    C-11. Johnnie's Combo Pizza
    Ricky G.

Solid Pizza, heavy not really the thin NY style but a good combo pizza that reminds me of a better version of the infamous Costco Combo pizza that no longer exists. Price is average but the pizza is massive and could fed 4-6 easily if cut into smaller slices. Will be in my rotation of pizzas in the area when the combo pizza craving hits.

Individual slice with garlic and olives

Honestly my favorite pizza so far in West LA. I went in for an individual slice after a massage next door. The dough and cheese were delicious, ordered roasted garlic and was pretty shocked to see the size and amount of garlic so be mindful if you choose that topping - but honestly still was so good. I sat at a table inside and ate, the cashier was super friendly and the pizza came out so fast! I ordered again from here at a later date and got two full pizzas, garlic knots, and a Caesar. Nothing disappointed! For West coast pizza this is absolutely the best I've had so far and going to continue to order from here whenever I'm in a pizza mood!

My friend ordered to go from this restaurant for a get together and let me tell ya, I had to take a picture of the box and bookmark this place after one bite. My friend is from Chicago so I should just immediately trust him with his pizza choices but I'm super picky and critical when it comes to Italian food I don't know why. However, this is is one of the few places that I was super impressed with and will be visiting soon! Pizza was delish including the crust! I don't know about the service or ambiance but I'll find out soon :)

Probably cost them a dollar to make with this barilla pasta. Chicken breast SOOOO DRY. Total was $20!!

This is the crappiest Italian food I've had in my life. NO salt whatsoever. Ordered a calzone and the fettuccine Alfredo. The Alfredo was essentially the worst I've had in my life. They used the cheapest pasta possible, couldn't taste a thing, and the chicken was EXTREMELY DRY. Calzone was just cheese and similar to the pasta, lacked flavor. The owner of this restaurant has no idea what Italian food is

a slice of cheese pizza in a styrofoam container
    Sunny B.

First of all who delivers a pizza in a styrofoam box? I can imagine if I tried to bring it home it would be soggy. It's nice to have a hot slice but there is a lot of cheese but not a lot of taste. I can't even really taste any kind of sauce , the crust was not crisp, nor tasty. I have to remember how unexciting this place is.

I have lived in LA for 33 years and I miss New York Pizza even more than I miss New York Bagels!…read more So imagine my surprise when I was invited to lunch in Venice at a little place named "Abbott's Pizza". That place has been around for almost as long as I have lived here and, well, maybe it should not have survived Pandemic? That might have been a mercy killing. But then ... a tech guy from New Haven, Connecticut came in and bought the old restaurant from the original owner and ... wow! What a difference! The pizzas are totally different now and so much better! Think "Mystic Pizza" more than "CPK" and you will see what I mean (check out my pictures for the details)! My surprise has turned into sheer delight! The pizza dough is now a 48-hour sourdough and it is incredibly tasty!!! They have about a dozen different kinds of toppings on the slices and so many of them are terrific! I do not eat meat on my pizza, but my friend just raved about how good was the sausage pizza! Personally, I was torn between the Plain Mootz (yummy tomato and cheese with a great flop; delicious sauce; tangy tomatoes; pure delight!) and the BBQ Chicken with savory sauce and tasty chunks of chicken! Two winners for sure! For those of you who want to eat more healthy, the new owner has kept the Salad Pizza -- and has improved upon the avocado by whipping it with lemon juice so it stays bright green and does not get oxidized and turn brown from the air. The best news of all is that the new owner, JD, is renovating and updating the shop, putting in new, more comfortable seating, and has hugely upgraded the beverage selection! LilGuy will be the new name soon, and this is sure to become a hot spot on Abbot Kinney Blvd., even without "Abbott's" in the name! Fantastic New Haven style pizza; crunchy, chewy, perfectly cooked dough with a great mouth feel; friendly staff; comfortable seating; and very affordable prices. The Lil Guy is sure to be a winner! I look forward to going back next week and trying the rest of the menu! I hope to see you there!

Jay actually lives in the neighborhood, genuinely cares about Abbot's and couldn't have been nicer. He has plans for the upcoming redesign and--WOW. This little Venice pizza shop is about to get a seriously beautiful makeover while still keeping the personality that made people love it in the first place. And let's talk ingredients. They're using quality products including Grande Cheese and Ezzo meats, and you can taste it. The BBQ Chicken Pizza remains one of my favorites anywhere--whole-milk mozzarella, BBQ chicken, smoky Gouda, red and green onions and just the right amount of BBQ sauce on that fantastic everything-bagel crust. And where else are you getting a Salad Pizza like this? Mozzarella and ricotta are baked on the everything-bagel crust, then topped with greens, tomatoes, onion, feta, lemon vinaigrette, Parmesan and whipped avocado. It sounds crazy. It works. Abbot's will always be one of the best pizzas in LA. New owner, new energy, beautiful changes coming--and some seriously good pizza. I can't wait to see what comes next.

However, I left disappointed with my visit, especially after trying several other pizza restaurants on this list that absolutely lived up to the hype. Sei is in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood, unassumingly sitting on the corner of the block. The restaurant is very small. It features a bar that surrounds the kitchen area, along with a few tables. They accept reservations and walk-ins, and they also seem to do a lot of takeout orders. Not being able to make a reservation for three, we decided to get there early on a weekday to grab a seat. We waited about ten minutes for three seats at the bar. The menu has plenty of options, featuring both classics and more unique pizzas. We ordered one pizza per person with the intention of sharing all three, and went for a mix of classic and fusion, opting for the Margherita, Ruti's Pizza, and Mala Lamb Sausage. It took about 20 to 25 minutes for the pizza to arrive at our table. Visually, the pizzas all looked amazing. The crust was really puffy with plenty of color contrast on the plate. Upon picking up my first slice, I immediately noted the floppiness of the pizza. The center of the pizza collapsed, causing some ingredients to fall off. This carried into my thoughts on the texture of the crust. In the Margherita especially, the bites towards the middle of the pizza were really soggy. The texture was borderline unpleasant. Maybe it had to do with the amount of sauce they used, but I found that the Margherita was the only pizza we ordered that was really problematic in this aspect. And while the Ruti's and Mala Lamb pizzas were still floppy in the middle, they weren't as soggy. Despite this, it was clear to me that Pizzeria Sei cared a lot about their ingredients. The natural flavors of each component in every pizza shone beautifully. The tomato sauce had a really nice, sweet, and tangy flavor, and all the herbs were aromatic and flavorful. I found the Mala Lamb Sausage pizza to be the best. The flavor profile was well-balanced and unique in addition to the crust being the best. As I ate closer to the edge of the pizza towards the crust, the texture improved drastically. The crust itself had a light crunch but was overall very chewy, and it was finished with high-quality olive oil. Combined, these drastically improved the pizza. Was Sei the second-best pizza in the US? For me, it definitely wasn't. However, they offer a unique crust style hard to find elsewhere in the US, along with creative dishes that make Pizzeria Sei worth a visit. If I were to go again, I wouldn't order all of the pizzas at the same time. From the second the pizzas hit our table, they grew soggier, and as they cooled, all of the pizzas were mediocre. I understand that this style of pizza is required to be eaten immediately, but it is also something to note and plan for.
