It's amazing how many different types of dishes are prepared to a high level of quality, from burgers and breakfasts that are top notch, to a spicy sausage penne that would pass muster at a good Italian restaurant, to some excellent meatloaf, and many more, my wife and I have never been disappointed at Jason's in Menlo Park. Another Tuesday night, another first date. Where to go? I'd heard good things about Jason's, so I gave it a try. Easy to find (right on the El Cam), free parking in their lot, and a front door without a sticky handle: a perfect start to what hopefully would be a night of joy. Service was excellent, there were plenty of comfortable padded booths, and the menu was eclectic to say the least, ranging from breakfast foods to asian cuisine to italian dishes. So many choices and only one stomach (although my date looked as though she might also have a rumen; hopefully i would find out later that evening). I had the papaya salad as an entree. It apparently was meant for at least four diners, but was so outstanding that I wrapped my laughing gear around it and nearly finished it off. My date had the pork chop with three eggs and potatoes as an appetizer, which she seemed to enjoy judging by the fervor with which she consumed it. Her next dish was the tofu in cumin sauce, a large portion of cubed and fried tofu in a light Malaysian sauce with string beans; this she said was just ok, not spicy enough for her advanced tastes. Her main course was another selection from the breakfast menu: a rather generous serving of salmon benedict. This she found to be outstanding, and fairly healthy (lots of stuff like omega-3's and other assorted anti-oxidants in the fish). Being curious about the desserts, she was obliged to give the strawberry milkshake a go: it was nice and rich, as good as the Creamery's. I am a local business owner in the area, and eat out in the community often, especially breakfast. Jason's cafe is easy access parking. Once inside you will find that is not a wait, there is always seating available. Reason being......the food is awful, nasty, and the owners attitude is a great fit to the run down atmosphere. To top the total unsatisfied meal, when I had use the bathroom, I got to use the gas station type stick with a key tied onto the end and walk outside to fine the smallest bathroom I have ever seen. Campers and RV' s are outfitted better. I did let the owner know I was not pleased with the meal and the wait staff, he shrugged his shoulders and stated that I had an option to eat at his business or not. I thanked him and let him know he would never see my family again. Ironically, my office is across the street of his business so my comment of never seeing him again my not be true. Save your time and your money, try Anne's on Santa Cruz about 45 seconds away. read more

I don't know why people stand and wait to get in to Stacks 20 - 30 min when just a block away this gem of a restaurant sits. Jason's Cafe is the only restaurant whose pancakes I will eat. They are fantastic. And that is just the beginning. The menu is varied enough to be able to enjoy American and Asian favorites. Great family atmosphere and terrific service. Don't be fooled by the lack of flare on the outside. Go inside and enjoy a truly wonderful cafe. No it's not hyped up like Stack's and IHOP but that lack of hype adds to the charm and comfort of the place. Stop following the so called "in-crowd" and walk the extra block to Jason's Cafe!!! We love this place for breakfast! There's a huge variety of egg dishes, plus pancakes, waffles, French toast, etc. Poached eggs are perfectly cooked, which is a mark of a competent kitchen. I've tried many different dishes, have often been pleasantly surprised, and never disappointed. Don't be put off by the nondescript exterior and dated decor; this place is a local gem. read more

This is where my company takes their manager for their birthday. I usually order their chicken quesadilla, omelets. They have breakfast that serves all day. Their food is good. Fruits are always fresh. Service are always great! When you notify the server that it's someones' birthday, they usually bring out Flan and sing to you. read more

This was the worst breakfast experience I have ever had. I honestly don't know how this place stays in business. We ordered the California Eggs Benedict, the Country Skillet, and one biscuit with gravy. The eggs in Benedict were severely overbooked, the avocado was mushy and off colored and it was overall very salty. The skillet was excessively salty. We never received our biscuit with gravy, but were charged for it anyways. Unfortunately, the service was awful as well. We waited over 40min to get our food, never were asked if we wanted a water refill or even if liked our food. We will never go back there again, even if we are desperately hungry, like we were today. Tasty breakfast, especially the eggs benedict

We often travel to the Bay Area for Stanford games. We stumbled upon this little gem a year or so back, and have become fans. We make this our first choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is a bit tired looking, needs a refurbish asap, but the food is solid, good, with generous portions. The staff is really friendly, and the prices are great. We will continue to patronize this wonderful little "neighborhood" cafe. read more

A lot of people don't seem to understand the eclectic nature of Jason's menu, but in reality that is what a real East Coast Diner provides. You can get good (though not great) ham and eggs, chop suey, or lasagna at any good New Jersey diner at any time of the day, and Jason's keeps this tradition. For breakfast we ordered chicken fried steak, tom yum, and roti w/curry. The chicken fried steak was great, crispy on the outside and tender inside. The Asian food wasn't completely authentic but was quite good, as good as any decent neighborhood Thai restaurant. Portions were generous, prices were fare, and service attentive. Waited for a long time to have a table for 6. Waited for our order to be taken. What's worst is the noise the bus person do when he clean up the tables. Dropping the plates and utensils on the tub. This is one of our favorite Sunday breakfast/ brunch restaurants. Good service and good food. They have basic breakfast and lunch items. The home style potatoes are the bomb.com! We stumbled across this place when they were brand new and we attempted to go to stacks but after being told of a ridiculous wait we saw it across the street and gave it a shot! We've been going ever since. Only downside is people know about it now and occasionally there's a wait but so far not much at all. read more

Our family loves Jason's because everyone can order what they want. I love breakfast, my son LOVES the philly cheesesteak and my daughter loves the chicken curry. Its nice to go to place that everyone agrees to go to and no one argues about. My only comment would be that they need to work on their decor. So I have to go to Jason's regularly because they serve penne pasta with half a pound of melted butter on it, and generous parmesan cheese, something that is an indescribable hit with my four year old. We've always had great service, but I've never been there when more than two other tables are taken. I've been wondering how they're making it, but maybe it's through their breakfasts. We stick to the menu basics, but I'm blown away by the variety and selection of ethnic choices. However, the place seems to have an identity crisis with regards to ambiance and decor: is it a Denny's wannabe? A train museum? A former Pizza Hut? A hip South Asian restaurant under cover? Wondering if they might do better if they set a more decisive tone, but who knows. At least they have good service and vast pools of butter on pasta, so we'll keep going. read more

My husband and I discovered Jason's a few months ago and it's now our regular place to go. We love the variety of dishes and always get excellent service. The Kobe roll is my favorite and my husband is crazy about the Classic eggs benedict. We haven't tried their pasta dishes but would imagine they must be good as we've never had a bad experience there. Sorry...I wanted to like this place. But I didn't. The service was fine. The prices were definitely high for what they served but not outrageously so. But the quality was severely lacking. I paid about $11 (+ tax & tip) for a smallish fajita w/ some soup & salad. The salad was good, otherwise, not so good. It came with some salsa from a jar. My wife had snapper with rice & veggies. Fish stunk. We couldn't finish it despite both being very hungry. Kids were happy with their pancakes (for dinner!) and bacon burger (what son described as "sausage-meat" instead of beef). Great food! I dine at Jason's quite often and have had many items on the menu, from omelets to pasta and even the Chinese food. I've always been happy with my food. The service is quick, people are nice and the food is always cooked right. It's a great casual place to go with a group since their menu variety is huge, everyone in your party will find something they like. My personal favorites are the Jason's club sandwich, chicken fried steak and the crispy chow mein. I initially thought it was wierd that you can order Chinese food and breakfast at the same restaurant, but it's actually really great! I have been coming here for about 10 years. I have always had a pleasant experience. The food and service have always been good. Last night I found a foreign object in my omelette. I showed it to the staff and without hesitation they comped the meal. No fuss, no muss. I am very grateful that they made the right decision and will be back again for their yummy omelettes. We haven't had everything on the menu, but Jason's Cafe has the best fish and chips that my family and I have ever had in our lives! Tender perfectly cooked fish in a delectably crunchy coating with not a bit of greasiness and the fries are perfect! The portions are more than generous, the tarter sauce is tangy. Jason's is on the Northbound side of El Camino just North of Oak Grove Ave, but if you are in the business district it's well worth crossing the road for. I've been coming here every week or so since they opened, and the food and service have always been excellent. There's a long menu but most of the dishes can be cooked or assembled quickly which is good if you are on a short break. Helpings are large, prices are low. There's a Kids' Menu for the under-12s. You won't come here for the decor but the seating is comfortable, and you can see into the kitchen which is always a good sign in a restaurant. Breakfast - available all day - includes plenty of meat dishes, crepes, skillets and five kinds of eggs Benedict as well as all the standard items (e.g. 13 kinds of omelet, served with toast and potoatoes). For lunch, 18 kinds of sandwich, from tuna melt to Hawaiian barbecue chicken, 11 kinds of salad, and so on. The House Specials - for lunch or dinner - are nicely international, from Korean BBQ shortribs to "fish and chips" as good as you'd get in England ("chips" are French fries and Jason's are the best in town). Finally there are seven pasta dishes, served with garlic bread and soup or salad. There are some interesting fruit and/or ice-cream desserts, also sweet crepes but no pastry pies. This was my first time at Jason's but definitely not the last. It is a typical diner atmosphere with some age where the carpet is worn but the place was clean. However, the Jason's omelet was amazing and huge. It was flavorful and highly recommended any time of the day; great for someone trying to eat low carb. I ordered a country fried steak before I knew how big the omelet was. This was cooked and breaded to perfection and tender unlike many I've had in the Bay Area. Coming from the south I'm usually disappointed in the gravy. This was perfect and some my dad who made the best would even approve of. It was even served in the side so you could dip it and have as much or little as you wanted and didn't make the steak soggy by the time you got to the end. My server "Espi" was also fabulous and attentive even though the place was full. Getting a parking spot in the lot may be an issue at peak times but there are some street parking available. i had a very bad experience at this cafe. my boyfriend and i eat majority of our meals out..and have driven as far north as s.f and south to monterey for a good breakfast. this would have been a breeze from fremont...i wanted waffles, tho i wanted a combo...i would have paid extra for the combo, but the waitress said it does not come that way...i ordered a garden omelette with a side of bacon..hash browns were non-exhisted, contents of omelette was avocado, chunks of onion and green peppers with chopped tomatoes...don't know what type of garden that came from...soon after i started eating my meal, the waitress came back and said that she asked her supervisor if a combo could be done with a waffle...we told her to stop while she was ahead of the game...i was not happy already...but continued for 5 minutes how she could do it for the next time..omgoodness...i will never go back there...i work in customer service..and that was the worst...my parents owned a cafe in hawaii...they would have bend over backwards to make the customer happy...this was just not right...i will drive to stacks for my breakfast. read more

I've been to Jason's three times and I will be going back over and over again. Jason's Cafe might not be the high end cafe that some people like, but unlike those places the food at Jason's is extremely good at an affordable price. The first time I went there I had a Mexican omelet which I could only eat half of because it was so filling. The second time I had a Philly Cheesteak which wasn't anything special yet it was fresh and still good. The last time I went I again got an omelet and once again I only could eat half because it was so filling. Every breakfast plate comes with fruit, toast, and hash browns so you will definitely get your bang for your buck. One thing to that they had which I really enjoyed was their salad rolls. It's basically a salad but they rap it in rice wraps, Asian style, and you dip them into the dressing, its different but really good, the Kobe roll is my favorite.Jason's might not be nicest place or be all hyped up like other places, but if you want really good food at a good price I would strongly recommend Jason's Cafe. read more
