Upon walking in we were greeted by extremely friendly Alex. We were also offered their complimentary bread with Peruvian sauce (normally would be too spicy, but I handled it). They were ready to take order for us but unfortunately we are not Peruvian cuisine experts so we had to ask for some recommendations (other than what we saw from Yelp). He suggested the Lomo Salgato and tamarins verdes con pol I think I met the owner. I can't remember how we got to talking but she made recommendations we ended up loving! The Pisco Sour consisted of pisco, lime juice, and pasteurized egg whites, blended with ice - we happened to come on a Thursday (happy hour for $9)! She suggested substituting lime with passion fruit and so we did. It was 5/5!!! I want that to be my go-to drink from now on. So refreshing! She said it was a signature Peruvian drink. The meat on my beef saltado could use a little more quantity on my plate instead of more fries. The highlight of meal was the bistec and fried rice. It truly is authentic and so good. Please keep in mind I am not Peruvian expert by any means- so if you're looking for a review on authentic food, unfortunately, I cannot provide that. However, for my first time trying Peruvian food I was very impressed with this place! The two owners were the sweetest, and sat our large party quickly outside. They served us with warmth, grace and humor. The outside seating was beautiful, and they have heaters and aesthetic lighting provided. Every single plate we ordered was delicious, and I felt the portion sizes were more than fair. When it comes to desserts, I highly recommend the flan. I'm not even a flan type of person typically and this was delicious. Please be aware that the sauce provided with the bread is spicy, it's not an avocado cream sauce like I had assumed. Haven been going to Inka Mama's for years now, used to visit their Santa Ana location close to the South Coast plaza. But since they opened up a location in Tustin, have been a regular here. Hubby and i are happy there's a Peruvian restaurant in Tustin! We have tasted Peruvian food in Palm Desert as well as Portland, OR. We were too late for the Lunch Specials on our first visit. The complimentary bread slices and spicy Aji Verde sauce were a nice starter. Hubby chose Lomo Saltado that he's enjoyed in the past. I selected the Chicken Inka Special. The yellow chili/garlic sauce was tasty and not overly spicy. The next time, we came for dinner. I got a beef empanada and a spinach/mozzarella empanada. They came with a nice chili lime dipping sauce. I tried the Maracuya Peruvian drink, which features passion fruit. Hubby added Aguadito soup to his Lomo Saltado dinner. Hubby thinks the price is a little high for the portion sizes, but I did not think they were excessive. Our server was pleasant, and she answered our questions about the food and their other 4 locations readily. This restaurant is small, but compact. This is the comparison of a $20 foodja order from another restaurant. I am genuinely disappointed that there is ZERO effort put into this. I will be telling my company to take this restaurant off the list. Now I know why 58 out of the 60 employees chose something else. What an absolute waste of $20. It's enough to feed a small child. We went here for my birthday earlier today and I am honestly a bit disappointed. I love inka mama's but this new location was a bit of a downer. The aji sauce was a bit watery. The bread was normal. My issue comes with asking for some room temperature water and not getting it until asking for it two more times. My go to dish is shrimp saltado, and this was just okay. I don't know how to explain it but saying it was fresh but not. The rice seemed a little old. The dish was missing that greatness I am used to. I also seemed rushed. They brought the check as we were eating even though there wasn't a rush inside. Then they picked up plates with bread and sauce even though it was still being eaten. Not sure why they wanted us out. Tonight we dined in Tustin. Started with Happy Hour Menu Monday $4 for One Empanada $4 Beer on TapTonight Then we tried something new. The lamb was so tender and fell right off the bone. Mamas scampi with shrimp is my favorite. Definitely a kick of spice. I eat plentiful of bread and green secret sauce, that I end up with lunch for tomorrow. I came here with coworkers for lunch on a day I was craving Peruvian food. This is a great restaurant from the art of the walls to the great food. Of course I did the llomo saltado. They do the plate really good here. The green sauce makes it all the better! Don't forget to order yourself a inka cola to go with your meal. I lived in Tustin four years ago and imagine my surprise when I went back to visit and found this new restaurant there! I love Peruvian food but unfortunately have been disappointed several times. Not today, this place was outstanding and their seafood Saltado was perfect! Their empanadas were excellent too, we tried one of each, chicken and beef. Our server was so friendly, I think she may have been one of the owners because when I said I was so happy they had opened, she said it took a while because of all the paperwork and red tape. Decided to try this spot my dad found. The ambiance is nice, simple inside with an outdoor patio and lovely music. Prices are a bit high with some of the dishes. We were provided with a basket of bread, the aji was delicious with a real nice kick. We ordered the fish ceviche, one of my favorites. Sadly, I wasn't too impressed, it was $30 and made with halibut which gave it more of a fishy taste. My dad and I ordered the Cabrito Norteño, I absolutely loved it. The meat was tender, juicy and just the right seasonings, served with rice and beans. Delicious!! The Chicha morada was refreshing. The service was great, the staff very friendly and with a sense of humor. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner and if I'm in the area again, I may give it another go. read more

On Saturday, we drove out for boba (next door) and realized Inka Mama's was finally open! Yay! We walked over and only had to wait 20 min (because we requested inside). This location is finally open! Clean and spacious, decent size dinning room and several tables on the patio. Came on a Wednesday night and it was very busy. Our server was very nice and the manager had great recommendations, like the lamb dish in a stew sauce was delicious! The rice and beans were a little bland for me but the rest of the dish made up for it. We also order the mix appetizer. It was a lot of food for just the two of us but it was worth it. Their version on "fried chicken" was very flavorful, along with the pickled onions. Can never go wrong with an empanada and their tamales were moist and filled with plenty of chicken. The lomo saltado had A LOT of onions, which was a bummer for my husband but he still enjoyed it. Will definitely come back to try more options from their menu! read more

Inka Mama's Tustin location doesn't disappoint! Our second visit to this restaurant chain in a week (the first was to the Santa Ana location). The Tustin site is clean and crisp with traditional Peruvian flair. The cerbiche was delicious as always and we drank every drop of the leche de tigre. :) The waiter was surprised lol. Food was amazing and delicious! I especially enjoyed the flavor of the saltados and the calamari. The crunch of the calamari paired well with the sourness of the sauce and tang of the onions. Highly recommend this as your appetizer. The saltados had great flavor! The onions, sauce, and fries were great. I would say, if you order beef as your protein, it may be on the tougher side. I was immediately greeted by Francesca, a super friendly hostess. He also gave me a basket of slices of bread, accompanied by aji sauce. Francesca then shared a bit of history of the Japanese and Italian food influence in their Peruvian cuisines. Tucked in this small plaza of old town Tustin is another Inka Mamas! I've had this chain in other locations but happy to have one nearby. It's small but cute and clean inside. I can see parking could be a challenge if it were to be busier but didn't have any trouble on a weekend night. Ordered some staples the arroz con mariscos (seafood rice dish similar to paella) and a pasta verde with bistec (I think it's a spinach based green sauce? With cheese and spaghetti. And a fried think steak) Flavor was really good and of course they bring bread and that spicy delicious sauce for the table. Bread wasn't warm sadly but that's okay. Arroz con mariscos was cooked perfectly and the pickled onions are a refreshing must with the rice. I was a bit disappointed in my fried steak. It wasn't crunchy but oily so didn't taste very fresh unfortunately. Pasta was great, it's one of my favorites. Simple but hits the spot. It's very filling so do share. Service was good and tables were roomy and comfortable. I'll be back but maybe have to choose something not deep fried. read more

This was my first time eating Peruvian food, so I'm sharing my experience based upon my taste buds and the ambiance. Overall, I give my experience a 3/5 as average because there were drinks from the servers on the bar by the new beer taps( not being used yet). The food was bitter and the rice was dry. I won't be going back. Best of luck with your new restaurant. I hope the Peruvian music is added and the servers avoid putting their personal drinks from Starbucks on top of the bar next to the beer taps. They had "happy hour" deals for empanadas and a pico sour (not pictured) which were both flavorful and decent deal. The pasta verde was delicious! I had it with steak and my wife with chicken. I really wanted to like this place after waiting a long time for it to open. I've been twice, and both times were a disappointment. I probably won't be back. When I visited the first time a couple of days after their opening, I ordered my usual - beef Lomo Saltado priced at $18.00. It was underwhelming. For example, it would have benefited from more sauce and more tomato. The plate had just one small wedge of tomato, for instance. When I visited the second time a few weeks later, I was persuaded to order the beef Lomo Saltado lunch special priced at $14.95, which was even more disappointing than my first try: - It appeared to be a bargain, but it wasn't. The portion size was considerably smaller than the regular priced Lomo Saltado, although it did come with a cup of forgettable chicken based soup. - Here again, the plate had just one small wedge of tomato. - The beef tasted overcooked, and it was tough. - The plate had an odd taste that is difficult for me to describe. The best description I can come up with is burnt. - The fries were not worth eating. I've had markedly better Lomo Saltado at various other places. When the server asked me whether everything is OK, I told her the food wasn't very good and why. She gamely offered to have an another plate prepared, but I declined. I doubted that a second plate would come out any better, and I wasn't willing to sit around for another ten to fifteen minutes for a second plate to come out. I try to be fair when I write a review. On the plus side of things: - The inside dining area is casual, roomy and pleasant. - The service was friendly and on the ball both times. I have no complaints about the service. Food was decent, but this place isn't very customer service friendly. I placed an order online and showed up at the restaurant to check in with the hostess on the status of my order. She told me they were working on it. 20 minutes went by as I sat with my 3 year old (felt like forever) trying to keep him calm while we waited. She came back over to apologize that they never received my order and proceeded to tell me they don't accept order from Yelp/Grubhub. I had to ask if I could just get my order in and how quickly they could get that out since she didn't offer. The manager came over to speak with me about the issue. He reiterated what the waitress told me about not accepting Yelp/Grubhub orders and they didn't know why they sent me a confirmation. I made a few suggestions of actions he could take to remedy the situation for future issues, but I was met with an unreceptive attitude. The manager never took any info on the order confirmation etc. to follow up so guessing the next person who orders through Yelp/Grubhub will experience the same. Good luck to yall read more

Came here 2 weeks ago. The long wait is over! Am sure a lot of Tustin residents are happy to see that they are finally open. Great service and delicious Chaufa Combinado (generous portion) which is basically Combination Fried Rice Peruvian Style. I personally prefer Chaufa Mariscos (seafood) but the Combinado was not a bad option. They serve complimentary bread with their special green sauce. read more

Como buen peruano, me siento orgulloso de nuestra gastronomía por su variedad de sabores y porque cada plato nos conecta con nuestras raíces. Me alegra que existan restaurantes peruanos en la zona, pues siempre es motivo de emoción poder recordar los sabores de mi tierra. He visitado Inka Mama's en Tustin en tres ocasiones, dándole siempre el beneficio de la duda, pero lamentablemente en mi última visita terminé muy decepcionado. No quiero que esto se entienda como una crítica destructiva, al contrario, mi intención es que lo tomen como una oportunidad de mejora, porque si la experiencia cambia, con gusto volvería. En mi última visita pedí dos platos que me dejaron bastante insatisfecho: Ceviche: desde la presentación ya llamó la atención que lo acompañaran con papa sancochada en rodajas y mucho jugo que parecia mas una sopa y la canchita nadaba en esa sopa. Al probarlo, el exceso de ácido cítrico opacaba los sabores y el limón usado estaba amargo, lo que arruinó el jugo, que es la esencia de un buen ceviche. Además, el exceso de condimentos hizo que no pudiera disfrutarlo y terminé devolviéndolo. Eso sí, debo reconocer la amabilidad del camarero, quien me indicó que no me lo cobrarían, lo cual fue un buen gesto. Cabrito a la norteña: aunque el plato lucía bien, al probarlo me encontré con una preparación que no reflejaba el sabor característico del cabrito a la norteña que conocemos en Perú. Más bien parecía un guiso con cebolla y pasta de tomate, lo que terminó predominando demasiado. El frejolito estuvo sabroso, pero el cabrito en sí no cumplió mis expectativas, al punto de que no pude terminarlo. Reconozco que otros clientes en el local parecían disfrutar sus comidas, lo cual me alegra, pero en mi caso ha sido la tercera vez que salgo decepcionado. Ojalá puedan mejorar la autenticidad y el balance de sabores de sus platos, porque la cocina peruana merece brillar tal como es. Si eso sucede, sin duda volvería con entusiasmo.
