The vibe is fantastic here. The layout is spacious, not overcrowded with seats and tables, everything is nicely laid out. Excellent feng shui. The food is awesome and creative. It's an intimate setting with the chef who is clearly dedicated and passionate about the business. Food is just not good. Uni was not fresh and very bitter but they did return it. We saw another table get real wasabi so we wanted some for our fish and they gave us fake tube wasabi???!!! Sweet shrimp with persimmon just does not go. No flavor, no salt, no umami, just no flavor sliminess. At least put some smoked salt or yuzu kosho or anything. So glad a restaurant finally opened here after years of advertising a taco joint lol! The restaurant is a lot bigger than I thought. However, they have limited seating. Aside from the bar, which holds maybe 8 seats and another maybe 6- 2 top tables. We sat at the bar, the bar seats were pretty comfortable and it was nice to see staff working cooking at the bar. Staff was super friendly and able to make suggestions and limited modifications of the menu items. The edamame appetizer is unique and spectacular: it's spicy, pan fried and seasoned. The tempura appetizer is amazing, super crispy and not greasy or even got soggy after a while. We had a couple of hand rolls which were very good, uni with truffle oil, yellowtail belly and spicy tuna. We also had the cabbage gyudon, which staff recommended for our kids. The kids loved it and so did I. I hope they get their liquor license soon so we can try some sake (hopefully) with dinner. read more

I tried to eat here at 5:30pm on a Friday night as a walk-in. There were four empty tables and four empty bar seats but they told me the only time they could seat me was 8:45pm at a table that was basically in the bathroom. There is profound managerial incompetence here. I worked at a very busy high end restaurant and deeply understand seating timing. This place doesn't know the first thing about managing that and they will lose money as a result. And, in this market? They will eventually have to shut down because of basic understanding of seating paying customers, delivering food quickly, and gently moving the person along. read more

Will give a 3 star because the food was decent. Will talk more about that in a second. From the moment we walked in no one really acknowledged us, and we stood waiting to be seated and for someone to come up to us for at least 5+ minutes. Once we sat down it took a bit for our server to come back and take our order. Once our order was in, it took another 30 minutes or so before food actually started coming out. At first we just thought they were backed up, but a table was seated directly to our right 35-40 minutes into our dining experience, and we essentially received our food at the same time they did. Our water went unfilled for the majority of the meal, and there were only a few check ins to see how everything was. The least of the experience was one of our dishes being forgotten, and with the already slow service the experience felt extremely drawn out and long. The way the courses came out was a bit all over the place and to me personally felt like it didn't have a purposes and they were just bringing whatever they saw waiting in the window without understanding where and when it fits into the dining experience. For the food we ordered the following Crispy rice Tempura platter Uni sweet potato Oysters Tomato Salmon Mushroom Scallops Salmon belly handroll Uni handroll Scallop handroll Salmon skewer Scallop skewer Toro skewer Kurodai skewer The crispy rice was great, although there wasn't any actual crispy rice, the crunch was the seaweed wrap it was in. Tempura platter was very tasty. Not your traditional tempura more of a tuna tartare that you place on yummy leaves that are cooked in tempura batter. Sweet potato Uni was good. As someone who eats Uni frequently, it felt that it was missing something to bring it all together. But overall a great bite, my wife who does not eat Uni actually enjoyed this one and had a couple of bites. I feel as though the sweet potato washes out the Uni flavor a bit here and makes it almost unnoticeable. The oysters were nothing special. Just literally red wine vinegar with 2 pomegranate kernels, the vinegar overwhelmed any sweetness from the pomegranate, I was expecting a more complex taste in the palate but it was an ordinary oyster genuinely. Tomato salmon was good, although I am not sure how the tomato played into this dish, it was tasty. The mushroom hotate/ scallop was fresh and enjoyable. Again I am not sure how the mushrooms came into play here but it was refreshing. The salmon belly handroll had a bit of a fishy undertone. Not fully sure if it was the seaweed they were using or if it was the fish but my wife declined eating hers. But the dipping sauce they put out instead of soy sauce made it enjoyable for me. Uni handroll was okay, I like this a bit more than the Uni sweet potato as for some reason you could actually taste the Uni here, but I would not say that I was wowed with it. Scallop handroll was eaten by my wife with no complaints. The 4 Skewers were honestly just okay in my opinion. The best was the kurodai with the toro or scallop being a second for me. One piece of the toro I had melted in my mouth and the other had a fishy taste, but the one that melted in my mouth was amazing. Salmon was not worth getting in my opinion maybe too over cooked but the scallop one actually had a good blend of flavor and had a sear on top which was enjoyable. We did not go for dessert because the whole thing took close to two hours for us to get through, which would be okay if it was a tailored dinning experience that was meant to last this long, but it wasn't. When you walk in, there's no greeting or acknowledgment, leaving you standing there unsure of what to do while staff look on without saying anything. The food was just okay--not bad, but nothing particularly memorable--and the timing was slow, with each appetizer taking around 10-15 minutes to come out. You may think I'm wrong; maybe I might be a snob that prefers Camphor or Donna's or street tacos for a proper date experience, but you MAY find what you're about to read helpful- Like anybody, I could've visited on an off night... it happens. I will preface by saying I have been to many an amazing, mind-melting dining experience in LA, from very affordable food made with heart to upscale, unforgettable paycheck dinners... Ine was... mediocre, at best. Where do I start... Here's the good: the ambiance is nice, the food is surprisingly very inexpensive and great value for what you get, and the servers were VERY VERY VERY attentive... ahem. Here's the issue, I was on a date (which I noted in the reservation- I noted the requested bar seats, and that I felt this girl is unique and special; I mentioned that I deeply appreciated anything they could do if possible, because I wanted this to be a great experience- at the very least, I expected that my reservation at bare minimum would be honored as booked). As far as the dining experience, none of the food here was as hype as I had believed; I felt the service was generally pushy, and the aforementioned reservation I made was not honored at all. Hosts and servers here seemed to be aloof and generally unsure of what was going on. When I arrived, they just said the bar was pre-booked and unavailable for my reservation (why make a reservation then?), so we were placed at a corner table- okay, fine, it happens... We were unable to get through our conversation with the continuous barrage of service attempts and, "are you ready to order" pop-ups. To give you an idea there were TWO separate servers pushing to get the order in, and it was like they were on rotation. They were utterly tenacious, showing up; asking if we wanted to order more and the food that we ordered hadn't even been delivered yet. In retrospect, it feels like there were more moments with the server around than there were without. I was a little flustered... That being said, were my experience a standard, casual dining outing where I were trying to eat and leave expeditiously, I may have appreciated how committed they were to getting the orders in and getting us out of there. This is food for thought if that's something you appreciate. The food did come out quickly, but didn't objectively make up for the overall experience. It simply wasn't as mindblowing as I'd hoped. The Tuna Brioche was decent; it's literally tuna on white bread (think thin milk bread, more akin to wonder bread) with accoutrements... The crispy rice is not crispy rice at all- it's a hand roll (okayyy?), the oysters in terms of dressing were quite good, but didn't have the expected texture of standard oyster (to me, it felt more like biting into kidney, which was peculiar); we also got the tempura platter, which was rather bland and just okay... I've had better tempura at a cheap sushi spot in a strip mall. The tempura platter could use the spicy mayo that came with the hand roll- I will say the spicy mayo was BOMBBBB. Don't get me wrong, the food is more than edible here; presentation is nice, flavors leave a little to be desired, but hey, it's food. I just wouldn't recommend Ine for a date or special occasion. I would be open to going back under different circumstances- again, perhaps I caught them on an off night, who knows? Overall, if a friend asked me at this point, I would tell them in earnest that there are dozens of more impressive Izakaya in LA. read more

We like to support local businesses and we have a large family that enjoys this type of cuisine. Having just given birth to another baby, takeout is easier right now. It was odd that the restaurant wasn't taking online orders. When we called, it went directly to an iPhone screening (unprofessional for a business, not a direct line). We went over to see if the place was closed or if we could place a to go order in person. The staff member said they were short staffed so they couldn't take to go orders. This restaurant offers elevated takes on sushiya and izakaya favorites. Each dish is intentionally presented and has delicate, rich flavors. The Ine ramen was a big hit with deep notes of dashi and sea bream. The sashimi is served carpaccio style, with small capers to break up the fish flavor. Great technique. The tempura was a showstopper. None of the nori was soggy - great crisp and smoky flavors. The server went out of her way to make me a hot matcha tea. It's an intimate and cozy restaurant that makes you feel like you're actually in Japan and not a california roll factory. I don't know their backstory, but it feels like a family operation and it's only a matter of time before they blow up and you won't get in. So go NOW!
