This Jim's has got to be one of the worst I have been to. The service was fine but the food was sub par. I ordered a burger which for Jim's should be good but this was far from it. My burger was the last thing to come out after we heard a plate being dropped on the floor. Then when it did come out not only was the bun hard as a rock but it was COVERED in salad dressing. I ordered a burger not salad dressing and a side of burger! And that wasn't even the last of it. The fries were plain nasty. They tasted like they have been cooked and sitting under a heat lamp. Where did the good Jim's go? Long time visitor that won't be coming back. A staple like this should have better food! Update while the food was not good the service provided by the manager Craig was awesome. He noticed that we were not happy with the food and came to the table to talk with us personally and made sure at the end of the day our whole table left satisfied. I've been here twice in the past two weeks. The first time was right after I was discharged from the hospital late on a Saturday night, after suffering a concussion at work. Doctor's orders: get something to eat! It was around 1:30 am and we were served by Katie. She was very sweet and patient with me. It took me a while to order because my brain had been rattled and it was hard to focus. Finally, I chose an omelet with grits and toast. Everything was delicious and hot. Second trip, last night, we ordered takeout at 3:30 in the morning and AJ was very nice and helpful over the phone and in person. After paying at the register, she brought our food out to us and I double checked the bags for everything. She made sure we had everything we asked for and some things we didn't even have to ask for. This restaurant used to be my family favorite spot. Very disappointed on the service I received today!!! I understand being understaffed but for the love of god at least try to give good service cmon. Didn't get helped for a while, and we had three different servers!!! felt almost discriminated as if no one wanted to help us. Only lady I liked I didn't even get her name, she had dark brown hair and glasses. was super sweet to my mom & I. I DO NOT recommend anyone to eat here!!! Went there for breakfast yesterday. Service like most places these days is not up to par but it seems no one wants to work. Half of the restaurant was closed due to no servers. I was told because they don't have enough employees to be fully open. But my biggest issue is when I went to use the restroom. Not only we're there used sanitary napkins laying on top on the garbage can in the stall, EVERY toilet in there has huge spots of dried urine all along the bottom and sides of the outside of the bowl. Looks like whomever cleans it (when they do) only cleans the toilet seat. Pictures would have been just to gross to post! I alerted the manager and hopefully it was taken care of. I don't know about you, but if a restaurant can't keep their toilets clean I wonder if they keep their hands and kitchen clean. Won't be going back any time soon! read more

Let's just start off that as soon as my group got a table, I went to the restroom because we had just finished Christmas Shopping at Rolling Oaks Mall. After I was finished in the Ladies room, I should've just told the Family that we were leaving to eat elsewhere....but I didn't. And well we all know the saying "DON'T EAT IN A RESTAURANT WHEN THE RESTROOMS ARE FILTHY"! Their restroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned for over a month, the smell was disgustingly grotesque and bugs were flying around in the restroom! Decided to sit down and eat because my Father has a medical condition that he needs to eat at certain times or he gets sick. We waited for over 30 minutes to get our ordered food and drinks, and No it wasn't busy as there were only 7 tables being used by Customers and no line at the door. My mother and I then commented as we observed the Servers wearing masks and gloves. I get it, COVID / O Variation Pandemic. But these Employees put safety out the window when their masks are not covering their mouths or nose and some Servers actually shook / fist bumped the Customers! WTH?!? When did Servers start shaking Customers hands and fist bumping other Customers? Worst part, THEY NEVER CHANGED THEIR GLOVES PRIOR TO SERVING FOOD & BEVERAGES!! Once everyone at our table got their Food, I had already eaten my Avocado Burger (which some of the avocado I had to remove from the burger because it was BLACK i.e. OLD) I then tried to eat my Fries and almost barfed it all up because there was (3) pieces of hair under my fries. My Fathers burger was undercooked and still extremely pink inside and mind you he likes Medium Rare but even he said it was UNDERCOOKED! So....we decided to tell the person at the Cashier Counter as no Employee working in the Restaurant were wearing uniformed Uniform. Everyone had on a different colored Uniform Shirt and you couldn't tell WHO the Supervisor or Manager was! The Lady at the Cashier Counter started to act ignorant by saying that it's not the Server's problem and we were trying to tell her that none of the Cooks were wearing HAIR NETS! Then she had the audacity to ask if the HAIR was still on the plate? LIKE I'M GONNA TAKE IT WITH ME!! WTF!!??!! No apology or offer to get the Supervisor or Manager so the issue could be addressed! Guess that's the kind of Customer Service this Restaurant is promoting from people with BLUE DYED HAIR!! My hash browns had no crisp no flavor my steak was supposed to to medium rare it was horrible the eggs where scrambled hard an I got bread not toast. First time at this SA legacy. The place was packed on this Sunday noon. I wanted a cheap breakfast, so I got their "pioneer breakfast," which is a pioneer (local) biscuit smothered with a delicious white sausage gravy with big chunks of pan sausage crumbled, paired with 2 over easy eggs (perfectly cooked) $4.99. The order came out in 3 minutes delivered by the cook who made it. Good service. I can't wait to try one of their lunch specials in the future to see how that food compares. Boy howdy! That's my exclamation of satisfaction after my recent dining experience and the two words that I'm reserving for and only Jim's is worthy of. Good old fashioned country fixings in a diner style cafe environment. The place is a charming old restaurant. They seat you quickly. The clanking of silverware and mealtime banter resonates throughout and provides a certain comfort and ambience to the weary famished traveler and road warrior. It's just up the Loop off 35 just a couple miles. Jim's has San Antone roots. It's one of the pioneers for all day breakfast. That's right; breakfast rain or shine, day or night.! Unfortunately, we had to deduct a star because our eggs were ordered over medium and they barely qualified as over easy. That was the only blemish in our experience. Everything else was perfect. A few memorable things to mention: My wife's ham was delicious and perfectly grilled up. My bacon was not fakin'! Biscuits were fresh, moist, and fluffy. Unlike a lot of eateries that serve them dry and crumbly. My little picky eater loved the oatmeal she was served. Hash browns are fresh and not derived from frozen potatoes! That's a plus! Coffee was not highfalutin or pretentious, heck naw! It was brewed up fresh like you'd expect from an honest to goodness diner. Classical American coffee at its finest. No frills, not trying to be anything but basic coffee. Save the Dunkins and the Bucks for someone else, this coffee pares well with the Average Joe cuisine. Prices are very reasonable for the portions and quality. The condiments variety is nice. They even have my beloved Cholula salsa for the eggs! Jim's has been a staple of Southern comfort since I was a kid. It's one of few remaining places where a family can dine together and everyone is pleased. My favorite Jim's restaurant by far. I have tried almost every one in San Antonio but this one never fails. The servers are very friendly and helpful and assist each other out when one of them gets tied up. There is a manager there named Joe who is one of the gold standards in the restaurant industry. I am tossing out 4 stars for good food and good service. This place is a local icon. I love to eat breakfast there but today I went for dinner. I really wanted onion rings so I decided to go light with my entree. I ordered a chef salad with turkey, cheese, eggs, tomatoes and onions. They have fabulous ranch dressing! I opted for a 1/2 order of onion rings. I like them because they are not all batter. Today they were a little limp, but still good. Service was spot on. Alhought restaurant was busy, it took longer to be seated and for food to be served at our table. Two identical orders, other than mushrooms added to one, did not arrive simultaneously. Both were cooked medium well. My wife specified hers was to be cooked only well. The sign says it all " hiring cooks." The food was hot, good and consistent. Waitress service was good. The Texas Toast was just right. Want AARP aged people to know when you order from the Senior Menu for an 8 oz Chopped Sirloin you are getting more (an extra side) plus you pay a dollar less. We got there around 830 in the morning with my mother in law and daughter,we're waiting for the stuff to escort us for table but for our disappointment we're waiting for few minutes and there is 4-5 stuff at the counter talking with each other and didn't really bother to ask us,so we went to the empty table and sit ourself.then our server was good though,the food taste good,the serving is not too big and not too small. Thats the only complaint i have for them hopefully they will allocate a one person to entertain all new customers coming in. read more

This was our second and now last time to this location The first was also on s Sunday before 11 am and it was super busy and food took a very long time to get out and was only mediocre, eggs weren't to order but nothing major. Service was slow to non existent. This time it wasn't as bad, before 9 am, BUT arrived behind one group and quickly got sandwiched between 2 or 3 more groups which came in a few minutes later. Well as we waited to get acknowledged a server arrives behind the counter and begins getting named and ignores everyone who came in BEFORE the last people who came in. I know this is a chain, which is usually not my favorite place to eat breakfast, but Jim's was actually good. The waitress was helpful and got the order just as we requested it. The eggs were perfectly soft scrambled (which most places get wrong every time). The biscuits and gravy was very good, tasted homemade rather than package. The pancakes were light and fluffy and had a special taste, not just plan pancakes; the syrup was thick and delicious. The only negative would have to be the coffee - it was watery and weak without much taste at all actually. Unfortunately I love me some java, so I had to give this Jim's 4 stars rather than 5 despite the yummy breakfast. Nevertheless, I would recommend and I will return. read more

We ordered Jim's carryout last evening. I always loved Jim's until now. I've been out of state for 12 years. I have never been so disappointed. My husband had the pork chops. He said they had good flavor but they were so tough he couldn't even cut them. He had to chew off bites. I had the chicken fried chicken. It was tough. I had asked for extra gravy yet there was no gravy in the bag. I also had the tortilla soup. I've always loved it. It was mostly broth. Not like it used to be served when I dined in. I will try them again as sometimes people and restaurants have off days. This was the 1st time I've had Jim's food since returning to San Antonio and I was very disappointed. read more
