Been coming here since they opened and the food and service are always excellent however the online reservation system is a problem. I made a reservation (a week in advance) online for my husband's 65th birthday and when we arrived the hostess led us to the bar. I said that we wanted to be seated in the dining room and she asked if I made the reservation online and I said yes. She said that online reservations do not get priority and are often seated in the bar. We were going to leave and go home and they said that they had found a table. They took us to a side room where a group was having a birthday party. A disappointing experience for what should have been a special evening. read more

This is a take out review. I am sure you will have a better experience dining in. I know we have..... many times in the past. The issue that I have with take out is getting the order right. The last two times we have had this issue. The girls up front are nice but all that politeness is for naught when they don't execute the order right. So half your food waits, while they rush an order (which takes twenty minutes) to get the rest. We even had them read it back us and it's still wrong! They then proceed to charge you for their mistake while profusely apologizing. This is a training issue that is costing Jim's Buinsess. I hope they see this and finally fix it. I am sure my food will be good, just a little cold when I finally get to eat it. read more

Just had a disappointing birthday dinner at Jim Place Grill. We had always loved Jim's Place East and thought the Grill would be a good place for my birthday. Having eaten there with a large group several months ago (and having a great meal), I was really looking forward to a nice, intimate dinner for our group of four. We have a 7pm reservation and were seated by 7:15. But we were escorted behind the bar to a room that would have been good for a private party. In fact, there was a large group of 18 in there. The room was so loud that we could hear our own conversations. There were only two servers trying to care for the party plus six other tables. We had long delays between being seated, placing our order, at least 30 minutes between finishing our salads and receiving our entrees. And more delay getting our bill. As for the food, three of us had the house salad with the house dressing. The best I can say about it is "boring". If you are going to call it a house dressing, I expect something special. It tasted like a mixture of ranch and honey mustard. For the entrees, my daughter said her chicken Caesar salad was good and my son like his chicken Parmesan. My husband and I went with two specials - the pan seared scallops with crabmeat Parmesan grits and the gulf grouper, pecan crusted. My scallops were tasty until I got gritty sand. My husband's fish was bland and boring. Turned out they had brought him catfish instead of grouper. I am pleased that they did not charge us for the catfish, but the room and lack of ambiance were a disappointment. read more

Our family celebrated a birthday dinner tonight at Jim's Place Grille. We had reservations at 6:45 for 11 people. The reservations had been made approximately two weeks prior. We arrived a few minutes before our reservations and were told our tables were being prepared. Unfortunately it was 35 minutes after our reservation time before we were seated. It was explained that the party before us stayed longer than anticipated. I don't know why the prior party wasn't informed of our reservations. Although the manager seemed to disappear throughout most of our wait, the evening was ultimately saved via an excellent server and great food. However the only offer made by the restaurant was an apology. Not the way I would have hoped they would have handled this. read more

Dark, cozy interior - great place for date night. The service was excellent - even though they were still busy after 8:00 p.m. on a Friday night. Nice selection of wines, both red and white. Each entree comes with two sides; we both chose the seafood gumbo, which was spicy and delicious. I had a salad with balsamic vinaigrette, which was average. I ordered the fish special, a grilled grouper. It was grilled nicely and tasty, but a little tough and came with nothing else on the plate except a lemon. Jim loved his seared tuna. We were disappointed in the bread, which we recognized immediately as Sister Schubert's dinner rolls. Probably worth a return trip, but not my favorite. read more

The food was even better than the service My wife and I recently went to Jim's Place Grille with a group of friends for a nice dinner. We were greeted warmly by the staff and enjoyed our wine and hot bread before dinner; the bread was quite delicious and was served hot with butter. We had eaten a few times in the Jim's Place East location before and had wonderful meals. I enjoy a good Ribeye when I can afford it. Although my wife did enjoy her Parmesan Chicken, she didn't care so much for her Grecian Rice. I ordered the Prime Rib that was offered on Saturday nights, and although it was nicely seasoned and well cooked, it was "lukewarm" when it arrived. I did enjoy my Grecian Rice and Italian Spinach; mine were both fairly good. I normally get the Ribeye, but I just couldn't justify the $37 for 15oz; did I mention we also had wine? Now we did have about a dozen or so in our group, but we were not pleased with the length of time it took to get our checks and also to pay our bill. On the whole though, we enjoyed our company and the food. read more

Fantastic as always! My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner a few nights ago. She ordered the filet with crab meat while I had the lamb chops. The staff was very accommodating, willing to answer all of our questions, and eager to go above and beyond. Bar selections were good enough for our purposes, it I would have enjoyed a more extensive wine selection and a broader choice of spirits (especially gin). But what we ended up going with was just fine for our meal. read more

The kabobs were a little too salty for me and the mashed potatoes were basic. I enjoyed the Brussel sprouts a lot. I've never had any cooked like this but they were very good. Tried Jim's Place for the first time this evening . Got a family curbside to go meal and two kids meals . I called about an hour before they formally open to place my order . I asked if I could do a combination of two of the family meals offered since they were priced the same . I chose the grilled shrimp and the beef kabobs . You get two skewers of each and two sides and rolls . The sides I chose were Greek salad (which as huge ) and French fries which were homemade freshly cut real potatoes not your generic frozen stuff . The kabobs were grilled perfectly with great flavor and perfectly cooked. The grilled shrimp were also perfectly cooked and tasted perfect . The rolls were hot and hard to stop eating . We will definitely be back this time trying dining in . read more

My initial intention was to complain about the chocolate cake I bought tonight. I was a tad bit upset initially because it was exceptionally small for the $9 price tag. I took a photo and then I took a bite to see if it was worth the price. My first bite had me rethinking things because it tastes really good and chocolatey. I added the chocolate sauce that comes with it and took another bite. The sauce took it up another notch and it took me about 30 minutes to finish because it was very rich with the sauce added. After I finished every bite I concluded that I am just plain greedy because this serving of chocolate cake was more than enough to fill me up after I finished eating dinner. I still think it was expensive but I would buy it again with a scoop of ice cream just to be extra. read more

I have eaten at several other prime steak houses in Memphis and Jim's is the best, by far. I highly recommend this restaurant. The food should be the star at these prices. The gumbo was a great dark color indicating a knowledge of how to make a proper roux. The gumbo had very little flavor. What a pity someone had taken the time to perfect the roux then forgot to season the dish. The crab cakes were lukewarm, very bread heavy and mushy. Don't microwave a crab cake! The outside should be crisp. And when you advertise a lemon beurre blanc sauce, don't give me a lemon and a cup of melted butter. Unacceptable!! When you are out of catfish and substitute the fish of the day, should you really charge the evening special price? No! Learn to season food. Everything we ordered needed salt and pepper. AND FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS SOUTHERN, CARAMELIZED BUTTERBEANS ARE NOT A THING! Really do not order caramelized butter beans! What a crime to perpetuate against a defenseless legume. read more

Love this place! Our new go to restaurant! My favorite item is the wedge salad with their signature dessing topped with chargrilled shrimp! All their specials are good too!
