I've only just begun to frequent this gem. For the 2nd time I had their Sicilian square for lunch today. I also tried their sautéed spinach. I usually put some grated cheese and a little lemon, but forgot. Guess what! It didn't matter. It was perfecto! It even had a slightly roasted flavor to it. Their awesome sauce, just perfect crispy pizza crust? I've only just begun trying many other items, upon which I will report back to you all here. I can say one thing for use, there's a reason I'm not the only one that gave them a 5 star rating! I'm also from Brooklyn too, so I know Pizza! It's no wonder they are too! Best pizza around.. especially downtown. Everything is either Salad, Soup,Salad and Salad! Owner is very nice and always accommodates my company when I have emergency meetings. Never seen a place whip up 5-10 pizzas and catering size salads and desserts in less than an hour with delivery! I ordered delivery twice from here. The first time I discovered when I opened thebox that the box had taken a tumble on its way to my place, and the pizza inside looked the worse for it. The second time I ordered a pie with mushrooms and pepperoni. What I got was a room temperature pie which had clearly been made well before my order. The toppings were just thrown on top and never actually saw the inside of the oven. I'm a new Tribeca resident. If this is the best delivery pizza the neighborhood has, I'm screwed. read more

Pizza and food looked great. But we were disgusted that the employees were not wearing gloves and touching all sorts off 'stuff'. We think what was the owner seemed not to care. Later we checked with the NYC Department of Health are found health violation. Things like, - quoting from their report; "Potentially hazardous cold food, other than processed fish, not held at or below 41'F (5'C). NYCHC81.09(a)"... "Food has been inside the lowboy for more than 12 hours, as per operator's statement...and was observed holding foods at an ambient temperature...Food contact surface including food contact surfaces on equipment or utensils unclean. NYCHC 81.27(b)"... "Flooring improperly constructed or maintained in that tiled floor observed with 3 dead roaches, two behind the employee storage area & amp; one adjacent to the prep table, in the basement. I agree with Maya R. here that the slice trade is almost non-existent in Tribeca and I lament that fact too. So I was pleasantly surprised to find Il Mattone on the corner of Beach and Collister Streets. Nothing fancy, that's for sure, but they offer delicious pizza with a chewy crust, tangy tomato sauce, and gobs of mozzarella. One slice and a can of seltzer is a good mid-day snack. There are a few tables inside and, in the summer, a couple of tiny tables on the sidewalk too. I saw lots of pizzas to go on their way out the door. read more

Nice small shop with friendly people. I enjoyed my veggie lasagna and the portion size was pretty large. I have also had their pizza and it gets my seal of approval. A Sicilian slice was $3 I believe. The crust was only salty though but I feel like that was a fluke. I would definitely recommend this shop for lunch or for a quick dinner stop. Competent, unpretentious & cozy neighborhood pizza joint. If you want a quick bite at a sensible price, this is the place. Sometimes I order their pizza, but mostly I just come in for a slice or two. The dough is a bit sweeter than I'm used to, but I don't mind that. Their Margherita is especially good. It's a bit garlicky, which I enjoy. The employees are very friendly and helpful. It's a family-owned place, and even though they're relatively new to the neighborhood, there's something nice and old-fashioned about this place. read more

Delicious Italian and good price. Small place that we stumbled upon while walking. Garlic knots were soft and flavorful. Perfect garlic butter ratio. I went here and got 2 slices. I had the Sicilian slice and a mushroom slice. The Sicilian slice was AMAZING. Great sauce, very nice dough and the cheese and the sauce really complimented each other. The mushroom slice was still good but the cheese was a little too dry. Definitely will be coming back for the Sicilian slice. read more

In from out of town and had to eat pizza from New York. This place was highly recommended on yelp and not far from where we were staying. Ok, we just moved to TriBeCa from Chelsea and searching out a new group of go to places. Walked by on my way home, picked up a menu and ordered delivery. Had the il mattone salad, very good, fresh, crisp with the dressing on the side. Ordered a mozzarella, pepperoni, onion and pomodoro sauce pizza. Arrived hot, the crust was perfect, a good combination of chewy and crisp, not soggy. The best pizza I have had in NY. Thank you ! Can't wait to order again, this place rocks! read more

My husband works all over the city so he gets a chance to eat at his favorites as well as try new places. This has become one of his new favorites while working downtown. He comes home at least three times a week raving about their pizza. To be honest I have become disenchanted with Manhattan pizza. Being born and raised in Brooklyn (as is he) I'm a snob when it comes to pizza. After living in Manhattan for over 25 years, the few favorites pizza places we had either closed or changed so much that it's not worth the disappointment so while I gave up on pizza he hasn't. Anyway moving on, while I haven't had their pizza, last night he came home with his leftover lunch from Il Mattone which was lasagna. First, if what he brought home was leftover then I can't imagine how big the portion was when he started. There was still enough for two people. Second, it was so good that I may not put the time and energy into making my own anymore, and third, I told my husband he made me a believer again and this weekend we will take a ride downtown so I can try their pizza. I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Will let you know. Wish me luck. Oh and for the record, just because I can't hold my tongue, the picture that Catherine S. posted... that is not a mini cannoli!
