We can with a party of 4 to celebrate an early Father's Day. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. We started with the fire grilled artichokes. They were pretty good but a lot of it was inedible because they got burnt in the grill. For our entree 3 of us ordered steaks and one person had the crab cakes. The NY strip and Ribeye were requested to be a MR to Medium, but both came well done and dry. The filet was ordered at same temperature and came out correctly. 2 out of the 3 steaks being cooked incorrectly wasn't ideal. The crab cakes were good but a bit dry. As for ambiance, it wasn't too busy so we enjoyed the environment. Our server was also very kind. Likely won't be going back to have a steak, but maybe a burger or pasta next time. read more

This at some point was my favorite steak house, and technically it probably still is because the food's pretty great for the price point. I would say that almost every time I've been there, my food has either been near perfect or perfect - I love the prime rib, steak maui, ribeye (all medium rare) and their lobster mac and cheese is insanely delicious. The only reason I'm taking off a star is because the last time I went the experience was WAY different - in a bad way. I brought my whole family visiting from out of country, and we ordered steaks, and well, every steak was way too well done. When they came by with my prime rib, I must've made a face because they asked if everything was fine, and I said, well I ordered medium rare... and the server immediately said oh... this is not medium rare. They proceeded to bring out another one that was still kind of too well done but then told us that is all they had to offer. I get that it's slow roasted so if there's nothing that's medium rare, then they can't do anything about it - but it would've been a lot better if they just told me from the start when I first ordered the medium rare. At one point I had to pull up my previous prime rib pictures to show them the temperature I wanted (which is what they did so well before). Our wait person was awesome, although the restaurant appeared to be rather short-handed, and it took a while to get her attention at times. While most of our food was exceptional, the child's chicken alfredo was not. Instead of a creamy parmesan sauce, some type of cheese was added, which did not fully melt, leaving left the pasta floating in cheesy grease. I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc, then asked for another. The coloring and taste of the two were completely different. Our waitress was told that it was because the first was from an old bottle and the second bottle had just been opened. I have been here plenty of times but never to this location. They never disappoint & here was a great example. When I was 1st seated another young lady came to ask me my drink order & appetizer before my real server arrived. I asked for the soup & a lemon drop martini with raspberry. My server Aryanna was very sweet & even told me she was fairly new. We even joked about the ridiculous dark weather so soon. I ended up ordering the special Montreal ribeye & the salmon dip as well. While on a short stay I had the pleasure of stopping in at this awesome place for the evening. The staff were super friendly and steered me towards their favorite menu items with a bit of encouragement from me. The burger.... this has to be the BEST sit down restaurant type burger I've ever had. That's pure magic in the meat of this Old Fashion burger. The grilled zucchini was a first for me, no regrets there. The chocolate cake and old fashion vanilla ice cream rounded the bases for an in the park home run! read more

This is one of my favorite regular stops. We come once or twice a month or more. We love their Roasted Artichokes with remoulade. It is our favorite appetizer. This time however it was delivered to the table charred black! I suspect if the manager knew, they would be embarrassed and ticked at their staff that should know better than to deliver that to the table. We sent it back and the 2nd batch came out warm with cold centers. When we asked, they did take it back and heat it for us. The hot towels that are usually brought to the table ... had to be requested by us and were brought when we were half way into our entrees. The waitstaff was inattentive to but nice. She started out great but allowed our dirty dishes from our appetizers to remain on the table for too long. We just wonder what is happening here since the last times we have eaten here there's have been food or staff issues or both. We have been coming here to JAlexanders for years and frequently bring friends. We hope they tighten up on the details that have always made them great. We hope they get back to being reliably consistent for great food and service. We will give it another shot soon because we don't want to have to give up one of our favorite restaurants....We shall see. read more

It took awhile for us to get back here but so, so glad we did. Devon the bartender definitely took care of us, super attentive, no complaints here. Salad was tasty and fresh, tuna on point, calamari was probably my favorite, until I tasted my boyfriends babyback ribs and realized what he had was tastier than the appetizer and my entree (still, the ahi tuna salad was great and I highly recommend the calamari for the appetizer). Food truly is incredible this time around. Perhaps the first time was a fluke, because this visit had amazing service and food was insanely tasty. Jeff H. is the manager and gave us a warm welcome. When got there on a Saturday around 6:15pm. It was pretty full but no waiting at the hostess stand. We asked for a table for two and was told just a minute. It seemed they were just deciding on which table to seat us. Then two couples came in after us and were seated ahead of us while we were standing 10 feet away clearly in view. I stepped forward and asked why were not being seated and was met with a puzzled "Oh". We were promptly taken to our table next. When our waitress came up she told us we were listed as getting a free appetizer. No doubt for the delay... nice recovery. A hot crispy plate of $16 calamari and all was forgiven We both ordered salads ($6 with entree). I had the fish special with smashed potatoes and squash($27). Hubby had rotisserie chicken with smashed potatoes ($18). When my plate arrived it had broccoli instead of squash. It turned out to be a good thing though because once she brought the correct side item I didn't like it. The squash was served topped with butter, brown sugar and pine nuts, more like a sweet potato. We have been going to this restaurant for over 12 years, and it was always a favorite. We haven't been in a year and it has gone downhill. They no longer offer the croissant with honey. The Steak Maui was so tough that I had to send it back. The Oven Roasted Chicken was dry. The service was terrible. I've never had to wait to get a beverage (10 minutes). What should have been a 1 hour meal turned into 2 hours. Unfortunately, we will have to say goodbye. read more

Visited J. Alexander's several weeks ago after my doctor visit in Johns Creek. Had the salmon dip that I recalled having had 10 years ago. It's still on the menu and still delicious. Ordered a dip to take home. Only problem yelp showed the dip price as $13. Got my bill price was $16 each. I ask my waitress about the price difference. The manager appeared asking what was the problem. I told him about the price difference. He immediately corrected my bill allowing the $13 per dip price. But advised me the $13 price was the old price!! I'm back today having the dip that's a Todays Chef Recommendation $16! Interesting how the $16 updated price has been snook in!! Dinner here one evening with two colleagues. Ordered the White Bean soup, Pecan-crusted trout, with a side of sautéed spinach-spaghetti squash, plus water and a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It's Sunday night after Christmas and everyone is short staffed. BUT we had luck at Redland's! They didn't seat us until they knew they could care for us, about 25 minutes, but we're always grateful when a restaurant doesn't overwhelm their staff. Bonus, we got Olga for our server! The hamburger? Great. The Tuna? Perfectly rare! The broccoli and potatoes? Generous portions and perfectly executed as were the lovely warm carrot cake and perfect Knob Creek with one ice cube. I've always enjoyed the food here and found the service to be quite good. Today, however, I tried to reserve a table for 14 for a work-related event and was informed that they could only push two tables together to accommodate 12, squeezing in two more chairs. There's nothing worse than sitting shoulder to shoulder in a tight space at a dinner table. I requested a 3rd table and was denied by a manager. Same company basically just change of names etc. Always super friendly and pretty hosts and knowledgeable staff regarding food specials and overall menus. I got a filet Mignon and baked potato/delish. My guest had the salmon & sautéed spinach/spaghetti squash combo it wasn't great but I won't hold it against them. I came here for my early birthday dinner with my family. I ordered the Steak Maui and substituted the "Smash Potatoes" with their Cole Slaw. The complimentary bread came out but it wasn't my favorite since it's sour dough bread and I'm definitely not a fan of the sour after taste. So I waited patiently for my entree. Steak Maui - marinated ribeye with a side of "Smashed Potatoes" ($36) The waitress brought over my entree but my side was wrong.. instead of my cole slaw it was cous cous which I didn't want. So my waitress said she would bring it out. Out of curiosity, I tried it and it tasted like Ichiban ramen! How strange. I didn't care for it, so when my cole slaw came I ate it all. Haha! I really wanted to give this place five stars but the service at the bar particularly by Daphne really rubbed me the wrong way. I was looking for an off menu drink particularly a pomegranate lemon drop with a reposado tequila. Daphne proceeded to make a comment saying that I was at the wrong bar and I was an earshot of this comment. I have never gone to an establishment were an employee would feel so comfortable to say comments like that where a customer could hear. The ambiance of this restaurant is exquisite. Walking in, it's very dimly lit - there are tables in the middle and booths around the edges of the place. Kind of a sexy, date vibe but extremely appropriate for the night I had planned with my boyfriend. We hadn't been out together (just us 2) in a while - so I wanted to go somewhere he and I could chill, talk and be able to converse without yelling over the other. J. Alexander's was great. Now, just because the ambiance was nice doesn't mean they deserve 5 stars and I can definitely see why this place is rated 3.5 stars. I'm going to go on the low end and rate them with a 3 but if I could, I'd definitely give them a 3 and a half. The food was good. I got my usual prime rib and mashed potatoes. Since I've had this meal a dozen times from dozens of places, I'm very critical of my steak. The potatoes were too salty. I had to take a sip of my Shirley Temple after every bite. The steak wasn't quite cooked like I asked for it to be - which is medium. Not too pink but just a little strip of the middle. It was an average steak and potatoes meal. My waitress Fatima, was pretty friendly. She had moments when it seemed like she didn't want to be bothered and others when she was overly helpful so between the two she was average, I suppose. I really wanted this place to be superb but it meets average standards. I'd come again to have an appetizer and enjoy the ambiance but just for the food - I doubt it. read more

J. Alexander is my dad's favorite restaurant in Atlanta - he loves their Steak Maui. He always wants to go there but my mom and I always suggest other places - I like trying new places, and my mom doesn't want to spend the money. But from time to time, we do make a point to visit. This place is probably one of the few nicer restaurants in Norcross - very similar to Houston's (both the menu and ambiance). It's almost always packed - call ahead to get on their list, but FYI they don't take "reservations." ALEX SALAD - $5 (with entree) Their salads are always fresh, and the size is generous - honestly, it's enough to share among 3 people. I love their cilantro vinaigrette. They also offer complimentary croissants, upon request. STEAK MAUI - $27 Their marinated ribeye is probably my favorite, too. But while it's tasty, no surprise it's also on the fatty side ... I actually ended up with a small heap of fat pieces that I cut out. I had the loaded baked potato on the side which was just "eh", not temperature hot, and more sour cream than anything else. 1/2 ROTISSERIE CHICKEN - $16 I tried my mom's chicken which was on the salty side (even the parts w/o the skin), but I liked that it was very tender. She ordered the smashed potatoes for her side, which was pretty good. Service is always good. I'd recommend this place for business meals and/or special occasions. Disappointing! We were excited to try this place after looking at their website which is all about 'we're all about high quality and the customer experience". The restaurant is pretty--lots of nice booths and they did a great job social distancing. Here were our issues: 1. Water glass had a huge crack around the middle and down the side. Server replaced, but didn't seem too concerned. 2. When I unwrapped my silverware my knife had dried food all over it. This was not a dishwasher issue, this knife had clearly been used and wrapped up again without any washing. 3. There was another table nearby that had some kind of "bug" that another server was trying to catch, and when she didn't catch it, my husband saw the bug crawling under another table of guests. He told the server about it and she said, "Well, they don't know about it" and walked off. Yes, all three of the above happened in just our first visit. Wow. read more

This was our first visit after quarantine. Hand sanitizer was offered when we first entered. Our server Latisha was very quiet. As a guest, I greeted her first before she even say anything to me. The whole time we were there, I felt like she was having a bad day. It was a wonderful date with hubby and his brother but the atmosphere was weird because she literally didn't say a thing to us. Me and my girlfriend came for dinner, usually nowadays eating at Stage or H&W, but we decided to go back to J Alexander's as we used to frequently. Our service this time was below par for even a longhorn. Our server was cold and unfriendly and both steaks were well done when we asked for medium rare. The assumed manager Letita came to our table and questioned our decision making skills by belittling us and saying they were all correct but she will make them again for us. We also had to send a drink back as it was not how it usually is (my girlfriend's favorite drink for years), and she even questioned us on that. We will absolutely not be back. read more
