I ordered a Sausage and peppers sandwich. It smelled and look delicious however, once I got home and started eating I realized that there was no sausage! Wait, I take that back, there were 5 nickel sized slices of sausage. That was all, on the whole sandwich! I'm not a big pizza fan, but every now and again, I crave a NY White Pie (with extra cheese). Thankfully, Johnnie's has one on their menu, and it is 5 minutes from my home. I ordered one to pick up, and I arrived exactly on time. It was not quite ready, but that was not a problem, because I'd rather wait than receive a lukewarm pizza. When we arrived home after picking it up, there it was: piping hot and fresh, crispy crust, melty, cheesy yumminess! Delicious! I've lived in the community since Johnnies's opened a number of years ago, and quality has varied somewhat. The last time I had one of these white pies a few months ago, I ordered it with extra cheese, and it still seemed very skimpy. This time, however, it was great! I guess it depends on who is making the pie. I suspect the owner (or whoever the older dude who was there in the past) is a little more skimpy, but the younger employees, who baked the pizza this time out, made a great pizza for me. I LOVE the pizza but did not appreciate the service from the woman behind the phone. I was ordering for delivery to a sailboat and had to repeatedly say that the dock number isn't the address (was trying to avoid headache for everyone involved) and she snapped at me just because she couldn't understand that the address number was different from the dock number. I'm not surprised to see so many other reviews on how terrible the service is, and that the employees (including manager) don't care about the customers. This is SPOT on! Love pastas especially Shrimp Diablo. Rich taste and little bit spicy but it made me to eat more more and more... I can have 2... but you know I have to watch my weight. 3 Garlic Knots were come with it as complimentary and it was just awesome. This place has a full Italian menu, pastas, paninies, grinders, calzones, and of course pizzas. Only thing missing is Spaghetti alle Vogole. Asked chef and he said they will have near future soon. I had to take away a star because the last time I ordered from them, double pepperoni, it was an oil slick disaster. Maybe we were fools to order double pepperoni, but when we picked up a slice, it flopped and all the toppings including the cheese just slid right off the pizza. Being from New York, I appreciate a good slice. I'm not an extremest but I won't eat a reheated slice. I know it sounds crazy but...what can you do! I started eating from this specific Johnnie's about 3 years ago. They make a very nice pie. I don't buy it by the slice(for reasons I have already stated) but have no problem ordering a pie, mushroom and meatball is usually the bill but if Im feeling extra fattened I order pepperoni instead of the mushies, fantastic. Make sure like any place you order pizza from you ask for it well done! This way the crust is crispy and the cheese is just right! read more

We ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza. The quality of the pizza is no different than Pizza Hut. The dough looks like a premade type, it if isn't, then the baker needs to work on his pizza skills. The pizza is blah. We ordered some wings, they weren't too bad. The price of the pizza is not worth it. Since it is similar in quality of Pizza Hut, the pizza is overpriced. When I went to Johnnie's, it was a Wednesday night and they seemed to busy with take-out orders because the workers were frantic but there were not many customers inside the restaurant. There was only one person working the front which was definitely not enough. The phone was ringing off the hook and cashier was clearly overwhelmed. I will say, although my experience at Johnnie's was not great, I made some mistakes as a customer. I decided to order in, instead of carry out (mistake #1). The cashier claimed she would bring my water to my table and it took over 15 minutes for her to bring it out. About ten minutes later, she brought a basket of bread and marinara sauce, apologizing for the slow service. Another ten minutes go by and she brought out my chicken fettucine alfredo. The chicken in the pasta looked like cubed chicken from a can, was rubbery and subpar at best. However, Johnnie's being a pizza place, I probably should have ordered pizza (mistake #2). If I were to go to Johnnie's again, I would definitely order pizza and I would definitely order take-out. But I probably won't go back. read more

First time ordering from Johnnies NY Pizza. I will never order from them again. I live 14 blocks away. Delivery took over an hour and my pizza showed up cold. My wife ordered the tomato, basil, and garlic pizza which sounds tasty. Unfortunately it's actually a Margherita pizza which means it has no sauce--Something that is not mentioned on their online menu. I recommended this pizza place because I thought it would be easily accessible for my mother who is Blind. She is legitimately blind and has a fully trained, vested, and clearly labled service dog. So my parents are in town for my wedding (which is tomorrow) from Hawaii and staying at the Inn at the Marina a block away for this place. My father wasn't feeling too well so my mother who is visually impaired went out with her service dog to get him something to eat. Let me make this clear so you don't think that she has some purse dog with a service animal card. My mother, who is in her late sixties has Macular Degeneration, an eye disease that literally puts a big blurry spot in the middle of your vision and doesn't let you focus on anything. She can't drive, she can hardly read anything father than inches from her face and has been dealing with this debilitating disease for almost twenty years. She has a service dog who has had months of training to guide her and allow her to function as a regular person. This dog is a Golden Retriever with a big blue vest that says SERVICE ANIMAL - WORKING, DO NOT PET. When she went into Jonnies Pizzera to get some food and was refused service by a girl named Jennifer, because she had a dog with her. What kind of person, standing behind a register sees a little old blind lady with a dog, and tells her that she can't serve her a slice of pizza?! Jennifer thats who. The management should have her fired and be ashamed that they hired such an ignorant person to represent their establishment. Not only am I humiliated that my Mother had to got through this, but outraged that she felt like she was not able to function as a regular person anymore. i MEAN DO YOU HAVE ANY iDEA HOW HUMILIATING THAT IS TO SOMEONE? I am a 38 year old professional living in Los Angles. The only reason I give it one star, other than the fact that that's the lowest score possible, is because the pizza is actually pretty good. BUT the customer service is terrible! I've had the food there 3 times before and all 3 times something goes wrong. This last time I ordered a pizza and it never came. I called to check the status and they said they couldn't get in the building so they left, claiming they called me numerous times. A lie. I had my phone with me the entire time and ready to go down and open the door because I was starving. I had to call an hour and twenty minutes later for the girl to tell me that they were closed and there was nothing they can do. I don't know why they keep messing up and not caring but it really puts into perspective the kind of business they're running. If you're hungry and want pizza DON'T order from here. Chances are they'll mess up somehow. I'm not the only person that this has happened to. Have been ordering pizza from Johnnie's since I moved to Venice in 1995. The NY White Pie is my go-to pizza. It is the best! Have ordered other places and no one can make it like it is made at Johnnie's. My other pizza pick is 1/2 Hawaiian and 1/2 pepperoni & mushroom. Reasonable prices. Fast delivery! Great food. The delivery person even brings the parmesan cheese and peppers to door in case you forget to order them. Now is that service or what! Ate here on our first night in Santa Monica. Service was great. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and the linguine with sundried tomato cream sauce. We were brought ice water and complimentary garlic knots as soon as we sat down. Garlic knots came with a marinara sauce and were delicious. Our food came out straight after which was nice and quick! Pasta was really yummy with nice rich sundried tomato and cream sauce. Pizza was also good. Only reason for taking off a star as we have had better pizza/pasta. read more
