For the nearly a decade the people in the service department at James Ford have been taking great care of me and my two Mercury Grand Marquis. The only time I ever had to call a tow truck for my older vehicle was when I donated it to KQED and I put well over 220k miles on her. Marco has always been professional and pleasant. One busy day when he discovered that I was walking home, he searched for me on Highway 1, found me and gave me a ride. Now THAT'S service. Lately, Mathew has taken over and is doing a really good job. A big shout out to Rich, a mechanic who found a twenty dollar bill that had been sucked into the ventilation system from my glove compartment. He could have easily kept it but instead, it was waiting for me when I picked up my car. You can trust these people to do the job right and honestly. I wish I could give them 6 stars. read more

This dealership has poor management and owners. The service manager Roy was very rude and disrespectful! I was discriminated against, and offended on many different ways! I was told I had to pay CASH ONLY almost $11,000 even though I was a preferred Ford customer and own a FLEET of Fords ANDDD have Ford credit! All because I had concerns about my bill which I have every right to they automatically labeled me as someone who couldn't pay I guess. Nevertheless my husband and I gross over $400,000 per year so of course I PAID the CASH because that's my work truck but I will be seeking Justice if I don't get an apology and something for the trouble that they caused me and my company. I have avails credit for my business and I was not given that option. They say "it's because I don't live in California" yeah right so allll out of towners have to pay cash? Excellent customer service experience. I purchased a used Explorer many months ago, but recently, when I got a flat, pulled out the mini spare, and, to my surprise, did not find the jack and lug wrench! I solve my immediate problem by using a jack from another car, but it was frustrating, to say the least. I called James Ford the next day, and was pleasantly surprised to learn that they would send me a jack kit--at no cost to me, shipped directly to my home. All I had to do was ask. No arguing, no persuading needed. Mostly, retailers disappoint when it comes to resolving customer complaints, but not this time. read more

TERRIBLE!!! Was here for basic oil change which took 3 hours. In that time I was asked if my engagement ring was a real diamond by staff. Gerald is amazing! I have always dreaded buying a new car because of previous experiences but Gerald has changed that....he worked hard to get the car (the model, color, and accessories) I wanted, other dealers I went to just said they only had what was on the lot! He continually stayed in contact with us to the end , even called after to check if we had any questions, said to drop by anytime if I needed help with any of the functions. At first I couldn't train my garage door opener, he said he would come out to my house to help train it if necessary! Where do you get service like that!! I am a lifetime HMB resident and did not listen to friends advice. I had to see first hand the product and service they offer. I will start off to say their used car inventory is sad to say the least. All the trucks were filthy inside and out. I asked the reason and they said water shortage. I was talking about the interior? I found a truck I was interested in negotiated a price and would return in the morning to pick up and sign papers. He said they would have it detailed and ready. I showed up and truck was filthy and smelled of smoke. This was the last time I will visit James Ford HMB. I wanted to support local, but not at this armature dealership. I needed to talk to an expert about issues with our new (5 days old today) Ford Fusion Energi. I went into the sales showroom to ask who I could talk to. The salesman heard my inquiry, as above, to which I added that we did not buy it from James Ford. We bought the car at Serramonte Ford (this, it turns out, matters(?)). The salesman asked where I lived (told him...it's just a few miles away), then he asked, "Why didn't you buy it from us?" I decided to just leave. Apparently James Ford is interested JAMES Fords, but not others. I had hoped we would have enjoyed the convenience of the nearby dealership for the future care of our new car. Instead, we'll be going the extra miles to Serramonte. "Why didn't you but it from us?"...just lucky, I guess, or, maybe because James Ford didn't have it the way we wanted it, anyway, duh. btw: I went right to Serramonte after the visit to James to discuss our issue and nobody asked where I bought our car, they all just started listening and helping. read more

The buying experience was a rather good experience. However, I would give the Service Department 1 star. I brought it in for a "recall" and have had nothing but problems since. When I initially called the service dept. I told them The message I got was "imobilizer fail function", so i called and asked what it was. The answer was "I don't know". NOT a good start. I had taken it in again (3 rd visit) . My Fiesta wouldn't start, I called and they said "tow" it down. Then called AAA and they came out jumped it and said check engine light, brake traction off, and other messages. Drove it down there and got a loaner. Well, had a mishap with the loaner and it's costing close to $3,000 !!! Had they done the job right the first time... I would have never had to go back again. Marco, Service Manager was actually very comforting but doesn't understand why I thought they should bear some responsibility as it was THEIR mechanic. I will be going to Serramonte Ford for future service. Very disappointed that they have no heart. read more

The service department is great! We recently had two problems with our Fusion. We got an appointment with no trouble and were totally pleased with the friendly, prompt, expert service. Darryl explained everything clearly and made the whole process painless. Best of all, he was able to have all the work done under our warranty, so we owed nothing, even though we did not buy our car from this dealer. Update: The dealership was very demeaning and unhelpful after discussing the deceit that happened. They at least agreed to send us the second copy of the car's keys, but did nothing to remedy that they sold us a car that was supposedly "excellent" but had major aesthetic issues (mismatched paint). They continued to be vague and offered nothing to compensate for their gross misrepresentation. Do not go here. They lie and don't care about their customers AT ALL. If they can take advantage of you and get away with it, they will. We recently bought a lightly used vehicle advertised on the James Ford Dealership's website. Upon seeing the vehicle online, I called and spoke with the sales associate, Gerald Watson. Gerald was very kind on the phone and explained that the vehicle was in transit to their location. However, he assured me that the quality of the used vehicles they sold on their lot was a "5 out of 5". Because we wanted the vehicle described on the online listing/phone conversation with Gerald, we agreed to put down a deposit. Gerald promised to disclose any conspicuous defects/issues with the vehicle if there was anything less than excellent when it arrived. It arrived, no issues were disclosed that would compromise the "excellence" of the vehicle, we paid for the vehicle in full. It arrived to us a week later, across the country (we bought it sight-unseen---our first mistake, but thought we could trust a Ford dealership). Needless to say, it was not the vehicle we bought (and paid over Kelly blue book value for that vehicle in "excellent" condition). The vehicle has such poor aftermarket paint repair work, that it doesn't match across the nearly the entire exterior. We noticed within seconds of seeing the vehicle for the first time. Not to mention, a giant scratch (over a foot long) across the back rear door, AND the vehicle was not detailed (filled with crumbs, stains, and spills). I had an appraisal completed of the vehicle and it requires over $5,000 in paint work to return it to industry standard. Pretty disappointing from James Ford considering we paid more than we should have WHEN we thought it was in pristine condition. We have brought our concerns to the dealership, Ford corporate, and the Better Business Bureau. We hope to amend this review to end on a pleasant note. However, we are very displeased with the dishonesty and misrepresentation of the vehicle we bought. If this is not resolved, we're not above pursuing legal action. We will return with a report with how the dealership responds. read more

The whole process was painless and I didn't feel the anxiety that I usually do at car dealerships. From the moment you walk in the door they treat you like family. We had the best car buying experience we've ever had at James Ford. Before going, we went through TrueCar.com and were quoted a price for the vehicle we were interested in. Then we went to James Ford for a test drive. Everyone there was incredibly accommodating and kind, and stayed long after closing so we could get our car. Sean was especially helpful, and made sure we understood every aspect of the new car before we drove away, even offering to meet with us another day to go over other features we didn't have time to discuss. In my opinion James Ford is false advertising. We were looking to purchase a 2011 Ford F-350 XL from them. The website said that it would be 0% financing for 60 months and $2000 cash back to be used for the down payment. According to the sales person, Sean Johnson this offer was just for 2012 models. Also, they wanted to give us a used after market radio pulled from another truck. Our trade-in would have been our 2005 F-150 with satellite radio, spray on bedliner and tonneau cover. They only wanted to give us $7600 which is appraised by the bank at $10,500. They did not even bother offer to add a spray on bed liner or tonneau cover to the truck. In our opinion they really are not interested in selling the truck even though it was there by mistake. Honestly, we do not recommend anyone to go to James Ford in Half Moon Bay. read more

Another one star for the service department. I got a check engine light on my new "used" Focus so I had a friend of mine read the code off my car which came back as P0125 insufficient coolant temperature. I started looking around an found a jumper wire from the battery to the #1 fan relay, causing the fans to stay on all the time. I pulled the wire and got the engine to operating temperature, which it was unable to do, and found that the fans did not turn on. I figured there was a short in the #1 fan relay or in the engine coolant temperature sensor or lastly the thermostat was stuck open. I brought my car into the service department and explained what code was thrown, the trouble shooting I had done and to start with the #1 fan relay, then the sensor and finally the thermostat. I if these three things don't solve the problem call me. The service manager or owner rudely responded that he doesn't give any credence to codes pulled off by a $200 code reader. He went on to say that their reader cost $10,000 and gives much more information. I responded with that's great but I'm telling you what I found and what I think is wrong with my car. He said there is a minimum fee of $150 to hook-up the machine and run the diagnostic. Fine, $150 to tell me what I already know. $258 dollars they ended up replacing the fan relay which cost $30. Oh yea, and the driver side headlight was out so I asked to replace the bulb, which they said it was caused by a loose switch. Well they couldn't even figure that out so I was back picking up a replacement bulb from those idiots. How many mechanics does it take to change a light bulb at James Ford? I almost for got to say that I have purchased two trucks from them but that will never ever happen again!!!!! read more

My husband and I both come from car business families. Nothing makes us shudder more than having to go to an auto mall or large dealership to buy a car. That all changed when we moved to HMB and bought a used car from James Ford. I went online, searched their inventory asked a few questions and had a call from Jimmy. The next day we went in and looked at the car, made an offer on it and bought it. We left there smiling. We had a casual, extremely professional transaction. As we literally drove off into the sunset we were as relaxed and pleased as if we had bought the car at my own son's car lot in Tucson. Thank you Jimmy Brandt and James Ford. I saw one of their new car online with a good price, called to confirm the price and availability before I drove down there. Once there I showed the printout of the car with stock number and advertised price to the salesmen who did not say anything at the time before showing me the car. I noticed the car (a new car, last year's model) was already corroded in many metal parts including metal inside the engine compartment and was covered in sand. After the test drive, when I was ready to buy, the salesman refused to honor their online price, first he said it should have been $5,000 more, then the manager produced a printout at $4,000 higher price. Apparently they changed the online price while we were discussing. I pointed out that they were not in compliance of the false advertising law. They both got angry and accused me of trying to make them lose money. The manager said his offer was to let me buy the car at $3,000 above their original advertised price. I searched online with my phone while in their lot, found another car with similar options with discount similar to their original advertised price at another Ford dealer, drove over there and bought it the same evening without incident. I can give them benefit of doubt that original price maybe a honest mistake. But the way they handled the situation was completely unacceptable. No apologies, got angry and being rude. Stay away from James Ford if you don't want to deal with rude people, corroded cars, and a business not willing honor their advertised price or at least make a deal reasonably close to the advertised price. read more

James Ford has courteous and customer-focused service advisors. Over the years, their service technicians have proven unable to repair or capably service our vehicles, so we have ceased taking our cars there. With no faith in their service facility, we'll not buy another vehicle there either. How disappointing. read more

Just recently I was in a car accident and needed a new car fast. I knew what I wanted and visited several other Ford dealerships (all with awful experiences). I remember buying my first Ford at James Ford and remembered what a great experience it all was. I decided to go back there and once again, was impressed by them. I worked with Gerald who showed me new cars in my price range. Never once was he pressuring me. He let me have my space and was there if I needed any questions asked. He made me feel so comfortable that I went ahead and bought a car right then and there. The finance manager Ed was also great. He helped work on finding me the lowest interest rate and compared to other Ford dealerships who were offering me a 8.0% interest rate, Ed was able to get me 3.79%. Once again, so thankful I went to James Ford and I highly recommend this dealership to everyone! read more

My inital contact with James Ford and their amazing salesman Sean Johnson was back in December of 2008 after my car was totalled and I was looking for a new one. I told Sean that I wanted a small, economical, girlie car for under 15,000. He got me a 2007 Ford Focus which I loved dearly until July of 2011 when I was ready to buy my first new car. I returned to James Ford and to Sean with hopes of having the same exellent experience. They met and exceeded my expectations! I am now the proud owner of a brand new 2011 Ford Edge! After looking online at all the options I was confused, but one phone call to Sean and he explained everything to me in detail so I wouldn't be buying a car with features I did not need or want. The particular car I wanted was not avaliable on their lot so Sean took care of the dealer trade and just a few short days later I was sitting in my brand new Edge! Sean showed me how the touchscreen and many other cool features worked and off I went. I love how respectful and easy going Sean and the rest of the staff at James Ford made my car buying experience. I recommend them to all my friends and family because they are thorough and will take the time to meet all of your car buying needs! read more

Horrendous. Took in a vehicle for warning light diagnostic...complete farce. Disgusting sales strategy by "Jim"...take it or leave it! Technicians had no idea of the problem and were going to charge $2k for an $18 dollar part. Thank goodness for Marco in the Service Department. I took my 2015 Ford Expedition in to be inspected before the sale of it with a company called Shift became final. I had recently lost everything in the fire and this car purchase was the first solid thing I would own. Roy the service manager treated me with such kindness and respect. His customer service should be an example of how to treat a client throughout the industry. He leads a great team who also replicate that same service. He did a thorough inspection and gave honest professional advice and results. He is a certified technition in the field for 38 years. I never felt taken advantage of or sold on anything. I would absolutely go back to him. As by how busy his garage was I am not the only one that feels that way. He was also referred to me by another mechanic in Burlingame who has five star review on Yelp, On Track Auto who said that he often heard they do good work on trucks and larger vehicles. If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. Let me start out by saying the customer service here should be more adequately referred to as customer disservice. I brought my Ford C-Max Energi plugin hybrid to this dealership a few weeks ago when it was raining on a Friday afternoon to receive the service of recharging its battery. This service has always been provided to me without any hassle or charge at every Ford dealership I've ever visited. That was not this case at this dealership. As a Ford Customer I was told that I could always recharge my battery at any ford dealership as a complimentary service. I found where they 220 volt charging station was at the dealership by looking it up on an app for my phone. So I brought my car over to the charging station by the service center. It's easy to find by the service center because there are two stations labeled with Ford Logos. I plugged in and sat in my car because it was raining. About 15 minutes later a crotchety old man by the name of James Brandt who professed to be the GM came over to my window and tapped on it. He questioned me in a very brusk tone asking me who said I could charge my car. I said it's a Ford C max energi that I own and was told when I got it I could receive complimentary charging at any Ford dealership as a basic customer service. He violently jerked the plug outa my car and told me to get the fuck off his lot. I said I was shocked by this but proceeded to leaving the lot. I took a wrong turn and ended up in a front lot that had no exit to the street. He then closed a gate and had me shut in on his lot. I asked him if I could please leave and he said I could either drive my car out through a muddy field for which it would have surely gotten stuck or I could wait for the police to come for which he said he was calling. I told him I would be filling a grievance about this matter and that I wanted to leave but he was preventing me from doing so. After a few minutes he finally opened the gate that was blocking me from leaving. I had a few choice words about him and perhaps his mother ass well on my departure. I then proceeded to call Fords corporate customer service line. I was advised that this incident was very disappointing and that allowing Ford vehicle owners to charge their plugin hybrids and electric vehicles at all dealerships is a complimentary customer service available at all Ford Dealerships. I was told this report would go on file and would affect their Franchise license renewal potentially. I certainly hope this dealership doesn't not get a renewal of its license from Ford. This dealership and its GM James Brandt do nothing but bring shame the Ford brand. I have never in my life had such a poor customer service experience. Please do yourself the favor of going elsewhere and take heed of the numerous 1 star reviews posted here. read more

I wanted to buy a car for my son to learn to drive in and that we could tow behind a motorhome on "all fours". After doing some research, we found that the ford focus might be a good fit for our needs. I searched the internet to find a good deal, and located a new 2014 focus hatchback in the color I was looking for at James Ford in Half Moon bay. Even though they were located over one hundred miles from us, they had such a great deal on the vehicle that I decided to send an email expressing my interest. Steve Meister responded almost immediately, and within 24 hours he was able to offer me a very good deal with the vehicle purchase and financing. The following day we drove to Half Moon Bay to pick up our new car. Everything was ready and waiting for us upon our arrival, and Steve was friendly, courteous, and respectful throughout the entire process. I have never felt comfortable buying a new car, but, I never felt pressured or frustrated during the transaction, and I couldn't be happier with my new car. Thanks for a great experience! read more
