I usually get the lunch special which comes with pizza and salad and it's more than enough for my lunch and dinner. The pizza crust is amazing. It's really solid pizza and salads. This meal was absolutely terrible, it doesnt get worse than this. I got the garlic knots which were incredibly undercooked, and was basically dough. I got a pasta marinara (how could they mess this up right?) the pasta was completely overcooked and mushy, and the sauce tasted and looked like cafeteria food. Cold pizza, sub-par pasta & NO management on-site! Called in an order for a delivery of a large White Pie and pasta. Was told it would be a hour. It was Saturday @ 5:30p & didn't give it another thought. Should have known better! The delivery took 1 hour 50 minutes! The pizza was cold & the crust was burnt. The pasta dish was sub-par & no bread. Called to speak to a manager & was told by the person answering the phone "You tell me the problem". After trying for a few minutes to get a manager on the phone, I was told that no management works on the weekends. No wonder you get slow deliveries & sub-par food. The food was pretty good. I got no complaints. I did find it frustrating that it took a search party to find a waitress to get us some water or service after we ordered. I found it frustrating also, that when they dropped off the check at the table, it took them about 30 seconds to return to ask if I had paid yet. I ordered the johnnys combo calzone and a diet coke. The calzone was hot and fresh out the oven. The crust was perfectly crispy but still doughy and chewy. There was a substantial amount of cheese which was tasty but I scraped about half of it off...Which worked out since I ended up eating most of it with the complimentary garlic knots (which were okay but a little too bland for me, hence the appreciated addition of cheese) the pepperoni was good but there wasn't enough of it. Think I had maybe 5 slices in my entire calzone. (Yes I ate the whole thing) the peppers and onions were satisfactory but the sausage was blah so I didn't eat it. Tasted very processed and cheap. Overall I mostly enjoyed the dough and happily demolished my entire meal. I look forward to returning only next time I'll try the pizza. On another note my friend ordered the meatball sandwich and that was definitely not worth ordering again. I'm pretty big on meatball sandwiches so my standards are high. I expect a fresh, delicious and crispy bread graced with a wet and delectable red sauce with a savory cheese and an abundance of meat. I thought the bread here was bland like a stale version of a subways subpar loaf. The sauce was forgettable, the cheese didn't save it and the meat was just okay. Even the presentation was discouraging. Still I enjoyed my meal and recommend stopping here for a quiet and vibrant dining experience. This pizza specialty restaurant is on Santa Monica across from the Century City Mall. The restaurant is a part of a small national chain with a handful of southern California locations. Parking is scarce but possible on the street. They advertise New York City pizza and deliver a reasonable quality NY style pizza. I had eaten at this restaurant twice in the past, both times more than 4 years ago and both times had mediocre pizza. I am not sure whether the name or ownership has changed but I am certain that the pizza I had at my recent visit was much better than I had in the past at the same location. The pizza was expensive, roughly $20 for a large which was only 16" diameter. The pizza we had here was very good. The crust was thin but among the thicker of the NY style crusts that I have had. The dough was raised with a lot of bubbles and a near perfect elasticity. The base of the crust was uneven and lightly blackened from appropriate high temperature cooking in a pizza oven. The cheese was chewy and mildly tangy with a great consistency. The sauce was blended very smooth but tasted freshly made. The cheese and sauce were in a good proportion to each other. While I was prepared based on my previous poor experiences at this location for poor quality pizza, this visit (many years later) they had made some major improvements and, despite a crust that was way too thick from my perspective, made what turned out to be a very good pizza. read more

Now this review gets five stars because I'm only factoring in my feelings about the pizza and salad. If you're looking to get pasta I'd probably keep looking. Now back to my pizza, salad review. If you live in the area, Johnnie's is your place. They have tons of pizza speciality options, and if you don't like any of those ideas you can also choose to build your own. The crust is really good and the pizza sauce is zesty and delicious. I like building my own pizza. I normally get three toppings as well as a regular sized caesar salad. The hubs and I have got the large pizza in the past with the regular salad, but it always ends up being too much food, so instead we go with the medium pizza and the regular sized caesar salad. We always add veggies to our pizza like mushrooms, onions and spinach. Another great combo is ricotta cheese, fresh tomatoes and spinach. YUM! If you're looking to eat in, little garlic bread knots and marinara dipping sauce come with whatever you're waiting for. The place is super casual and delivers if you'd prefer not to leave your home. It's great quality pizza. The ingredients are fresh and this makes a big difference in the pizza taste. The price is not cheap by any means, especially if you decide to customize your pizza, but in my opinion, it's worth the extra cash. What to say...the service was mediocre. They didn't shun us, but they left empty glasses on our table for several minutes before getting refills. And we were only one of two tables. I like the BBQ chicken and their pepperoni isn't bad. *Salads are also good. Simple with tons and tons of greens, but I've tried (and liked) the caesar, bbq chicken, and NY chopped. Our love runs the gamut from frozen Trader Giotti's pies/Tombstone, to domino's extra thin & cripsy and Pizzeria mozza. We just love pizza of all shapes and sizes. Of course, there are varying degrees of like, and in this case it is luke warm. My Go-To's besides pizza: - Tomato Basil Garlic Pasta with extra sauce is the bomb! - BBQ Chicken Salad (small order is big enough for 2 if you order other dishes) - The Grinders and Sandwiches are all pretty solid NOTE: The Garlic knots, or "italian doughnuts" as i call 'em, are sinfully good lil' devils. This is our go-to pizza delivery spot. We only order one thing: goat cheese pizza with sun-dried tomatoes and fresh basil. Occasionally we add pepperoni too. It rocks. Although more recently we've had to start stressing that we want goat cheese "on all the slices." Maybe it's the bad economy, but they definitely were skimping on the goat cheese for a few runs until we complained. If we're paying extra for a topping, then we want a reasonable amount of it! The manager was super cool and helpful about righting the situation and we haven't had a problem since we brought it up. I've also had the "white pie" and the garlic knots with friends. Both are solid. A little greasy, but pizza isn't exactly health food so I'm not really bothered by that. One time we had a coupon for a free salad and it was actually a lot better than I expected it to be, especially since pizza parlor salads usually suck. Wow, I just said "pizza parlor." They usually take about 45 minutes to deliver. They're always pretty spot-on in predicting how long it's going to take for your pizza to be at your door when you place your order over the phone. If you just want a standard nothing-out-of-the-ordinary pizza, then one of the cheaper chains is probably a better choice. Johnnie's is on the pricey side, after all, so I would never order a run-of-the-mill pepperoni pizza here. Johnnie's take out pizza and salad for our group at the office today. We had BBQ chicken (my favorite), Johnnie's combo (also a favorite) and plain cheese. YES I ate several slices from all 3 pizzas - don't judge me! I have never had NY pizza, so I can't say if it's authentic, but it's delicious. There's something about the sauce and topping ratio that is perfect. The crust is thin, not too crispy, not soggy. As a New Yorker I'm constantly in search of the great New York Style pizza here in Los Angeles, a hard feat for even the seasoned eater-outer. While chain pizzerias are usually third class at best, this piece of the chain is strong, delicious and meets my cynical standards. With delivery, take out, and a nice small boutique decor inside this place isn't like the other Johnnies littered around the city. With brick walling inside, a few tables to enjoy a quiet meal and tables outside to take in the cool breezy air, you'll feel peaceful here and not bombarded as you would at one of the other locations. Their pizza, either delivered or in house is good, very good. Large, thin, and cheesalicious this place has got others beat. With slices so big that one will do, but sometimes you can't stop yourself, you'll be happy you came here. While some complain that the slices are too big, thereby making them a little thin and floppy, to that I say there is no such thing as too big a slice of pizza. Come here and be happily filled or order out (though you may have to wait a little for delivery as with any pizza joint), get a slice with cheese, any toppings you may desire and a nostalgia for the big Apple. read more

We were expecting a four topping pizza NOT that! Who wants THAT? Cheaping out on toppings!!? To top it off, customer service was rude too! We asked for the veggie delight and confirmed those toppings are all over not separated on two slices alone! The woman claimed it said that in the menu. NOT! So the veggie delight one was undercooked and soggy too. It claims to be Italian New York pizza but it is not and there are no Italians involved with the place. i heard the pizza etc here was good so today i had lunch here, the pizza dough was too doughy & then soggy :-/ the person i was with ordered a toasted sandwich that she did not eat. the meat was just ok, bread was not toasted. The dine-in area needs a lot of TLC. Went with a co-worker and ordered pizza. Pizza was so soggy I decided not to eat. The free garlic knots were burned and may have been sitting under a heat lamp for awhile, inedible . The service is so horrible 20 minutes later the waiter saw our pizza untouched. I asked for the check as we had to get back to work and showed him how the pizza looked like someone dumped a gallon of water on it. Worst. Pizza. Ever. Ordered delivery, (a medium combo pizza) it got here on time and I was soooo hungry. I opened it up, um ok looks good enough. Pick up the crust end of a piece and the middle droops and toppings fall to the middle. Half of the pizza was BURNT (like BLACK burnt) on the bottom, half was extremely undercooked and doughy.
