The greeting when we walked in was great, and the space itself has a nice vibe, but the experience just didn't come together the way I hoped. Our server was friendly enough, but the service felt... odd. At one point he handed me the butter knife and said, "The women always get the butter knife." I still don't know what that was supposed to mean. Is that my job now? It was so strange that it's actually become an inside joke every time we go out to dinner. The smoke inside the restaurant was intense -- not a light, cozy hint of smoke, but full‑on campfire levels. I left with a headache and smelling like I'd spent the night tending a bonfire. It really took away from the meal. Food-wise, it was hit‑and‑miss. - The garlic bread was genuinely great -- warm, flavorful, and probably the highlight of the meal. - The soup, though, was grainy and just not enjoyable. - My chicken dish was underwhelming, especially for the price. It was mostly dark meat, which I wasn't expecting, and the flavors didn't really stand out. On the positive side, the drinks were great, and if I were rating the bar alone, this would be a very different review. But overall, between the smoke, the awkward service moments, and the uneven food, I don't think we'll be back. read more

I had high hopes for Interlude because we were told it is the sister restaurant to Zinfandel Grille in Fair Oaks, a restaurant my family has enjoyed for decades for special occasions. Naturally, I expected a similar level of service and dining experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere is definitely one of its strengths. Our server was friendly and attentive, although at times came across as somewhat rushed and aggressive when setting utensils and plates on the table. We started with the blackened prawns and beet salad. The prawns were prepared well, and the beet salad was very good. Unfortunately, the timing of the meal became an issue. When ordering, we specifically requested two things, that the courses be paced so we could enjoy each one before the next arrived, and that the steak be cooked "well done" with absolutely no pink due to a stomach condition. Despite that request, our prime steak arrived before we had finished the salad and was already cooling by the time we got to it. More disappointing was the steak itself. Nearly half of it was pink in the center, despite our request for well done. The outside was well cooked, but a significant portion of the cut was fat, making the value difficult to justify given the price. My husband and I were sharing the meal, so the issue was especially noticeable. To the restaurant's credit, the server apologized and offered a complimentary dessert and another beer for my husband. While appreciated, it did not fully make up for the overall experience. There were also a few details that took away from what should have been a higher-end dining experience. The appetizer plate arrived dirty and had to be replaced. Another staff member who cleared our table dropped the steak fat onto the table while removing plates. Additionally, frequent coughing by the same waiter left an unfavorable impression. What was most disappointing was that we were celebrating my birthday, which had been noted on the reservation, yet it was never acknowledged in any way. While not required, recognition of special occasions is something many restaurants of this caliber typically do, especially when it has been communicated in advance. Overall, Interlude has a beautiful setting and some promising menu items, but based on this visit, it did not deliver the polished dining experience I was expecting. I truly wanted another upscale restaurant in Elk Grove that could become a go-to destination for celebrations, but this visit left us underwhelmed. Update: Thank you for your response. While I appreciate the $20 redemption certificate offered after our $135 birthday dinner, I was surprised that this was the resolution provided given the overall experience. Adding to my disappointment, I experienced significant gastrointestinal distress the following morning. While I cannot say with certainty what caused it, it certainly did not leave me feeling any better about the meal or the experience as a whole. I had much higher expectations based on Interlude's association with Zinfandel Grille and was hoping for a more meaningful acknowledgment of the concerns outlined in my original review. read more

Tried Interlude Kitchen for the first time and overall had a good experience. The atmosphere was nice and inviting, and the service was friendly, though it could've used a bit more attentiveness throughout the meal. I ordered a glass of wine, but at $25, the pour felt pretty light--around 3-4 oz at most--which was a bit disappointing for the price, I'll skip that next time. For dinner, I had the steak cooked medium, and it came out just right. The portion of meat was solid, and I swapped the side for mashed potatoes. The potatoes were on the smaller side, but they were flavorful and well done. Dessert was a chocolate mousse with an Americano, both of which were enjoyable and a nice way to finish the meal. I would definitely go back, but I'd probably skip the wine/alcohol next time. For the price, it either needs a more generous pour or a lower cost. I truly enjoyed my experience at the restaurant. My husband had to drag me here (kicking and screaming) I regret it took me so long. We missed the soft opening. Ambiance the restaurant is a lot brighter than Macaroni Grill. They left the stonework. You can smell the aroma of the wood stoked ovens. The sightline flows to the back of the restaurant. Surprisingly, the noise level is fine. Low back seating heights allow sight lines to the kitchen and food preparation areas. The bar is in the same location at the front of the restaurant. All in all (A+) on the renovation with a 5-star rating Parking Parking is a little busy since the restaurant is part of a mall strip. They won't runout of parking it's just a busy mall strip off of a busy street. Close to the Highway and local businesses. Service Staff greet patrons at the door and engage in offering a positive experience for all throughout dinner. They assist servers and work as a team to meet each diner's needs. Servers seem nice. They definitely do not try to rush the experience. Our server was extremely patient and kind. At the end of our meal, it did seem like there was less attention to the needs of the table but in an acceptable range. 5-stars for service Dinner We ordered the special Cioppino dish, The roasted chicken, and 2 pork chop dinners. All four diners were completely satisfied with their meals. We also ate 4 servings of the sourdough bread. Libations - we enjoyed 2 old fashions and 1 red wine. The old fashion was simply delicious. Dinner 5-Stars Post Dining My only complaint comes from disappointment. I cried when I arrived home. I cried because my favorite part of my meal was missing. I was devasted. I called the restaurant. My wife and I went for dinner last night. Our server Rodil was very professional and had a thick Latin accent which added to the ambience. Started with house cocktails that were underwhelming, then ordered our favorites, a Cubalibre, and a Mojito that were outstanding. We ordered salads, I had the Caesar and she got the spinach. Both were unique, fresh and dressed to perfection. Main course I ordered chicken Parmesan and my wife had the bucatini carbonara both exceeded expectations. It's great to finally have an upscale dining option in Elk Grove. Elk Grove has plenty of good mid-range spots, but not many places for a more refined meal. That's why I was happy to try Intelude. My wife and I started with the Brussels sprouts, garlic bread, and shrimp, then had the lamb and pork chop for our main courses. Everything was good, especially the bread and lamb. The cocktails stood out too, which is something Elk Grove has been missing. I think their bar would be a great spot for happy hour. My husband and I went there for a date night last night, 1/17/26. Our server was attentive though she didn't sound very confident in the gluten free options. What was most concerning was the pasta plate my husband ordered - he found a tiny long skinny piece of metal while he was chewing a bite (similar to a bristle on those metal bbq bristle brushes). We have a friend who works at Kaiser and said he gets people in there with those metal pieces causing major issues. We told an employee and they said they would take that entree off our bill. We appreciated not to have to pay for that entree but the experience did ruin our date night (which we had to pay a babysitter for). I didn't feel like they went above and beyond / understand that was a huge health concern. Because of this, we won't be going back. read more

We enjoyed every part of our visit. The ambience, the service, the DELICIOUS food. We will definitely be back. Was it pricy? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely! We ordered two apps, the bread and the blackened shrimp. Both very tasty. My hubby had the ribeye which was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. I ordered the pork chop (which I never order, but thought why not, I'll bet it's good) and it was phenomenal. All of the sides were well thought out and perfectly prepared. Happy to see a nice restaurant in Elk Grove. But if I could give 3.5 stars I would. The inside is beautiful and looks high end! But, Walking into the restaurant it's smoky and has an overpowering fire wood smell. I left with my clothing and hair smelling like charcoal bbq. The appetizers were okay. Calamari was undercooked. The prime rib bruschetta was very tasty. We also waited 15 minutes in the bar area before anyone greeted us. We almost walked out. Other customers that arrived after us were greeted and even served water. Our server did apologize but I was already frustrated at that point. I know the restaurant just opened but they have another restaurant downtown. Improving the air ventilation will hopefully make this a better dinning experience. The food was delicious! We started off with the Prime Rib Bruschetta and Yellow Beet Carpaccio. Hubby had the Wood Grilled Prime Rib and I had the Dixon Ranch T-Bones (Lamb Chops). Service was a tad slow, but on the 3rd day of "Soft opening" not a huge deal. Ambiance was great. You could carry-on a conversation without interruption. I'm excited that this caliber of restaurant has come to Elk Grove. I've been fortunate to have dined at the Blue Fox in San Francisco before it closed and Chez Panisse in Berkeley. Both provided impeccable food and service. I look forward to returning Interlude Kitchen and Bar to see how it flourishes. read more

Interlude has been open for just over 3 months. The restaurant is beautiful. The layout and atmosphere is very nice. The service was excellent. They definitely need to work on their menu. The salads were very good but simple. The entrees were good. What was a big disappointment was the Brie toast. The toast was so hard that you could not cut it. And when you took a bite, you couldn't chew it easily. For what they charged, I would change the bread. Overall, Elk Grove needed a high end restaurant and Interlude feels that spot. read more

Service was quick and the waiters kept checking on our table. As for the ambiance, we were sat in a corner that was pretty dim and the restaurant had a bothering smoky smell. My husband and I walked in for dinner on Saturday night around 6 PM and we were seated right away. Our server was wonderful and super attentive. We ended up getting the prawns and artichoke as appetizers and both were excellent. We also got the summer salad special which was so good! We split the salad between the two of us and it was a great size, more than enough for two people. We got the pork chop and New York as entrees and both were delicious! Beau gave good recommendations throughout the meal and made us feel very welcome. Had a great experience at Interlude Kitchen & Bar. The food was really good from start to finish. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, tender, flavorful, and exactly how it should be. The appetizers were amazing; we had the bread, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes, and every bite was on point. The risotto was especially impressive it was rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. We went to Interlude for dinner and sat at the bar. The staff and bartender were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and the food itself was seasoned well. That said, there were a couple things that affected the experience. The restaurant had a very strong smoke/BBQ smell that lingered on our clothes, handbags, shoes, and hair well after we left. I'm not sure if this is a regular issue or something specific to the night we visited, but it was noticeable enough to impact the overall experience. We also felt the pricing didn't fully match the quality of the meat being served. The ribeye was listed as prime and priced accordingly, but it didn't quite meet the expectations that come with that designation and price point. While the preparation and seasoning were good, the cut itself felt underwhelming for what was being charged. Overall, this is a new restaurant in Elk Grove with friendly service and good flavors, and we truly hope it succeeds. With some attention to ventilation and better alignment between pricing and product quality, it could become a great local spot. read more
