Came on a Thursday for dinner and it was pretty quiet. Isla took over for Canasta that was previously here and has the same menu as their Clayton location! We ended up getting 3 tacos - carnitas, al pastor, and the "Isla taco" (carne asada and shrimp) and my husband got the Isla Platter. They bring out chips and salsa first but the food comes out quick after! My main reason for -1 start is it was the regular tacos are $3.75 and the Isla taco which is supposed to be shrimp +carne asada, only came with 1 shrimp but was $6. So an extra $2.25 for 1 piece of shrimp is not worth it that price jump. Otherwise, the service is good with a friendly and attentive staff. A nice place for a casual dinner but I'd stick with just the meat or just the seafood dishes.

We try to get back to Isla as often as we can. Consistently great delicious food . Deep fried Red Snapper Filete de Pescado, a la plancha (grilled) Filete de Pescado a la empanizado (breaded) Tostada de ceviche depulpo y camaron Tostada de ceviche de Pescado Isla Trio: Shrimp /Fish / quesabirria (birria, a traditional beef stew, with queso (cheese).)

People have to come over from the old Clayton Road location to this place, a block off of Todos Santos Plaza. A cold night so we had pozole, shrimp soup, and the carne asada and shrimp plate. Soup was awesome as usual and the carne asada and shrimp were tasty.

Isla is a small Mexican restaurant located next to Domino's Pizza and directly across the street from Parma Deli and Izakaya An. It took over the space previously occupied by Splash Tea. This place had been on my list to try for a while. It was highly touted by my buddy and fellow Elite David A. I finally got a chance to try them out on 07/05/2023, when I met David, his wife, and a couple other friends here for dinner. My group had already gotten a table and ordered when I arrived at 5:45pm. The tiny space was clean and cozy. Seating was limited to only a couple tables. After saying hi to everyone, I proceeded to the counter to order. I was greeted by the owner Sonja. She was very friendly and gave me a few recommendations. Ultimately, I settled on a quartet of tacos (birria, pastor, carnitas, and pollo asado). The total, with T/T, was close to $16 ($3 per taco). I looked at my receipt after the meal and Included in the bill was a 3.99% "Service Fee" that was not disclosed up front. I checked and the percentage charged did not match the Clover (PoS system they use) pricing guide I found online. Even though it wasn't much money, I was miffed about the lack of transaction transparency. Sonja brought us water and some chips and salsas. The salsas were freshly made and had a little bit of heat in them. Our food took about 15 minutes to arrive. Portions were moderate. The tacos were street taco size and very tasty. All the meats were juicy and flavorful. I also tried a bite of David's seafood burrita (not burrito). The shrimp and octopus were very succulent. The service we got from Sonja was very good. She checked on us a couple of times and refilled our water. We got a chance to chat with her and found out this is her first restaurant despite many years in the industry. Aside from the hidden fee, this is a good mom-and pop eatery that serves delicious food. It's worth visiting if you are in the area. Minus one star for the lack of transaction transparency. 4 stars. BONUS MATERIAL: - Look out for the hidden "Service Fee". - This place is hard to spot. The only signage is an A-frame out front. - Private parking lot in the back. - Major credit cards accepted.

Isla's has the best Mexican food I've eaten in 10 years living in the Bay Area. It specializes in seafood from the chef's home on the coast of Jalisco, but also has the staples you can find in any authentic Mexican restaurant or taqueria. This is a diamond in the rough that I never would have found without Yelp (an average rating of 5 stars and 10 minutes from home got me to take a chance on it). An unpretentious place, next to Domino's Pizza, the food is out of the world. It's run by a husband and wife team, with Sonia running the kitchen while Victor serves the guests with enthusiasm and charm. The prices are amazing value for the quality of food, even without the free chips and salsa for customers eating in. On our first visit, for lunch, my wife chose the shrimp and octopus ceviche (without jalapenos) and I went for the shrimp and octopus burrita (hey, we don't often see octopus at Mexican restaurants). They were both perfect, with the most tender and delicious octopus I have ever tried, neither tough nor overcooked (we watched Sonia cooking it in the back; she hovers over it with a pair of tongs, repeatedly pulling the octopus out then dipping it back into the pot). All the ingredients were incredibly fresh and the flavors perfectly balanced. The ceviche serving was also much larger than I'm used to, with plentiful octopus, shrimp, tomato, cucumber, avocado, and onion. I have never tried a burrita before (not a typo, but a Jaliscan variation on the burrito, which is folded in a grilled tortilla rather than wrapped) or an octopus burrito, but this was better than any seafood burrito I have ever had. Stuffed with juicy octopus and small shrimp, with green peppers, mild spices, and avocado, the burrita provided great flavors and mouthfeel.It was mild, but came with a rich chipotle dipping sauce--I may ask for more heat next time. The second time I went, I picked up amazing birria tacos for my daughter, an asade burrito for me, while my wife once again got the ceviche. Again, it was all best in class. We intend to be regulars, although given the limited seating, we will probably be doing take out and delivery more than eating in. I got hungry all over gain just writing this.

Went again recently and just have to say I absolutely love this place! Some of the nicest service I've ever had. The owners are a pleasure to talk to and really care about the quality of their food and about their customers. Always warm and inviting and of course the food is so delicious!!

Isla opens where Splash Tea was. 3 tables for inside dining. sparse decor offerings: tacos, quesadillas, tortas, burritos, daily specials, seafood, aqua fresca. drink: jamaica aqua fresca (4) -home made hibiscus tea hiding at bottom of refrigerator, not posted on menu. -tasty, refreshing drink with minimum sugar. eats: fish tacos (5) -big portion of tilipia fish nicely fried, with salsa on top, lime squeeze, cabbage. tasted fresh though sourced frozen. lengua taco (4?) -tasty, juicy, moist lengua pieces with cilantro, onions, green salsa. 4.5 stars. fresh ingredients, made to order. 5 stars for quality. leftovers: -short of staff. the cook did it all: server, cook, cashier -receipt wasn't itemized. -not all items onmenu had pricing. -menu just a listing of items, inadequate descriptions. no pics -food quality higher than average taquerias. -dia de los meutos (day of the dead) mug on counter -definitely repeatable.

This restaurant specializes in seafood, but they also have great popular Mexican food. We were there on a weekend when they have specials like Posoble and Chili Relleno. These two dishes were incredible. Just look at the photos. We also liked the Isla Trio(fish taco, shrimp taco and quesabirra taco), and the shrimp and octopus burrita. The lady server was super nice. Parking is in the back.

The lady that helped us was nice. However, she didn't listen to what I said, and asked for, and in the end it made me spend way more money than I wanted to.. I ordered the Isla trio she brought me that plus a plate of birria tacos. I asked for a side of beans, and she brought me a side of rice. The food was decent. I thought it was strange that I didn't get consume to dip my taco my husband asked for the dip/broth also and didn't get any. Spent more than planned probably won't go back. No parking Very limited seating . I have a family of six. I love to support small businesses and yes I could have told her that she miss heard me but I felt obligated to keep it

If I said it once I said it a million times. The best fish tacos ever. Yes I said ever. As of now you can get mahi-mahi Seabass or tilapia. I highly recommend the mahi-mahi, but you can't go wrong with the other two either. And Sonia, the owner/Cook, you can't go wrong with her either. A smile with $1 million and genuine and down to earth. Don't be fooled by the modest and humble appearance. The food packs a five star punch. No, the best fish tacos are not the end of the line just the beginning. I was originally attracted by the ceviche. The burritos can compete with any Mexican restaurant around as well. But don't take my word for it, as they say, go say hi to Sonia! read more

The fish tacos are very good. Fresh and the sauce was good. Not too spicy or overwhelming. They have 3 types of fish. Try all 3, tasty. Also had tall glass of homemade jicama juice. Very good not too sweet which I like. Will definitely go back. Want to try their menudo soup on the weekend. And have more Fish taco too Service, friendly and nice. She will get you order and the bring you your food, nice and hot. This is a small place. There are a few tables /chairs and there is lots of people that come in for take out. read more

Food was amazing! I had chicken taco dorados, and my husband had the isla trio. That consisted of birria taco w consomme, fish taco, and a shrimp gobernador that had cheese and chile relleno. Everything was hot and fresh, salsa was spicy and flavorful! We don't live here but we'd definitely come back as it was delicious! Parking was a little tight but it wasnt very busy so were able to park easily in the middle of a Saturday. read more

Wow, great fish tacos! I was a little worried about going to this restaurant. I would call it a "hole in the wall from outward appearance, but now I know that this is not a hole in the wall, but rather a gold vault and I ate the gold nuggets, commonly known as fish tacos. Yummy, yummy, yummy! The owner is very friendly and the cashier was also friendly and helpful. You've just got to try this place -- another delicious little place! Practically drove by the new restaurant daily, and seen it on yelp. Octopus burrita was intriguing and had to stop by. It's definitely family owned. I observed inside the restaurant some like family member walking in and out of the counter. Like a son was sitting down with his girlfriend and they ordered. Or an elderly gentlemen bussing the tables. You definitely will get a good family friendly service. The food, the flavor is really really good. It's very deep and definitely hits the spot. I haven't had seafood this flavorful! The only downside, it's pretty expensive and they took a bit longer than other places.They are competing with a lot of already existing burrito places, and the amount of food you get is a bit smaller then expected. The burrita when looking up, it's just the same thing as a burrito, just cultural differences. And I've had a lot of shrimp burritos that were definitely bigger, and really good mex restaurants would give fresh chips for free. The shrimp they use is way too small, and I'm not sure where the octopus is in the burrito. Cost 16. Empanadas for 3 cost 12. It is expected as seafood makes cost more expensive, but I think they can add some chips, or make the shrimp decently bigger for the burrita. They were taking longer and the owner said they were busy. They said 15, and it became 30. However, they made up for it by giving me an extra empanada as 3 for 12 empanadas are already expensive enough. I wonder if it had to do with their family being there? So if your looking for flavors, definitely going back. If your looking for a bigger meal, there are many many good Mexican restaurants in the area that already do seafood burritos at the same price with chips and a drink. I m probably still going back to try the other meals as seafood was delicious. read more

I don't know if we ate at the same place as all those other 5 star reviews would indicate, but here goes. First off, the chips weren't fresh, were thick and shattered into pieces when taking a bite. Very small portions of salsa, but the green one was tasty. Ordered a chile relleno, which was huge, but lacking flavor, accompanied with a small portion of luke warm beans and almost cold rice, neither of which got any warmer during the meal. Beer was well chilled. Server was attentive, checking on us frequently. Considering the poor quality, and the high price for the simple entree, I don't expect to return, even though I'd like to see this small business succeed. They really need to up their game, if they're going to succeed in this new location, especially since it is an out of the way place. Here's hoping for the best, but without my further assistance. read more

We were looking to try something new , Mexican in the area. Judging on the previous Yelp ratings Isla spiked our curiosity. Parking is a bit sparse in the area, if we didn't get a spot, we would have opted for a different restaurant. We are glad we didn't as our experience was quite nice. My wife ordered a fish taco, I ordered a shrimp burrito, the waiter suggested their "burriatta" style of burrito- I was open to give it a try. I also noted they have Posole, I ordered a lg bowl to go with our choices for dinner. Like other restaurants,,,They serve chips and salsa. Chips are fried there, thicker style, served warm. The red Salsa is good with a tolerable amount of spice. I had to control myself as I could easily have filled myself on the chips alone. The posole came out first. It was delicious, very much like i would have made at home with large chunks of pork meat and lots of hominy. With onions and cilantro, I loved it. We shared the bowl between us,, I liked it so much I finished the bowl. My wife enjoyed her taco, but I was too full so I asked for my burrito to be packed to go. I enjoyed my burrito later that night. It was delicious, but I think i would have preferred a regular rice and bean with the shrimp burrito. Overall we had a pleasant experience, the service was nice - yes we will return. There are many Mexican restaurants in the Concord area to choose from. Isla will be on our List. We drove 16 miles from Danville in commuter traffic. Isla was worth the drive. read more

My sister and I are foodie people, literally!! This place is fantastic! I love how neat everything is. The owners are super friendly and welcoming, and the food is out of this world! First time trying Isla Restaurant but definitely not my last! Like any other Tuesday the first thing that comes to my mind when I'm hungry is "tacos". After a quick google search I came across this place and I'm so glad I did! Not only are the tacos delicious but the service and the cleanliness of the restaurant is enough for me to keep coming back forever. Victor greeted me with a big smile as soon as I came in the door and gave me a run down on the menu because I was a first time customer. Victor and his wife are amazing people with great taste in food. They made me feel at home eating at their restaurant! The food is authentic, tasty and made fresh to order!! We were passing through and needed to feed some hungry kids. We saw rave reviews so we gave it try. First the owner was so accommodating and friendly. She took care of the kids and brought flavorful meals for each of us. As she checked in, she heard my son's friend say I want a quesadilla and immediately said, let me make a little one for her. That is above and beyond. That's what keeps you going back, to places like these. Secondly, our fish and shrimp tacos were delicious. Everything was fresh. The chipotle crema perfectly spiced. We also had one seafood burrito and sides of beans and rice. All devoured! Even the tomatillo dipping salsa with chips was lovely. Much appreciated! Go eat there it's fantastic! The five star reviews are right on. (Thank you) I had the dorados (potato and chicken)--yummy. Pastor full flavored and moist meat--seafood isn't the only thing they do wonderfully. And finally the special shrimp taco best I have had since I reluctantly left Los Cabos. And fantastic refrieds. Super nice women--I ate there, they were very busy but got my order out promptly. Ok guys listen up I never been so excited about a Mexican restaurant this place is the bomb . Man I kid you not authentic stuff the real deal . We just got back for Mexico we are looking for this beef taco found it here man it's better than in Mexico . Listen you really need to try this place their menu is all over the board great stuff next time I go I will be doing the seafood thing shrimp and octopus taco sounds great . The only thing is parking is not great and it's small but their food is so yummy you will walk a mile for it maybe even 2 miles not kidding folks the best in the west . Their crispy chicken taco is to die for the pastor taco is grand but the beef crispy beef the sauce is killer . Very reasonable price and the flavors is outstanding very nice family ran atmosphere it's kinda small place I don't care I will take it to go good stuff people try it now read more

We went here Saturday August 3rd for a late lunch. We were out in Concord and they had good reviews so thought we would give it a try. We were seated right away, then it took about 10 minutes for someone to take our order . When our order arrived, they only brought my food, my husband waited another 5 minutes for his. We ordered steak burritos but they were more like veggie burritos, not very much meat al all. The guy that brought our food was not friendly at all, we had to ask for napkins and silverware and waited another 5 minutes. No one came back to check on us. No air conditioning, only a fan which was fine until a group of 3 men came in and turned the fan only on them. We took our food, paid and left. There were only about 6 other people in the restaurant so it wasn't busy read more

Had some delicious fish tacos here tonight! My husband and I each tried a Tilapia and a Seabass and we enjoyed them both. Nice and flaky and just the right amount of breading, topped with a creamy cabbage and salsa, yum! We ordered a Chile relleno also which was their special tonight, it was different but I liked it. We will definitely be back- so glad to have found a legit fish taco spot! read more

The food is GREAT! However, you will also be bowled over by Victor's generous hospitality! After greeting us warmly, he took time to explain the menu, and highlight the house specialties. We split the Burrita (no, that is not a typo) and a trio of Tacos: Fish Taco, El Governador Taco, and a Quesabirria Taco. All of it delicious, beautifully seasoned, and filling! We ventured over to Isla as part of our Concord Taco Trail adventures. We WILL be back! (I especially want to try the Al Pastor Tacos and Empanadas!) read more

This place was highly recommended so I came. Ordered the fish tacos and empanadas and they were excellent. My Dad ordered the pozole which was great and didn't have that obvious pork fat floating on the surface of the soup. The owner was so friendly and for that, I'll be back plenty. read more

On my first visit, wasn't impressed with outdoor seating on a hot day. Food , fish tacos, was actually good just not enough employees to handle a non-rush environment. Our party of four was waiting 20 minutes to place our order and after anther 40 minutes we couldn't wait any longer. Asked for food to go and then waited another 15 minutes. I felt bad for the group of 10 that came in as we were leaving. Management needs to staff correctly and honestly how long does it take to make a taco. Are they cooking the beans and rice from scratch when we order them?!? Not likely to return. read more

So thankful to have a new dining option in the neighborhood! After seeing all the rave reviews we finally decided to give them a shot. I'm glad we did! We've gotten a number of items on the menu but the standouts have been the governador tacos (great mix of shrimp, cheese and pepper) and the birria taco combo which has a generous serving of tender, well seasoned beef. The Al Pastor street taco is also a great option. The service here has been great and on the last visit they gave us a serving of fresh made chips and salsa. I've definitely been recommending them to all my friends. Be sure to give them a try! read more

It's just okay and the service is probably better if you drink because you'll spend more and they waitresses seemed more enthused to serve the people in the bar area than the other patrons drinking water with their meal. Hands down easily the best delicious authentic Mexican gem of a restaurant in the Bay Area - Home of the famous pulpo/octopus tacos!!! When my friend from SF recommends a place for fresh seafood I run there as this was one of my birthday wishes! Like many reviews said the owners Victor and Sonia are amazing as they go above and beyond for their customers to have a stellar experience from their friendly welcome, stories shared about their food, clean ambiance and unique flavors! All me and husband can think about is going back soon eventhough we live in Dublin ha! The servings are plentiful and each dish we got had good flavor explosion to one's palette! I went here on the recommendation from a friend. The food here was AMAZING! So fresh and flavorful. The owners were gracious, polite and friendly to each customer. We ordered the special that consisted of 3 different tacos and each one was fantastic! Also, they make their own chips and they are great. Although it's quite small inside, it was VERY clean and pleasant. The I love supporting small businesses that do a fabulous job and Isla Restaurant is one that I will definitely be going back to. Sometimes they're bordering on rude as they just kind of give you an indifferent stare as you're ordering, or will just feel as if they're half listening and not even looking up. The service was a bit better when I dined in, so perhaps maybe it's just the takeout, although it's usually the same person for both. Price wise, it's certainly not going to be cheap. If you want the best bang for your buck around here, El Aguila probably won't be it as there's a plethora of taquerias in this area. Food quality wise, it's pretty good overall. There are some tasty dishes here that will certainly warrant the little bit of extra cost here compared to other places. Things that I have tried here are the burritos and the torta. The burritos here are yummy as they they will have ingredients inside the burrito that is slightly different than your cookie cutter burrito at any other place. It really does help adds layers of flavor to it that other places do not offer. However, the best part of it is indeed the fact they grill the outside of the burrito to get that nice flakiness that wrap, and makes it a oh so rewarding experience. Meat portions was okay, but wish it had more especially for the cost. The torta I got was pretty good, as the ingredients inside were pretty typical so nothing really stood out. The break was toasted well, but I do wish it was a bit softer as it may have been to toasted. Should be toasted outside and soft inside, but this one just felt toasted all over. The meat portion also suffers from the same issue as the burrito as that it's not as generous as it could be. However, the flavors and taste were fine. It's certainly a nice place for those who want a bit of a different style of their Mexican cuisine. They have some flavors here that will be atypical of most of the cookie cutter taquerias around. While they are a bit expensive comparatively, the portions are actually decent (minus the meats). You can certainly be filled with just a single burrito. Worth a visit.

We walked in at 5:30pm and were immediately greeted by the lone female server, who seated us at a table towards to back of the restaurant. The interior was very clean, and lighting was soft and warm. The giant restaurant logos on the walls were prominently displayed. Their menu featured a wide array of appetizers, soups, bibimbaps, cold and hot noodles, meat dishes, etc. We opted against their signature kalbijjim and instead got three entrée combos (L.A. galbi, spicy pork, and bulgogi). Each entrée came with our choice of tofu soup. Half a dozen banchans were brought to us before the arrival of the entrées. The buchu (chives) and baechu (Napa cabbage) kimchi were excellent. Our food took about 15 minutes to arrive. Portion wise, the tofu soups were of decent size, but the meat entrées were kind of stingy (they were served in small round skillets). I had the seafood tofu soup and it was very good. It was loaded clams, shrimp, and squid. We shared the entrées, and they all tasted great. The only gripe I had was a couple pieces of the galbi had very little meat on them. Service we received was great. Our server was friendly, helpful, and efficient. I'm still generally not a big fan of visiting on weekends though. Because the place gets so crowded, you sometimes have to wait a while for certain items to be replenished. But my favorite food that they serve only on the weekend (or dinner) are the Steamed Oysters served in their gigantic shells, which look absolutely impressive, and the Grilled Sweet Shrimp. The Sweet Shrimp reminds me of Tiger Prawns, just much much bigger, and they taste amazing. They're incredibly juicy, and the meat is so tender too. They also offer sashimi on the weekends, although it's limited to Salmon and Tuna. Other than those though, the rest of the food is pretty much the same as the weekday lunch menu. I'm really glad to see they're doing so well. The place was packed when we came here for lunch yesterday. The service was fast and spot on as always. The servers were constantly making their rounds and clearing dirty plates from the tables as soon as they saw them. Great service. Also, they're currently giving 5% off if you pay in cash, just fyi.

This lady with natty hair wearing all black followed me back to my table, said, "I have to take your plate. That's a dinner item." She would not stop talking and repeating her same words over and over. When we got there, we wanted one lunch and one dinner purchase. The guy said you can't have one lunch and one dinner at the same table. But that's their way of upgrading your lunch ticket to a dinner ticket in their favor, meaning more money for them. My Friend said she wanted oysters and crab and the guy said that is a dinner item. The guy then said, "It's all right." He sold us our tickets and took us to our table. They did not explain that at 3:30, they start switching out the trays of food and those are now ALL considered dinner items. Here is the photo, the lady that stands behind the serving table, will chase you to your table over two little tiny pieces of shrimp, takes the TWO tiny pieces of shrimp and scolds you and continues to argue. I understand that a lot of people probably try to take advantage in an all you can eat place, but I've never seen anything so ridiculous over TWO tiny pieces of shrimp that she had to end up just throwing in the garbage and she would not stop talking. I had to ask her to leave my table and even after I asked her to leave my table, she continued to keep talking about the situation and repeating herself over two pieces of shrimp. So I asked her to leave again and she finally did and she dumped the TWO tiny pieces of shrimp in the garbage. Lol .

I walked in and ordered, they told me it would be about 15 minutes since they had three orders in front of mine. I went and sat in my car for about 8-10 minutes and went back in, my order was ready. The Nam Khao/Crispy Coconut Rice Salad was extremely satisfying. The flavor was immense, and when wrapped with the lettuce, it was perfect. The Lao sausage Banh Mi was delicious. The pork sausage in it was tasty. There is a menu on the wall at the counter. There's also printed menus stacked at the counter. I think the printed one has other items. Ordering is done at the counter and you are given a number to place at your table. Your food is brought to you. There's about 15 tables. Some for two and most are for four. Larger groups can be easily accommodated by combining tables. If you go, check out the beautiful mural.

First time trying and it did not meet my expectations based upon the reviews. I was disappointed. The food was ok. Tried 6 different tacos. Taste was good (aside from the plant based taco which was almost inedible). Tacos are very overpriced IMO. They are small and not full. Over $20 for 3 small tacos. I left hungry since they were so small. I expected the tacos to be larger and more full for the price. The chips are good. Service was mediocre. We waited for quite a while for the check to come. They never came to our table so I went up to the cashier and waited another 15 minutes for someone to help me at the register. There was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time. read more

Tried this place for the first time today and I have to say the five star review is absolutely worth it. Not only where the burritos amazing I had one shrimp burrito and one steak burrito. Absolutely amazing food and service! We are just visiting but this is definitely our spot. The ceviche did not disappoint. The octopus taco was to die for. Everything we consumed was consumed was fresh and well-presented. The flavor profiles are delicious. We will be back to try more dishes on the menu. I will definitely be going back. Amazing food! The lady that took my order was so friendly and helpful. The chips are fresh and the salsa is delicious. I had the crispy chicken tacos, the chicken was seasoned well and not dry at all. I will return often. Parking is limited so be prepared for that. read more
