Well, I do like the food at Jacks. Today though I went in, ordered my lunch to-go and it came out on a plate. The cashier who took my order saw this once it was ready and moved it to a to-go box - WITHOUT GLOVES ON OR WASHING HER HANDS. The rest of the food prep people all had gloves on, so she could have asked them to move the food but she did it. We've been going here for several years and today we were disappointed with the consistency. The salad was soggy and there were some old limp pieces mixed in. There were also large uncut, poorly peeled vegetables - probably end pieces that were thrown in. I've been a fan of Jack's for years since I tried them in Sacramento. I visit the Walnut Creek location once a month on average and it's definitely one of my favorite restaurants. Some of my repeat dishes are the Spicy Buffalo salad, Chinese chicken salad. The urban fries are amazing. But everything I've tried is great. This place besides that's extremely fresh and food is amazing, I like to mention that my favs are salmon Cobb, achiote chicken and steak salads so yummy ;) all the ingredients the are absolutely superb, blows my mind, the staff is always great and very attentive, location always clean and management always on point, carlos is always very attentive same with the other staff members. Wife and I stopped here for some healthier lunch options after flying back from Universal Studios. Place was bustling and inside seating was limited as there were several tables that needed bussing. I got the special- Korean bbq beef salad, which was like a chopped slaw-type salad, green onions, cilantro with small chunks of tasty beef, slightly spicy dressing, and my wife got her go-to Chinese chicken salad. I've had Jacks Urban Eats bookmarked for years and finally came in for an early dinner. They are located in a shopping center where ground parking can be tricky depending on the time of day. Safeway does have a rooftop parking lot with additional parking. My friend brought her dog. We walked inside to order (with the pup) and had no push back from staff like others have mentioned in their reviews. We ordered a Western BBQ Steak Salad and Achiote Chicken Salad. We let the cashier know we would be sitting outside and he gave us a table number. I went to the drink area to fill our water glasses and grab napkins and utensils. The utensil area was pretty much completely bare so I wasn't sure if that was normal or not as it was my first time. I grabbed some napkins and sat outside. Our salads were brought out without utensils so I let the gentleman know that the utensil area didn't have any forks. He said he would grab some for us which he did. Both salads were fresh and delicious. They were filling and had so much flavor. I ordered some urban fries and a cheesesteak sandwich to-go to bring for my husband. My husband really loved the fries. I have been here twice now and both times the atmosphere inside is a little odd, there's a lot of employees working and few customers. The employees don't seem super enthusiastic to be here, and we all know that supreme service is critical for survival these days. The way it works is you hop in line and order over the counter and the meals here are super customizable, its almost confusing! But lots of yummy options. So it took me a while both times to decide what I wanted and actually order, but both visit the food was fresh, correct, and delicious! Salads are huge portions and great for sharing. I've also had their super food salad, which has quinoa as the base. I'd love to try their Pacific ahi bowl and the Impossible taco salad. Today was my first time eating at Jacks Urban Eats and it definitely won't be my last. Carlos welcomed me in and told me about the menu, and took my order. He recommended the steak salad and the tri tip sandwich. While I waited I walked back to look at the food prep area which is easily seen. One of the owners chatted with me, told me about the meats, and offered me a sample of whatever I wanted. I tried the turkey which was moist and flavorful. Our meals were quickly ready and the salad was amazing. However, I forgot to ask them to hold the cheese for my son's sandwich. My son has a cheese aversion and wouldn't eat it. I called to make the correct order and told them it was my mistake. They had it ready for me by the time I went back and wouldn't let me pay for it. My son devoured it! The staff is friendly and appears hard working at all times. Their product is consistent (if you think about nearly 30 options they put out every day!) and prices are reasonable, even if the meat isn't always quite as tender or trimmed just perfectly. Cons: The patio in Walnut Creek is kind of small and awkward. You might have more privacy eating inside. With the hustle and bustle the occasional salad will come out with specs slightly skewed, but again the consistency is generally good especially if you stick to the set menu. 5 Stars because of a nice rotating selection of side veggies, crisp fries, and cookies that are soft and chewy. read more

You order cafeteria style at the counter and let them know what sides and entrees that you want to order. The menu offerings are legit!! They make a variety of salads, sammies, and dinner plates. Now normally I'd go for chicken over tri-tip if I saw it on the menu. I've never been a huge red meat person (aside from burgers) and I rarely ever get tri-tip. But, something about it just sounded so appealing here. So, I ordered it. Their tri-tip dinner is served with mashed potatoes, market veggies, and house-made chipotle-mango bbq sauce. I honestly wasn't expecting too much, but once they delivered that scrumptious looking plate to my table... oooh it was ON! Holy effing MOLY!!! This tri-tip.... THIS tri-tip... sweet baby Geezus. This tri-tip was heavenly. It was so... tender, juicy, succulent. It was so...fragrant, flavorful, enjoyable savory. It was so... I mean damn, it was just so damn GOOD! But, that bbq sauce though! That chipotle-mango bbq sauce really brought it to life. This tri-tip was cooked SO well! The consistency was perf. They gave me a nice meaty cut too. It was enough to take home to make a second meal too. The mashed potatoes and steamed veggies were equally tasty. They managed to turn a really simple dish into a wonderful masterpiece of a meal. Service from the staff was amazing. Everyone was friendly and appeared to be working really hard and enjoying it. I pre-ordered two bowls for lunch for my aunt & I & we were both impressed! I got the Impossible Taco Bowl (Plant based seasoned ground beef, grilled corn pico de gallo, spiced black beans, avocado, tomato, kale, romaine, white cabbage with tortilla strips and jalapeno vinaigrette) while she got the Achiote Chicken Bowl (Chargrilled chicken, red quinoa & black rice, sweet grilled corn, spiced chickpeas, tomatoes, kale, cabbage, pickled radish, and queso fresco, with roasted jalapeno vinaigrette). While I didn't try hers since it wasn't plant based, she raves about how delicious it was! Mine was SO delicious! The seasoning on the "meat", the toppings, & the vinaigrette really made the flavors all come alive! If you're not vegan, I highly recommend their Urban Fries (topped with a spicy chili oil, blue cheese dressing, chili flakes and parsley). Those used to be my go to & they are mouthwatering Absolutely love this place, though I find it a bit over priced. "Professional, Hardworking, Friendly." Every time I come to this restaurant I enjoy my visit. In the past, I always got the salmon bowl. Today I decided to get the turkey plate. It comes with two sides. It was prepared at the same time that I was paying for it. Yes they are that fast! The turkey plate is about $13. Yes it is not as cheap as McDonald's, but you don't come here if you want McDonald's type food. For the side dishes, I got the traditional mashed potatoes as well as turkey vegetable soup. Both were excellent. The entire meal is actually pretty large. If you are a light either, you can probably share this. If you are a Beer Drinker, they have some excellent local Brews, including calicraft. You can also walk right across the street to Mike Hess Brewing. This is really a nice, hard-working group of people. If you want a great meal at a reasonable price I highly recommend this restaurant. I have never been disappointed. I had a long conversation with the head manager, Austin, and he explained the philosophy of the business. Man alive these people are doing something right! We customized our salads and ordered family size garlic sweet potato fries. My salad included 2 chicken strips and onion rings which made the salad so indulgent! However, twice now I've gone to the trouble to log in to UberEats, create a basket for check out, send it on its way and then - my order is rejected and Jack's is suddenly unavailable/"closed." Both times have been weeknights, around 5pm or so. Both times for an order with a couple of things on it, nothing extraordinary or off menu. This is incredibly frustrating, but I get the hint: take my dinner business elsewhere. read more

Giving Jack's 2 stars today. Labor shortage must be hitting home, so I added a star. Got home (20 min drive) just to open the bag and find beautiful meat. Just meat. Jordan Peterson would be proud, meat. Tried calling to ask where the rest of the meal was, & see if my teen made a mistake while ordering (possible) ...but hung up after 4 min on hold. Tried calling again 10 times but just went to vm each time. Message said "we do NOT check these messages." Daughter had high hopes of eating a healthy dinner from Jacks. Sorry kid, eat your meat. My garlic fries however, were to die for. Highly recommend to those of us who haven't reached their weight gaining goal yet;) Update: changing stars to 5. Went back to find a store full of people waiting as employees were cleaning up the entire glass counter that had shattered all over the floor.
