So tonight while at my parents house my dad looks at me and says "Taylor, I have a groupon for JJ's, interested in going?" Am I ever one to turn down free food? No. Am I going? Abso-freaking-lutely. The parking lot is a little awkward, if there's no spots you have to back up onto the street which at times can be busy. We got in and quickly ordered a 16" JJ's special pizza and three beers and grabbed a table. On a busy night like tonight some tables took awhile to be attended to and cleaned up so we grabbed the first table we could find. I've been here before when it was impossible to get seating inside. It happens! We waited about 20 minutes, watching the basketball game so we were enjoying ourselves, and we heard the glorious loud speaker say "Ed, your order is ready" huzzah! The pizza was hot and delicious. I mean seriously, seriously good. I loved all the toppings and didn't even want to dip it in ranch so I could enjoy the full flavorful glory that was this pizza. You'll find me in here again, maybe next time not during one of their rushes though! read more

very disappointing after reading some of the reviews and knowing it's been here forever - maybe that's the problem, been too long in business and don't care bout revamping or revising. ordered pizza (jj's special, large - overpriced) and wings (not even close to "jumbo" as they advertise on their menu). veggies on pizza soggy and appeared to have been cooked in the sauce (bland, watery), same with some of the meat (which was pretty indistinguishable except for dry, crumbly sausage on top). ordered as take out and told 25-30 minutes - after 15 minutes called our order but only wings ready, so they just set them aside while pizza cooked. total of 40 minutes. wouldn't go back. read more

What an awesome pizza place! Family owned and operated for more than 30 years, that's impressive. My family and I had a great first visit to JJ's. We arrived on a Saturday evening at around 6pm. They have a small parking lot and it was already full so we parked across the street on the side of the road. When we walked in it was packed. We were lucky enough to find a table in the very back corner. We claimed our seat then I went to the counter to order. I ordered a 14" meat lovers pizza (pepperoni, sausage, salami and linguiça), 12 medium chicken wings and three small drinks. I returned to the table to wait for my name to be called. They had quite a few TV's in the dining area with college football playing so the 25 minutes it took for my name to be called didn't feel so long. Thanks to the advice of other reviewers I asked for some honey when I picked up our food. The wings were great. They tasted fresh and crispy. The flavor was good, however they tasted more like mild than medium as there was no real heat to them at all. The pizza was also really good with plenty of cheese and meat on a really tasty crust. On a side note, the ranch was awesome too. On my first slice of pizza I couldn't decide between the ranch and honey to dip the crust in. In the end the honey was the way to go. Overall we had a great experience at JJ's. The staff is nice and friendly and the food is fresh and really good. I want to add that I was initially nervous about taking a toddler here but my mind was put at ease when we walked in and there were several families with kids. read more

I have to agree that JJ's is probably the best pizza Co. In Reno! Definitely a must go if you have not tried it out! The crust is soft on the inside and crusty on the out, the toppings are fresh and generous and the cheese is perfect! Customer service rocks and the atmosphere is lively! read more

My niece and her daughter live in Reno. We were in South Lake Tahoe with our picky eater son. My niece suggested we meet here and get pizza because 'it's the best' she promised. She was right. We arrived on Sunday around 1230pm and the place looked empty. And divey. We were about three blocks from Circus Circus and the downtown area. WIthin minutes before the game, cars and SUVs began pulling into the parking lot, hemming us in. My niece arrived and we went in. The place has that dive bar feel. Pinball machines, some arcade games, that look that says, you can spill beer here and ain't no one gonna be upset that it ruined the Berber carpets ('cause that ain't what is on the floor). But the staff was super friendly. We had I think the JJ special which is loaded with sausage, pepperoni, green pepper and mushrooms and we got the kids a cheese pizza. The pizza was nicely loaded, not excessively, not sparingly. The crust was flat-ish with a lofty edge. You have a choice of honey or ranch to dip your pizza crust in. We opted for the ranch. And they serve Pepsi (yay!). Don't let the beat up look of the place on the outside deceive you. The pizza is well worth the venture in. read more

I've only been here once in 2012. But I've never had a better pizza in my life. I always think of j j's and their honey dip. Don't count on this place for any parties with 10 people. I just called to ask if I could reserve a table for 10 tomorrow night at 6pm. The manager on the phone said, "I don't have the room and I don't take reservations." I understand the place is busy but his unprofessional manner and matter of fact response will 100% make me never go there. I responded to him, that I was shocked that he is turning away business and his response changed a little saying they only do first come first serve. I would have expected him to be more apologetic and encouraged us to come by -- or mention he will try to set a table aside...but no, nothing. He doesn't want the business clearly. I asked him if he was the owner and he said no. I wonder how the owner would respond? I will never go there....they have a very unprofessional store manager. Dude I love this place, So you get to eat your pizza down to the crust and you save them... They become pizza "bones" that you use later to dip in the honey..... definately created by stoners. So you get your dinner and your dessert all in one... The pizza is really good, and I've looked far and wide for a good pie here in reno... I like the location of this business, close to work. I also like that you can call orders in ahead of time and order pizza by the slice. A lot of my friends like the wings but I tend to stick with pizza. This restaurant tends to attract an eclectic crowd for lunch. Business and healthcare professionals along with college kids. Wow so many good reviews but I'm gonna have to disagree sauce was weird and I got the strange feeling i was eating chuck e cheese pizza virtually no cheese on my cheese pizza . A plain old satisfying pizza. The crust is a good thickness, not too thin and not too thick. Just a little bit greasy, like a pizza should be. Perfect amount of toppings to satisfy. You just can't compare JJ's to Pizza Hut or Dominoe's cardboard pizzas. I also LOVE their chicken wings. The sauce is very tasty. Called ahead a half hour before closing last night to make sure it was alright for my group of 8 to come in for dinner. Was told it'd be no problem. We arrive and the two guys behind the bar refuse to acknowledge us or come to the counter to take our order. The only words they said to us was "you can't sit there when we tried to sit at a big table, forcing us to crowd around a high top." After 10 minutes of standing around waiting, trying to order food and drinks at the bar, we left, only to have one of the guys behind the counter yell "thanks for coming in!" at us as we walked out. read more

I go to J.J.'s everytime I visit my friends in Reno (and not just because my name is J.J.). My friend met his wife at J.J.'s when they both worked there years ago. I have been to Reno about 5 times in the last 7 years and I've been to J.J.'s on every trip (I think). They have great pizza and wings. There is tons of interesting stuff on their walls too. To me J.J.'s is a must-stop for anyone visiting Reno or anyone who lives near downtown who loves good pie. read more

There was 6 of us on a Sunday night and all enjoyed the 2 pizzas we ordered. The look/feel of JJ's is college hangout. One party near us had a lady yelling GO SAINTS, which the game was 2 weeks ago . She was sipping a mini jeager from her purse, so I guess that explains things. This is by far my favorite pizza place in town. If you like exotic and unusual pizzas, then Eclipse is a better choice, but for standard orders (Cheese, Pepperoni, etc.) there isn't any better location. The best thing about J J's Pie Co. is the ambiance. Their pizza is a half step above the national pizza chains. I could see it being a good place to stumble into if you're a little drunk and have a case of the munchies, but otherwise you have better options out there. My girlfriend and a group of friends decided to try J J's out on a whim on a Friday night, because one of my friends heard J J's is comparable to Blind Onion - which she loves. We got there around 7 p.m. and the place was bumpin' with a good variety of people. You had old couples, large families, some trendy college kids, and some loners at the bar all in front of the backdrop of local 70's and 80's sports posters and memorabilia. If it wasn't for some of the high def TVs, you'd swear you were in a pizza joint straight out of the 80's. We strolled up to the register and ordered one of their extra large specialty pizzas that had peppercinis, sun dried tomatoes, and chorizo on it. It sounded like an interesting combination that you wouldn't get anywhere else, so what the hell? We were told the wait would be about 45 minutes due to the large crowd, which was fine. We all got cups of water or beer, and sat at one of their elevated little tables in the back watching some basketball. When the pizza came with some ranch dressing and honey for dipping, we all hungrily scarfed down some pizza. The crust was medium thickness and was probably at some point crispy, but we couldn't really tell since it was drenched in grease. The sauce was bland and thick, and the cheese was so-so. At this point, I figured this is why everybody received ranch dressing. It was so you could use it to mask the shortcomings of the pizza. The honey with the pizza crust wasn't half bad, but it didn't make up for the rest of the pizza. I don't want to make it sound like the pizza was as bad as something you would get at Domino's or Pizza Hut, but you're also not paying ~$30 for your pizza at those places either. On second thought, if you're short on cash and patience, maybe you're actually better off going to a national pizza chain. J J's Pie Co. isn't the worst pizza place, but it's far from the best. If you're in the mood for a bit of college nostalgia and don't mind spending a little bit more for a mediocre pizza and a brew or two, it's worth coming down just to try it out. read more

Talk about the hidden Gem: Once you figure it is a Pizza place and not the low rent bar that the outside looks like. A Friend told me to look past the outward appearance and give it a try. Wife and I went down there, found parking in their lot (small lot) walked in side down. Walked right to the counter to order. If i would have walked in the front door, i am not sure if i would have stayed. Ordered the Hawaiian Pizza, a pint for myself and pop for the wife. Pizza arrived to the bench style tables that where filling up fast with a wide array of customers. Pizza was one of the best in town. this would be a Gold Mine if they had a little curb appeal and some cleaning. read more

I love J J's pizza! Always fresh, hot and of course tasty! The only pizza place I know that serves honey for your crust, if you haven't tried honey on your crust ... you have to! Its a little pricey but to me for a good pizza is always worth it. Its more like a bar hang out place with a few big tables to sit and eat, while still having arcade games for those who have kids. Kinda weird to have bar and place for kids in a sentence. But its perfect to take your family or just hang out with friends. A must to go to! read more

We recently tried a take out pizza from here and it was OK. Not great or spectacular, but certainly not a bad pizza. The crust was pretty good but the pizza itself was a bit on the greasy side. Toppings were plentiful and tasty. The place itself looks like a fun joint, and I might have liked this all a bit better had we chosen to dine in (I honestly can't remember the last time I had a dine in pizza). I might try this again at some point for dine in and see how it goes, or maybe just pop in for a brew and some wings. read more
