Got one and asked another waiter to find us another one. We asked for rolls and more water. Got the water, no rolls, but our meals came out and that was ok. But this was our anniversary dinner of 28 years. When I made the reservation I put down anniversary. I saw on the table card left for the waiter by the hostess, anniversary. Not one congratulations or anything special. Why ask then on the reservation? My husband ordered the salmon. He said it was blah. He's ordered it here before and usually Ioves it. I walked in here and was immediately biased to give it a good review. I really liked the layout, the servers, and SMELL. It smelled so tasty. It reminded me of the up-scale chain restaurant Houston's I wish I had posted their Buttermilk Onion Ring appetizer picture, but I never took one. It looked really cool. So, the onion rings were huge, and they came with both a spicy mayo and a side of ketchup. I really liked it, however as I continued to eat it, and without any of the dipping sauces, I realized that the onion rings had a little too much heat on them. Now, I like hot stuff, but the breading of an onion ring should not be spicy, and it was, it was weird, but I still would give the rings a 3.5 My SIL got the Prime Rib and mac and cheese, which she liked, however, she said she didn't really know it was Prime Rib until she put the plate under the light, it's as if she had to tell her mind that what she was eating was Prime Rib. She gives it 3 stars. My wife got the crab cakes and they did a good job on it, very little filler, but there was still something about, given how much crab they used that I felt they could have done more to make it fresh. I would give it a 3, the wife gives them a 4. Now, for my Salmon sandwich and my wife's uncle's Burger...Both of them were dry. AND, he got his steak burger medium rare (pink inside) and he said it was still dry. My Salmon was certainly dry and there wasn't enough dressing on the bun of my Salmon sandwich. Another complaint about the burger is the bun. This is a nice place and the bun was so lame (pictures say 1000 words). Last issue I had was with their fries. I understand that the fries were/are shoestring fries, but it tasted like I was eating fried food and not fried potato. This place has the freshest food -- I mean, fresh!! Great big portions. Staff is very attentive and helpful. We come here often and always know we will get a fantastic meal. Our waters were not filled often enough and they did not follow instructions when they served our drinks. We ordered the Calamari and Mexico City Spinach con Queso to start. Nothing special. The calamari was oily and not crispy. The chips should be homemade but they are not. My dish was the Steak Burger which I requested to be served medium rare but was told the patty falls apart at that temperature...which means the patty is too thin... Or not molded properly. I still ordered it. I was also told it is served on a French baguette...to make the sandwich look taller by piling on thick bread. Still ordered it...*sigh* Tue server recommended the Not Your Ordinary Mac and Cheese for my side. By the way, sides are A la carte. Nothing but a lonely sandwich on your plate if you do not order a side at an additional cost. The entree was costly enough. They can at least serve with a garnish so to trick our minds into thinking there is more to the dish. My burger was overpowered by the baguette. The patty was small. The mac and cheese was tasty. Too rich and creamy but definitely worth the taste. For dessert we ordered the Key Lime Pie and Carrot Cake. The pie was excellent. Tart and extra fluffy cream with a crunchy crust. I feel like he cake was microwaved to make it warm...unimpressive. They do serve a large piece enough for sharing. If you skip this place, you are not missing anything. read more

I have loved J. Alexander's for the better part of a decade. My recent experience, July 2022, changed that, unfortunately. We hadn't sat in the restaurant for quite some time given the pandemic, but thought we'd sit in this time to celebrate my birthday. From entering, the hostess team was there but not super friendly. We waited at the entrance with no greeting or instructions while they handled other things. We were then seated and our waitress came in a timely manner. We placed an order for the chips and queso. No joke it took nearly 20 minutes to be brought to our table. I also felt the serving size of the chips was much more sparse than it used to be. We waited nearly another 15 minutes before ordering and I had to flag down a different waitress who then went to get our waitress. Mind you, we arrived around 4pm and there were very few customers to wait on. Finally, our order came out. I ran out of drink and surprisingly, had to call out to the waitress after she walked passed and didn't address our empty glasses. By around 5:30pm, the restaurant and the service seemed to pick up a bit and we were surprised how quickly new tables were served and their food came out. The J. Alexander's I used to love had epic service and was a good value. No matter your server, ALL servers attended to you and brought drinks before I could even ask for them. They were also professional and attentive. The food was a great value because while not the cheapest, it wasn't the most expensive either, but it was delicious. Now, the food is still delicious but the prices are rising dramatically. My husband and I ordered chips to start and I had the chicken tenders and he had the prime rib. Before drinks, our bill was over $100. We skipped dessert. For this price now, it makes it harder to choose to go to J Alexander's against other luxury options. Moreover, their chill jazzy music and darker ambiance I loved is now gone. It was brightly lit and they were playing totally different music we could barely hear. Finally, I used to LOVE their happy hour apps and drinks from 4-6, but sadly, they retired that some time ago. read more

Honestly this used to be my absolute favorite place to eat they had the best salad starter salad ( it was a kale salad) they had fabulous onion rings they had delicious calamari they still have the wonderful french fries but they got rid of the onion rings and they got rid of the calamari and onion rings my favorite things and they were so good and easy to share with dinner partners. I am just really disappointed that they aren't bringing them back. every time I come here I ask them to!!! I can honestly say I have mixed feelings about J. Alexander's. I am basing this review solely on my last visit a couple weeks ago. The prior visits was so distasteful that I decided it was a bad night and did not want to post about it. My wife and I went on a Saturday night in season. That almost guarantees a packed house. To no surprise it was extremely busy. We were lucky enough to score a couple of seats at the bar quickly. As it was an hour wait (or more) we decided to eat at the bar. It was great (so different than last visit) the bartender were great and right on point with drinks and food. I had a fish "sandwich" which was so big no roll was required, but it was there. My wife had a Thai salad you thought was great. They really did an excellent job and earned our business back again. It just reminds me that Service can make or break your reputation. I was so close to scratching them off my list. The dining room staff should be half what the bar staff was, great job. read more

We had traveled and reached our Palm Beach Garden destination at dinner time. I had been to their locations in other cities, so I knew going in, it was going to be ok. It was better than ok. Christy was our server and she was attentive when we needed her to be. We had a fresh fish sandwich and steak & frites. We had a very credible glass of Washington Pinot. All were perfect. Try the deviled eggs! For a large chain they do a good job. Yelp seems to respond. I'm sure there is one near your neighborhood. Note to management. J Alexader's in Palm Beach Gardens offers first rate atmosphere with an adequate ala carte food menu served with a side of minor corporate chisels. The first thing you notice is no bread. That's the cheap corporate niggle. We didn't miss it that much but we noticed and it came across as tacky. None of the entrees come with a salad but the $6 side salad is generous and quite good. All in all, I'd rather pay for the salad and get a nice one than take the anemic cup of lettuce that passes as a side salad at most restaurants. My wife ordered the 10oz fillet with a baked potato and the steak was cooked perfectly. Hers was excellent and the meat portion was generous. I ordered the Pasta Yaya and that was a huge mistake. The sauce tasted like spicy tomato paste and it actually buried the decent parts of the dish. It didn't help that the penne pasta was dry as Death Valley in the summer but that wouldn't have helped much even it was cooked perfectly. I've actually seen trauma patients in the ER that were more appetizing. I ordered it, it was my fault, but I assign contributory negligence to the waitress who later admitted it wasn't her favorite. At least have the decency to warn people or ask them if they've had it before. TL; DR For what you pay to eat at J. Alexander's you can go down the road a bit to Texas de brazil and have a much better meal for the same money. Skip this one. The food overpriced for what you get. read more
