Service is incredibly slow. Every time I come here. The wait is amazing. I think I spend more in gas idle than when I order here. I got here at 6:11pm. Ordered 1 burger. When I reach the window it's 6:59pm. Had I known this would take 50 minutes I would not have come. Don't come here if you have a meeting. I wish they would ask people who order a lot to park outside and get out of the line. People have places to be. Awful customer service. Staff rushes you for your order and barely listens to you. They took my card at the drive through window, rush me there, never give me my credit card back till I realize the next morning. DOUBLE DOUBLE TROUBLE An isolated incident at an otherwise phenomenal chain. Perhaps I built these guys up too much in my head, but when I stopped by with LeAnn P for some late night burgers in Costa Mesa, I left feeling wholly unsatisfied. We noticed that this In-N-Out location is exclusively a drive-thru (no dining area inside) so naturally the stack of cars piles up at peak hours. Being that it was 8pm, a formidable line had formed and so we sat. And sat. And sat some more in our rental car as the queue inched along at a snail's pace. Eventually the friendly order taker -- not unlike the people that Portillos uses outside -- greets us and takes our order. Knowing the "super special" but not-so-secret 'secret' menu, I ordered the following-- 1 double double animal style with hot chillies 1 flying dutchman 1 regular with cheese fries The hot chilies on my double double were basically banana peppers with negligible heat, while the cheese on mine had congealed by the time we'd returned to the hotel room. I got WAY too excited when I asked for the 'flying dutchman', which is nothing more than two slices of cheese between two patties, no bun. Back in Dallas last year, I went to an In-N-Out with my dad and had probably the best burger of my life. This time around I was disappointed, not only by the taste of everything (neither hot nor fresh) but also by the speed of service: SLOW. We sat in that damn drive thru line for what felt like ages, at one point we just put the car in neutral. Prices are still cheaper than you'd expect and the employees still wear those adorable paper hats everybody loves. So despite this location bumming me out, I'm going to give In-N-Outs lots more chances in the future simply because I know how awesome their food CAN be. read more

I'm from Jersey and I didn't know what to expect. I haven't eaten fast food like Mcdonald's in 3 years but I knew I had to try an In-N-Out Burger while I'm in California. I walked up to the takeout window, and I was immediately taken back in time. All the workers had on cute uniforms and hats that reminded me of a 1950's style burger place. My server Jimmy was amazing! He was so excited and enthusiastic to take my order. Jimmy explained the menu to me and gave me pointers on how to order. I was really surprised how reasonable In-N-Out Burgers are. I had two complete burger orders with fries and a drink for $12 and change. I watched through the pickup window how every burger was made to order from scratch, and I watched how the girl put the potatoes in a cutting device and cut the french fries fresh and fried them.... I ordered the Single CHEESEBURGER " ANIMAL STYLE," this means that the burger has added fried onions, lettuce , tomatoes, grilled mustard and their special sauce. ( This is secret list, but everyone knows about it so it's really not so secret! There are 29 In-N-Out secret menu items.) I also ordered their FRESH CUT FRIES and I was told to order them well done... For my drink I ordered a PINK LEMONADE. My burger was delicious, and juicy. It wasn't greasy and the "ANIMAL STYLE " is definitely the way to go. The fresh lettuce and tomato with the fried onions, grilled mustard( yes, I said grilled mustard! It's cooked with the beef patty.) and special sauce kept me coming back for more. So much so as to me having to place a second order to go. The fries were very good. I kept mine simple , no cheese or special sauce or animal style but, just plain with a little salt. The pink lemonade was a great tasting too. Not too sweet and not to tart. This In-N Out Burger had only outdoor seating. It was nice I got to talk to some locals and find out more about this California Chain. I was very impressed how organized this place is. There are two rows for drive thru. It gets so busy that they have a girl stand in between the two drive thru rows with a smart tablet taking orders. I think it's great that you have so many options when ordering. THE PROTEIN BURGER means it's wrapped in lettuce and there's no bun. You can also get THE FLYING DUTCHMAN 2 patties and two pieces of cheese no buns. Speaking of buns. Their Toasted Buns are freshly baked using old-fashioned, slow-rising sponge dough. They only use Cheese Slices that are American cheese which is the real thing.Their Beef Patty is 100% pure American Beef. No additives, fillers or preservatives. The Onions are freshly sliced or grilled.The Lettuce is fresh, crispy and hand-leafed. TheirTomatoes are sliced from only the plumpest and juiciest. Last but not least the Spread is their own recipe, unchanged since 1948. They also make VANILLA, CHOCOLATE ,or STRAWBERRY MILK SHAKES. I don't remember it being bad before the plandemic but now I get home and burger and fries are overcooked and cold. The staff is nice enough but get organized and time the cooking process.. A good location. The issue is they only work with 1 grille. Hence the longer wait times. The issue I have is the entrance to the drive thru. Most of the cars enter from 19th street. Those of us that come from Anaheim street get to hear all the other cars from 19th complaining that we cut. There are no signs posted & each time I'm here I think "How does the city let them get away with blocking all this traffic" - but I justify it that everybody loves In n out so just keep it Hush. Quality food reasonable priced - Staff could be a little more organized and the drive thru order taker could do a better job at directing traffic into each of the 2 lanes. I often see people either not realizing there is 2 drive Thrus or that they want a specific side. Maybe have traffic control as well as order taker out there. It is quite the Cluster when both drive thrus are full and some Genius wants to exit the parking lot where the drive thru starts - again "in n out traffic control" would be able to help that issue. I guess I came at the wrong time but anyways when I showed up the drive thru line wasn't too bad so I decided to jump in it. Probably after 5 minutes of waiting there was a line behind me and people started getting impatient. I then noticed there were 2 lines but there was no organization from the guy working outside so the people were able to jump wherever they wanted. I just stayed in my original line since both lines were the same length at the time. Which I soon learned was a mistake. The other lane was actively moving while the one I was in was steady sitting still which makes zero sense but I'm not the manager so who am I to say anything. Anyways I finally get to the window to pay to for food and they hand it to my quite quickly. I ordered a double double animal style protein style and an animal fry. They handed me a regular burger. So I hand it back saying this is not what I ordered. I posted a picture of what they gave me because as you can see they literally threw that together they put both the slices of cheese together not even melted and I had a whole grilled onion on my original order which is missing here. Yelp review 2017: 102 I came here during lunch around 12 o'clock and have never seen a location so impractical not only for the consumer but also for the community the location care of blocks traffic so people I would tend to avoid this area during lunchtime because of the amount of cars the volume can't accommodate the driveway area for the drive-through. Luckily there was an employee taking orders outside, inside I did not go into to see if there's any eatery location it looks like drive-through almost as autumn even know if you can eat inside. Small parking lot to park your car and eat if you wanted to under the one or two shade areas with tables. This is interesting. Hopefully the food quality is good for such a high volume. I would not recommend this location it's impractical inconvenient and a little dangerous. On the left side which I was on for the drive-through, you have to physically get out of your car and order to be able to give your money to the cashier. If someone is disabled or unable to freely move out of their car that's a problem. I suspected there is no inside area to sit. Outside there is a walk up order area where you can walk up and order your food. On a positive note, the food is still good and delicious and the fries are fresh. What I recommend this area no! There are other in and out restaurant locations that are more accessible for everyone. read more

This has got to be the slowest in n out I have ever been to in my 30 years of life. If you know me I love in n out! But this is ridiculous! I've been in line for 30 minutes and still don't have my food. I can see inside the store and no one has any urgency or quickness in their work! I've always enjoyed seeing the employees working hard and loving every minute of their work. But at this location they obviously don't have a drive up counter or care about their performance. I lived in Costa Mesa my entire life and this is my favorite In-n-out location ever. Something about it is very nostalgic for me. Its always packed though which makes it one of the busiest locations they have. I see some of the reviews about messing up orders, I've never had an order messed up here in decades. I'm also not asking for things on the side and no this no that blah blah blah. I see people giving this place 1 star because they forgot to take something out or leave something on. LOL. So many people saying they won't come back to this location. GOOD. It'll make the lines not as long. The staff is friendly and they always exemplify what I see as In-N-Out customer service. I think this is one of the most friendly in n out locations. I had a really big order for them around 5pm, which is typically rush, and they were able to do the order in what felt like an instant. They were also incredibly informative in terms of what things I was allowed to have on the side and they were able to complete my request with incredible patience. I will definitely be returning here. Unfortunately I don't remember the names of the people that were helping me, but they were the women at the register.
