One of my favorite establishments in the area. A tad overpriced, but they are consistent, and provide good quality food. Some superlative entrees in my opinion are the French dip, fish tacos, and prime rib. Excellent side dishes include the macaroni and cheese as well as the French fries. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgable, and are generally very helpful with any requests. I look forward to visiting again soon. read more

While this spot is not exactly fine dining, it does get the job done when you're hungry. They're fairly consistent, have a decent wine list, and normally don't have too long a wait because they are a large establishment. That being said, service can sometimes be spotty, but I guess that is kind of the nature of a large, busy restaurant. read more

Have been here a couple time since it was renamed and thought it was good. Had a horrible experience last night. A few minutes after being seated a Waitress came by and asked if we wanted drinks which we ordered. Ran off quickly and did not check in for an hour to see if we wanted to order dinner. We requested to see the manager and when she came over she simply asked what she could get for us. We were clearly a "bother". The manager never used the word sorry or apologized for the horrible service in anyway. Seriously will not return based on the attitude of the management. Very disappointing! read more

My friend Emily and I journeyed to J Alexanders on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Our server was named Tyler, and he was not only incredibly professional, but also aesthetically pleasing in the best way. Service was quick and food was delicious per usual. Would highly recommend ordering Mr. Jack's Crispy Chicken Platter and the Spinach Artichoke dip and asking for Tyler to be your server. 11/10 recommend. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. The locations in Birmingham and Perimeter are better, imo. Lunch today was interesting. Our waitress seemed very young and unexcited about working.. she disappeared for long stretches of time and didn't seem in a rush to run our cards (after we asked another waiter to track her down), even though the child with us had started to scream because things were taking so long. We went on Valentine's Day and had reservations. We walked in and was escorted to our table. From the minute we got there to the time we left was perfect. The wine was great, the food was great. You can tell the Caesar salad dressing was home made. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and my wife's ribs were delicious. We had crème brûlée for desert, enough said. Went there with my wife and 3 other couples on a weekday night. The place was packed and lively, surprising for a large place like this on a weekday. Ladies started with a bottle of white wine after trying out a couple of samples that the waiter happily brought over. A few of the guys ordered beer that took a long time to bring. Looking around, I felt like they were understaffed for such a big place. We shared 3 salads without the meat that came with them. The salads were good. I could tell they were using high quality ingredients like good Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. I had their special surf and turf that was a 6 oz filet and shrimp for $35, a little too steep specially considering the shrimp they used were very small, probably a 20+ per pound size. I thought the food with all the sauce and the mashed potato was heavy, typical of most American steak houses. Someone ordered a small plate of their macaroni and cheese that had bacon, Parmigiano Regiano Reggiano and Gruyere cheese inside. It tasted good, but again heavy for me. Overall, I would call this a typical steakhouse with steakhouse fare and on the pricey side. I think the bill with tip came to about $65 per person and you can get much better food for that price elsewhere. read more

I have been to this restaurant a few times, the last was when my distributor took me and a co-worker last Thursday. We go because its super close to the office. I went during lunch (Around 12) and it was Packed. We only waited about 5 minutes for a table. To drink: I got sweet tea and a water. Normally when I go out to eat if I drink all of my tea and the waitress doesn't return to fill it I start on the water. The farther down the water goes, the farther down the tip goes... I NEVER touched the water. The waitress was great, and very friendly. We didnt do apps, we were too busy talking. To Eat: I ordered one of the specials- shrimp tacos, and it came with one side... I picked a side salad. The salad arrived before all of the other food, and it was HUGE. It did not look like a "Side" salad whatsoever! Complete with tomato, onion, shredded cheese, croutons, bacon bits (That actually tasted like real smoked bacon)...This salad had it all! I ended up getting half of it put into a togo box. Then the shrimp tacos came. There were two of them on the plate, regular sized. They were FILLED with lightly breaded fried shrimp (I ended up taking about 3 shrimp out of each taco just so I could bite into it...)! They could have easily added a third taco to this plate. The shrimp tacos also had lettuce, cheese, and cilantro. They came with a "Thai Bang Bang sauce"- this was a spicy sauce, with a thin consistency... I tried it, but preferred ranch. we didnt get any deserts or anything else, but I went home with enough salad for lunch the next day as well! It's so commonplace to read a review saying 'I wish I could give this place six stars!' I've never understood that; instead, I will simply say that after eating here, I finally logged in to Yelp *JUST* so I could write a review of this place. Such was the experience that I actually felt that there was no other task more important than to share my opinions on the place with the rest of the world. I came into town on business, and after a long day I decided to go someplace nice for my last night. What can I say? I was completely blown away by the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, and the classy atmosphere. I've seen more 'upscale' restaurants in LA and NYC, and have certainly seen more expensive ones, but what stuck out was how much the employees here seem to genuinely care about You the Individual, rather than simply You the Wallet. It's really not difficult to tell when someone is going through the motions and mailing in their effort, because true quality is something that simply cannot be faked. Jack, the manager, was extremely helpful and attentive, and my waiter never once failed to bring my food or a refill at the absolute perfect time. If you could imagine having an entire staff there to serve only you - but without the exorbitant costs of a mansion to house them - this would probably be it. If you could use the word 'doting' without the negative connotation, that might be the best descriptor. I felt like I actually mattered, and to be perfectly honest, that's the only thing that a customer is ever going to take away with them. I had the croque madame, and it has come as close to changing my life as any meal is likely to. I even ate the greens, down to the last shred of a leaf - which, considering that I am someone who detests anything that even vaguely resembles a salad, should speak volumes as to my reaction upon first tasting it. I was very nearly at the point of a nervous breakdown as the meal progressed, because I knew that each morsel I savoured would only bring the meal closer to an end. And dare I say that the sourdough is actually better than what I found back home in San Francisco (the so-called 'capital' of sourdough, now revealed to be merely a pretender to the throne), and risk losing my Bay Area Authenticity Card? Why, yes, yes I will in fact say that, and your judgmental thoughts are meaningless to me. This was bread baked by the One True God from the purest wheat grown in Elysian fields, which in turn were likely watered by the tears of angels. Does it get better? Why, yes, yes it does. The Very Best Chocolate Cake is precisely that: the most delectable dessert you are ever likely to taste. Thick, rich, and accompanied by a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream, all resting above a lattice of chocolate that cris-crosses over a plate larger than the upper body of most children. Mortal tongues were never meant to be blessed with such a delicacy, but there it is - ready to be devoured by you, the fortunate customer. Would I go back? Christ almighty, I would come to Georgia JUST to eat here. Diplomats could resolve global conflicts by sharing a meal here. But the real question is: should YOU go there? Ate at Redlands last night and had good experience overall. Restaurant has beautiful ambiance and elegant feel. Staff is plentiful and well trained to work as a team to provide service. My steak Maui was not tender and they graciously replaced it with their filet which was excellent. The carrot cake is a bit unconventional (single layer with lots of decadent warm icing) but really worth coming here for. I was very impressed that my server Valentin noticed I left my container of leftovers and made the special effort to rush our to the parking lot to find my car and deliver it to me. We went on Mother's Day and she mentioned that she had been there since around 10am (our reservation was for 7:30pm) and she still provided us with the awesome service as she would have for her very first table of the day as well as amazing recommendations!!! She was so sweet and very attentive!!! I had the pork tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly! We had the white chocolate cheesecake for dessert and it was so delicious!!! I have been to J. Alexander's a few times lately and will certainly be returning regularly. Our server every time, Chris, was a refreshing change from the usual service I have seen in the area. He was very polite and quick with details. Not one to tell you their life story or seem too busy to attend to us. He must have been there for a long time. He remembers my drink order. The citrus mojito was the best I have had in years. My food came out quicker than I could finish my water glass. I was very impressed with the crab cakes. My friend orders them every time. They seemed very fresh so I followed those with fish tacos. The chili mayonnaise was a little spicy for me. Try the "Not Your Ordinary Mac and Cheese!" Overall, a great place for professional, affordable lunch. It gets crowded on weekend nights, but don't let the wait (if you don't have a reservation) discourage you. CALLING ALL VIKINGS! I had a lovely little "lady lunch" with my girls today. This was my first visit to J's and it did not disappoint. Although, I would like to see a more varied lunch menu. Today, I chose the Rattlesnake pasta and it was RICH! I am talking naughty, don't ever do that again rich. It was straight cream, butter pasta, chicken and mixed sweet peppers. It is six hours later and I am still good. I rarely eat pasta so I took a risk and while it was nice, I would never eat it again. This was Viking food reserved for men who go out and plunder ships and of course, King Henry VIII. I can't imagine that this specific dish was created with the average person in mind. I could seriously feel my doctor giving me "side eye" as I ate this dish. In addition to the pasta, I sampled the veggie burger and it was incredible. It was very well seasoned and had a smoky taste. On my next visit, I plan on having the veggie burger with only a bottom bun and the grilled zucchini which looked delicious. If I go with my husband, I will share a slice of carrot cake because my girlfriend raved about how delicious it tastes. We'll see, but it can't possibly be as good as mine :). Anyway, I don't understand how people go out and eat an appetizer and an entree or entree and dessert as all of the dishes were very filling. I was the only one who actually finished the entire meal and I only had pasta. If this is lunch, I can't even imagine the dinner options, (Vikings on steroids-YIKES!) The ambiance and decor was on point, dark and muted which made for a very relaxing and enjoyable meal. Customer service was great today as we had a "Chatty Cathy" as our waitress.
