Just left there, horrible horrible pasta. Pasta was undercooked, tasted like sink water and nothing else. Ordered a Cesar salad and the croutons were inedible, tasted like chemicals, maybe stucco. The only edible thing was the pizza which was decent. Definitely would not return. And even though we sent back our entire pasta, all they could do for us was give us the pasta half off. Island Pasta is a tradition for me and my daughter, whenever I visit the west coast. We have always had an excellent experience there (which is why we always return!), and last night was no exception. We love the pizza and pasta -- and especially the garlic bread. Even more importantly, the service and the customer service are/were exceptional. Last night, we were the only customers on a slow night, but we were greeted warmly - and our request to sit under one of the outdoor heat lamps was quickly accommodated. Our waiter was friendly and attentive - checking in regularly but not too often -- and we were encouraged to enjoy the evening (which we did) without feeling rushed at all. The portions are generous, the prices are very reasonable, and we always have a few leftovers to take with us. We definitely will keep Island Pasta as part of our family tradition, and would highly recommend this place to everyone. Thank you! read more

Food was just terrible. Worst pasta I've ever had. Why was my pasta sour??? Service was fine, location seems nice, but there's better options in the area. Seems like if my 6 year old brother decided he wanted to make a restaurant, and the only person that helped him was my 10 year old brother. My husband and I love Italian food and thought we found a gem. The service was fantastic and we were feeling great about our choice. Then the food came......it was by far the worst pasta we've ever had. I ordered the pesto pasta, it tasted rotten and sour. My husband ordered olio pasta, it was tasteless with a hint of burnt garlic. The amount of salt we poured into the few bites was pathetic. This review is solely on the food -- I ordered take out for my family. My husband had the vegetable lasagna, kid had the pepperoni cheesy garlic bread, and I had their large pasta plate (fettuccine with marinara sauce). My husband liked his lasagna, and my kid ate some of her bread. It was a large amount for her. My pasta, however, had a lot of pepper in the marinara sauce which ruined it for me. We decided to go exploring and get some food elsewhere. Island Pasta didn't have the greatest reviews but the only other option was the Italian place right next door. We went there first and were told it would be an hr wait. We scratched our heads since it didn't look like it was that busy. We decided not to wait and and went to Islands, sitting curbside. The server was a typical "Surfer dude" kind of kid and was funny. We ordered what we wanted and it was all delicious. They make a non-pizza dough pizza bowl. Basically, everything you would have on a pizza but in a bowl without crust. It was pretty good. Great selection of wine and the portions were good sized. I got the meatball sandwich which was good but definitely needed more sauce. In fact, most of our dishes needed more sauce. but we were happy and will come back again. As far as the initial Italian restaurant that gave us an hour wait time and seemed expensive? yea, the next group that came were immediately seated 10 minutes later. As we sat curbside, we could hear the 2 hostesses how they couldn't wait to get off work and go to a party. They were hoping no one else would arrive so they could leave early. One leaned to the other and said, "Just tell them it's a long wait, all tables are reserved." I guess they didn't realize we could hear every word. read more

Don't have enough good things to say about this place. The salad had lunchable style Oscar Myer cubes meat in it . Mmmm so good . Then the main courses came . Aquarium scented fish and pasta with preggo sauce . Although I could have made this meal at home for a fraction of the cost I was just awestruck that I was in Coronado and paid the obsurd bill. 10/10 would eat again read more

The Alfredo sauce tasted like a flavorless milk cream and the pesto tasted like it was caught of the ocean. Just so unreasonably fishy. It's sad to say even my noodles felt and tasted like they had been in a freezer for weeks before. My other friends did enjoy they tortellini and lobster ravioli. Best spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic cheese bread in San Diego; better than Filippi's and Spaghetti Factory. Both use a healthy portion of fresh garlic, yum! Also had a meatball on the side which was nothing short of mouth watering amazing. This afternoon I stopped by for lunch and decided to try the meatball parm sub. I was hoping that it would be good, as the waitress recommended that it was and it was not a disappointment at all. The sub roll had just enough garlic on it to add to the flavor of the meatballs and gravy, which made it an absolutely delicious meal. The pasta and tomato on the side was an added touch of goodness too. I'll be tempted to come back and eat whenever I'm in the area, to try more of the menu, but I might just have another meatball parm sub. Good to go! read more

My wife and I have gone here often over the last several years, and we generally like the food. It's not great, but it's not bad and always consistent. However, we were there this week, sitting at the bar as we always do, and it struck me that although we had had the same server four or five times recently, she never seemed to recognize us or acknowledge that we had returned. We eat out a lot, and it's nice when you're recognized, which is the case everywhere else. Also, this time, the three servers talked among themselves the whole time we were there, and two of the three cooks sat at the end of the bar, talking the whole time. This strikes me as highly unprofessional, and it made me feel like I was an intruder rather than a guest. The food was OK, but the environment was disappointing. read more

The place is quite small and can get VERY crowded, which slows down the service. They have a huge amount of wine to choose from. It is a place you should try!!!! read more

absolutely horrifying.. my finance and i went on Friday night at about eight PM we didn't have a lot of time and were sat quickly. the waitress seemed uninterested and unqualified. food came out in a timely manner. first: i ordered the manicotti: tasted prefrozen. marinara sauce tasted like it came out of a can. there was two inches of chewy mozzarella barely melted on top. im sure you can fine a better product in the frozen aisle of the grocery store. now for the big bang: my guy ordered spaghetti noodles with pesto sauce and a meatball on top the pasta came out (no meat ball) it looked ok. the meat ball was later brought out in a little bowl with marinara sauce all over it. yeah yeah..but he wanted to put it in his pasta. before he could even chew his pasta three times he had to spit it out. he asked me to taste it to make sure it wasnt just him and i also spit out the bite i took. bitter, sour..rotten tasting crap. it had to go back, this stuff is going to make someone sick. it took about 10- 15 minutes to wave down a server (in a small restaurant) We could see them!! my fiance had to get up and out of his seat to retrieve a server. they apologetically took his plate and brought out another (very fast) plate of spaghetti with the same canned marinara that i had. the second star is only because they were fast and comped the rotten pesto. and the table next to us seemed to enjoy their pizza. probably will never return read more

Went there for lunch expecting fresh made pasta. Yes, the pasta was homemade but the flavor was bland. I ordered the chicken Marsala and the plating was a complete mess. Not appetizing at all. The chicken had skin and fat, it was dredged in flour that was not cooked well so it was a paste-like coating on my chicken. My boyfriend ordered the chicken parm. It was just mediocre. The caprese salad was very good. Service was poor. Not very attentive to our basic dining needs. I wouldn't waste my time or money here again. Big disappointment! read more
