Okay, this was my first Philly Cheese steak sandwich-EVER! I KNOW, how did I live so long without one, and here in Reno where (there is rumored) more than one fantastic eatery specializing in Cheese Steak? Honestly, I am not sure how I was roped into going to get one, maybe a friend's Jedi mind trick? ;) So, I searched Cheese steak, Reno and up popped Allie's review of Philly's....not so great, and they were closing in 20 minutes...Why so early on a Friday night? Next in line was Jersey Mike's, and again a review from Allie....hmmmmm...Allie is a Jersey girl and a good friend, with that gentle nudge I decided to head over and see what I have been missing out on... Friday at 8 pm and it was empty...but there stood three attentive and rather enthusiastic servers at the counter who upon hearing I had never had a Cheese steak-- walked me through the menu... The menu is sparse, but I like that-not a lot of fluff just some great tried and true sandwiches without a lot of additions... I am THAT sandwich person who hates a sandwich full of wilted salad and too many dressings... I picked the uber sized Kahuna so I could share it ($15.03 including tax). It really was huge, like TWO normal sized sandwiches... Within a short time it was ready to-go. They offer chips and beverages to round out their sandwiches, and they even have a cheese steak bowl if you need a gluten free option, or are eating low carb! It took me 10 minutes to get home, but not-to-worry, they (it was cut into two sandwiches and each wrapped separately) were wrapped in aluminum foil and brown paper, so still toasty hot and cheesy by the time I got that first bite... I now see what all of the hoopla is about...yummy! I loved everything about it! The bread had that nice smooshie to crunchy ratio, not too much doughy-ness. In fact, I was surprised, usually there is way too much bread on a sub-like sandwich, but in this case it was just the right amount. The Kahuna has onions, peppers, mushrooms, jalapenos and sliced beef...all of it was grilled together and topped with melted cheesy goodness. None of the ingredients over powered the savory sliced beef. I wouldn't say it was packed with anything, but like a good burrito, just enough of everything to round out the flavor and texture. I was offered a Rookie cookie while paying for my sandwich which was a nice way of welcoming a newbie, and all three servers really seemed to genuinely care that I had a great experience. It is located in a good location, open till 9, and near where I run errands most weekends. So, although not in my neighborhood, worth driving to for a quick meal. I definitely will be back for another cheese steak and I will probably try one of their hot pastrami sandwiches next. read more

I finally got the chance to check out Jersey Mike's yesterday for lunch. I ordered the #56 Big Kahuna Cheese Steak in a Tub. It's their famous cheese steak with grilled onions and peppers with mushrooms, jalapenos, and extra cheese... mine being in a tub was on a bed of lettuce instead of on bread making it safe for me to eat (gluten free). There is definitely a chance of cross-contamination of gluten here, but I did fine with what I ordered. I ordered my jalapenos on the side, because I like jalapenos but only to a certain extent. I can only handle a certain amount of heat. It turned out to be a good thing, because the jalapenos were actually dry. I probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't order them on the side. Other than that, I loved my meal. When I was asking if they have any kind of frequent buyer program (which they do), I mentioned that this was my first time there and one of the workers said something about me getting a free cookie since it was my first time there. They called it something like a Rookie Cookie. If that isn't what it's called, it's something that catchy. I couldn't eat it (since it isn't gluten free), but my son had it later and he enjoyed it. ;) This honestly is the best sub or any other sandwich done on a bed of lettuce (in lieu of bread) that I have found anywhere around town. I thought it fair to write a new review as this last visit is was as good as it gets. The Ruben sub was fantastic and the service was an 100% turnaround from my last visit. It is apparent that the owner really does care and he fixes the problem. The sub was simply amazing, mounds of corned beef on a beautiful roll with sour kraut and a tangy 1000 dressing. My spouse also order a sandwich "Mike's" way and was completely satisfied by the quality and taste of the sandwich. Best of all was the service, she was genuine, able to accommodate all request, and did it with a smile, I could not ask for a better experience. They ran out of bread so I ordered a chicken caesar wrap. Nasty nasty nasty! Dressing is watery and tastes awful. Chicken is cut way to big and long. Tortilla gets mushy fast. For how expensive it was I'm extremely disappointed. I won't be back. read more

This is a happening little shop next to the Nordstrom Rack so it is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking. This is important when you are trying to make it in and out of a place on a limited lunch hour. The menu had a variety of hot and cold sandwiches but I was here for the cheesesteak I kept seeing pictures on Yelp and Facebook. It comes in two sizes and the small is enough for one person. You also have the option of adding chips and a drink which round out the meal. The sandwich? It was good. The bread was soft but sturdy enough to hold everything and it was all fresh and hot. If anything I could have used a bit more meat on it but that is just my preference. I will be back The service was fast and friendly and the prices in line with other better fast food options in town. read more

Good sandwich although there are a lot of better options for a sandwich in Reno. Port of Subs, DeliTowne, Capriottis, etc are all located very close and are all delicious. It is a cheaper option and the staff was very nice so there are nice aspects of Jersey Mike's as well. read more

I'd really love to give Jersey Mike's a better review because I think it's really cool that they do fundraisers for local nonprofits and so I want to support those who give back to our community. Their subs are delicious, by the way! My hubs got the philly and the meat is so flavorful! The meat to veggie to meat ratio is spot on and the bread is nice and soft! I got the meatball sub and it's yummy! I've had better, but I've certainly had way worse. But my GAWD the service was so slow! It's a Friday evening and they only have three employees and a ton of call in orders to go along with everyone coming in. It took over a half hour for us to get our sandwiches, and 8 people left before they could order. They definitely need to staff better. Kudos to the employees for busting their butts though! Welp....haven't had Jersey Mike's in about 2-3 years give or take..so I was like what they heck let's go their for lunch..so I went..so I think I pulled up around 1215ish... Walked inside I was probably customer number 6 not bad..then I saw there were only two employees working but they were doing a good job taking orders and making the sandwiches and so and what not..so now it's my turn I order the Grilled buffalo chicken on wheat no tomatoes no blue cheese add ranch (my most common sandwich I get from any sandwich establishment unless they don't have it or don't offer it)..so I make it a combo drink and bag of chips..so I pay and take a seat wait for them to call my name...5 mins go by...10 mins go by haven't heard my name so am guessing they probably called it and I just didn't hear it so I walk up to counter look around no sandwich for me ok no worries I go back and take a seat..at this point am thinking this better be one hella of a buffalo chicken sandwich that am waiting 15 mins for...finally they call my name..at this point I am starving so badd I can eat chicken (word play) so I unwrap this magical sandwich that took 15 mins or so..as I open it.....No buffalo sauce and it's on white bread not wheat...So I take it back tell the employee "it's not made correctly I order buffalo grilled chicken on wheat I got reg chicken on white" she apologized and said they will fix it and bring it right back...so am thinking to my self please don't make me wait another 15 mins...(oh btw the way when I ordered the first time..the three customers who orders after me got their sandwiches before me) so they bring my sandwich back out with in 5Mins! Ok ok am About to devour this sandwich open it up and boom! Tomatoes! And it a bit soggy drench with buffalo sauce at this point now I have been there almost 30-35 mins with no sandwich to eat expect the bag of chips! So I finally get back up (I wait till there's no one ordering) go back up and ask for my money back tell the employee it's not made CORRECTLY AGAIN! So she refunds and I leave had to be back at work...So now am at work till 5..starving nothing to eat..what a horrible experience! This Jersey Mikes location was very good when they first opened but the quality and service of the staff have gone down. My last two visits have been poor, the chicken cheese steak sand was saturated heavily with mayo and the chicken did not have much flavor or seasoning. My last visit was this past Friday and the chipotle cheese steak was covered in mayo and the steak had little flavor. The young staff member who processed my order was very rude and seemed annoyed to help anyone out. I'm not going back to this location anytime soon read more

I was excited to see that Jersey Mike's opened recently and I found a coupon for the new store. I decided to give it a try... I wanted a hot cheesesteak (spicy with chipotle sauce). To be honest, it wasn't all that great. It was a nice sandwich and it was enjoyable, but as 2 stars state "I've experienced better". In fact Capriotti's is a better cheesesteak with better flavor. I like that there is another new restaurant chain in town that we get to try and enjoy, and maybe other sandwiches are better, but I am going to have to pass for now. The cost of the meal was a little pricey too. You can order a mini size or a larger size. Either size you get is fine, but the fact that if you add a drink and chips, you are looking at a meal of $17 dollars plus. Not worth the price. Go to Quiznos, Capriotti's or port of subs... you money will either get you more or more taste. Ty it once, then go back to what you know and like. read more

First off id like to say thanks for the coupon. Buy one get one free. Yet i would never go back. The girl behind the counter is not very friendly. The food as you can see is a joke, it looks like a 5 year old bashed it together with spoons. Bread is soggy, liquid cheese running everywhere! I would stop giving the coupons out to people, now you are bringing in new customers to a horrible experience. These sandwiches are not worth 9$ to come back. Upon arriving we were treated with smile and a hello. The staff was helpful as it was our first time here. The menu is big but the staff guided us in the right direction. We chose sandwiches that weren't on the menu. They have a secret menu so I can't tell what I got but I will tell you all you need is simple arithmetic. First off... Not a happy camper. I walked into a line, which is understandable as it was 1pm...so lunch(ish) time. There were 3 employees and one who needed a refill on their drink before going back behind the counter to make sandwiches. You have one person taking orders, (the one that returned) slicing meat, as well as getting the bread, one taking money and one doing "hot stuff" which honestly... Didn't really see him doing much. The one that "returned" was on top of it when he got back... He was able to handle both tasks. The female taking the order than began micromanaging everyone and started confusing the bread the man had selected and had set up, needs to stick to one job. She did orders, mixed up breads and did veggies. It just seemed like a hot mess. After paying for the subs, sat down and waited for our sandwich. The other 3 in my party were given their sandwich while I waited for mine...a chicken parm. My chicken parm was finally brought to me and when I opened it there was so much sauce my breading was almost soggy around the edges. It also was placed on white bread and not wheat like I had asked. Instead of dealing with the line and slow service... I began to eat it. All my jalapenos that I asked for fell out with a gob of sauce. This was a VERY messy sandwich... Finished quickly to avoid even soggier bread and got up to wash my hands. Walked into the restroom to wash my hands, no soap at all in the dispenser. Great! Well I had high hopes for this place. After reading the Yelp reviews I thought I would give it a try since I was trying to stray away from Capriotti's. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. There was so much vinegar on the Sandwich I could not even eat it. My Husband and I got a Giant to split and he said the same thing. The vinegar on the Sandwich was so overwhelming that it was inedible we had to throw it away. Definitely not a good first impression. I guess we will be sticking with Capriotti's. I called the store about an online order... the "manager" by the name of gigi answered.. i asked to cancel the order and instead of actually trying to help me do so her response is "i dont have any online orders" i said.. my CC was charged.. i have an emailed copy with the ticket number..location..phone #.. she says nope dont have any.. i said ok well i was charged so what do we do now? Her response "nothing i dont have the order" She was 100% not going to help look for the ticket.. look for my name.. just simply said she doesn't have an order for online only uber.. so I asked for the manager.. This is when my mouth dropped.. she said she was the manager .. so i asked for her boss. all of the sudden she asked for my ticket # that didnt exist according to her...and i informed her of her lack of customer service let alone the fact she was a manager was beyond me.. i also told her she was willing to help now and be professional as she kept stating now to me..which i told her was definitely not the case! Even thoigh i apparently didnt have an order she found it and refunded my money... Some of the worst customer service i have had especially by someone who calls themselves a manager... If i owned this location she would be searching for a new job if that is how the location was represented on my behalf.. she needs serious leadership/manager training.. The bread here is really good. That always makes a good sandwich. I preferred the cold sub over the cheesesteak. But the Cheesesteak was good. I got extra cheese on it. Sandwiches get a 5 star rating. They use quality meats, cheeses, vegetables and bread unlike that trash Subway. Also, unlike Subway they don't have a convicted felon as a former pitchman. Jersey Mikes also better than port of subs but also more expensive, hence the 4 star rating overall. Check this place out. read more
