My in laws live not far from here and enjoy this spot. We came for a bit of a family reunion with a cousin of my father in laws. It was a pretty special event and the staff could not have been more incredible. Hands down the best part was our server who was so much fun, trading jokes about being from Missouri, she. Was. Amazing. Everyone though was friendly, held the front door open for us, brought us our orders quickly and above all were just nice people. We started with the calamari and it was really good. Our two teenage boys were literally raving about the burgers for days to come...and they've eaten a lot of burgers in their lives, lol! I rate based on food mainly but I will have to start by saying how amazing their customer service was. Everyone was attentive for our huge group, nice, and cordial. I'm from out of town and I don't remember a time where I could order sushi AND prime rib at the same time. This place offered sushi, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and steaks. The sushi threw me off but I really wanted my rib eye and sushi rolls for dinner now?? I ended up ordering the rib eye medium rare. Calamari for an appetizer and got a taste of their chocolate cake and carrot cake. The calamari was tasty, not overly breaded. However, for the price of the rib eye I wish it was at least bone in or dry aged. I ordered it medium rare, and it was just so chewy. The mash that came with it was smooth and buttery - that was perfect. I would give this place a second try next time I'm in town, we were a group of 30+ and everyone loved what they got. So maybe my 3 star will be a 4 next time. The carrot was amazing with shredded carrots in it. The chocolate cake I need to warn you to order milk with it. I have been coming here over 20 years, and the last couple times has not been the best. This has been my favorite go to restaurant for special occasions for years, but food quality has gone down. Came here a couple weeks ago after Christmas shopping at about 9 PM just to grab a healthy salad with a friend. Taste was good, but it was the size of a tiny side salad. For $20 it seemed like a joke, but we were too tired to order anything else. The time before we came with my husband, and his pasta was served cold to him. He said he won't come back either. This place is nostalgic for me - used to go all the time with my family in FL. The ambiance and service are lovely and comforting. The food is consistently great. My dad got the roasted chicken and ate every last bit of it. I loved my veggie burger, it's the second time I've ordered it and each time I was pleased. LOVE Redlands Grill by J. Alexander's! Great steakhouse with perfectly cooked cuts of steaks, but not totally unreasonably expensive either. If you're an appetizer person you must try the Fire Grilled Artichoke. All I can say is yum! For my main course I always get the Filet with Béarnaise and it is to die for. They have a nice selection of wine and excellent martinis. My personal favorite is the espresso martini. read more

It's been a year or more since I was here. I had reservations which was a good thing since the restaurant was full. The problem that I had was when we arrived 10-15 minutes early the hostess made us wait even though there were few empty tables when we arrived. We watched her and another hostess chitchat until they were ready. As far as the food my wife's fish was cooked to perfection. My ribeye steak was seriously overcooked (ordered medium). It came out with black charred on the bottom to hide the burnt side. The side dishes were good with each entree. The service was awesome. I always loved J. Alexander's when we lived in Nashville. So while visiting Denver I had to go. It was as always, amazing food and top notch service. Our waitress was Paula and she was absolutely wonderful. Both friendly and knowledgeable. The food was great. While I always loved the chocolate cake dessert, we elected to go with the candy bar cake (can't remember the name, but had toffee, snickers, Oreo and other stuff). It was really good and huge, could easily feed 4 people. However, I'd still have to go back to either the chocolate cake or carrot cake. We have been coming here for years. The management must be phenomenal because the staff has been amazing. We are happy everytime we have come and the one time we weren't management came over and fixed it immediately. This is our treat to ourselves and the kids. We came to J Alexanders to celebrate our anniversary. We've always liked going there for special occasions. We haven't been for a while. I have to say we were disappointed. The Caesar salad was not good at all. The lettuce has rust spots and had very little green pieces. No bread was served. The biggest disappointment was that I was looking straight into the kitchen. Not where they were preparing food. Just moving, I don't know what, in large plastic bins. For a $200 meal, I would think they could put doors into the kitchen. read more

I have many fond memories of this restaurant, from the years we spent in Denver. I came here (far too often) for lunch with my colleague. She and I would swoop in, order a burger and fries each, and spend the hour grubbing, chatting and forgetting the office. I knew that I wanted at least one meal here while we were in Denver recently. My husband obliged (he didn't dine here nearly as frequently as me, but he did like the food). We ended up treating his parents to a late dinner here, and while that was a struggle on its own, at least the food was delicious. When we sat down, I knew what I was going to order. I glanced at the menu just for fun, but knew that I'd order the cheeseburger with bacon and fries. Boom, done. My husband and in-laws, meanwhile, took their ever-loving time perusing the menu (my in-laws harping over the cost of this and that and everything the whole time...) My husband decided to order the calamari and deviled eggs to start (*grumble, grumble* goes my father-in-law), and the French dip sandwich for his own meal. My mother-in-law got the fish tacos, and my father-in-law got the steak burger with fries. I wish we would have ordered the grilled artichokes - that was my favorite appetizer, when dining with my husband. The deviled eggs came out first, and they were good. They had a tiny piece of bacon on top, and the yolk part was tasty. My in-laws weren't fans, but my husband and I enjoyed them. The calamari came out soon after, but I didn't get a whole lot (I wanted to make sure everyone else got what they wanted, and since the in-laws weren't fans of the deviled eggs...) Finally, the long-awaited burger was set down in front of me. Back in the day, I used to ask for a side of ranch, and my colleague would ask for a side of the honey mustard dressing. We'd dip the delectable fries in those as we ate. In a nod to her, I ordered both dressings for the fries, and my father-in-law and I shared. The burger was just as good as I remembered it: juicy, flavored well, perfectly cooked, with crispy bacon on top. The fries were also just as wonderful; crispy, thin cut, mounded on the plate. My husband and father-in-law both really loved their sandwiches, but I could tell my mother-in-law wasn't in love with the tacos, though she never admitted that. We ended up with quite a bit of food, which my in-laws took home with them (since we were visiting). Our waiter was friendly and patient with us, even though it was very late. The building is large, mostly full, and there are only two handicap parking spaces. Not nearly enough for such a large crowd. We had to walk a fair distance due to this.
