Great selection of sushi, I personally like their tempura udon. Beef, chicken,& shrimp fried rice. Good selection of wine & beer.

The sushi here is great. The salmon nigiri was some of the best I had the first time I came here, perfectly cut to get the softest, tastiest bit of fish possible and perfectly portioned with rice. The next time I came back, though, eager to have more of the same, the nigiri was totally different. It was still fresh but cut thinner and at an odd angle. I guess the quality depends on which sushi chefs are working on a particular day. Nigiri aside, the rolls are fantastic. I've tried the Alaska roll, creamy crunch roll, the crunch munch roll as well as a sushi burrito and a couple of other tasty rolls. They serve some basic Korean and Japanese entrees as well. The decor is cool with modern light fixtures, a small electric fire pit next to a couple of the tables, pillows/cushions on the bench seats and bold flowers painted on the wall. My only little qualm is that two thirds of the restaurant are lit by bright white fluorescent bulbs. I wish the cozy hipster light bulbs extended throughout the whole restaurant. read more

My friends who live in Caledonia rave about Jaku... they boast of both its cheaper pricing for the quality & their SUSHI BURRITOS, which combine two of my favorite loves in life. The inside is nice, nothing too exciting & fairly modern... the wait staff was overwhelmed as two people apparently called off work that day... & they're waiting on their liquor license still which won't come until late December or January. I'm a creature of habit and decided upon their Crunch Munch II ($12 for most of their specialty rolls) which had eel sauce on top, tempura shrimp and crab salad inside, and it was a solid sized portion and held together well. I wasn't impressed with the taste, probably a 6/10. I also ordered their chicken tempura appetizer which was a HUGE portion and presented well, but also just mediocre in taste. My friend enjoyed her squid salad though, well dressed and a good portion. We didn't order dessert, but based on the beautiful creations they brought to other tables I would recommend trying them out! So we usually dine in, especially for sushi. Yesterday we were in a bit of a rush however, and decided to have our first Jaku try be carry out. We got the Michigan Roll, Volcano Roll, and 2 others o honestly forgot the name of, along with some seaweed salad. I think we have a new favorite...the sushi and seaweed were so FREASH and full of delicious flavor, and that was 20+ minutes after arriving back home. If you want good sushi in MI, here it is. Had some great takeout on a whim the other night. Was able to order online and specify the time that I wanted. Walked right in and it was all packed up and ready to go. Got home and realized that a side salad was missing. Oh well. Food was good! Not the best I've ever had, but definitely satisfied my sushi craving. I need to find out if they have specials throughout the week because my take-out was pretty $$$. Had plenty of leftovers for the next day, though. read more

The food was absolutely wonderful. The sushi had thick slices of salmon and tuna. The miso soup was full of flavor. I would give five stars for the food by itself. The service was terrible. Our waiter came out three times to ask us questions, forgot to bring us water or silverware. We had to ask a different waiter to get those for us. read more

This sushi is 100% still the best sushi place in Grand Rapids. The quality of nigiri you get for the price is always outstanding. Pieces are so thick and you can tell they get their fish delivered from somewhere else compared to the sushi places in Grand Rapids. Even as new places pop up in this area, we always find ourselves still going to this location. Alcohol prices are affordable and sometimes borderline cheap, with great quality to them. I recommend this place to everyone that comes into town, and they always hate me because they end up spending $100-200 in a week here so be careful! Very addicting. read more

My lunch was ok. The miso soup was my favorite. The calamari looks and tastes good but was not crunchy at all. The food was not that hot. My shrimp shumai had a lot of water on the bottom of the bowl like they microwaved pre-packed shumai. My pork katsu was very dry, cold and again did not taste fresh. Our stone bimbibap was hot because we paid extra for a hot stone bowl. I didn't get any any beef from it because there was very little meat and after my dad's one bite there was no more beef, lol. The cannon ball appetizer is why we keep coming back - it is SO good! We weren't a huge fan of the sushi rolls, definitely found that the specialty ones didn't compare to Maru's, so we just order the basic (or just the canon ball!) if we need more food. After having been to the Jaku in Caledonia many times we were over the moon when one opened up at Knapp's Corner. The interior here is almost double the size of the other one and the overall decor is great. We came in on a Sunday at 5pm for an early dinner. When we arrived it was pretty slow but when we left the place was packed. We were seated immediately and the waiter was quick to get our drinks and take our food order. We started with the Korean citron tea which was amazing as usual. For starters we had the chicken tempura which was light and flaky- the chicken was super fresh and almost melted in your mouth. For entrees we went with the sushi burritos- I had the chicken bacon tuna option. It was ALOT of food and I could barely finish half of my burrito, but it had good flavors. My wife had the kimchi bulgogi burrito with a sesame wrap and loved it. Overall we are super pumped that Jaku is now near us and we will be back soon. read more

A friend of ours ordered sushi for takeout while we were at Frederik Meijer Gardens. The presentation was absolutely beautiful, but I will say the fish was very fishy tasting, strong odor and definitely not up to my expectations. We have always ordered from Ju Sushi and I have never been disappointed so my standards and my expectations were set pretty high. I was so excited to see this second location pop up here on the north end of town! I have only been able to get to the original Jaku a few times before and really enjoyed the food there but of course, was at an inconvenient location for me to frequent very often. This place is basically a transplant, located on East Beltline, very similar chic, modern ambience, very tasteful and somewhat more spacious than its predecessor. From what i could tell, their menu was the same too. Lots of interesting sushi options with some pretty ornate specialty rolls for reasonable price, plus all the standard simple rolls. Other offerings include signature Korean dishes like bibimbop, bulgogi, kimchi, galbi etc, etc... specialty bento boxes, various Japanese dishes like gyōza, shumai, katsu, udon, various tempura dishes, and some non-performative teppanyaki (hibachi) options, and I saw someone at the table next to mine order an actual "sushiritto." Yes, the sushiritto has officially made its way to GR via Jaku! Need i say more?! Overall, Jaku is a fantastic sushi joint/Asian restaurant with very high quality sushi and Korean and Japanese food, higher price than the average, but still cheaper than the premiere sushi places in town like Maru and Ju. Fantastic service and ambience. Could offer some more veg. sushi options, but I still superlove the veggie tempura rolls they do have nonetheless. We like to order anything with spicy tuna as it is reliably good every time we visit. Busy on Fridays and weekends so plan ahead. I was SO excited to see they opened this location! It is a LOT closer to us (in Sparta) than any other good sushi joint.. and I was so excited! We ordered take out Saturday night (sick kid and a bad sushi craving = take out). Their website online ordering tool is SUPER easy to use. Their ASAP time frame is 40 minutes - which worked really well for us! They share a small parking lot with Noodles (not sure if parking in back?). The restaurant was busy when I got there around 630 to pick up our food. It looked like they do quote a bit of pick up orders, too. The restaurant is pretty small on the inside, but i LOVE the decor. We got: Miso soup - good, standard. Chicken fried rice - OMG. We literally were arguing who got to eat the leftovers. SO GOOD. And SO cheap. Crunch Munch Roll - our favorite of the three. REALLY good. Nice spice to it Angel Roll - pretty big in diameter! Good, but more sweet than I would have liked. Las Vegas II - out least favorite.. but still good. Maybe not a fan of the cooked tuna in the middle.. but it is deep fried? Ika salad - REALLY good. Like, our favorite is hard to beat form our other fav sushi joint.. and this was AS good if not better. High hopes. Failed by slow service Came in for lunch sat at the sushi counter. Ordered well before many others who came in. Ordered an appetizer of fried tempura veggies and shrimp. Watched others come in after us and get their appetizers and orders before we even got our appetizer. Also ordered two sushi burritos. Sushi burritos came out before the appetizer. Excuse given was kitchen was backed up. But after watching multiple bento boxes and appetizers come out friend who ordered after us can't believe that excuse. We went on Monday, June 24th, around 6:00pm-ish and it wasn't busy yet. The wait time for our food is only about 15 mins. The waiter who served us was so nice, I'm sorry I forgot his name, but he wears glasses and a hat. He gave us a great service and even asked if we have question about the menu. I ate Mayberry roll and my daughter ate chicken katsu bento, both were delicious. Mayberry roll is highly recommended. The tuna and salmon fish and cream cheese blended so well with the sweetness of the fresh cut strawberries. The only negative side in here is the space. It wasn't big enough that the chairs and tables are close to each other, and it made me feel uncomfortable. I tried this place twice since it came so highly recommended and was extremely underwhelmed with my order both times. The fish didn't seem fresh and the rolls were just not very good. I got three rolls the first time and two rolls that were different from my first order the second time. All five rolls I tried were mediocre. There is much better sushi to be found. read more
