You should know that the Yelp map is wrong about the location- IHOP is actually closer to the intersection of Blume and Klose, not near the lake. Wiga-da what?! Lake? What a shocker. Turns out there is a movie theater up there too! The more I explore in this area, the more I am surprised by the sprawl of the strip malls. Really well lit ones too. I digress. This IHOP worked out really well last night when we decided we needed pancakes for dinner, and that we didn't want to make them ourselves. I also needed access to count them 5 types of syrup. Because that's the kind of girl I am. Don't try to take my classy ass to some Denny's single flavor syrup kinda place. I just want to be taken care of. Our waiter Leon was shockingly on his game and nice. I say shockingly only because if it were me waiting tables at an IHOP on a Saturday night with a 10 top of screaming babys, a few tables of war vets, and some leering hipster types, then I'd be salty and never refill your water. But he was great. I left a big tip. It should also be noted that my childhood definition of IHOP was "Icky Hairless Old People," a mnemonic that still holds truer to me than the other assumption that lingonberry butter on 'crepes' somehow ups your international standing. While I find it completely useless to review a place such as IHop on here, my experience was so terrible at this location that I feel obliged to complain about it somewhere. After we were seated, it took us 45 minutes to even get our orders taken. Like, how does that even happen? We should have had our orders taken, food on the table, and us halfway done eating after 45 minutes inside a restaurant. But no, we were just left sitting there. Our drinks took more than forever to come out as well. All we had was three waters and an orange juice which takes less than a minute to prepare yet we didn't see our drinks for half an hour. The waiting area for people wanting to be seated got ignored for so long that the busboy started seating tables and placing dinnerware with his hands still covered in his plastic sanitary gloves. Highly sanitary there. I really don't know what everyone else is talking about when they say the service is good. Each waiter/waitress looked so dead eyed and unmotivated. Even the manager on duty looked the worst out of the bunch, with numerous 100-yard stares across the restaurant. The cushion I was sitting on was non-existent, and I just sunk into the booth when I first sat down. I pretty much had to sit in the middle of the booth cushion just so I wouldn't be 6 inches lower than where I should have normally been. All that being said though, they have awesome bacon here. Ok, ok. It's an IHOP. I didn't come here expecting a miracle, but I did come expecting a clean glass of water. Unfortunately, that's too much to ask. My water was drizzled with bubbles of grease... Yes GREASE! It looked disgusting! After a Saturday morning workout I needed a bite to eat. It was quite crowded at noon on Saturday, but that's to be expected. We didn't have an especially long wait, hence the additional star. What I ate: Cheeseburger- OK... Nothing to really discuss here. Buns, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. Meh. It is a mess back there in the kitchen.... They sat me next to the kitchen where I have a perfect view of the counter with all the food. It was constantly full of food in the window and the servers were just not quick enough to serve their customers. You had my server constantly tell at the other servers telling them to get your food out the window cause it's piling up. The food DOES NOT look like the picture at all... They are soooo messy and sloppy. My pancake was so tough I had to cut it with a knife and even then I was so tough. My eggs were so greasy and my bacon looked like it can straight from the oil to my plate. Gross Makes me want to never eat here again. read more

Very disappointing! I go to this iHop atleast twice a month. Their service is normally decent (depends on who is your waiter) and their food is good. But today I went in with 2 others at 2:28pm. As soon as we walked in, there was a gentleman patiently sitting there waiting to be helped. Looking on further into the dining areas, ihop were occupied with a FEW customers. Two (2) waiters/servers repeatedly looked at us and walked away, another woman in a blue apron also saw us and walked away. All three oth them looked at us atleast 3 different times. Neither 1 of them bothered to even ackonowledge our presence. They didn't smile, say hello or even tell us to wait just a second for us to be helped. They all looked, and walked away eventually to just talk to each other. 2:35Pm we were done standing around without any help from someone and decided to take our business to Mel's Diner instead. Went here the other day and was looking forward to some pancakes. We were seated and were NEVER spoken to for 15 minutes. The hostess never greeted us. Just said, "two?" and began walking looking back at us; expecting us to just know. Once seated, again, no one ever greeted us at the table. We were placed between two other couples so we knew there was a waiter here. As we waited for our server, we noticed there were plenty if staff. I just don't understand either the laziness or lack of organization here. Eventually we left very disappointed. I would have given higher stars if we were greeted like human beings, greeted at the table AND eaten the food. It's safe to say, I'm never going back here. read more

There were several parties in the foyer waiting to be seated and we were all approached by a barking server named Keenan. He hollered out "NEXT GUEST" not once, but three times in rapid succession. He startled all the waiting parties because we all forgot who was the "next guest". At the third rapid-fire "NEXTGUEST", I moved forward and said "me" - he again rapidfired "HOW MANY?" "HOW MANY?" "HOW MANY?" to which I responded "THREE!" As we were seated, he continued this manner of order queries to us in the same loud, bellowing tone. Keenan was so intent on his barrage of queries, he did not let any of us speak - "YOUNG LADY? EGGS?DRINK?TOAST? YOUNGMAN? EGGS? DRINK?TOAST?, ETC. Needless to say, Keenan ruined my morning meal. My family and I just busied ourselves with finishing the meal and hitting the road. Even for a Sunday morning, this IHOP was not that busy, nor had that many patrons waiting to warrant this type of reception by a server. To be treated by this person in this manner is not only inhospitable, but very unprofessional. I will most definitely not dine at this IHOP in the future, and will advise my family and friends in the Northern California Richmond area, of my experience. read more

It's a guy who picked it up and said they still have now, he wasn't sure when it's the last day, he said probability 16...... Met my friend for breakfast. We entered the lobby with another gentleman, so began the wait. My friend went and found an employee who said he would be there in a moment (5-minutes.) We then get escorted to our seats along with the other customer. So we sat and waited, and waited with a little more waiting. Lives up to my fairly modest expectations for this well-known chain. Wide selection of pancake and egg dishes, in large portions; plus a few sandwiches and, in the evening, a decent dinner menu, with some senior specials. Menus change frequently. We most often go there around noon on Sunday, their peak time, so of course we get what we deserve: typically, a wait of 15-30 minutes, and rather slow service once seated. Much less crowded at other times. Tried on our most recent visit: a merely okay Philly cheesesteak, and New York cheesecake pancakes, with good strawberry topping but little evidence of actual cheese. For a place that specializes in breakfast, their coffee is surprisingly mediocre. Even McDonald's pours better coffee these days. Anyway, I'm glad it's in the neighborhood, but I probably wouldn't go very far out of my way to visit them. read more

I came here on a Sunday evening. I was starving out of my mind, in a huge hurry, and seriously craving pancakes. Their tag is, "Come hungry. leave happy." My partner says, "Come hungry, leave fat." I say, "come hungry, leave hours later because their service is so freakin' slow." We were seated quickly because the restaurant was not too full. The server took a long time to come with water, then disappeared for a while. He finally came back to take out order. He disappeared again until he served us our dishes. Then he disappeared for the rest of the night. I know he still existed because I could see him across the room, but he magically never caught my eye or my waving arms. I went here on 12/30/15 with my best friend late night and service was terrible as usual. But on top of that my friend saw a roach walking on the floor by the kitchen. I got up to confirm and sure enough it was. So a Latino man came out to stomp on it and cleaned it up before I could take any photos. I asked for a number to corporate and I was asked by a few employees what did I see as if I didn't say it loud enough. Needless to say I won't EVER BE BACK. Pros: The manager/host is extremely friendly. Most of the staff are also pretty friendly so that's a plus. The food is good, it's your average bacon, eggs and sausage etc. It's hard to go wrong with this type of food. My favorite is the Spinach/Mushroom omelette. I like to add my own sides to it but I've ordered it twice already and it's been consistently delicious. Cons: The food takes a long time to be served. I understand that they are busy, but it takes a really long time to get your food after you order. The last couple of times I have gone, we waited an additional 40 minutes to get our food after our order was taken. I suppose the friendly staff makes up for the long wait time. read more

Service at this location has since improved from the last time I actually wrote a review. Keenan is definitely still the best but we've also found a new favorite - Eric! He's like a Keenan Jr, he's so great. Doesn't even have to write down your order! Prepare to wait during peak hours, it definitely gets pretty busy. Best...IHOP...ever... Every Sunday, this place has a Southern breakfast special that is very much worth going to. My little sister went to college in the Bay & I used to visit her in Richmond often. We'd hit this place up every Sunday because the southern food here was great. Hot links and pork chops were always my favorite. You'd never expect really good pork chops to come out of an IHOP kitchen, but these chunks of pork were awesome. The Sunday's are usually really crowded because of this, but its well worth the wait, in my opinion. I still remember the first time that my sis took me here. I've already reviewed an Ihop, and I am about to review another one. I don't know what this says about me. I'm giving this one the same number of stars as the Lombard St. location, but, even though it's the same restaurant, it's kind of like apples and oranges, here. There are many variables that should be taken into account when reviewing a place like this. The way the food tastes, the "ambiance", and the service all greatly depend on, most of all, what time of day it is, and how high/inebriated you are. When we got there, it was probably around 1am on a weeknight. the place was nearly empty. In fact, I think it may have been completely empty except for us, and a woman and an AC Transit driver fuckin DRY HUMPING IN THE CORNER. Not even just making out or anything, I mean, they were seriously goin at it, and they were in plain sight, so there is no way the staff could have not seen them. They could have very well been doin it over there, and no one said or did anything about it. ....Ok. On to the food. We ordered the appetizer sampler platter, which was just a basket full of assorted deep - fried things. The mozzarella sticks were amazing (although, how can you fuck up a mozzarelly stick, really) as were the onion rings. Every one of the dipping sauces were good, too. My double blueberry pancakes were every bit as good as they were at the Lombard St. location, too. As far as service goes, our waitress did make us wait a little, but once she came to us, she memorized every one of our orders, and the food was brought out in a relatively timely manner. (It's fucking 1am, there is kind of no excuse for slow service. Unless you're tired, I guess.) She wasn't that attentive, but, whatever.
