Sushi is ok. Definitely not my go-to place, but not bad if you are nearby and just looking for a quick bite.

Our favorite Japanese restaurant in the area! We moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and keep coming back to try more on their menu. Sushi and sashimi is fresh, cooked entrees are delicious, and they have great lunch and (early) dinner specials. Even if you don't order their specials, their menu prices are really reasonable. My husband's favorite is the Salmon teriyaki. It's such a simple dish but they do it so well..salmon perfectly cooked, not too saucy and it comes with these roasted potatoes that are delicious. We were surprised to see potatoes on the dish at first but they were so good...wish we could order an entire side order of them. read more

Had a few take out lunch specials and dinner (sushi lunch, chicken katsu, katsudon) and it was just OK- fresh ingredients, OK-taste but overpriced in my opinion. Go there when you are hungry and you won't be so disappointed. read more

This place might not make your toes curl with the deliciousity of their rolls, but for $8 during lunch hours you can get a bowl of miso soup, a salad, and two simple 6-piece rolls. The food is OK but I wouldn't go there again. Sometimes it is a bit noisy. and they have a cell phone policy (of which I was unaware), and being alone, called a friend for a chat. I have a soft voice. The manager was very rude, held up a No Cell Phone sign in my face and said, "no cell phone". I explained I was only talking to a friend and that other people there could talk to friends, but she was adamant. My advice is not to go there unless you have friends with you. read more

The food was fine, the service was fine, the decor was fine, the prices were perfectly reasonable, everything about the place was just fine. However, there was just nothing special that would make me want to come back. I got three rolls and tried a few of the ones that my friends got and they were all good, but very generic. There wasn't anything to set them apart and make it worth going all the way to the Upper East Side for. If I lived in the neighborhood, it would be a good place to stop in for one of their lunch specials. In short - good, but unremarkable. read more

Grabbed takeout here while traveling for shoots in NY & wasn't disappointed. Authentic miso soup, fresh edamame & they even made an off-menu salmon crunchy avocado roll by request. This cozy little restaurant on the Upper East Side has a relaxing atmosphere with simple, yet stylish decor. Even the bathrooms smelled nice which is always a welcomed extra. The sushi at Isohama is very fresh and well-made. In addition to the usual rolls, try the Isohama Chef's special which is a mix of different ingredients wrapped in avocado. Very tasty. For dessert try their tempura fried banana which goes good with some red bean ice cream on the side =) read more

The beansprout salad was very nice and had just the right amount of sesame, but the "sushi sandwich" was the most fun. I thought it was just going to be another fad, but it was really a tasty layering of rice, fish, sushi veggies, and wasabi mayo, cut like a club sandwich and then covered in roe. My favorite sushi place on the Upper East! My husband and I try to eat here a couple of times a month for a nice night out. The fish is always fresh, and the sushi chef's come up with some great "off the menu" specials. Half of the time, I'm not even sure what I've been served (we like to let the chef's serve their recommendations) but it is consistently delicious. If you like sticking to the menu - you can't go wrong. They have gluten free soy sauce at all times, and will adjust rolls to make them gluten free if you need. read more

I've been coming to Isohama for about 2 years at this point, and have yet to have anything but a delicious meal. Some of my favorites: Volcano Roll, Spicy Triangle, Spicy Tuna Roll. Fantastic service, great atmosphere especially for dates, cheap and plentiful sushi. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

My husband and I ate dinner here last night. We had the avocado roll, sweet potato tempura roll, and the AAC roll. They were all AMAZING. So yummy! The best part was the vegetable noodles. YUM!!! Service was great...attentive but not too much. We will be going back! read more

I eat at Isohoma two or three times a week. Always get great food and service. The Sushi Lunch Special is a deal. Their fried banana is a real treat, especially with vanilla ice cream. When I bring friends, they always like it. Terrific locally owned small business. Good luck guys! read more

family favorite. i always trust the lunch special here, and the servers are always very nice. isohama is definitely my most trusted sushi place in the area, the fish always seems fresh, and they always nail the rice. the atmosphere of eating in for lunch is always very good, and for delivery they always compartmentalize and pack the bags in a way that makes for a fresh meal. delicious!!! i often only get sushi from here, but their desserts are also always delicious! if you're willing to dish out some $$, it's 100% worth it. read more

I have been going to Isohama for years. I always felt it was a great neighborhood sushi place. Had dinner there tonight and it seems that something has changed. The usual friendliness was missing which tales off one star. However, they clearly are putting less fish in the rolls and more rice, a two star offense. I have been going to Isohama for many years. By far the best sushi in NYC, excellent quality, professional serving staff and A+ in cleanliness. I was outraged at the tacky customers remarks with the poopy diaper incident. I sympathize with all the customers who were inconvenienced by that selfish couples lack of respect for others. I love this restaurant. It is my go to sushi place on the upper east side. They always make nice rolls (and don't skimp on the fish!), a good green salad with ginger dressing, and both the miso soup and the mushroom soup in clear broth are very good. It isn't as authentic as Koito which is nearby, but when I am in the mood for predictably good standard sushi, this is where I go. The prices are just about average for the area, but I'd say the product is definitely better than average. They have a happy hour with $4 beers also. read more
