This Japanese spot is a visually stunning, highly immersive Japanese izakaya known for its extraordinary Tokyo-alley vibe, themed private rooms, and satisfactory shared plates. It features stunning ambiance alongside moderately pricey food that generally satisfies groups looking for an enjoyable night out. The vibe is bustling and energetic. Their high ceilings and an indoor village layout mirror Tokyo's nightlife with lanterns and a bar under a golden tree. They have a number of rooms like the Comic, Tatami, Sauna, Geisha and Ninja rooms offer fun, semi-private compartments. They offer an extensive sake selections, beer towers, and themed cocktails like lychee martinis or passion margaritas. Giant unadon, Yakitori platters, pork jowl skewers, spicy BBQ karaage chicken, sushi dragon balls, raw oysters with uni, tonkatsu ramen and takoyaki are a favorite and receive high points from costumers for flavor and freshness. Their staff service is friendly, attentive, and welcoming. I noted that the team provides personalized hospitality and quick assistance, even using call buttons at tables for fast service. Expect to spend around $30-$50 per person depending on alcohol and number of small plates ordered. Portions are good for sharing, though some find it a bit costly for what it is. It certainly is a unique food experience coming to this food spot.

Went to such a cool place for dinner and tried some of their dishes. The yakitori platter is a sample selection of all their skewers, which were all pretty good. The okonomiyaki was similar to a vegetarian fried pancake, which I enjoyed besides the bonito flakes on top which made it a bit dry. The cream udon was really good, not sure how to explain the flavors but I would definitely order it again. The interior is really cool and gives the vibes of tokyo, japan with all the decoration they have. There is also a huge bar for those who would like to come just for drinks. The service is really fast and attentive. My waitress was really keen on picking up any empty plates or trash we had at the table which was nice.

They do Izakaya WELL! The drinks specials are abundant. The vibe is transformative. The restaurant appears to be sectioned off by individual rooms. All with its own unique design. You press the call button for the wait staff who comes quickly. The food was nothing short of fresh. And cooked to perfection. Whether its land, sea, or both they have every dish covered. The oyster shooters was decadent. The yakitori was flavored really well. And the Sushi was fresh. Can't wait to come here and bring more people. I wouldn't want to gate keep such an awesome restaurant.

I really enjoyed dining at this restaurant. The environment is beautifully designed, with many uniquely themed rooms that make the whole experience feel special. The food is refined and thoughtfully presented, showing great attention to detail in both flavor and appearance. If the prices were just a bit lower, it would be absolutely perfect.

    Impossible Unadon

I've been quite obsessed with una-tama don lately, so I made the trip to Izakaya Nana just for this. The giant piece of grilled eel definitely lived up to my expectation. The unagi was so massive it barely fit on the bowl... The japanese street style decor and private dining booths make it feel super immersive, and even the restrooms are covered in Demon Slayer and anime posters. *Impossible Unadon $34.99 ** The bowl was topped with a giant piece of unagi and tamago over rice. It had a charcoal-grilled aroma, crispy caramelized edges, and a buttery center. The sauce was so delicious with white rice. If I had to be picky, I would've loved a fluffy dashi tamagoyaki instead of the simple tamago. *Kaki Fry $8.99 * Crispy on the outside, juicy and briny on the inside. It was so yummy dipping into the tonkatsu sauce. *Hako Sushi $21.99 The last time I had hako (pressed) sushi was in Osaka, so I was excited to see it here. Each piece was beautifully presented like a tiny jewel, topped with colorful fish roe. The rice part was dry and dense though. *Yakitori platter $26.99 You can't go to an izakaya and not order skewers, so we got the 7-skewer platter. The beef skirt, pork belly, king oyster mushroom, and zucchini were the standouts. The chicken tender and chicken wing were a bit dry though.

Yummy food! I recommend getting the hamachi Kama and the dragon balls! The 1 meter platter was also a decadent experience and was the perfect amount for the four of us. While it is a little pricey, it was a cool experience that I'm glad I tried. Fast service and there is a button from your table to notify servers. Ambiance is comfortable and the whole restaurant is beautifully decorated. It's is quite private in the seating rooms. The bar area is beautiful. I took a min to just appreciate the bar area decor and lighting.

When you walk into Izakaya Nana it's like walking into the alleyways of Japan. The booths were also well decorated too (there was one with one piece images on the wall), disappointingly though the one I was in had very dark lighting so my dad had to use his phone flashlight to see the menu. For our food we ordered the hako sushi, tornado omelette fried rice, trio tuna sushi roll, yakitori platter (ordered chicken gizzard and gyu harami on the side) and the A5 Wagyu cooked on the stone grill. I recommend getting the yakitori platter as it's a nice sampler but my husband especially enjoyed the chicken gizzard. My dad never had wagyu before so he especially loved the wagyu but I do think it's expensive for the amount they give you, I can see why it's pricier but just know before you order it's like $45 for 2.5 oz or in our case about 5 thin slices of wagyu. My brother said the tornado omelette was tasty and filling and he enjoyed it. The trio tuna sushi roll was very fresh. As for the service, I think everyone was pleasant but the vibes were a little off, it seems like they were just very exhausted. This doesn't affect the quality of the food or the experience but it was just something I noticed. They were still very attentive and provided great service. The reason for the one star off is because I do wish the Hako sushi had a bit more flavor, I saw so many different ingredients and fish but none of the flavors were impactful, it was rather one dimensional which was disappointing because it was presented so beautifully. Overall, I recommend giving Izakaya nana a try and I would definitely go again to try other things.

Met up with friends over the weekend to catch up. Glad we chose this place. Such a neat place with good ambiance and decor is fun. Tough to choose since wanted to try lots on the menu. Started off with the raw oysters topped with uni which tasted very fresh. The crazy nana roll was a unique take of shrimp tempura , spicy tuna, mango, eel, avocado and crab. Lots going on but explosion of flavor. The unadon was eel over rice which was a big portion of eel. Sweet and tasty. Overall great night of food and company.

From the moment we walked in, we knew this place was special. We brought our family here right after picking them up from the airport, and it turned out to be the perfect first stop. Everyone was absolutely amazed--not only by the incredible food, but by the beautiful atmosphere. It honestly felt like we had stepped into a little corner of Japan. Every dish was beautifully presented, the portions were generous, and the flavors were authentic and unforgettable. You can truly tell that every detail is thoughtfully prepared, from the quality of the ingredients to the artistic presentation. The restaurant is immaculate, creating a welcoming and relaxing environment. On top of that, the staff is exceptionally friendly, attentive, and genuinely cares about making your experience memorable. If you're looking for authentic Japanese cuisine in a beautiful setting with outstanding service, this place is a must-visit. It exceeded all of our expectations, and we can't wait to bring more friends and family back. Highly, highly recommended!

Beautiful ambiance!! I love how this place was decorated it gave such a real Japan vibe! We got to sit in one of the more private places too so I loved that. Their food was delicious u can tell the chefs are good.

One of the many rooms, each decorated in a different theme.

I absolutely love going to Nana! The atmosphere is seriously breath taking and relaxing. The staff are kind and friendly. I love their ramen and California rolls. Especially love drinking their Sapporo beer . The place to go if you want to relax, drink and enjoy your stay with an environment that makes you feel like you are in a different world.

I saw tons of great reviews for Izakaya Nana, so my friends and I decided to check it out. We didn't have a reservation and were quoted a 35 minute wait, but ended up being seated in under 10 minutes around 9 PM. PSA: after 10 PM, I believe sake and oysters are buy one get one free! Here's everything we ordered: Yakitori platter - 7 assorted skewers. Solid. The pork belly being the standout for me. Fried soft shell crab - tasted good, but it seemed like only half a crab instead of a full one, which was a bit disappointing. Karaage chicken - nicely fried and paired with a mayo based sauce, but the chicken was dry. Sashimi platter - fresh and well presented. No complaints here. Mentaiko cream udon - just OK. Not as creamy as expected and a bit bland. The dish didn't really stand out. Impossible Unadon - definitely worth it! Grilled eel with tamago over rice, generous portion. Tornado omelette fried rice - the egg was slightly overcooked so it lacked that creamy texture, but the fried rice and curry had great flavor. Overall, the food was good but not exceptional. I've had better, but it's still worth trying.

Izakaya Nana Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Izakaya Nana

    Do they have parking?

No parking. So come early to scout for a spot. Took us awhile to finally find a spot and it was 2 blocks away.

Do you have Non-Alcoholic Beer options, or mock tails?

Yes for mocktails. You can get a free one with a Yelp check-in. This was true when I went back in Nov '23.

    Do you take american express?

    Yes they do

Do we have to pay for the private room and if so how much?

No, you don't need. But recommend to make a reservation for it

Is there a happy hour from what time?

    From 10pm to 1AM

    Is reservation optional or must?

Not a must, but highly recommended or you will have to wait a while.

    Do the restaurant have parking?

No it doesn't. Street parking at best and you need to watch the times posted as when you can or can not park. There is a small private parking lot in the block east of the restaurant entrance but there is no affiliation. Do not try and park in…

    What is parking like?

You can park in front at the meters on the street and at night they have an arrangement with the garage for a mechanic next door so you can park there after they are closed

Can i bring my nephew here? He is 8 years old

Absolutely! He will love it. They have a claw machine in the waiting area and the presentation of the food is really enjoyable that he would be impressed. He may even develop a liking for Japanese food/cuisine/culture.…

But at last, as I searched on DoorDash I stumbled upon this glorious restaurant they call Izakaya Fuku. I was drawn to the adorable names for their sushi roll dishes like "Strawberry Fields" and their Italian Japanese fusion pasta dishes, "Creamy Mentaiko Bacon Pasta" with creamy mayonnaise, spicy cod roe and bacon like are you kidding me? It's a bummer I wasn't more hunger or that I didn't have more bucks in my wallet because I wanted all these dishes. And the Chirashi Don, god it looks so beautiful the way that it's arranged in the photos online. I finally decided on the carbonara. And I was drawn to the fact that it was udon based. Now, I've just been living in hawaii these past years so that Japanese twist on an Italian dish that I just love oh so much really brought me back to missing the islands and the Asian spins they had on cuisines. Now my food may have not come in a jiffy but for after midnight cravings I'd say it was well worth the wait. And my oh my the portion was huge!!!! I slurped that big boy up. It was SOOO delicious and savory. I love comfort food and this had me in carbonara heaven. I loved indulging into every single last bite. By the looks of the picture the restaurant looks lovely, I'd love to stop there and try it in person. Thank you. Thank you! My belly and my heart are very much satisfied.

An Unforgettable Omakase Experience!…read more We celebrated the 4th of July with an incredible omakase dinner at Masaki, and it exceeded every expectation. Every course was beautifully presented, impeccably fresh, and perfectly balanced. From the delicate Red Sea Bream and buttery Scallop to the luxurious Toro with Caviar, Sweet Shrimp with Uni, and the unforgettable Eel with Foie Gras, each bite was a masterpiece. What truly elevated the evening was Michael, our sushi chef. He was warm, engaging, and exceptionally knowledgeable. He took the time to explain every course, the origin of the fish, the flavors, and the best way to enjoy each piece. His passion for his craft was evident, and his attention to detail made the entire experience feel personal and memorable. Dining at the sushi bar gave us a front-row seat to watch the artistry behind every piece. The quality of the ingredients, the precision of the preparation, and the genuine hospitality made this one of the finest omakase experiences we've ever had. I honestly wasn't expecting much but the service based solely for the Omakase blew me away. The Omakase bar was in the back of the restaurant hidden away. The space was very open and the ambience was chic. This is a great place for date night, mommy night out, or group hangouts as they have private rooms too. Every piece tasted very fresh and were quite unique. The steam silky egg appetizer with crabmeat and fish roe was simple yet delicious. One of the dishes was an uni toro roll that was placed on top of our hands and was sprayed with edible gold glitter on us. That was a surprise and it was cute. And that uni just melts in your mouth. We had this matcha pudding with I think had an Oreo sprinkle in it was fabulous. They also surprised us with an extra dessert cause it was all 3 of our birthdays. Very enjoyable experience. Our sushi chef was very accommodating and made our birthday dinner memorable. We originally started out with the summer special of $78pp for a 12 course meal and decided to upgrade to the 14 course meal for $98pp. There was an option for a 17 course meal for $138pp but we were very full towards the end. They also had this $30 lunch and $60 dinner 3 course meal set for restaurant week. My friend's mom wasn't a fan of raw stuff so she ordered the Chilean sea bass with risotto and she wasn't a huge fan of it. The fish was a tad overcooked and the overall presentation of the dish looked more of a Chinese fusion dish. The risotto had that cheesy flavor but the presentation with the Bok Choy and the risotto looked more like fried rice and was confusing. I would stick with the omakase, which this place is known for.

First time coming for lunch and I was impressed! The combo for $19.99 includes appetizer, soup,…read moresoda and entree. Was a great deal. I enjoyed my miso soup, chicken wing apps and pork curry katsu entree. I bought the soda home. Service was great. Food came quick and the ambiance is nice in there.

Wafuu finally opened! We've been waiting for months for this izakaya to open. The outside looked…read moreready for a long time and the inside is gorgeous with dark woods and wood slat walls. The bar looks cool and there are even sakura branches up in the ceiling. I wonder if they are waiting for the printer to deliver real menus because these stapled together printer sheets are really getting ragged even after only a month. The food pics are nice though. And you can use the QR code laminated to the table to order. We did it the old-fashioned way by politely speaking to our server. We got a variety of dishes to share, starting with the Yakitori platter. For $19.99, you can choose 5 skewers from the a la carte selections (except for the pricier seafood skewers). They were grilled and seasoned well. I really liked the Fried Kaki (aka kaki fry, fried oysters). The breaded oysters were tender, fresh & juicy. We also shared Chicken Yakiudon, Yakiniku Don & Pork Katsu Don. The yakiudon was very good and the katsu was crispy and generously sized. I did not like the sauce on the beef in yakiniku don. The texture tasted strange. I'll try the gyudon next time. There are a lot of restaurants on this block with a variety of ethnic cuisines and I would make Wafuu a regular spot when we come to Forest Hills.
