A really home-like feeling when I walked in with my family. The places was filled, but the wait was just less than five minutes. The waitress, with the blond hair, was very nice and welcoming. As for the food, I had the fried chicken and waffles, my wife had a veggie omelette, and my daughter had the spicy pig! The food was really good and plentiful. Jacks has always been a restaurant I have frequented throughout my lifetime.Its been a staple in the city of Whittier for a long long time.I even remember the other Jacks that is no longer standing.Its a solid choice for breakfast,lunch,and dinner.With specials all week long. The coffee is ole school coffee shop material.I highly recommend one cup or two.I can barely get through the breakfast menu everything is so good.Eggs Benedict is my absolute favorite.The ham steaks are almost as big as my face. Do not come when it is busy. Took them awhile to sit us down. (2 ppl). After someone sat us down at our table. We waited another 15 for a waiter to approach us even though more than one waiter came to check on tables around us. One good note is the cooks in there are on point. Really is The Best Fried Chicken in Town! Pre-ordered a Barrel with all the fixins To-go. Order was correct & packed neatly. Was for a friend's birthday dinner & everyone loved it. I don't understand how folks could give this place anything less than a full 5 starts. I'd give it 10 if I could! My family and I breakfast here often and absolutely love it! From their bacon eggs/pancakes to their dinners, this place will not let you down! Their staff is super friendly and attentive! Ambience is great and what sometimes seems like a long line, don't shy away, it moves quickly! We always look forward to our Sunday morning breakfast here! And occasional late night dinners too! When I was an Uptown Girl, living in Uptown Whittier, my BFF and I would spend many a time at Jack's either having breakfast and reminiscing (aka trying to piece together the night before) or grabbing some dinner and choosing one of their quintessential specials. This a typical diner, with typical diner food and it was great to go and know what you were going to get. Service was great, our Coke's always filled, and food was predictably good; comfort food. Jacks is an old style Cafe that we have enjoyed coming for years. Even though they are not far we don't come here often enough. They have been my go to place for special occasions like St Patty's day when they serve an incredible portion of Corn Beef and Cabbage. A Groupon brought us here today and we had to whole family here. Typically, school, the job or other commitments does NOT allow us all to be together but today was an exception. We did the two meal Groupon with 2 desserts. Although there were 4 of us, the wife and son were not very hungry and wanted to share. I walked in a saw a special for a lamb shank. Where are you going to find a plate for lamb shank in the area? It was absolutely delicious with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and a huge slice of corn bread. With dessert, it was just over $11. Well...a staple of Whittier? I don't think so. I ordered what, according to the menu, was a USDA Choice Ribeye (See picture attached). I asked for Medium Rare and to my surprise I got a 1/4 inch thick (if you know Ribeye's they aren't 1/4" in thickness) Ribeye, well done (I don't even think it was a ribeye for $12.95, which was the cost of the whole meal). I asked for another ribeye cooked at medium rare and if you didn't think they could botch it again, well you are going to be disappointed. As the pictures show, I got a nice raw steak. Needless to say, I didn't want it anymore. When the manager came by, he was clueless and didn't even know what medium rare looked like. His confusion transitioned to more because you would think he would have comped our meal; nope! They still charged me for my girlfriend's meal. I guess making money is more important than fixing mistakes and keeping your customers. By the way I didn't get any apology. read more

My husband and I drop our car off at the shop and walk across the street to Jack's for breakfast to kill some time. It was around 9:45AM and there was a wait. We put our names down and were seated within 20 minutes. I like hometown diners and Jack's has been around since 1933. They recently had a remodel and it looked nice inside with TVs, nice décor and new cushions in their booths. From all the people here, I was hoping this would be Whittier's version of Flappy Jack's in Glendora. I ordered the French Toast Combo ($6.45) with bacon & two eggs and added Hash Browns ($1.00). My husband orders Jack's Special Steak & Eggs ($12.95) with biscuits and gravy which his co-worker recommended. SERVICE: Overall, I thought the service was slow. Once our food was dropped off, my husband asked for A1 sauce and our server took about 10 minutes before she returned with it and a refill. After that, we didn't really see our server. FOOD: My husband asked for his steak to be cooked medium, but it was well done. The gravy on the biscuits were good and had plenty of flavor. My French Toast was decent, but they put so much powdered sugar on top which was clumpy. They probably didn't use a sieve so I had to scrape it off. The bacon was tough. Don't get me wrong, I like my bacon crunchy, but this was tough to chew which led me to believe they were probably old. The hash browns were terrible. They were burnt on top but raw in the center. I wish I didn't pay the extra $1 for them. Well, there were pros and cons about our breakfast experience, but left the restaurant feeling disappointed. read more

Love their menudo, it's served hot with flour or corn tortillas, lemon, onions, cilantro, oregano & red pepper. Can't remember menudo tasting this good but it's never consistent. I've gone their 2 times and the menudo wasn't fresh so that was quite a bummer. Have it on a weekend and it tastes great, after that, It's not the same. Coffee is great. Other menu foods are just ok, they serve enough to fill you up. Service could be better, but they are really rushed. read more

I watched the food coming out of he kitchen and going to the tables. I was quite impressed by the presentation, along with the fact that everybody seems to be so jovial, haply, just plain nice! The young fellow who was helping me, who infondly nicknames "Little Jack," was attentive and well groomed. I asked many questions, as it was my first time. The homemade vegetable soup, looked so good, the salad was good but I did regret my decision to get that over the soup. -- MUCH SO, that I did order a bowl to take home! I will return. I grew up eating at Jack's restaurant back in the days when they used to open in Cerritos. I always came with my family and enjoyed their traditional American diner style food. For a reasonable price, you get to enjoy from soup/salad, entree, and choice of dessert. My favorite items here include: Homemade vegetable soup, a taste that have not yet changed for past two decades (or more). Fried chicken, it is truly home style fried chicken they do their own batter n etc. Jack's special steak is a must try too! Marinated hanger steak, full of flavors. The seasoning is not over the top so it doesn't make you feel bleh after eating it. as for sides, can substitute the dinner rolls with cheese toast (I recommend), plus the mashed potatoes comes with it are good too! First time visiting this venue. I had seen friends post about it on social media, and boy was it understated. As soon as I entered, I was greeted by a waiter who helped me find a seat. She offered me a drink, and i settled for a milkshake. Very flavorful. She quickly showed me the menu and made me some suggestions on what I might like, based on what I was looking for. By then, my waiter, who evidently was still kind of new, came and helped me. He was eager to cater to my needs, and asked another waiter questions to make sure my order was done precisely how I wanted it (attention to detail, very much appreciated ). I settled for an egg and chorizo appetizer. I also ordered a panini for my Meal. Appetizer came out promptly and was nice and hot. I was blown away by the amount of flavor in the panini. My check was promptly bought over, and I was even more pleased how inexpensive my meal was. Definitely a good spot with great food and great service...will come again. read more

Unfortunately some places are not so good but we know we can count on Jack's every time. The only criticism I have is they do not have fresh mushrooms. Inflation is taking a toll on everyone's wallet, it's important to receive quality for your money. I have eaten twice at Jack's. An established family restaurant for 89 years. Jack must be doing something right to be in business this long. My $24 breakfast experience was excellent, quality and delicious food and my coffee cup was always full. The service was good, my server asked how I was doing twice. Definitely money well spent, and a repeat visit for sure. My $27 dinner experience was not so great. My food was over fried and lack flavor, and my fountain drink flat. My server never checked on me, nor did the manager ask how was my dinner as I paid at the counter. Definitely a let down, and I won't be back for dinner. Sometimes establish restaurants become complacent as they have there repeat customers base to rely on. In an age whether so much competition and rising cost, it's important to treat every customer like a valued customer. I came across this restaurant randomly because I was in the area. The restaurant is very retro. I'm not sure how long it's been in business but it looked like a 50's diner. Upon arriving, we were seated instantly. It's a pretty big restaurant so they offer a lot of seating options like a bartop area, tables, booths, and an outdoor patio. The decoration is interesting to say the least. If I had to guess, I'd say the owner collects antiques to place around the restaurant. I ordered a burger and fries. The food was delicious with a lot of flavor. The portion sizes were huge so I was able to take some home for later. Our waitress was a bit moody. We would ask her for something and she'd roll her eyes (lol). I didn't take it personally though. Everyone has a bad day. Jack's is a local spot and heard great things about it but man was I disappointed. The vegetable soup was decent and the Coors were cold. Once the ribeye and Jack's special steak came out, it was all downhill from there. My wife and I both ordered medium, both came out way past well done. Out of respect, we tried to give it a shot and look past it-- I can say with confidence that it was the worst steak we've ever had. Steak flavored chewing gum basically describes it. Our waiter was super nice but they need to get their kitchen together. For two beers and two steak meals at $65 (20% tip included), I'd rather spend that and get some quality steak at a grocery store to cook it myself. The service is great!!!! I came here on Father's Day called a day before to make a reservation for 6 people and definitely delivered. It was a full house with a wait and they still managed to seat our party right away. The staff was so friendly. But the food! Tasted homemade fresh and came out fast. I had issues with the Uber eats options so I called for delivery but they dont personally deliver. I had no option than to drive over there and pick up. This is a great Whittier tradition with very good food. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner you can't really miss because they gave a great selection and do any meal well. Their know for their take out fried chicken which is delicious and good portions. I love that their open late and we've stopped for some late night dinning. The service staff is always very friendly and courteous. We also have used their catering service for a Christmas brunch we hosted and the was great. We ordered bacon, sausage, & their home potatoes and everything was yummy. Our guest loved the spread and complemented the meal.
