Decided to stop by here on the way home, as I've always been curious. I ordered the turkey club sub. It wasn't bad but it was just ok. A bit bland tasting. Not something I would order again. But I wouldn't be opposed to trying something totally different here either. Ordered the steak sub and garlic bread with cheese. The steak sub was pretty tasty but hated how they didn't shred the lettuce because it fell all over the place (see picture). They put a good amount of steak on it. The oil tastes pretty plain. The garlic bread with cheese was good. Horrible service! I waited over 30 minutes for fish and an order of fries. I repeatedly told the staff I was in a hurry to get to work and kept checking on my order. I had ALREADY PAID. After being told it's almost ready a few times, I told them at the 10 min and 5 min that I had to get my food and get to work. I finally asked for a refund because it was not going to be ready in time and I had to leave. I WAS REFUSED A REFUND AND LEFT WITH NO FOOD!! After I called to speak to a Manager, was put on hold 5 minutes then told to call back in 2 hours! SUCKS!!!! Calling my bank in the am to reverse the charges. Never again.​ read more

Avoid this place. Ordered a sub, went in to pick it up. Gave the dude at the counter my name. He looks for it then examines it weirdly and then just throws it onto the counter in my direction . Doesn't say here ya go or thanks for coming in . That's it. That was the whole exchange. Surprisingly better than it's been in a long time! My family ordered here for the first time in over a year. Since they don't deliver anymore, we have to arrange for someone to go get it. We ordered three different hoagies today. We were extremely happy with them! For a while, their ingredients on their subs and hoagies became very skimpy, really not worth the price Today's hoagies were pleasantly filled to the max, no shortage of any items. This was usually our go to place when we wanted a good sub. I have only one question.... What Happened?? My husband & I ordered subs for dinner mine was a steak hoagy & my husband ordered the sausage hoagy. The rolls were soggy & the meat on the steak sub was totally different than it use to be. We were so disappointed in the quality that we would never go back again after our experience. First of all it's too warm in here. I am with my Dad and order him a fried bologna sandwich with no cheese or hot sauce so the young man at the counter rings up a sub. When I noticed I told the young man and after getting some help gave me the money difference. I walked over to the pickup counter and waited. They brought out a sub and said it was for him. I explained that I had just paid for a sandwich but said he could eat it if they didn't want to remake but she said no and took it back which was fine but she was very unfriendly. So I waited and finally they brought out my Dads sandwich with the hot sauce and cheese of course and the lady was aggravated because I said that I ordered it without cheese and hot sauce. She grabbed it and said what did I want on it even though it was in the original order. She said that I should not have said sandwich when I ordered even though it was in the sandwich column so it was my fault I got a sub. They only have subs or bombers. I really did not appreciate how unfriendly she was. They were busy which I get but I didn't do anything wrong to get treated that way as well as paying extra for a sub that I didn't order. We were out running a lunchtime errand near here a couple days ago, and decided to give John and Mary's a try on a whim when we drove by. We'd never been here before. Stopping in was not a great decision on our part. Here's why: ** We ordered at the counter, where a big sign says something along the lines of "Thanks for your patience, everything is made to order." My husband ordered a chicken finger sub as is, and I ordered a grilled chicken wrap and asked to have onions and banana peppers added. We got a fountain drink and sweet potato fries to share. And we took our seat to wait for our made-to-order order, the onions and banana peppers at least. ** And we waited. And waited. Three people who came in and ordered after us received their food first. They ordered to go, so maybe that is why they were prioritized. Even so, I have only so long for lunch, so why should I wait longer when we were there first??? ** When we finally received our food, I took a bite of my wrap and the contents contained chicken, soggy lettuce and tomato. That's it. So all that "patience" for my made-to-order wrap was all for not. No onions or banana peppers. I didn't bother saying anything at that point, and just ate it. It wasn't awful, but not great by any means. ** My husband's chicken finger sub was meh'. The cheese was cold, not melted at all. The blue cheese was skimpy. And after a couple bites, he pulled a very long hair from the middle of his sandwich. We were so put off by the whole experience at that point, he didn't say anything either. ** The sweet potato fries were they best part of the meal. They were served with melted butter and honey, and when drizzled on they were decent. ** One minor glimmer of hope, when I went to refill our soda I noticed the machine had flavor shots. I love adding a spritz of cherry to diet Pepsi, and thought I at least had that going for me. I pressed the button--and nope. None of the flavor shots actually worked. So downer there as well. Our bill was over $25. With a shared drink and shared fries, mediocre to unacceptable food, and a long odd wait, that's too hefty a bill. There are sooooooooooo many great places in Buffalo and the surrounding areas for this kind of subs-and-pizza fare. We gave it a shot here, and no way will we be back. read more

I am looking for a new pizza place and thought that we would try John& Mary's ..What a mistake..We ordered a large cheese & pepperoni pizza & an order of onion rings...The pizza was lousy..the dough was very thick, doughy & undercooked; there was no cheese from the edge to 4 inches inward..the pepperoni was skimpy ...The sauce was unevenly placed on the crust--some of the pizza had a lot , some none at all...The onion rings were very overcooked, hard and greasy ...I was very disappointed because John& Mary's has been around for so long I expected better...I obviously will not patronize John& Mary's again, sad to say..To be honest, Little Caesar's stuffed crust pizza is better than this and that is conveyor belt pizza..I assumed that John& Mary's used a real pizza oven but I wonder if that is true since I was told my pizza would be ready in 10 minutes --not the usual 20-25 minutes at other pizza places...Maybe the staff was having a bad night but I am not going to take the chance of wasting any more money....I am sorry to post this review but I was very disappointed in our meal... read more

This is my go to Friday night quick eats place. I call about 15 minutes before I leave to pick up my chicken finger sub and French fries. It totals about $16 for both, which isn't bad, because it is my favorite place for a sub. The bread isn't too thick and isn't taking over the sub. The amount of chicken fingers that they place on the roll are satisfying. They also offer ice cream in the summer, and while they do not offer a variety of hard ice cream options, I typically get the chocolate milkshake, which is super reasonable in price, a little over $3.00. When the ice cream runs out in early fall, they close down the ice cream portion, but resume every spring! read more

We hadn't ordered from J&Ms in a long time so we figured we'd give it a whirl. And now it's on our permanent 'do not order' list. I got a large cheese and pepperoni pizza. The cheese was so thin in many spots that it was actually bare, and the cheese stopped short from the edge of the crust. And some pieces of the pie actually didn't have any pepperoni on it at all. I happened to open the box to check it when I got in the car. I turned around and walked back in with the pie, asking if they had forgotten the pepperoni. The young man behind the counter kind of shrugged and said "Well, I could fry up some pepperoni and put it on for you." I said to forget it and he kind of halfheartedly said "Mention it and we'll take care of you next time." But then the next day...oh no. I decided to wait the 10 plus minutes for the fish sub. So glad I did it that, it was the best fish sub I ever had and very close to one of the best submarines I ever had. Slightly OK. I love their subs but the pizza was not what I expected. It was very thick and wasn't cooked all the way and the order was wrong. My wings were supposed to be half plain and half hot BBQ and the whole thing was hot BBQ. My family couldn't eat it. The good news is they gave me ALL flats like I asked so that was a win. Nice little restaurant with a huge menu. The place has been around for a while and has definitely stood the test of time. We got a couple of hoagies for dinner. I got the chicken and bacon hoagie and there was a ton of meat on it! Several big strips of bacon and huge cut up chunks of grilled chicken. Everything was prepared to order and I was able to customize my sandwich with extra peppers and onions. The only bad parts about the sandwich was the chicken was really dry and hard to chew. My mom got the roast beef hoagie and, again, lots of meat on there. They have indoor and outdoor seating with a separate walkup window for ordering Perry's ice cream outside. I would definitely come back to enjoy some ice cream on the patio or try another one of their sandwiches, pizza, or wings. read more

Ordered the Cappicolla sub, chicken wings, and curly fries. The subs are large- split or order a half. The chicken wings were some of the best I've had, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The fries were under salted. The custard was super creamy and very cheap. I got a small cone for just over a dollar! I will return! read more

I loved this place for years, I ordered two weeks ago for a delivery and after 30 minutes for no reason they cancelled the order. Tonight checked website and the site listed 9pm. We arrived at 7:50pm after driving 20 minutes for our favorite subs. We were met with a sassy young girl stating we are closed there manager just called and said the new close time is 8pm. Granted in was 10 minutes till 8. As we were run out of the restaurant they were pointing and laughing at our expense. I don't normally leave reviews but I hate to see a staple like this ruined buy a few kids from that don't appreciate the reputation that took so many years to build. read more

Terrible service. I had a gift card for $25, and because their new registers didn't read my gift card they would only offer me $5 off. The older woman was very harsh about it, not even apologetic. I've been a staunch fan of John and Mary's Chicken Finger Subs for some time, but after my most recent visit I learned that just because they've perfected that Buffalonian delicacy doesn't mean the rest of their food is all that satisfying. PIZZA Not their strongest suit, and there isn't much hope for this pizza either. It fell somewhere between the kind of pizza you'd expect to get from a chain restaurant not known for serving pizza (e.g. Taco Bell or KFC) and the free lunches pizza given out to kids in the park in Buffalo during the summertime (good times). Granted, I picked up a slice of their spindle pizza - you know, for fun - just to give it a shot on the car drive home, but I wouldn't get it again nor would I recommend it to anyone with a reputable palate. I would say you should steer away from this pizza unless you're a hungry little league baseball team or a fisherman using this pizza in lieu of stale bread solely for the purpose of catching blue gills. STEAK SUB Awful. The steak had no flavor. In fact, the only thing my mouth experienced was a the slight taste of pepper and mayo, the texture of damp cardboard being chewed up in my mouth and the ardent complaints coming out of my mouth to my wife of how bad it was. CHICKEN FINGERS AND FRIES The chicken fingers were standard-bulk-frozen: nothing wrong with that as that's probably 95% of restaurants, and they were fine, but the fries weren't all that great. I wouldn't get them again either. On a final note, one of the workers wrote "GYM" on the food box instead of Jim. I thought it was kind of cute. I can't possibly drop my rating below 2 stars on account of how terrific their chicken finger subs have been to me over the years. read more

This place needs to be retrained. I ordered 3 meals. They had the two done in about 30 minutes. I took it out to my car to return for the last meal and they had not even put the fries down for the seafood basket. Had to wait an additional 6 to 8 minutes just for them to complete my order while my other food was out in the car getting cold. The seafood basket was garbage at that. Onion rings cold as hell. Be careful if you phone in an order, they seem to typically make a minor mistake, like forgetting to put lettuce on your sub. We like the ice cream here in the summer.
