I have been coming here for several years now and that is recommendation enough in many ways. But I shall elaborate further. I really enjoy J. Alexander's Restaurant. That said you might want to time coming here around less busy times of the day and less busy days. This place is busy and it can be a long wait. We frequently get around this issue by eating outdoors whenever possible, which is a strategy that works well for us. Others may not enjoy that as much as we do. I am sure almost everyone knows this is a steak house place but they do have other options. I really love their Alex salad which has lettuce, bacon, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers and delicious croutons which I do not even usually eat. I love the light vinaigrette dressing they use on it too. Just perfect! This last time, I added grilled chicken to it and made it a meal. I wish they would lay off the peppering their chicken so much though. It is not a preference, it is an allergy. My Dad had the slow roast prime rib with a baked potato. They brought him mashed potatoes instead but he asked them to correct it and they did. Their baked potatoes are delicious. I know from my previous experiences. They are practically a meal in itself. My Mom had the Emerald Coast Shrimp and enjoyed them as usual. Great experience eating here! The service was excellent and the wait staff was incredibly helpful and sweet. We started with the spinach dip and it was so rich and delicious! It was hard to stop myself from eating the whole thing. I then had the crab cakes which were absolutely incredible! It was a little spicy but not too much. Seasoned beautifully and came with some yummy fries. One of my friends ordered carrot cake. I was reluctant to try it, because I don't like carrot cake. I decided to give it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised!!! It was rich of cinnamon flavor and slightly warm. It was very good and I ended up having more than one bite. I would recommend this place for dinner for sure! And would certainly come back here. read more

This place is expensive but the food is very good. Their wedge salad is good but their steaks are Great and cooked exactly the way you order them. Because of the food prices, they obviously have an upscale and attentive wait staff. The restaurant itself is upscale with great ambiance. What a great dining experience .... The Caesar salad was delivered to the table and at first glance I thought it appeared overdressed - can I say how wrong I was!!! It rates as one of my all time favs - the delicate garlic - the homemade croutons ... all the flavors melded to perfection. And then add on the filet for me and ribeye for him - from the first bite to the last was total satisfaction. What a nice place with a nice waiting area with nice artwork. The bar area is huge with even tables to eat at. We didn't have to wait long on a Sunday at 6:00pm. The server was super friendly and answered all of our questions and made some good small talk. We ordered the classic carrot cake which was served super moist, warm, and with hot cream cheese icing on top. It was very tasty though I like a cold carrot cake better--just my personal preference. Used to be 1 of my favorite restaurants until recently when I picked up Togo meal for 1,they surprise charged me 6%for Togo containers. Laughable right, especially that there was no warning, the response when asked why, they say it's more expensive for plastic containers than Styrofoam. Pathetic excuse. And to know that when dining in, there isn't a charge for Togo container. Not to mention that this 6%charge is just taking away from tips going into their pockets. Furthermore, there's no plastic utensils or napkin in to-go. And another comical note,Dennys has the exact same Togo plastic containers but doesn't charge for them at all. The greed is an embarrassment to the brand. I'm definitely bitter. This type of treatment you hear about done to tourists at beach restaurants, (which still is absurd) but to treat loyal local customers this way is just ugly. Pure Greed. This was our first time at J. Alexander in plantation Florida. Our rate was relatively short We were seated immediately. The service staff was very attentive and courteous. Our drinks and appetizers came fast and they were delicious, especially the fried shrimp and carpaccio. Most of us ordered prime rib and my son ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich. I have been a loyal customer to J Alexander's in Plantation for more than 15 years, dining in or taking out, at least weekly. On June 9th, I made a reservation for 8:30pm for a party of 3. However, a prior appt cancelled and we arrived at 7:30. We checked in with the hostess and made her aware that we were early and she said something to the effect that it shouldn't be too long and handed me a pager. Thirty minutes later, I approached the hostess stand as I noticed that folks that came in immediately after me without an appointment (walk-ins) were just seated. I approached the hostess desk again and made them aware of my observation. A different hostess stepped in and advised me that we will be seated at our scheduled appointment time of 8:30 irrespective of the time of our check-in. I asked to speak to the manager. I was then approached by Dennis Gill, their General Manager. I made him aware of the situation and said something to the effect of seating walk-Ins that came in after me, prior to me because I had a later appointment was "ass backwards logic". He immediately refused to deal with the situation as he considered the word "ass" to be cursing. He said flatly that we will be seated at 8:30. To conclude, I was not looking for preferential treatment, but rather equal to any other walk-in party. Instead, the "ass backwards" logic was punitive in nature. As to Mr. Gill's decision to cover up the poor training of his employees or his lack of leadership, is his problem, not mine. If he is offended by words like ass, hell, or dam, as they are allowed in virtually every print media, network media, etc., perhaps he should find a job where he interacts with animals, but not speaking parrots that might offend him. read more

Probably the most awkward steakhouse dinner I have ever had! Not that we have that out of the way, let me tell you about my dining experience. Made reservations for 5:30 because I hate waiting for tables and wasn't sure how busy they're going to be. We were immediately greeted and I informed her we have reservations. The place isn't loud but everyone seemed to have an issue hearing everything I said. I've had to repeat myself a couple of times before she found my reservations. FYI: my name isn't complicated to say or foreign sounding. Ok so, I didn't bring any formal wear because 1) I'm vacationing in Florida where I'm mostly going to spend time at the beach so shorts and shirts, and 2) I didn't plan on going to any fancy places. I did, however, go to the outlet mall and found some dresses I liked the day before. I tried to put together a casualwear for the evening which casual is supposedly acceptable here. I did see people in shorts and t-shirts walk in and I kind of wonder how their treatment was or how they felt they were treated. Anyway, I really felt like I was being made uncomfortable the whole time maybe because we weren't dressed up enough or looked too young to afford this place? I'm not sure. We skipped the appetizers because we weren't super hungry and I kind of wanted a salad. I ordered a glass of cabernet and the wait staff brought some water as well. I didn't catch her name but she had a knack for asking how the food was immediately after taking a bite. I had the prime rib, 12 oz ($29) and it was actually bigger than I expected it to be. You can get a 16 oz for $36 (can't recall exactly), I believe but I already had a rough time finishing my piece. I also started with a Caesar salad which was a large portion for a starter salad. I could only eat about a quarter of it. Ordering, I've had to repeat myself a couple of times and the same thing happened with my dining partner. The entree came and I was very pleased with how my prime rib turned out. I ordered it medium rare and it came out as such. Yay, J Alexander!!! Very succulent and tender (could be because of their claim that the beef is "aged," for how long?... I didn't ask) and the edges have some semi-crisp parts that were quite flavorful. It came with some "smashed potatoes" aka mashed potatoes, au jus and horseradish. After the main course, we ordered some key lime pie which was tart and actually hovering in the level of excellent according to an anti-dessert person (me!) Our service was kind of so-so. Outside of the awkwardness, it was lacking in friendliness as well. Quite a lackluster type of service. Our server came and went, wasn't too enthused (I get it... It's work), didn't give us enough time to really look over the menu so I had to take the very first cabernet I saw on the list and told her we needed a little bit of time to decide on our food. Overall, I was very happy with my meal. The dining experience, not so much which makes rating this place very difficult. For the food alone, this was clearly a 4 to 5 star meal but for the dining experience, I am more inclined to giving it a 1.5. To be fair, I think I'll go with a 3 because that seems like a good average type of rating. If you're making the decision to dine here, however, please consider the food first because I was able to put up with the strangeness of it all and would do it all over again for another piece of well-prepared, delicious meat. First time coming here since moving to the area. Cameron gave us great service and excellent drink recommendations, I had the anejo old fashioned and my girlfriend had the "red-headed-Rita". We ordered the calamari for an appetizer and it was great, for entrees we had the steak burger with Mac & Cheese and the prime rib with smashed potatoes: 10/10 across the board. I came here for my first (and only) time with an old friend to catch up. I told her that I wanted to go to a nice place with good food and drink options, so she selected J Alexander's. The restaurant interior is spacious but extremely cold. I had a cute outfit on but I had to cover the cuteness with my jacket the entire time and was still shivering. Our server was not very attentive, as we had to flag her down whenever we needed another cocktail or to order, yet she still managed to make me feel rushed whenever she did come by the table. The food was decent but not worth the price. Me and my friend shared the Mac n cheese which was probably my favorite thing that I ate. Can't beat the Avocado Egg rolls and superior wait staff. I recently went to this location for date night and to be honest I'm quite impressed. I had never been to this restaurant before so my expectations were high. It's in a plaza with plenty free parking. There's a large bar where we sat at while we waited for our table to be ready. Now here's where I was close to leaving the restaurant and why I'm giving it a 4 star. We ordered two cocktails which were absolutely disgusting. We could barely swallow the first sip, yeah that gross. We ended up telling the bartender that we did not like the drinks and she made us new drinks. I had the mojito which was terrible but I did not ask to have her make me something else because I had lost all faith at the bar and just drank My bae ordered the hibiscus martini and he enjoyed those. Now the reason I'm giving the 4 stars is for our fantastic waitress who really saved our date night lol Raven had all the great recommendations that we truly enjoyed. We ordered the special with fish fillet and shrimp with the Mac and cheese and cole slaw. That was very enjoyable. The fish was cooked perfectly and the Mac was delicious. It was cooked exactly how I love it, moist inside with a crunchy top with panko crumbs. The cole slaw was also tasty. My bae ordered the ribeye steak with loaded mashed potatoes. He really enjoyed the mashed potatoes but his steak wasn't cooked to his liking. He had asked for medium well and got well done. He didn't enjoy it as much due to this but Raven did apologize for the mishap and offered us a dessert. She recommended the carrot cake and again I was apprehensive about getting that because everyone says they make "the best carrot cake" but really she wasn't lying. It was quite delicious. It had actual carrot pieces which we enjoyed and the topping just really ramped up the taste. We also got the key lime pie and it too was delicious. Even eating the left overs the next day was a delight. So thanks Raven for saving our date night and giving us those amazing recommendations and being pleasant, it's not too often we run into someone who provides exceptional service.
