th day in business in NY, and you can definitely tell! It was Germaphobe heaven. I ordered a medium sized vanilla ice cream with fruit loops as the mix-in, kit-kats as the topping and condensed milk as the sauce. The ice cream itself was a great texture, kind of like a taffy but it melted in your mouth, the fruit loops and kit-kats definitely added a great texture contrast, and the condensed milk was a no-brainer for me. Nothing against ice cream places that scoop their ice creams, but having your ice cream made the way these guys do it makes for a more entertaining experience. After we ate, the man who I believe is the manager, asked us about our experience and gave us a little information of the history of the business! The third thai roll ice cream addition to Manhattan, it's only before time that there will be just as many thai rolled ice cream parlors as there are gelato cafes and froyo spots. I was pretty excited to try this place since they offer thai iced tea as a flavor. I was even more pleasantly surprised when I saw rambutan on the menu! As always the best part (besides eating) is watching the show. They cranked it out pretty fast. The smashing took no more than 2 minutes? They offer medium and large sizes. The medium seemed a bit small compared to Juicy Spot, they're roughly the same price but I feel like Juicy Spot offers more toppings. Presentation could be a little more prettier. (Gotta make it Instagram sexy, na' mean?) Now the crucial test: the taste. 3 words - I'm a fan! It was creamy, smooth and milky! The thai iced tea flavor was definitely there, I liked that it wasn't too sweet. I had lychee as a mixer and it worked out pretty well. The rambutan toppings also complimented the taste. The condense milk drizzle was really light, most likely because there wasn't much of it but I didn't mind because the real star was the ice cream. Oh and did I mention there was no wait at all? And the place has only been open since last Saturday! (August 2, 2015) They're offering 20% off coupons for anyone who posts photos or videos on social media of the store or ice cream. I'm a big fan of this kind of ice cream since I tried it during my summer trip to Thailand last year. So, I'm glad that I can find this kind of ice cream in NYC. During my visit, I had a chance to talk to the owner and he claimed that his ice cream is original from Thailand. The ice cream itself is nothing too special, but watching them make it is where the fun is. The way they mix in the toppings reminds me of how they mix it at Coldstone, except this is better because they're mixing it on the anti-griddle so it doesn't melt. Both times I went, I chose the make your own. The first time I went with Matcha, Loacker, and Kit Kat. They don't give you much in terms of toppings, only a single bar of the Kit Kat and half a Loacker, but the Matcha was really creamy. The second time I chose chocolate, cornflakes, and chocolate wafers. The chocolate is also really sweet and rich, but I like the chocolate wafer and cornflakes combination. I think for some toppings you'll get more than others, but this was a good combination. Because it takes time to make each cup, you'll have to wait a bit if the lines are long. The space is tiny, so I would just take the cup and go. The make your own is about $6 a cup. I wouldn't come here often, but this is definitely a place to take your friends if they haven't seen the rolled ice cream being made before. read more

This was the first time I tried original Thai rolled ice cream and it was not a disappointment! The space is relatively tight and there are sometimes long lines. For those that are not familiar with the dessert or the strangely satisfying way it is made, Thai rolled ice cream involves a process of spreading a layer of ice cream base on a plate cooled down to -15 degrees F. The "rolled" part comes from how the ice cream is made by scraping the thin layer into rolls. The end product is a beautiful cup of rolled ice cream draped in toppings of your choice. The cashier was very friendly. The whole process of how the ice cream is prepared and eventually rolled into perfection is visible to customers (probably the second best part, the best part being the consumption of the ice cream). For $7, I got the coconut ice cream with mango and sticky rice, which was a great choice and is highly recommended. Overall, great stop and would come back again! read more

Personally I think it's kinda cool that I can choose my own ice cream with the mixers for different textures. There are many options so in the end, My friend asked the guy to choose for her. He recommended my friend "Cookie Spree" (vanilla and Oreo). It gave the taste of cookie and cream'ish ice cream but it's not too plain or too sweet. For me, I ordered my favorite flavor, which is green tea!!! I choose to mix with banana, lychee, blueberry. The texture was so smooth as what I like. The taste was not too sweet and I got the real green tea taste. The downside is that the shop is very small and the trash can is outside.
