After nobody showed up to open a nearby cafe where I had planned on meeting my best friend for breakfast, we trekked to the next closest open cafe, J&I. We were pleasantly surprised by this hole-in-the-wall east side cafe. The interior is humbly decorated. The portrait of the horse is kick ass, and it was apparently the couple who own it were running the kitchen and counter alone. The owner did not seem rude to me. It wasn't the most hospitable ass-kissing service so many are accustomed to, but he was friendly especially when it came time to pay. The breakfast tacos were fantastic, and I will be happy to patron this business anytime I am looking for something to eat on that side of town. The mural outside is also pretty cool.

I was in town for an event at the Alamodome. This place is a short walk away, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm SO glad I did. I had a plate of beef enchiladas, and I swear they were the best enchiladas I've had in years. Forget chain restaurants, this place is great.

This is my go to spot! It's a really great Mexican restaurant! They're carne guisada with cheese is made with love. Also the bean and chorizo was very good! Not greasy, and the tortilla had a light crisp on it as if they grilled it.

The machacado with huevo was a flavorful dish . The nopales con huevo just like the way my mom used to make them. Best place in San Antonio super humble with authentic Tex-mex food. When I go back and visit San Antonio I'm definitely going back there. Greetings from Southern California I love this place.

First time eating at J&I Cafe, the food at this restaurant is great, highly recommended.

If you want great food near the Alamodome, this is the place to go. First time eating here, and I wasn't disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Their carne guisada is delicious! Meat is very tender and just the right amount of seasoning. Their breakfast tacos with egg are okay.

I didn't need extra fat from avocado after the corn cakes since it doesn't add much flavor to the dish. The corn cakes are good and I will order again but not as good as some other cornbread. It came with 2 cakes. One was undercooked and one has a crispy crust. The undercooked one was my favorite. It is more moist with soft in the middle. Tuna Al Pastor has a kick but nothing special. Tres Leches was beautiful. 4/5. I like the fresh fruits to cut down the sweetness. The cake was a bit in the dense side. The icing on top was thick. I wish it was a fluffy whip cream to cut down from all the sweetness. Overall it's still a better tres leches than other places in the area.

Our Lyft driver recommended Mi Tierra as one of the best restaurants in the area. I ordered the Steak Tampiqueña combo and I am truly glad I did. The meat was very tender and flavorful, and the chicken enchilada that came with. It was absolutely delicious! The rice and beans were a nice addition, but I have to say the real star of the show was the homemade tortillas! Our server told us that there are two ladies in the back that make homemade tortillas all day long, and they were very tasty. I do absolutely recommend that you try this place if you are in the area. Both my wife and I ordered breakfast plates--hers was the chorizo and egg and mine, huevos rancheros. The restaurant was empty besides one diner sitting outside with her dog and one family inside which should have been a red flag to stay away. My chorizo and potatoes were cold and my beans were not hot either. This was not like it had cooled down--cold. The ranchero sauce looked bad and all of the food on my plate had no flavor, no seasoning, literally no effort whatsoever. I had a bug crawl across my hand while we were there as well. She had the issue with her plate, food was not even warm. The tortillas were hot and tasted good so that was how I warmed up my food. Our waiter also decided that he would cross the street to go speak to a woman at the little outdoor patio restaurant across the street on the corner. Not kidding, he was there for at least five or ten minutes just talking to her. I have always wanted to try Tito's and wanted something new to us but I guarantee there is no way we will ever go back. We left hungry, disappointed and embarrassed by what we just went through.
