There are a lot of chinese food joints in town, but this is one of the few that focuses on actual flavor, this is not your regular take out place. Growing up in Latin America, the style they use here for their cooking is very similar to the chinese restaurants found in Mexico or Peru, very characteristic flavor and seasoning. This place is one of my go-to places when I'm in Albuquerque for work because it is the one place they have the shrimp I like. I call it "kicker shrimp" because on the menu it is called "sweet punting shrimp" (can you see it, a wee shrimp with a football helmet on?). In other Shanghai-style Chinese restaurants, the dish is actually called "sweet and pungent shrimp". It is a lightly fried shrimp in a sort of sweet and sour sauce (but way different than sweet and sour which is made of ketchup), served with broccoli and rice. During lunch, it comes with hot and sour soup. It is a fairly large portion for cheap. Service is quick and friendly. I have yet to try their other dishes because sweet and pungent shrimp is rather hard to find elsewhere. read more

I'm been very impressed with Jade each time I've gone. Several different items on the menu that I enjoy and the food is about as healthy as Chinese can get. Honestly, Jade's Chinese Food was better when they had their restaurant on the Westside. I was disappointed by the egg drop soup (this time). It was incredibly thick and had absolutely no flavor. We received very few pieces of sweet and sour pork for the price (perhaps 10 to 15) and the eggs rolls were small and loosely wrapped, but tasty. It almost seems like they are trying to cut corners. The sizzling steak is the bomb as is the orange chicken! I get mine without spice. Otherwise the orange chicken has a kick to it. It's a small place. It's always good. Their lunch portions are large. I ate at Jade for the first time today and have to say at the outset that it wasn't my favorite place for Chinese in Albuquerque. Food was decent, but sadly nothing special. Jade's has changed since I was last there. I was disappointed to see that the amount of food from the Lunch Specials had decreased and it was a $1 more for choosing the Wonton Soup. The Lunch Special price had increased to $7-8. No crunchy noodles/chips given before the meal comes like they do at other restaurants. The waitress informed us that new management had taken over. She then doesn't offer to give us a Chinese New Year calendar while she gives another table a calendar. Comparing this Chinese restaurant with others in the city, I would not choose this one. This very cute, tastefully decorated, delicious and great quality food does it up right. I've known a few of the employees whom ran a West Side restaurant several years back and to date remember myself and my friends. Always so pleasant, warm welcome. Definitely our favorite chinese restaurant in ABQ. The service is always great and the food fresh and tasty. The lunch specials have a large selection and come with egg drop soup, egg roll and fried rice. We always seem to get the same thing, orange beef (spicy) and sesame beef which to me are the best thing on the menu. I highly recommend. The beef is crispy and flavorful and the egg roll one of the best around. I have had the Mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken and mushroom chicken which are all good but I crave the beef dishes. They do have kids items such as battered chicken, noodles and fried rice. This place seems to be popular for take out as there are way more take out orders I notice than people sitting in. They do have a table that can sit up to maybe 10 people but the majority are 4 person booths. Pepsi product served as well as domestic beers. Note they open Sundays only for dinner. read more

This is our favorite go to Chinese restaurant. Reminds me of the great Asian places in Chinatown San Francisco when I was young. The food is well prepared and never greasy or over salted. As a family of 8 it is hard to please everyone, but this place gets a 10. I always end up throwing food away because someone didn't like something. This place was awesome from the seating to the food. This place is small and quiet, but it had a table large enough for my family. The server was very tentive to our needs. We never order sodas but the lemon water was exceptional. We ordered four different entrees and they brought us extra plates as though they new we were going to share. Mangolian beef, shrimp rice noodles, and a combo plate with sweet and sour chicken. They were nice and hot and didn't take long to get out.
