I live in the Forest Park area and have passed this place many a times and always they get a solid crowd in there. I have been meaning to try it out for some time, but for one reason or the other I never do. On Saturday, 01/11/20, the weather was bad, I didn't feel like driving and I had a taste for a pizza. I don't believe in having food delivered, so I bundled up and went for a couple block walk. Located in the heart of Forest Park, its located right off Madison Avenue. There isn't a parking lot, but tons of street parking. You could also take the blue line and walk it over. It has a very cool décor on the inside, lots of local high school memorabilia, which I think is awesome. Fenwick, OPRF HS, Trinity, Proviso are all schools that I saw represented on wall. I had a taste for a pizza and decided to get a large, thin crust sausage pizza. Wanted to play it safe and you know what, it was a solid pizza. Not the worlds best pizza, but I enjoyed it. The sausage was good, the cheese was solid. The crust was a tad on the crunchy side for me, but I still enjoyed it. I would definitely ordered again. The price is a little on the high end for a pizza which is a little on the smaller side. On Tuesday and Wednesday evening its half price night, one per table. So a large one topping one cost roughly $10-12. Very good deal if you ask me. Next time I am going to order the mushrooms because those looked really good. Great local option for a solid Za!!!! Pizza is excellent and their house dressing is so tasty and fresh and truly made and bottled in house. My only complaint is that they charged a processing fee for running any credit card for payment and they don't tell you in advance. Damn near perfect neighborhood joint right down to the Black & White checkered tablecloths. My kinda place! Sit at the bar and peruse the menu while you enjoy a robust cocktail! No pushy service here; Your allowed to live in the moment. As for myself, not much for ordering appetizers that distract from the essentials... Crusty Bread is delivered immediately. Tag-team that with delicious Escarole or Minestrone soup...that's all the teaser you'll need! As it is, mopping up olive oil with warm crusty bread is more than a justifiable temptation. The menu reads easily and to the point. Jimmy's is Old School Italian. You cant go wrong with any Pasta option especially the Homemade Cavetelli w/Vodka sauce. The chalkboard "Daily Special" listing is where you'll find a twist, particularly in the availability of fresh seafood. Jimmy did it right by naming the place after himself. My family LOVES Jimmy's Place!! We've gone with big groups after baseball games, on our own as a family and without fail, we always have a great time. The food is delicious and the portions are huge! We started with an order of calamari as an appetizer and it was perfect. Crispy and just the right level of salt. I ordered my kids one order of spaghetti and meatballs to split and we still had leftovers!! My husband and I split an order of lasagna and it was so good I can hardly wait to go back and have it again. Even the bread they bring to the table before the meal is great...warm from the oven. This is a family run business that does a great job making you feel like you're at home! They are really nice people and I always look forward to seeing the owner greet us from behind the bar. The food is pretty great, but just so expensive. Homemade Cavatelli w/ Vodka Sauce is 17 bucks!? That's a bit over kill for a pasta dish if you ask me. My parents come here and enjoy the Lemon Chicken Vesuvio with potatoes which is around 18 dollars. The quality of the food is great, but I think from now on I'd just go next door to Francesca's Fiore and get a similar meal for less. I also think this place can get a bit too loud. A lot of local kid sports teams come in here for their parties and they can get a tad rowdy. My mother likes to go to places that she can hear the conversation, and this isn't the best place for her. The bread that they bring out in the beginning of the meal is fresh and warm which is a plus! The apps are pretty pricy as well. read more

I was slightly disappointed in this place. It was a weird mash-up of Italian family dining and a sports bar, which I didn't mind much, but I did mind the slow service. From receiving menus after we already read the takeout menu to giving in and asking the bus boy for a check, this place drew out every step of the dining process. Food came out hot, so the kitchen was just ridiculously slow. Only liked one of the three dishes - the alfredo gorgonzola. Also had the antipasta and italian beef sandwich. Would i go again? Eh, maybe. But I'd make sure it's with people i could have long conversations with. read more

I wish I could say the food was better because I appreciate having a "mom and pop" italian place nearby but it's not. We ordered a ton of food recently. The burger tasted like meatloaf, I'm assuming because it was the same meat. The vesuvio potatoes are completely uncooked, literally raw. The pizza was tiny, I thought when I walked out of the restaurant that the box was empty. It might have been 10", which is ridiculous. The pasta was fine but the sauce was just poured on top, which was pretty gross. For example, the fettuccini alfredo container was swimming in white sauce, with some noodles in it. We called tonight to place a takeout order, and the woman who answered the phone took the order, then set them phone down to give us the total. Instead, she began complaining to a co-worker that the owner didn't like her and that he was racist and didn't want black guests in the restaurant. She continued talking to a co-worker about men at the bar hitting on her, apparently forgetting there was a customer on hold. We hung up and called back to confirm the order and were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. 20 minutes later we arrived and my husband went in to pick up the food, which was not ready. He was surprised to see only two guests in the restaurant because the woman on the phone had mentioned how busy they were. After another twenty minutes waiting for the order, my husband was told they were out of the steak he had ordered. We left with nothing. We won't ever be retaining here. The food has never been great but in the past at least the service was decent. There are at least two other Italian restaurants on Madison in Forest Park I'd suggest over Jimmy's Place. read more

I sat inside for this meal and I enjoyed the food, but management clearly wasn't enforcing that their staff wear masks. Especially because we were dining at the restaurant again, I expected the staff to be more careful. The bartender had theirs hanging off their face, the waitress didn't have one at all, and i saw several other employees who had their masks down. Went here with a friend for dinner -- she said this was her favorite place. After the absolutely fantastic spinach ravioli I had, I now know why. Seriously, the ravioli I had was clearly fresh -- the pasta tasted as though it had been made in their own kitchen that very day. The salad that comes with their entrees are a perfect portion -- enough to satisfy, but not so much that you can't enjoy your dinner. The service was courteous and unpretentious. The ambience is still casual as expected, table cloths could use a wipe down because they are torn plastic... and menu LOOKS wonderful..now, the reality. Service is very confused, and unaware of the bar menu. It's bad when a server doesn't know what a "martini up"means in an Italian restaurant, ok, how about a glass of wine? "What kind"? Never asked. Timing ruins the menu, too, when everything is served at once, or worse, oh ya, the salad is now dessert. Taking time to train the servers to respect the reputation of the institution Jimmy set up is a good future goal. Keep it alive. read more

Place gets one star because our waiter Jimmy was excellent. The kids ordered 2 meals that we just had for lunch at Maggiano's and they loved it. So we got them the same dishes here. The kids hated the food. If you want 'Italian' food this isn't your spot. Noodles were a soupy mess and the chicken marsala was scary to look at. We told the waiter and he got the owner- Jimmy. He came over and offered no help he actually said did they even know what they were ordering? Um, EXCUSE ME? I was so taken back I didn't reply. Btw Jimmy the answer is yes they had this for lunch. Completely disappointed. I've been coming for years. Always brag about the place. Well, this weekend was my birthday. So since I always brag about Jimmy's my friends and I decided to celebrate here. We had reservations at 6:30p, probably ordered our food about 7p, and didn't get served till 9p. Went up to speak to Jimmy cordially to that we have been here since 6:30p and now it was 9p and we hadn't gotten served. And his reply to me was "So was everyone else". I couldn't believe it. I ordered Fettuccine Alfredo with a side of soup, and an order of mozzarella sticks. Everything was amazing. The mozzarella sticks were wonderfully crunchy on the outside and the cheese was perfectly gooey. The marinara for dipping was delicious and a perfect accompaniment. The fettuccine was cooked al dente and the Alfredo sauce was creamy and nicely seasoned. The soup was delicious and accompanied by a huge hunk of rustic bread and lots of butter. This was my first time ordering from Jimmy's Place, but i will be a regular customer from now on. read more

Jimmy's Place is a very solid restaurant in welcoming Forest Park. I've been to Jimmy's Place a few times and it's a friendly, fun atmosphere. It's usually crowded (unless you're there really early!), and the food is good. Service has always been friendly and this time, we had an order for us (dining in) as well as a take out order. This was no issue and the timing was perfect. We also changed our dine in order a few times and the server didn't seem annoyed at all. It's bright and feels very homey. I usually have pizza of some sort, but this time, I tried the meatball sandwich - huge and tasty. I liked that the sauce was really soaked up by the bread, though I think I would have preferred three smaller meatballs vs two huge ones, but I made it through both! Well I hate to do this, but I feel must. This review is based on 30 plus trips so I can say this with much experience. The thin crust pizza is awesome. Perfectly done, high quality toppings are just superb. Adventure outside the pizza , and you got trouble mister. The salads, largely watery and dissapointing, enjoy your over-priced iceberg. The pasta, yikes, overcooked and underflavored. The sandwiches 80 % bread 20% disappointment. Service is great but you will never see the same server twice. I'll go back because of complete lack of options , but please step it up. read more

this is a nice friendly neighborhood restaurant and bar with solid food. since we are not natives of chicago, hubby and i saw some new and interesting things on the menu that we'd never seen/eaten before. but we were quite excited when we were told that chicago has a huge italian population and therefore many fine italian restaurants. while we waited for our entrees, we enjoyed a large basket of bread which was really good, slightly crusty on the outside, dense and chewy on the inside, and full of flavour. i didn't need to spread butter on top to enjoy the bread. we ordered: *homemade ricotta cavatelli with marinara sauce ($13.99) - absolutely delicious! loved the handmade noodles which had a nice chewy texture. huge portion, could have easily fed two people or two meals for one person. best pasta dish i've had in years! *italian beef/sausage combo sandwich ($6.75) - the beef was a little dry and lacking some juices, but the sausage was good and spicy. came with a side of thick cut fries which was pretty cool since we're not used to the thicker cut. definitely a very filling dish. service was friendly and prompt. there were tv's in the back, in the bar area, so we watched parts of the baseball game while we waited for our food. read more

I chose Jimmy's Party Room to host my daughter's family graduation party from OPRF. I got lots of compliments about the great food and nice atmosphere. I worked with Sean online to make all of the arrangements. We got family style dining for 35, an open tab on the bar orders and we ordered an ice cream cake from Brown Cow down the block. We decorated by ourselves 15 minutes before guests arrived. It was perfect. A good size room, a variety of table sizes, a nice local vibe (lots of sports team photos from OPRF and Fenwick) and the food was SOOO great. Delicious pizza, fresh salad, cavateppi with vodka sauce, and chicken Vesuvio with potatoes or sausage and meatballs on the side. The homemade Italian food never disappoints. read more

I went in to pick up a pizza and was completely ignored by a waitress who looked past me to the couple behind me to ask if they needed anything. I was never asked if I needed help and only told to step aside to make room for the staff while it was clear I needed some help. In May 2022, I held a Celebration of Life in Jimmy's party room. I had a little over 50 guests and they were treated wonderfully by a very attentive staff. I ordered the Party Package A and ALL the food was delicious. I would definitely book their party room again. My guests raved about the food and service. Jimmy and his people were so easy to work with. His son got my electric photo presentation up and running smoothly on their screen and played my husband's favorite music over the speakers. read more
