It's connected to the Marriott. But it's better than you'd expect for a hotel restaurant. They have a great bar, a well-rounded menu, a pleasant environment, excellent service, and the most delicious salmon I've ever had. And that's saying a lot. I love salmon and I eat in a lot of restaurants in a lot of cities. But dang that was good! Plus, if you stay at the Marriott Capital Downtown (that it's connected to), the front desk will offer you a 20% of coupon. And I really like that hotel, too. So... come by and try their maple-glazed, cedar plank salmon with a side of asparagus (also surprisingly amazing) and their wild mushrooms or cauliflower au gratin (very decadent)! They're oysters (small and very yummy) are also recommended. Enjoy! read more

Where do I start? J Gilberts is our go-to for birthdays and other celebrations! The staff are really friendly and accommodating. Last time we went in with a larger party, our server was busy but she still made sure we were well taken care of. When we go in December or early January, it's usually to use our birthday discounts. It's not in the budget to go more than once every few months, but mine and my husband's birthdays are just a month apart separated by the holidays, and our server was really understanding and let us both use our discounts on the same check. This really makes us come back and spend full price the rest of the year! My husband and I work at a wine bar so we typically bring our own wine and just pay the corking free, which I feel like is reasonable for a steakhouse. But even if we bring our own wine, we always get at least one cocktail to start. You cannot go wrong with those smoked old fashions. Even if you're not a huge whisky person, try it! There's so much to say about the food but I'll keep it to the highlights. The blue cheese chips for the appetizer is a must. Then we usually each get the pre fixe option which is an incredible deal for the price. We usually get the salad, my favorite is the wedge. If we're feeling fancy, the upcharge for the special dry-aged steak is a must. The steaks are always perfectly cooked and fully flavored. My go-to sides are the Brussel sprouts and the au gratin potatoes. And don't forget the save room for dessert because everything is incredible. My favorite being the crème brûlée which always has that perfect, crunchy top. It is usually pretty busy, especially if you go when there's a Creighton game, but just make sure you have a reservation and you'll be fine. It can get loud, which honestly would be my only complaint. Tip: sign up for their emails and you get a birthday discount as well as random specials throughout the year. Well, there goes that friendship (I think I won't tell her). We dined on Thanksgiving Day. Parked on-street 2 blocks away, however valet parking is available. We were seated within about one minute upon checking in at the hostess's desk. Sufficient time to peak at the wall of wines. The hostesses were friendly. Our second floor table overlooked Tenth Street. Our waitress, Hannah, was great. Her timing was great throughout the meal and she exhibited a good sense of humor. I passed on the holiday turkey special and chose the prix fixe with fillet, poblano au gratin potatoes, citrus broccolini, crab bisque and carrot cake. The steak was cooked as requested and well seasoned. My friend enjoyed his blackened chicken penne. Can't forget the bread service. We left filled. No complaints. Very elegant dining experience for Omaha. Great customer service, even while sitting at the bar. I did not make a reservation, but it sounded like most people coming in had one. I would simply come back for happy hour and drinks. The food was very flavorful and the crème brûlée really stood at the top of the dining experience for me. I primarily came for Omaha Restaurant Week, tried the Wagyu dish, slightly sad that it was already cut up but was still as delightful as A5 Japanese Wagyu gets, with the buttery and tender texture. Risotto cooked perfectly and the sweetness from the tomatoes really tied it together. Although this experience was great, if I were recommending a steak house simply for the cut of meat in Omaha, it would still be the Drover. My son and I were looking for a place to have ice cream within walking distance from our hotel. This was attached to our house so we tried here. The ice cream was homemade and my son said it was very good but it was $9 for one scoop which was high to me for what we were looking for but we were at a steakhouse. Our food came out piecemeal, with some members of our party not receiving their food for more than 20 minutes after others. I received my food at 6:30 and my filet was well done (ordered medium rare). The green beans were so over salted they were completely inedible. Another member of our party with the same meal had the same experience. The waitress noted I did not eat my meal and asked it was ok and I informed her of above. She apologized and asked if she could replace it but I explained we did not have time. She did not offer to discount our meal. We did not receive our ticket until 7:20 and were late to our event. Quite possibly one of the nicest restaurants I have been to. Food is to the caliber expected when looking for fine dining. Steaks are beautifully cooked and Seared, desserts are sweet and flavorful, and salad was refreshing in every aspect. I didn't see much of the 4oz steak and shrimp as the misses ate through it quickly. She was also the drinker of the lavender drop drink as I'm allergic to lavender. If you are worried about price point for food quality, it is not a worry you should have at all. The waiters and waitresses are top tier and there at almost every beck and call that you can have. Was staying at the Hilton Omaha next door for a conference and much of the group tried this place on different days throughout the week. I visited on a Thursday. Since I was right next door, we just walked over, although since it's at the Marriott, I'm sure you can park in the lot. We first sat at the bar while they got our table together (party of 9) and grabbed a drink to start. As soon as the bartender reached our side of the bar (closest to the windows), it was like he disturbed the resting place of the fruit flies. About 6 of them just scuttled out when he came over. It's a bar and as a former health inspector, they probably just need to do a better job cleaning up the stickiness from the alcohol and fruit. I didn't have a specialty cocktail, I just had some tequila, but I tasted the Bourbon Basil Smash and that was pretty good. I enjoyed the taste the basil brought to the drink. For happy hour, the calamari was a good portion size and was not over cooked. I enjoyed the filet combo for dinner, paired with the crab cakes. They're made with blue crab, my preferred favorite. The sauce they served them with was a spicy remoulade that also accompanied the calamari and it went well with both choices of seafood. I paired my meat selections with Yukon gold mashed potatoes and broccolini. My food was cooked well and I enjoyed it. Our server was nice, too, and not put off by the large group. If you're in town, stop by! They even have a gas fireplace inside the restaurant but since it was happy hour and they were able to provide us with a table in the cocktail area, that's where we stayed. read more
