I usually go to the Fremont location and have had good experiences there so it was really disappointing to have a bad one here in their newest location. I went early on a Saturday evening with a group of 7. We got seated quickly. Beware, groups of 5 or more are hit with a mandatory service charge. 18% for 5-6, 20% for 7-20, and 22% for 30 or more guests (see picture). I know it's customary for restaurants to levy a mandatory charge for big groups but they usually make us aware of it. The hostess or wait staff did not make us aware of this mandatory charge. 12 minutes passed after being seated and no one had approached us to take our order or give us water. We had to flag down a passing waitress to let her know we were ready to order. Apparently, tables are not assigned a dedicated waiter/waitress. From what I could see there was only 4 available wait staff for the whole restaurant; not enough for a busy Saturday night. Whenever we needed anything we had to flag down a passing waiter/waitress. They were doing their best, but they were clearly overwhelmed. We ordered some pancit and the Sulit Bilao # 3 which is a huge platter costing over $129; to our surprise it didn't come with any bagoong. We had to flag down the waitress again and ask for some and we were shocked when she said she could only give us 1; any more would have to be charged. I said that's fine but didn't realize each container was tiny; and each extra one cost $2! (see picture). For ordering a platter this size, I think that's very stingy. The food was ok. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and did their best. I cannot in good faith recommend this place until they get their staffing level and processes in order.

We came here to eat as a family of 10. Eight of us did the buffet and two of us ordered from the menu. The food was good, service was friendly but they didn't come around very often. No one cleared the buffet plates so they sat piled high on our table which I didn't like very much. Mandatory service charge for our party was 20%. I feel the buffet is a bit overpriced, it is $45 per person. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is very big, lots of seating areas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After eating it did take quite a while for them to bring us our check and then another long while to collect our credit card. Overall our visit was good but I'd probably just order from the menu if we visit again. The menu does have more options then the buffet.

My friend and I came here for lunch and I already can't wait to come back! Our waiter gave us some recommendation and we decided to listen: *Litsun Kawali (pork belly) - the pork belly was perfectly crispy and tender! *TNT prawns - this was delicious! Definitely don't do this on a first date as it gets messy, but man were the shrimp and the sauce delicious! The food was delicious and I'd highly highly recommend.

I really liked the food because it wasn't too oily or salty which is sometimes prevalent in many Filipino food. The portions were a bit smaller than I expected and their beef nilaga should've had more flavor. Their isla chicken was disappointing. The service was decent as we got the appetizers in a good time. First time here and we got Eventbrite tickets to see The Jets as it was more intimate seeing them at a restaurant where we could buy food and drink and get a VIP Photo Opportunity, plus free parking in the lot! Once we checked in with the front desk, we whisked to our table after searching for the numbers on the tables which some were not visible. There is a QR code at the table to look at the menu but our server didn't hand us menus right away. It was a flurry of excitement and after looking at the menu which has so many choices, we decided to have Pancit Palabuk and Pancit Canton as well as lumpia. The food was plentiful and tasty. The opening act of the show was a-ok but one of the singers sang a bit loud. However, The Jets made up for it and sang some of our favorite songs, acoustic was great and we sat in one of the front tables. Service was attentive initially but later it got busy and it was hard to get the server's attention. Next time we come, we better look at the menu ahead of time to try something new as they have an extensive menu.

This place is huge. You would never know it from the outside, and it didn't feel like the best neighborhood. There were some interesting characters outside, including a dude trying to clean my windshield. Oh well. Walked in and specifically went on this Saturday so I can see a live band. And boy was it amazing. First the eats. I opted to sit in the bar area where the music was blaring. In hindsight, it might have been a little too loud for the kiddos to enjoy their food. We ordered the standard stuff. The food was just ok. I was unimpressed by the pakbet, it was way too oily for my taste. And the lumpia was burnt and overpriced for what came out. The other location in Newark is leaps and bounds better in terms of food. But we came for the music. And boy it didn't disappoint. The stage was perfect, the layout was nice, and the energy was great. I love live music and sipping on some San Migs. Chatting with some of my peeps from the P.I. It was great. I'll def be back for the vibes.

Okay Isla, as a pinay you do quench that Filipino food craving! Isla has it all - tasty authentic food that hits, super spacious dining and entertainment rooms, friendly attentive service and an authentic fam vibe from a ton of Filipinos dining there. Also they give unlimited rice! Some faves: - crispy pata - chicken inasal - beef nilaga - bangus sisig - kare kare - pinakbet Docked a star due to some of the items being a tad too salty like the pancits. Hope they can work on that!

If you need that quick fix but don't want to buy the ingredients for a full family dinner, then Isla is for you! The food is pricey, especially when the portions are so small. That said, I would still come here again for the dishes that we don't already cook at home that often, namely sisig, puso ng saging, and kare kare. We tried all of these today and they were all pretty good! The pusong saging was vinegary and I loved that. The kare kare was probably made with smooth peanut butter (so no whole peanuts, which is how my family makes it) but that's not a deal breaker for me. The sisig tasted how I expect sisig to taste like. No calamansi tho, which was a bummer. They did have a lemon instead. The white rice is unlimited as long as you bought entrees, but they have specialty rices as well. Isla is a Kapampangan establishment, whoch is a specific region in the Philippines. I'm a kapampangan, so this menu is typical at my home. It gets busy here on the weekends but not so much during weekday lunches, in my experience.

Party of 2 went on a Saturday at around 2pm. Had to wait a couple of minutes by the door as there was no hostess in sight. We were told to wait a couple of minutes for a table but it took more like 5 minutes. At least our order was taken promptly and the food came out after about 10 minutes. We ordered sisig, pig ears, and sinigang na boneless bangus, rice is free and unlimited. Everything tasted amazing (as expected). I wanted to order dessert but it was so hard to flag down staff. It took us another 10 minutes just for the bill. The place is great for huge groups. They also have function areas for private events. They have live bands some evenings (but I haven't attended). I deducted a star because there's always nobody around to seat us. I saw a Caucasian couple walk in, wait for a couple of minutes, then leave. They missed out on great food but who can blame them for leaving? It would have been better if someone at least acknowledged their presence and asked them to wait a few minutes. Anyway, we will still return and maybe try their other dishes.

We were in the area, looking for something to eat for dinner. Being Filipino, and craving some Filipino food, we found Isla Grand, solely by accident. We rolled up on this hidden gem! My beautiful wife and I were surprised how spacious it was and very, very ADA friendly! The service was great and gosh damn the Sisig Silog, was amazing! My wife and I shared some of her Sinigang, and it was also delicious! Great service and great food! I'll definitely be back to try more, Filipino cuisine, from my Filipino folks!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place made me feel like I was eating at home! Inside has a cozy feeling and they have a whole separate place for the bands and the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was good, we got seated pretty quick and they let you wait for the rest of the party if they're still looking for a parking spot :D. Lastly, the food was super good. My family and I ate the whole thing so fast, I forgot to even take photos beforehand because of how hungry I was! We ordered Tocino, Chicken Inasaal, Gataa, Adobong Bangus along with garlic and white rice (P.S, white rice is free). Had so much food we could eat it for breakfast! Anyways, this place is good if you're looking for a filipino spot to dine at! Good food, good atmosphere, and lowkey cute servers .

My sister ordered food to go yesterday and when we open the container there was a dead Fly on the pinakbet. It was disgusting and we end up throwing the whole thing away . Also, The crispy pata looks like a day old and it taste like it was fried over again with an old oil. The color of the crispy pata was very dark and we can taste the old recycled oil. My sister had a tiny piece and it went straight in the garbage. Shame on you . read more

Service is just always slow for take out. Today I ordered food by phone at 11:30AM for a 1:45PM pick-up and at 2:10PM I'm still waiting and have yet to even know when the food will be ready. I get that they are busy but if the food was ordered 2 hours ahead of time and I'm waiting an extra 30 mins in store then why even offer such service. read more

The unli rice was really good. Dishes were good. Tonight's entertainment, Mar 16 (Sunday) was really good - great sets and great performances. They called themselves the "Oke" Boys (play on karaoke) ! The only complaint we had, the bagoong. I know the bagooong is precious right now but what they gave was not enough and you have to pay extra to get more. Kare-kare is not good without bagoong. Nice ambiance. read more

Came on a Wednesday afternoon it wasn't packed at all but it took 20mins to have the waiter to come and get our order. Seemed like there was only one waiter at that time. Once we ordered out food, within 10mins the food came out. We ordered the sisig plate and the food wasn't hot at all, the other plate we ordered was chicken adobo, turns out the food was salty. The other dished that we ordered was palabok. There wasn't enough noodles, it was just all sauced. I'm pretty disappointed. We expected a lot since San Bruno location is really good. read more

Sinigang. I'm not sure why it was sweet and I searched on here if I was the only one who also had a similar experience. It turns out I'm not the only one. How could you mess up a sinigang? It's in a pouch you just mix in unless they're doing something else and even then why is it sweet? We also bought palabok and the next day it was already bad despite being in the fridge after we got home. I would say the inside is decent. The food is mediocre. The service was okay but I had to ask for straw 2x and even then by the time we paid and mentioned we still never got it (3rd time mentioning it now) the guy just said usually customers just get it from the beverage section. I don't think I'll be going back here. The experience was just not it. The individual chairs are hard so if you're a senior just hope one of the padded benches are available. read more

For the most part, we like the food here, but don't expect anyone to come by after they drop your food off. I have eaten here a total of 5 times and the same thing happens each time we go: they drop off the food and then are never to be seen again. It's a pain to have to flag someone down to bring you something or order additional food, and don't get me started on how long it takes them to give you your check and process your payment. If I get food from there again it will be takeout but I doubt I will go back because the "service" is severely lacking. read more

Customer Service...particularly attitude. Dont bring that condescending Pinoy attitude here in the States. Your fat supervisor needs some training on his attitude. If I was the owner of this newly opened branch in Pleasant Hill, fire that supervisor. He does not belong to his establishment. First impression makes a difference but that fat guy needs to go. My husband and I went to have dinner at the restaurant first time. Both of us are not familiar with filipino food, and we ordered egg rolls, brisket abodo, and Sisig. We like the brisket abodo very much, but don't really like the Sisig and the egg rolls. According to the waitress who served us and told that the Sisig is a lot of Pilipino's favorite choice. I definitely would recommend the brisket abodo to everyone. We sat in the lounge area and enjoyed the music a while before we departed. If you like to have a quiet evening that would not be you choice. My husband and I might go back there someday. read more

Not awful. Not bad. It reminds me when they opened Newark--the second location of 3. It took many years until the service(the prime issue), the decor(school canteen feeling and nothing cultural) and of course the food. In the end it's the food. It needs more flavor and effort. read more

Wanting crispy pata , the gentleman at the front did not even acknowledge me until I walked out 5 minutes later after standing there patiently waiting for him to finish texting , that didn't happen so I left , I am conflicted about posting this, but he could of just said one moment please, and I would have been patient , I guess they make so much money they don't need customers read more

Took my mom here for her birthday lunch. She's an excellent cook (we're Filipino). I knew going in that our standards of Filipino food would be quite high. But I do like to try new restaurants. We've been to the San Bruno location many years ago and remember it being pricey, but very good. So I was excited this location was opening. We all (5 of us) ordered silog plates. It was decent. I was turned off by the tomatoes being soft, just not quite rotten but almost. I like my tomatoes firm, not squishy texture with my silog plates. The potatoes in my adobo were undercooked. 3/5 for the food 2/5 for pricing They charge 15% mandatory service fee for parties of 5 and up. I already have an issue with tipping culture. For parties greater than 10, I understand ok. But to me, you need to earn your tip. It shouldn't be a given. Something small (or not) like this turns me away. I may come back with a party of 4 or less...maybe. read more

This is our third time here. Disappointing to say that the quality of food has gone down. The kare-kare lacked vegetable and beef meat were mostly fats and tendons. I thought this was a cook to order type of restaurant. With ginataang kalabasa, the beans was way overcooked. It looked like canned green beans was used. It seemed the dish has been sitting in a food warmer. Probably will not be coming back anytime soon. Unfortunately the quality of food is not consistent. read more

Apparently the only Filipino restaurant in the East Bay. We are here for dinner and the food is delicious. I personally love the Palabok, Pinakbet and sisig. Service is quick and our server, Alex, is very courteous and easy and made sure we were having a good time. He suggested some dishes that turned out really good. I would come back here for another round just to try new dishes. read more

Came here for the 1st time to try with my hubby and kids and I can say the food was good . The only downside is I hope the servers will pay more attention to the customers and like check on them. My kids said the restaurant have Terrible customer service. We are sitting on our table for quite a while waiting for someone to pass by or come check on us and no one ever did . We ordered some good food including chicken adobo but the chicken they used on chicken adobo was all leg and ribs part. Wish they use and serve more meaty part of the chicken pieces like the breast pieces rather than the bone part of chicken. They have lots of Filipino dishes to choose from which is good. We had a wonderful experience at Isla Grand. We went for lunch on a weekday and we were seated immediately. The staff were very nice and always checking in on us. Food came fast and everything we had was delicious. We ordered pansit bijon, sisig, and lechon kawali kare-kare (my favorite). The halo halo was also good. They give you a lot of food and rice is free! Alex was our server and he was very nice and funny. We enjoyed his company. There was an error on our bill that he caught and fixed. We will definitely be back and bring friends so they can experience our hospitality and taste our delicious food. Thank you for coming to the East Bay. We visited the restaurant earlier today (Sunday) around lunchtime. Although the wait time was approximately 45 minutes, it was certainly worthwhile. Had heard good things about this place so my gf and i went. Restaurant was a little busy, not a problem. Got seated and proceeded to wait 15 minutes until I got up to ask if we were going to be helped and the lady i talked to said she'd be over to help in just a second. I then watched her seat a bigger group of people and serve them right away. We waited 10 more minutes and still had not been helped. No one checked in on us. The guy who brought us water didnt even say a word. Not even a " You're welcome" after saying thank you. I would hate to say it was a race issue, but given we were the only white people in the restaurant and not a single waiter looked at us and couldnt bother to ask if we needed anything made it feel that way. Best Filipino food I've had in a long time - a real hidden gem in the East Bay. Dishes we ordered was Black Fried Rice, a very unique flavor compared to normal rice, Crispy Pata, which is sort of like Pork Grinds with the meat still attached, and the Longonisa breakfast. Yum! read more

They have a check-in tablet at the front, and after telling the host we had a reservation for 10, he immediately said, "Follow me." I specifically chose your restaurant because my family and I had visited before and had wonderful experiences. During our previous visits, there was lively music and an enjoyable atmosphere where people of all ages could dance and have fun. Based on those experiences, I confidently invited approximately 20 guests, including children and families, because I genuinely believed everyone would enjoy the same exciting atmosphere that we had experienced before. I spent close to $1,000 for this celebration expecting to create a memorable and enjoyable evening for my family and guests. I made this investment because I trusted that your restaurant would provide the same atmosphere that made us return in the first place. Unfortunately, nothing close to that experience happened, and I left feeling very upset and deeply disappointed. One of the biggest disappointments was the music and entertainment throughout the evening. We were at the restaurant from approximately 5:30 PM until 11:00 PM, and throughout almost the entire night there was virtually no danceable music at all. There was almost no music that encouraged dancing or created an engaging atmosphere. Song after song felt geared more toward a sit-down performance rather than creating an interactive and enjoyable atmosphere for guests. The music selection did not encourage dancing, participation, or celebration. The overall performance felt more like watching a small concert where people were expected to sit and listen rather than entertainment designed for a birthday celebration where guests of all ages could get up, dance, and enjoy themselves. My guests continued waiting and hoping the music would eventually change, but unfortunately it never did. Many people, especially the children, were excited and looking forward to dancing and celebrating, yet they never had the opportunity. Everyone was waiting for an opportunity to get up and enjoy the evening together, but it never came. There was not a single point during the regular performances where our group truly had an opportunity to dance and celebrate together. The only moment that briefly brought energy to the room was when a guest performer sang "I Will Survive," and for the first time people finally stood up and began to dance because it was a song people could enjoy and participate in. However, that moment ended almost immediately when the regular performance resumed. I understand that musical tastes vary, and I respect the effort of live performers. I was invited to Isla Grand in Pleasant Hill as first-timer with what I thought was a solid plan: observe quietly, eat politely, and not embarrass myself. The universe had other plans. Because I was introduced to the kamayan feast, which is basically what happens when a table decides utensils are optional, manners get relaxed, and food is no longer "served" so much as presented as a shared event happening directly in front of you. At first, I hesitated. I did the classic first-timer move--hovering my hand slightly above the food like I was trying to ask permission from the rice itself. Everyone else, however, was already fully committed. No forks. No hesitation. Just confidence and garlic rice. So I adapted. Quickly. And suddenly, I understood. The table was covered in a spread of Filipino traditional dishes that didn't feel like separate items--they felt like one coordinated experience. Garlic rice acting like the foundation of everything. Rich, savory meats layered in with bold seasoning and slow-cooked depth. Bright, tangy bites cutting through the richness at just the right moments like they'd been choreographed by someone's very opinionated lola. Every bite was slightly chaotic in the best way because there's no "correct" path. You just build your own perfect forkless (well... utensil-less) combination with your hands and hope the ancestors approve. What really got me, though, wasn't just the food--it was the customs behind it. Kamayan isn't just "eating with your hands." It feels like a quiet lesson in Filipino hospitality. Everything is shared. Everything is communal. You're not isolated in your own plate-world--you're part of a table ecosystem where people are constantly offering, pointing, encouraging: "Try this with that," "No, you need more rice with that bite," "Trust me." And somehow, even as a first-timer fumbling through the etiquette of it all, nobody lets you feel out of place. You're just... folded into it. At one point I stopped worrying about doing it right and just accepted that the correct way to eat kamayan is the way that gets more food into your mouth while laughing with the people around you. Simple enough. By the end, the table looked like a successful mission had taken place--emptied platters, scattered grains of rice, sauces doing their final victory lap. And everyone had that satisfied, slightly sleepy feeling of having actually shared a meal instead of just consuming one. I came in curious. I left a little less formal, a lot more full, and weirdly convinced that all food tastes better when your hands are allowed to participate in the decision-making process. Tried the new Filipino breakfast buffet at Isla Grand this weekend and had a yummy experience! When you first walk in, you're greeted and given a wristband. You are assigned a table. From there, you can head straight to the buffet line, which was well-organized. Be patient. The selection was impressive. They offered a wide variety of dishes. A few highlights included champorado, soups, and three types of rice (adobo rice, garlic rice, and steamed rice). They also had two noodle options: pancit canton and palabok. For proteins, there was tocino, longanisa, chicken adobo, and fried pork chops, just to name a few. There were also several condiments available to really customize and complement your plate. The ambiance was nice and clean, making it a comfortable spot to sit and enjoy your meal. As for the food everything tasted great and felt like high-quality dishes. Definitely something I'd come back for. The buffet is available Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Price is $24.98 per person +tax, beverage not included. On our first visit, our chicken inasal was served cold, and our food didn't arrive together. Hoping for a better experience, we gave it another try. This time, we waited 30-40 minutes just for the server to take our order. When the food finally came, it was served haphazardly, one dish at a time, with no coordination. We also ordered calamari, which never arrived. I couldn't help but notice other tables being seated and served much faster, which made the inconsistency even more frustrating. While I understand it's Mother's Day and busier than usual, my first visit was on a regular day, and the service was just as poor. What's more disappointing is the lack of attentiveness. Servers rarely check in, and it feels like you have to constantly flag them down for basic service. We had a reservation confirmed for over a week, only to arrive and find that it was essentially meaningless. The restaurant was near capacity, and despite the confirmation, the staff seemed completely unprepared to accommodate us. What made it worse was the manager's complete lack of concern or effort to resolve the issue, did not even acknowledge their miscommunication and no alternative offered -- just indifference. Service was painfully slow, and it was obvious they were understaffed. If the restaurant plans to continue accepting so many reservations and walk-ins, they seriously need to hire more staff to ensure an efficient workflow during peak hours. The venue is also poorly laid out, making it feel even more overcrowded than it is. It's unfortunate, because the place could have potential, but right now it's one of the worst dining experiences I've had in terms of organization and hospitality. A Bit Salty, A Lot of Wait We celebrated my birthday at Isla today. While the food was generally good, many dishes were overly salty. We ordered Deal Number 6, which was more than enough for five people with plenty of leftovers. The pancit, bistek, and miswa soup, unfortunately, were too salty for our taste. The miswa soup would have been perfect for the chilly weather, but the excessive saltiness was a major drawback. The bistek meat was tender, and both the bistek and pancit were flavorful, but again, the saltiness was overwhelming. The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived at 2 PM. We had to wait for a while to be seated. Additionally, my husband had to wait for his soda, which was part of our deal, as the staff seemed overwhelmed. I was also disappointed that I couldn't easily ask a staff member to take our picture, as they were all occupied. Thankfully, a kind stranger offered to take a photo of us. Visited this restaurant on a Saturday night to support a band performance. I've always enjoyed coming here for their sinigang -- it's consistently flavorful and satisfying, and it never disappoints. However, this time we decided to try the street food bilao, which features a variety of popular Filipino street foods. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. Some of the cuts, particularly the pig ears, were too thick to grill properly, and overall, the flavors were quite bland. The only item I found enjoyable was the hotdog, which is something I could easily prepare at home. Service was also disappointing during this visit. It took a considerable amount of time to receive our orders, even after multiple follow-ups. By the time the food arrived, we had lost interest. Another 5 stars review for Isla Grand as our Second time around , this restaurant never fails to create very satisfying memory . Our waiting time for our group (we're 12) was almost 28 minutes though it's very understandable as the restaurant is fully packed last Mother's Day. We ordered and also took another 25 mins, but it's ok, Jane courteously advised the delay and promptly assisted us with all are needs ,the table was not set yet. Food served as delicious normal expectation and worth to wait. My mom enjoyed the Pinacolada though a little bit pricey but presentation and the taste is really good ,The waiters looked all tired but you can still see smiling eyes and faces, They might miss a little but it doesn't affect their customer service with us. We had an amazing experience at Isla Grand last night! This was our third visit since they opened, and it just keeps getting better. The service was prompt, and the atmosphere felt like we were in the Philippines, especially with the live band and the open dance floor. Audio Squad ensured everyone was having a blast and dancing along to the music. Staff members Raf and Jane were incredibly friendly and attentive, always checking in to make sure we were okay. Nevertheless, when our group arrived, we were informed that the bar area was at capacity and we would need to wait for a table to become available. I addressed this issue with the manager, who indicated that there was nothing he could do and that we had been placed on the waitlist. This situation begs the question of why reservations are made if patrons will still be subject to waitlists. Doesn't this diminish the effectiveness of reservation systems? The food is typical of a Filipino restaurant, but the cost is a bit pricey for the quality. The service, however, was disappointing. The staff didn't seem passionate about their work. We were seated without a greeting and had to wait 20 minutes before I finally had to get up and find a waiter to take our order. The waiter lacked enthusiasm and never checked on us during our meal.
